Why do people talk about crashes when the OP is complaining about being disconnected?

Because people use the terms interchangeably. Disconnects could have nothing to do with Anet, and there’s nothing they can do to fix his ISP problems.

Assuming that someone can’t express himself clearly is borderline insulting.

Did he ask for ANet to solve his ISP problems? No.

This is what he asked for.

Can we not have the server remember the map you were in for a short time? I mean you were disconnected so you have personaly contributed to the map, hell leave your space open for 2 mins so you can reconnect, then after 2 mins give it to whoever else is clicking join.

Blame the game. Taxiing, which is required for plenty of people to have a chance at winning the meta, sets your participation level to 0%. Doing a full circuit is pretty much required to get participation level up to a level where rewards are worthwhile.

Where are those official metrics?

Legendaries are better because they come with the guarantee that they’ll always have stats equal to the highest tier of equipment.

Years ago, they said legendaries weren’t more powerful than exotics. Look where we are now.

The highest tier of gear is Legendary and Ascended. Guess what, you can stat swap ascended as well and if you are worried about the runes being removed well hate to say it to you but if you stat swap your legendary armour you will have to get new runes as well.

What does that have to do with anything I said?

I pretty much come from the same background Vayne describes for himself. I played pinball when pinball machines still had black on white tumbling plates to keep score and no fixed zero at the end of your score. I was there when the first kittentail-table pong games arrived. Space Invaders, a few years later. I played and still play table top RPGs. Anyway, not important.

I’ve been very critical about HoT on here. Very. I’m not going to be arguing about the raid thing, because I don’t care about raids. Easy mode? Don’t care, I won’t play it unless they make it single player or fractal-like and that won’t happen. I just can’t be bothered to find 9 other players.

So what’s the point of this post? I don’t know… Maybe I can add that HoT wasn’t what I wanted out of a GW2 expansion. Not by a long shot.

It’s all too easy to miss out on a once-every-two-hour opportunity because of this dreadful system.

It’s also really simple to use a timer site and get to the event you want early. Organised maps set up at least ten minutes early, that’s what being organised means.

There are other issues with lfg and parties and groups I’m sure but being on time is a player issue.

So your position is that the game is indeed not providing useful tools to make it accessible? Thank you for agreeing with me.

Sadly, your attitude is why ANet doesn’t fix their game. When players accept being burdened with finding extraneous solutions to glaring issues, there’s no motivation to make things better.

Internet sites like Dulfy and the Wiki are a fact of life Anet is smart not to ignore. However, even without using those sites, it’s easy enough to hang out in a zone until the meta starts, and then you know when it starts.

It’s like saying I won’t pick up drops if I don’t have autoloot. The ways to get the information are out there. People who refuse to use them are just being stubborn.

The bottom line is it’s not hard to find the schedule for any zone, one way or another. It’s not massively convenient, but it’s not massively inconvenient either.

It’s not hard, but I shouldn’t have to do it, and as often as not, those websites will dissuade me from logging on in the first place because what I want to do won’t be available for longer than I care for.

Sure, I’d pick up my loot if I didn’t have that. I always did.

But there’s a game mode that doesn’t use it: WvW. That will definitely keep me from playing it again if they don’t introduce it there when other reasons not to play it are taken away (and there are plenty).

Of course there would be complaints.

And I completely agree, but Raids don’t cause the complaints alone, that’s what I was saying. They are just the easy-to-blame new thing. “Let’s blame the Raids for the lack of HoT content”

Which is a totally valid complaint.

And last I checked they are going to tweak HoT maps with the April patch, so we’ll see what happens after that.

Tweaking is not adding content.

Although this is off topic, but what would you prefer:
Add 4 more maps that are more casual, without timers and so focused on metas or tweak the 4 existing ones to be more casual, depend less on timers and not be only about metas?

Frankly, I don’t care about the 4 maps they shipped anymore. I did what I wanted to do on them and any changes will only seem superficial now. I want new content.

I’m saying, it’s not just a perception that they made an expansion that was very unsatisfying for many people, it’s a fact. It’s not a just perception that they’re not adding anything to remedy that feeling until 9 months after release, it’s a fact. Oh wait, no, it isn’t. We still have to cross our fingers and hope they will.

And the fact that the expansion was very unsatisfying for many people has something to do with Raids because? If the problem is with HoT timers and meta-heavy maps then that’s the problem, not Raids. Or you are saying if Raids were different (or didn’t exist) but HoT as an expansion was exactly as it is now, there would be zero complaints?

