Why can't it be like in the GW1...and Gifts

I agree with the gifts.

But why cant it be like GW1?

Because….it’s GW2. Otherwise they would’ve called it Guild Wars 1.1

“I’m having the same issues too. Been having it for a while and the recent one i lost almost 1g from hidden tax. I sold 2 exo armor for 4g 50s, but i only get 2 g 65 s from the pick tab. 10% = 45s, so i should be getting at least 4g from the sales. TP is kinda messed up.”

You’re totally missing something here.

First, yes, there is a 10% sales tax. So your sale will cost you 15% worth of taxes/fees.

Second, you likely only sold one of your items, and the other is still listed.

Check to make sure that you actually sold both. Either way, the numbers don’t add up.

As for grinding, no one likes to grind all the time (i mean, i shouldnt say no one, i guess some do, but grinding isnt really fun in itself.) Like the above player, i do enjoy a little grinding, but it shouldn’t even come close to being the thing i spend most of my time doing in a video game. I already have a job.

As for Colin, yes, ANet made a game that lets you play the way you want to. You can grind if you want to. Go ahead. No one is stopping you. I think the overall goal, however, is to remove that part of the game where the players whose actual circumstances allow them to grind all day long get a noticeable financial advantage for doing it.

Anti farm script stops players from grinding. I run into it routinely in 15 -30mins of playing. So no, I cant grind if I want to and yes ANET is stopping me. So…… based on the manifesto I should be able to get what I want in a fun and exciting way. What are my options? DEs? Welcome to DRs and essentially “grinding” DEs. WvWvW? Welcome to teleports, transfer spies, and typically one server completely dominating the maps to the point of camping outside the spawn areas to get their tokens. Dungeons? Wasnt there a cap on rewards just put in? Guess thats out. Just buy the crap off the TP? Hmmm if you dont buy gems > convert to gold > profit…… then how do you make money? You could play the TP mini game and flip items….. but wait ANET doesnt want us standing there doing the same thing over and over again.

See where this is going….. at this rate most of us got sold a lemon. So much for playing how we wanted to right.

I wish i had enough energy to respond to this properly…youre just too worried about making money and getting certain mats, instead of playing the game and having fun.

Dude, don’t play. GW2 will be fine without you.

Ok, well, this thread kinda move away just a bit. But is coming back. Yes, as one said, I think i saw other similar thread as this one. But is weird that is no direct answer from Anet, but i guess is fine. Is something we will learn as the game goes. As we all know the game still on is crawling phase. With more time, it will mature and be better to all. I just hope that mats stop becoming more expensive than the out come product after creation, because that to me makes no sense.

Is like seen rare weapons (yellow) go for silver. I though something of such rarity will go for more.

The thing about rare weapons (yellow) is just that, they’re not rare. They’re all over the place. The game is overflowing with them. So of course they will sell for less to nothing. No demand = low price.

I agree with this and its something that has annoyed me since time began and the fish crawled out of the sea… Rare items do not really seem that rare to me.. Although they are slightly rarer in GW2 than many other mmo i have seen.

I’m happy with the fact legendarys are real legendarys and take extraordinary measures to aquire. It would be quite puppy, err i mean kitten, to see loads of legendarys floating about..

I see why the stats are equal on weapons like legendarys compared to exotics, i see the thought proccess behind it but i dont agree with it tbh i prefer if they were a tiny bit stronger.

That would require a terrible grind to acquire something that would give an advantage to some players. That’s not fun for everyone. That sounds like WoW.

Statements retracted

Colin Johanson (game designer) clearly states ANET/ NCsoft does not want players grinding. Thank you Colin Johanson, for selling me a game that allows me to play how I want to, and then not allowing me to play how I want to. Would you like to comment on that Mr. Colin Johanson? Perhaps you could explain how players can make gold or construct a legendary 100% grind free?

Thank you for the citation Jezath. Looks like I will be shifting my beef with not being able to grind into the issue of not being able to earn gold or items in a constant fun and exciting manner.

I was away from my computer for a little while but i would of so posted the link the MMO manifesto lol. Thats exactly where i understood where ANet was going with GW2.

No one should be forced to clear a map over and over and over for countless hours just to gain a few mats.

