My guess is that the clothes they converted to tonics have issues that make them unsuitable for use in combat. I can’t think of another reason why they weren’t just converted to outfits.

One thing to consider is that deploying the glider by holding the jump key will result in the glider opening on a predictable point of the jumping arc, and that predictability is useful.

With an alternative deploying method, I fully expect to see “I can’t double-tap fast enough to open my glider at the right time” threads.

Sounds like a convenient system, but doesn’t it use up a lot of inventory space if you want to save more than a few different “looks”?

I don’t know if you’re referring to my comment or not, but if so, the answer is: the stats tab and vanity tab gear are stored on those tabs, not the inventory. If you wanted to haul around extra looks then yes, your inventory would be compromised.

Yes, I was referring to your post. If I understand it correctly, maintaining, for example, 3 different looks would require 20 inventory slots to keep the 2 looks not currently in the paper doll slots.

I’m not sure if I’d prefer that to GW2’s system. It would depend on the value and scarcity of inventory space in that particular game, and I have no clue about that.

Which is exactly the part I envy. I’d love to not have it on my mind anymore. I’d love to just be at the cap right now and be done with it.

ANet will continue to beam it into your mind.

They can’t be bothered providing a bit of in-game clarity regarding the cap. After having hit the cap, you’re still confronted with the dailies panel that comes with the promise of 10 AP. They must like the regular “I’m not getting AP for my dailies” bug threads.

“Agent of Entropy” and several other repeatable achievements make it clear they stop giving AP. Why can’t “Daily Completionist”?

We got cheated out of potential AP again

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Manasa Devi.7958

6 achievements are already auto completed from last year too, so unless it’s a bug, can’t earn those again this year either.

The achievements that returned already completed are the ones giving the 10,000 karma items for the Winter’s Presence collection. We’re not just shorted on AP, but on karma as well.

The patch notes says: Achievements for the Winter’s Presence collection have returned with saved progress from Wintersday 2015.

You’re not shortened on karma. The thing is, you had to consume 10,000 holiday drinks/consumable tonics to complete the achievement to get the masterful toast item that gives you a chunk of karma when consumed.

They couldn’t reset the achievement, otherwise players who had it partially completed and players who hadn’t finished their winter’s presence shoulder skin (but did complete this achievement), would have to start all over with the 10k drinks. And if they reset all achievements so players could get the AP again, a lot of people who had their winter’s presence shoulder skin unfinished would be forced to start the whole thing over. It would make people rather unhappy to lose that progress, especially since I did the winter wonderland JP over 1,000 times to farm gifts for those drinks. (I’d hate to have to go through all that again.)

Nonsense. They could’ve reset them for people who completed them.

The collection is a separate achievement. There are dozens upon dozens of collections that require items that you can still get (and some of them even consume) after you’ve added them to their respective collection.

Does the “Fine dining” collection become messed up when you cook another Spicy Lime Steak? No.

Pre Cursor crafting is a joke!

I would agree with this if the precursor crafting process was remotely enjoyable. It isn’t though.

That’s a personal preference.

So you enjoy standing around for 20 to 60 minutes waiting for events to spawn that take a minute or 2 to complete, a dozen times over?

Edit: Add actual response that was lost:

I crafted a legendary, and I enjoyed it. I went to the event site and if it wasn’t there right away, I moved on. There were only 2 events that I had trouble getting started — 1 was bugged in that it only happened once on a new map and never restarted once it completed. The other I did have to wait 15 minutes for it to spawn.

But all the rest, I didn’t have any trouble getting the event. Sometimes, I bounced back and forth between multiple locations to get an event to start, but one of them would always start within a map rotation or two.

I’d consider bouncing from place to place even worse than just sitting there because then I’d be actively engaged in the tedium instead of just waiting and diverting my attention to more interesting activities on the side.

I realize not all tier 1 collections are as bad as the Dawn one. That one requires 12 events, many of which take place in low level areas and are of the type “blink and you miss it”. But it was the one I wanted to do, so that’s the one I’m judging the system by.

Apart from it taking a disproportionate amount of time spent waiting, the whole thing was yet another new reward for old content, which rubbed me the wrong way too because ANet falls back to that far too often for my tastes.