Of course there would be complaints. There were a already a great many of them before the first raid wing was released. And ANet just keeps smiling their snake-oil salesman smile, releases another raid wing and told everyone else to wait for many more months.

If raids are as great as people are claiming, that just adds an extra sting to the fact that they shipped HoT with a shamefully incompetent personal story that was obviously rushed to market, with its manic moodswing voice acting, terrible pacing and uninspired gameplay.

And last I checked they are going to tweak HoT maps with the April patch, so we’ll see what happens after that.

It is always the developer’s fault when they don’t properly account for their players habits.

No it’s not, it’s only the community to blame here.

A community that the developer developed through the type of content they used to release and the talk they talked.

And again, it rarely comes down to that. It’s not a player going “that raid is not for me, I QUIT!” It’s about the player’s subconsciously thinking “that raid is not for me, but they sure are focusing on it a lot. . .”

That’s false again. The Raid is an excuse against the difficulty of HoT, the meta-centric design etc. Easier to blame Raids for everything.

No, it’s definitely a case of “what are they doing for me?”

I don’t find HoT difficult, nor do I have a problem with its the meta-centric nature. (I just resent the timers.)

I find HoT very light on content I care about, and the type of content it shipped with that I wanted out of an expansion was appalling and/or frustrating because it does not work well with the game’s server architecture.

And now they’re again talking the talk and putting band-aids on arterial bleeds and making me wait a ridiculous amount of time before anything else materializes. And I only have their word, which isn’t worth much anymore, that something will materialize.

I think the thing that happened was, they saw perhaps the majority of people liked the way silverwastes was handled (I at least did, I can be wrong in this). Sure, chest trains were a side effect, but the rest was to defend as best as they could and pop the event as fast as they could for the boss. It wasn’t perfect, but it was neat.

So for HoT, they decided to take that style, and merge it with a less popular style, the one at Southsun, which only really matters when a boss is going to spawn. Instead of players dictating when the boss event spawns, now its set on a hard timer, which…sucks. I really wish they left it in the hands of the players to decide.

It’s more they merged Silverwastes with Dry Top (which, like the HoT maps, runs on a fixed timer).

What everyone loved about Silverwastes (other than the loot) was that instances progressed based on player action, which meant you could do the meta pretty much as much as you wanted.

The issue with the Silverwastes as is was the number of leechers. People could jump from finished instanced to finished instance, and some poor kitten like me would be doing the events to push the meta, and everyone else was getting a free ride.

The idea of making all the metas at the same time was that people couldn’t map hop and it would minimize leeching. Not to say people still don’t leech, but that was probably the reason for the change.

The participation levels are the answer to leeching, or could be if they worked properly and actually produced easily recognisable results. The timers are just a superfluous nuisance.

LFG should not be the answer but a temporary workaround that has been required to be used for far too long.

And it’s utterly insufficient and prone to behave in a manner that causes frustration and lock-outs.

Join a party that becomes unjoinable before your request is resolved? Lose as much as 10 seconds before your LFG UI unlocks again, and to make matters worse, that join attempt counts against the “you joined too many parties” lock out. Joining parties that try to taxi you into a full world? Another mark.

It’s all too easy to miss out on a once-every-two-hour opportunity because of this dreadful system.

I don’t know what people expected from a Korean grinder. Mind you I’m sure Black Desert will have people who like that style of play, but I knew as time went on that it would eventually consume itself. It’s the nature of the beast.

We’ve seen it time and time again, games that were going to kill this game. Neverwinter, ESO, Archeage, Wildstar, Blade and Soul and now Black Desert. Why hasn’t it happened?

Because it’s easier to make an MMO sound cool than it is to produce a really cool MMO. Words are always easy.

And the biggest potential threat of them all, Everquest Next, was just cancelled before it ever launched. The stated reason?

Though the game looked great on paper, when they put it all together they found it wasn’t fun.

Yes, the game has it’s flaws, but it’s done a whole lot of things right too, and often doesn’t get credit for that.

The only thing that’s likely to kill GW2 is GW2.

I’m pretty sure those numbers you quoted earlier about raid are a bit stacked. That is to say, it’s likely they’re talking about HoT owners, rather than Guild Wars 2 owners. Which means 40% of the people who owned HoT have entered a raid. That’s not 40% of the players of Guild Wars 2.

They’re stacked even worse than that.