@phanmc “I believe that’s true, I usually don’t zone out to a new location on a game session (mainly to reduce waypoint costs) and as long as I’m wandering around doing different DEs I haven’t encountered the diminishing returns.”

Neither have I. As mentioned by someone else earlier, ANet doesnt want people sitting there doing the same thing over and over…and that includes crafting. You can easily level your crafting disciplines as you level your character…That’s why there’s crafting tiers. You should (emphasis on should) accrue enough mats for your particular tier in your particular crafting expertise through normal gameplay…i say “should” because as we know, drops are unexpected and you can’t rely on getting exactly what you need. But exploring your level areas and mapping places out, as well as DE’s, dungeons, etc, will help to accumulate enough mats…the balance of what you need to buy (hopefully) shouldn’t be too much…

Don’t forget, you only have 2 crafting disciplines…meaning the mats you get for other disciplines that you choose not to do can easily be traded/sold for the mats you need.

Worried about mastering all crafting disciplines on one character? Well, in that case, it seems you will have to play a while to get enough mats and master them all…unles you start a new character and, through its natural progression, you will gain the mats you need.

ANet wants to remove the boring grind from the game, so whenever it feels like you’re grinding and doing something over and over because you think it will serve some purpose….stop! Do something else, have fun, and you will be rewarded.

With all respect if you are having issues with a ranger, you going to have more issues with every other class

You could try a guardian I guess, but like I said ranger is the easiest

Really? What about warrior?

Warrior def > ranger def
Warrior dps > ranger dps

I’ve been using a ranger, lvl 65 now, and i dont find it particularly easy to handle large mobs with just me and my pet…especially the Risen. It’s doable for sure, with all you have at your disposal, but it takes practice…theres a learning curve.

I’ve also found that, as another player mentioned here, mobs seem to rush you as a ranger. I’m not sure if this is because you’re ranged as stated, or if its a fundamental design flaw, but it just seems to be the case in large mobs…they bypass my pet sometimes. In smaller fights, my pet can effectively tank.

With the right build + attribute point + armor/wep mods + pet, you can easily be very effective as a ranger.

No listing fee if your selling price match an order ?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mario Lemieux.9107

Mario Lemieux.9107

@ Vesuvias I totally agree. It’s completely a buyers market. Especially when they have all the power because of a list of sell offers on the TP…there’s no doubt that when buying something, they will simply get the lowest price.

This in turn pushes sellers to sell just a little lower than the lowest seller, and this continues going until the price reaches a point where its vendor value, at which point selling on the TP results in loss.

In my opinion, the buyer should not see a list of offers, because why would anyone in the right mind want to buy item X from you for 51C when i’m selling for 50C? There should be some sort of average price displayed, calculated by the selling/buying prices for a particular item from the past 24hrs. That way, when buyers go on the TP for something, they will see this “guide price” and make a reasonable offers somewhere around it.

The same would be for sellers, in order to avoid the immediate “Sell to highest buyer” pitfall which can also plummet prices. I think the reason why players use this so much is because of the 10% listing fee….if they list their item a little higher, hoping to get a decent profit from their sale, they will lose that 10% if they dont sell. Some (if not most) would rather not take that chance, especially in this flimsy economy.

EDIT: forgot to comment on OP idea. I don’t see this as a solution…instead, this would be an incentive for sellers to just meet the current highest buyer (whose offer could be grossly low) instead of making their own sell offer. Buyers get the power.

Not. In insane battles, it goes to 45-30. Normally, I get 60 stable everywhere else. (V-sync on)

So yea, 120 exploring and 90 WvW seems a little off to me as well…but then again, so many people have had the exact same setups and experienced completely different performance, so everything is a little off right now…

“It can’t be that hard right?”

Right. So why don’t you go on over to ANet HQ and do it yourself then?

I’m sure they will handle this appropriately, and i’m sure they’re working on it.

“Every other game uses my GPU perfectly and gives me really nice framerates (even BF3 is nearly maxed out now and runs smooth as butter) but somehow your weird engine won’t use it in WvWvW in situations where it is really needed.”

Everyone with FPS issues comes here and complains about how some other game runs so and so with ultra, etc, etc…but this is GW2. Go play those other games then.