Replaced 3 so far, no luck yet. Investing in them just to salvage them doesn’t seem like a good gamble to me, considering the drop rates.

If you want to use your gold to buy a precursor then buying it from the TP is for lots of them the cheapest option, especially true if you are one of the “I want it now” people. If you want to get the requirements for your precursor by enjoying the game and playing content then getting it from the collection is the best option.

I would agree with this if the precursor crafting process was remotely enjoyable. It isn’t though.

I’ve been playing since early start, got several precursors which I all sold, and I could’ve bought the one I wanted from the TP several times over. I didn’t though, because they’d announced “precursor hunts” back in, I think it was 2013. I waited, for years, and was greeted with something completely terrible. The type of gameplay that would make me quit a game if it was actually required to progress. The price of precursor crafting doesn’t even figure into my revulsion, though I can see how it would for some people.

Precursor crafting is for the “Epicness” to whoever made the achievement. It is never meant to reduce the cost to acquire one but to reduce the RNG factor besides pulling from TP instead.

If “Epicness” is cool kid slang for “Tedium”, I agree.

I did the tier 1 collection for Dawn. Of the time it took me, most of it was spent standing around waiting for events to start. Some events in the early game areas had me waiting an hour or more, only to finish them in a minute or so. Awful way to spend time. It was about as “epic” as watching grass grow.

When I finished and saw the materials it took, I had a good laugh and never looked back.

That “Elixir Addiction” daily would work just fine if people, while doing the story, gained a permanent way to deal with the bitter cold instead of one that ends at daily reset.

That way, people would be able to go anywhere in the area and do whatever they want after completing the story, including brewing another elixir for the daily even though they don’t actually need it.

Brewing an elixir for the daily isn’t such a great deal to begin with, by the way. The reward hardly justifies the cost.

The difficulty depends for a lot on the combat style you’re trying to accomplish it with. Full on melee wading into groups of grubs and killing them when the abomination is on top of you is really easy. Trying to do it ranged takes a lot more maneuvering, but once you figure it out, it’s not that hard.

It helps to know that when you kill a grub of one type, all nearby grubs of the other type will blow up as well. Useful if you’re not using cleaving attacks. I think the 2 groups outside are there to teach that mechanic. Easy to miss if you just cleave them all into oblivion though.

One minor thing in the new map and you get this depressed? It’s really easy to make another elixir in case you failed to actually use it, it’s not even that hard to pay attention what ingredients you need for it. Like I’m super casual, but I still manage to do things right. I actually like the idea of environmental hazards in new maps.

I can agree that it’s kind of stupid (but is it intended?) to disable Firestone if you choose to replay the story for achievements. But once you are done, you don’t ever have to return to that place, unless you are going to farm those mobs, but there is easy alternative anyways.

I really don’t understand this at all. Go collect a few eggs for the griffons and while in the area collect winter berries. You can collect almost 50 without much effort and you don’t need anywhere near that. Move to the Grawl area and kill trolls in the caves until you get the heart. Killing trolls will get you suet and by doing it for the heart you also gain access to the fire stone.

That’s all the parts. Now, go to the hot spring and then go to bed, or whatever. The next time you come back you have all the parts and where you need to be to combine them. Then you can just do the Bitter Cold part, it doesn’t take long.

It’s not that it’s hard or anything, it’s just simple irritation that makes people not want to do it again. When you’re irritated with a game, you don’t want to play it at that time.

It happened to me too. Made the elixir and made my way to the start of the instance in the Bitter Cold. I decided to call it a night because just after to midnight is too late for me to get into an instance I’ve never done before. Next day, I logged in and instantly died. When I figured out I needed to make another elixir, I was irritated and logged off.

The crux of the matter is, a game shouldn’t irritate you. Irritation is the exact opposite of what one expects from a game. No one here needs to be told what to do in the game to get around it. It’s obvious. What you need is for the game not to erode your desire to play it.

And then there’s the issue that if you reactivate the chapter after you finish it, to do the achievement in that instance, you suddenly can’t buy firestones from the heart merchant anymore. Can’t make another elixir unless you do the entire story again. More irritation.