They’re just accounts that registered api keys at that particular website and didn’t opt out of being part of those statistics. (I have an api key there but did opt out, so my non-raiding isn’t on record.)

Only about 1% of all GW2 accounts ever created is counted in, and you can be sure that the vast majority of them are non-casual accounts. It takes a directed effort to find out about api keys, a more than passing interest in the game to even know about that website, and a high level of interest to actually go and create an api key and set up the website to work for you.

They were boring as helll and utterly uninspired.

When I first did the Ascalon Catacombs, I was floored, in a complete state of disbelief. Was I really just fighting the exact same enemies as just outside the door, but with 10 times the health and dealing tons more damage? Where’s the fun in that? Turns out, there wasn’t any.

And the final reward, oh my that reward… a worthless generic hat that I couldn’t even salvage.

It took me over a year to bring myself to give dungeons another go. And the experience was exactly the same. Uninspired, linear game play that had nothing going for it. Boring, time-wasting combat, worthless rewards. To this day, I haven’t completed more than 4 paths, and that was because of guild peer pressure and honestly I was just going through the motions, hoping for it to end soon.

I absolutely understand why people sought exploits to cut down on completion times. The main difference between me and them is that I can’t be bothered with content I don’t like. I’m not going to find ways to mitigate the dislike. If I don’t like it, I don’t play it.

When the new Shatterer was just released, there was a huge thread about it, mostly dealing with the break bar.

My concern then was, that breaking the bar isn’t necessary to win the encounter and doesn’t serve any purpose except for earning achievements and shaving a minute or so off the time it takes to make the kill.

I haven’t been there after the first week so I can’t judge the situation for myself, but if what you’re saying is representative for the average Shatterer run, it seems my concern proved right.

You might want to look into finding “organised” runs.

I capture camps whenever that daily pops up, on enemy borderlands. I get “broken spoon” drops quite regularly, and those are supposed to drop for people instead of spoons they already unlocked (Commander’s, Tequatl’s).

If you have a character that can solo those camps, capping whichever ones that are close to the WP once in a while might be more palatable and doesn’t requiring you to put in huge chunks of time.

I think adding the raid was a good idea. What I think was a bad idea, and what made the raid a scapegoat for the situation it created, was creating an expansion with hardly anything in it that was remotely similar to the game it expands.

I also think making the raid based on this specific bit of GW1 lore that many people coming in from that game have been craving for years wasn’t a smart move.

This is the gaming equivalent of the sequal to a popular English language book only being published in Suomi. Sure, you can go live in Finland for a few years and learn the language, but would you? Speaking for myself, I would actually sooner learn a language to access content, than embrace a playing style that doesn’t entertain me.

Yeah, I get the point, you’re saying absolutely nothing using a lot of words. If you think there’s not a “lot of people” in the situation I describe, just say so. But you can’t say that for sure either, so you go off on a pointless tangent hoping this lack of a clue on your part remains unnoticed.

Uh maybe you should reread what I said. I don’t make claims without describing my though process. This is the opposite of discussion. I can be pretty certain by looking at forum views. I was extremely generous with that estimate. I am sure there are more than 1 million GW2 players still active around the world and I am sure that less than 100,000 people visit these forums on a regular basis to argue a point.

And what’s the point of this? Is this addressed at me? It doesn’t even tangentially touch upon what I’m talking about.

Yeah…. when you take a paragraph and split it in half, often times you will find you have no idea what the second half is about. “Obviously these are all made-up numbers but you get the point.” should of been at the end of that paragraph. I just had more ramblings to say. I was merely reinforcing that by taking what you believe the community wants from these forums, this is not what actually represents the population.

At no point have I expressed any thoughts or ideas about what the community wants or how they are represented on these forums. I really have no clue why you’re bombarding me with this and expect me to care or have a reply to it.

That was never true of the vast majority of GW2’s pre-HoT content.

Sure it was. You have one hour to play a day. Your buddy has ten. He will most certainly achieve all his goals before you. You will always be behind in this game if you are not able to commit a certain amount of time. This will cause you to view the game as unfair, when in reality, all MMO’s are is a time sink.

You’re moving the goal posts. The OP wasn’t complaining about his progress not being as fast as that of others, which is a natural consequence of spending less time, duh, what else is new? He was complaining about not being able to achieve something at all, ever, because of time restraints. And I’ll insist: “That was never true of the vast majority of GW2’s pre-HoT content.”

I don’t care what the OP is complaining about. I never responded to anything he said. I responded to someone else rudely patronizing him.