Check these forums for possible FPS fixes posted by other players, which may or may not work. But honestly, enough with the kittenness (yes, i wrote kitten, and not some other profanity).

Mario Lemieux.9107

I ran a fun game in GW1. I chose a location (a city in GW1, because world wasnt persistent, so only place where any player could find me was a city), and hid there.

Then, on a popular Guidl Wars fansite, i posted a haiku (like a poem) with a cryptic clue about where i was in the world. The clues varied in difficulty, as well as prizes. The first 3 to find me would win something. When they did, i would post that the next clue would be up in 5-10min…(i prepared haikus in advance for each session). Players ahd to refresh the page where i posted the haikus to find the new clue.

This usually went on for 1-2 hours per session, and i must have done it about a dozen times.

During the time i was doing this, a popular gaming radio station (Blade Radio) advertised my hunt, so more people would join in. In a few instances, i requested that they play a specific song which would be the clue to my location. It was tons of fun.

Sometimes a second person would help me out, and we’d have a double dose of fun.

This is an excellent idea for anyone who would like to do it, especially, as the OP put it, since you can do it now anywhere in the world, since it’s persistent. The only drawback would be that only players on your particular server could participate. And yea, of course tonics makes it even more fun.

If ANet decides to put up forums dedicated to specific servers, that would be a definite asset for this kind of game…

I do plan on doing it again, when the time is right…

It seems very unlikely they will introduce CoD mail, or any other mechanic that allows people to trade outside of the TP. I’m surprised you can send items through mail as it is, and I won’t be surprised if they decide to remove that feature in the future.

I agree with everything else you said [tip, when disagreeing with someone, always start with commendation of some sort…it softens the blow and helps them see your point of view ]

I don’t agree with this though. I often send items to and receive items from my brother and other guildies through the mail system…we do it to give each other items related to our professions which are useless to us. If Anet removes this feature…many will be upset, and there will be virtually no reason to keep P2P mail in the game any longer.

You don’t write in how much gold you want to spend on copper…granted, it’s slightly different because you also modify the quantity…but the principle is the same.

Only thing I agree with in OP and first reply is that players use TP as a “trash bin” to free up inventory. Certainly that can be regarded as an exploit of sorts?

Are you kidding me here? What’s people’s problem with this?

An exploit? Seriously? Are you forgetting the listing fee they’re paying?…Do you still see it as an exploit now?

Is it going to stop you from buying on the TP, or selling? Does it matter?

So – to what you mention up there – you want the lowest price when you are buying – correct – now don’t just buy it from what is offered – make your own offer.

I made the same mistake in the beginning, blissfully unaware selling my good out of my pocket – I did not get the best price for them.

Yesterday I needed jute scrap – I did not just buy it, I made my own offer and not even half an hour later my order was filled – for a better price.

Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

Edit: Once everyone understands this, prices will normalize for the most part. At least that’s what I believe.

I totally agree with that. Buyers should definitely put their own offer in, they have nothing to lose….if they don’t get it for their price, then big deal, they take their money back. Sellers, on the other hand, have everything to lose…5% listing fee is gone if they don’t end up selling. This can happen more than once if they take their listing off and re-list for a lower price.

I guess what i’m trying to say is that it’s a buyers market, that’s what it seems for the most part. When it comes to sought-after crafting materials, that seems to disappear. It stabilizes. But other than that, the buyers have the power. They get to choose from a list of prices, and they’ll just pick the lowest one.

The sellers, on the other hand, just get to see what the highest buyer is currently offering, and if they don’t opt with that, they will either match the lowest seller, or take a chance in pricing their item higher than the lowest seller…and when they do take that chance, their listing becomes an afterthought for buyers.

Unless the price of the item is rapidly increasing (which for the most part is not happening right now) I don’t see the balance here.

Mario Lemieux.9107

Ok, i read the OP. Very good wrap up of the GW2 economy, you seem to know youre stuff. I didnt read all the other replies because, lets face it, the OP already took me too long to read as it is.

One user posted:

“I think the most basic thing to realize is the difference between
“meet the highest buyer” and “match lowest seller”.
So in a nutshell from my perspective:
Never match the highest buyer if you are selling and never just buy for the lowest price but make your own offer.”