“blaming people for being in the wrong type of game when what they got into was a different type of game, that’s just rude and ignorant.”

No, even reading your earlier post with that in mind, that’s still not clear. Surely you could’ve expressed that disagreement in a few concise sentences?

An outdated quote for sure, but it explains why a lot of people are here. Acting like it never existed, like this game didn’t change course drastically, and blaming people for being in the wrong type of game when what they got into was a different type of game, that’s just rude and ignorant.

When you say so many people you mean maybe 3000-5000 a day? Maybe 100,000 total? At the launch of HoT they hit over 7,000,000 accounts. Assuming a fraction of those accounts are still playing 100,000 seems rather small when comparing to let’s say… 1,000,000. So, judging by this generous speculation this means approximately 10% of the player-base comes to the forums. Obviously these are all made-up numbers but you get the point.

Compare how many complaints you see about a specific topic and relate that to the entire population. Game forums in no way represent even CLOSE to the majority of the population wants. They usually consist of the people who like to discuss, argue, help, or complain… emphasis on complain. People who complain have the loudest voice making it seem like that is the theme of the game. This is literally present in every game core-forum.

And what’s the point of this? Is this addressed at me? It doesn’t even tangentially touch upon what I’m talking about.

Also, indicating to someone who is stating he doesn’t have a lot of time to play a game usually indicates he doesn’t have time to play a MMO where time is literally everything.

That was never true of the vast majority of GW2’s pre-HoT content.

If he’s complaining about not being at the top of the tier then perhaps… MMO’s are not for him? I’m sick of people requesting a reward button for accomplishments that take time and work. If the game consists of nothing that requires time or work then the player-base will drop substantially. This I can guarantee.

I don’t care what the OP is complaining about. I never responded to anything he said. I responded to someone else rudely patronizing him.

There are instances where it doesn’t mean equal, with three per decade the first three may end up coming in the first year. During the second decade it could be year 8, third year 4. They are still regular compared to the stated time frame.

Yes, it’s stretching it, but politicians and scientists often do the same.

Regular intervals? If we’re to take that literally and they do them in groups of 3 we’ll be well into 2018 before they’ve all been released.

Regular intervals do not mean equal intervals

Actually, it does. Unless this is another one of these expressions that lost their meaning because people don’t care about their language.

What makes content hard?

Hard for me is when I still need to make an honest effort, every time, even after I figured out exactly what it takes and what I need to do.

I fear if they open that can of worms (different difficulty settings for Raids) the complaints and the nerf requests won’t stop and the Raid will enter a permanent nerf spiral getting nerf after nerf until everyone can beat that content. One more difficulty setting with slightly easier mechanics is not a bad thing, entering a loop of contant nerfs is. And that’s what I fear might happen with this community

I can understand that. I would really not want that either. But if you are using that argument, am I right in assuming that 1 easy mode is ok with your, but that you fear that if they do that, that might lead to constant nerfs?

But I don’t understand why you talk about nerf. We are talking about a easy mode, not nerfing the existing raid. So if you are using a slippery slope argument, that would mean that you fear that if they add a easy mode of the raid, people might ask for an even easier mode and that we could end up with 3 Difficulty settings 1 super easy, 1 easy and the normal raid. That would be no nerf. Nerf would be a complete other change, a change that I believe most people would be against if they were different level of difficulty. At least, I don’t seem to recall anyone in this post to ask for a nerf of the current raid.

The only concrete concern I’ve been able to glean from this thread was that the “real” raid would suffer from a reduced player base, which is a detestable notion. People are not in the game to entertain others, they’re there for themselves.

All the rest is just nonsense.

I won’t be pre-ordering. Not ordering at all if complete and actual insight into what it offers doesn’t look good a few weeks post-release.

QoL changes, polish, bug fixes and a festival rerun with everything that was bad about it still just as bad with some extra “world full” badness stacked on top of the only substantial part of it.

Nothing worth logging in for if you didn’t already have a good reason to log in the day before.

If easy mode raids were as easy as say, fractals and dungeons, tons more people would be playing them, evekittengnificantly reduced rewards. That’s undeniable. And if part of those extra players come from the potential pool of ‘real’ raid players, well, that’s just witness to how few people are actually interested in ‘real’ raids.

Cut away the people who are raiding because there’s nothing else new to do (and there isn’t), that’s when you get a realistic sense of how many people actually want to do ‘real’ raiding.