I dont think this is realistic. As a buyer, i definitely want to get whatever it is i want to buy at the LOWEST price, no matter what. There’s no benefit in buying higher…you’re not going to make a dent in the market if you do. It’s only normal that you’d want to spend the least to buy something, like IRL.

Here’s what i think should be changed about the TP…it’s just my opinion, i’m not an economist like some here, but i think it could help with the issue that everyone seems to match the lowest seller (keeping prices low) and also matching the highest buyer (who usually is buying considerably lower than the lowest seller) and therefore putting all the power in the hands of the buyer. Here’s my suggestion:

-Don’t show sellers what price others are selling your given item at. That will not allow the next seller in line to sell one C lower than the last guy, etc, etc…until the price reaches Vendor price, at which point there is definite loss in profit.

-Don’t show buyers the prices that different sellers are selling at. They will automatically buy at the lowest price (who would say: "Nah, im gonna give that players 2S for that Claw instead of giving that player 1S), thus pushing sellers to meet that lowest seller, thus lowering prices. The power is in their hands this way.

-DO show buyers how many of their item they want are being sold, and by how many sellers (valuable data). DO show sellers how many buyers want their item, and how many orders there are.

-DO show sellers and buyers some sort of “guide price” for that particular item they’re selling/buying. This guide price would be the average price that the item is selling for. Players can then make their own custom selling offer (can be higher or lower than the guide price) and buyers can also make their own custom offers to buy an item (again, can be higher or lower than guide price).

This approach gives the market a level of flexibility. The price of any given item can rise or fall, depending on demand and supply, rather than putting much of the power in the buyer’s hand by simply choosing the cheapest price available.

That way, the price of an item will be determined roughly by what it sells at on average, and not by the best deal you can find. The reason why many items dropped to Vendor’s price is simply because everyone lowers their selling price based on the lowest seller’s price, in order not to have their item sit on the TP to the point where the price drops so far down that they can’t sell it (while also losing their listing fee).

Again, i’m not an economist and i could be wrong, just a suggestion.

Lost sound in WvW

Ok so this is the exact problem I had a few days ago, it has only happened twice since the release. It happened when I was in the middle of some crazy action, meaning minimum 30-50 players all around going crazy with AoE action and whatnot.

First thing, the sound seemed to have crashed and i got the “WOOWWW..OWWWWW…OWWWW” sound as described by the OP.

The first time this had happened, it was in an intense DE. The sound thing happened, and i just continued playing normally for like 30 minutes, no problem. Got annoyed, restarted the client, everything was back to normal.

The second time this happened, it was in WvW. Sound thing happened, and about no more than 30 seconds later, the game completely froze, and the sound changed to like a high-pitched glitchy yell. I had to do a hard restart on my PC.

Posted about it a few days ago, no answer. Wonder if it’s the sound drivers, or maybe even the CPU overheating because of all the action. Have kept tabs on my temps since then.

Sounds like you should try playing as an elementalist, or a mesmer. Played as a mesmer in the beta, and it was tons of fun. Same for Ele…but fi you’re worried about performance issues when there’s action, you still might get some with your Mesmer/Elementalist skills and whatnot….unfortunately, this isn’t something you can avoid since you will be exposed to this from all angles in PvP and WvW…

Waypoint Costs

There are plenty of ways to make easy gold in game to cover the costs.
Seems you just did not discovered them all. The possibilities are great and this game has a lot to offer. Lazy players should not be rewarded.
For example nourishments and consumables that increase gold drop or magic find boost from either consumables or equipment stats, traveler, pirate or noble runes and much much much more……

Anyway this is not a bug and this thread should be closed or moved to players helping players on money making tips.

Genius, this is Players Helping Players.

And, define lazy players?

Lazy players does not = players who need to make time to play GW2 because they have other endeavors, and would rather not spend their small allotted playing time running around from one gigantic zone to the next to get to their eventual destination after 45 minutes.

Yes, there are easy ways to make gold. However, as mentioned often here, there seem to be enough money sinks in the game as it is. I agree that waypoints should cost something to use, but scaling the price to the degree that is at now seems a tad much.
