[sugg] dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mario Lemieux.9107

Mario Lemieux.9107

I totally agree with OP.

(I havent read every single comment here, so some things may have been mentioned) As some have mentioned, Guild Wars 1 had a daily system, the “Zaishen” dailies. There was 1 of each: Bounty, Combat, Mission, Vanquish. The rewards were experience, some gold, some sort of faction (currency), and some Zaishen coins, which were exchangeable for a variety of goods, including salvage kits, experience scrolls, equipment bags, even some weapon skins and items that counted towards titles.

Since Anet already have a system like that running in GW1, it wouldn’t be too much of a challenge to integrate a daily system like that, and reward players similarly.

For example:

Bounty = Kill world champ X.
Combat = Something PvP related.
Dungeon = Finish Path X in Dungeon X.
Slayer = Kill 30 ettins today (would make it an interesting way to slowly work towards a Slayer achievement as well)
Fun = Finish jumping puzzle X or mini-dungeon X.

This could even extend to having a weekly reward for killing Tequatl or Triple Trouble Wurm.

Finishing those daily “quests” could reward you with, just like the GW1 quests, a little but of experience, some silver, some karma, and also a token, as OP mentioned, comparable to the Zaishen coin system, which you could accumulate and eventually exchange for things like boosters (exp, karma, magic find, etc), skillpoint/level scrolls, salvaging equipment, ascended mats, obs shards, t6 materials, etc. Things that are already offered with laurels, but this would be a way more entertaining way to do it. Vanity items like minis and skins could also be offered for more coins, etc. Even some collection items could be sold for this currency, in fact a collection could even be solely attached to this daily quest system with its own unique reward for completing a certain amount of the challenging daily quests. The possibilities could be far greater than what im mentioning here.

And just like GW1, the quests could have varying difficulty tiers. The harder the tier you complete, the more “tokens” you get.

This would be able to accommodate a variety of the GW2 playerbase and allow players to really pick and choose what specific content they want to do for their rewards, rather than “dodge 30 times” as the OP so aptly put it, and would likely prompt more to login more frequently.

Living Story Has Killed the Game for me

in Living World

Mario Lemieux.9107

I read the original post, but not the entire blob of posts after it, so I may be repeating what some others have said.

I do agree that the sheer amount of content released (every 2 weeks) could have someone feeling confused once they login after not playing for a little while. But what did you expect?

If you were to go into a coma in your actual real life, and wake up 6 months later, the world might be a little different. Sure, you’d be confused, not sure what’s going on. But then maybe you’d read the newspaper, or google the events of the past 6 months to get yourself up to speed. Then you’d understand the world you woke up to.

The same goes for GW2. Maybe you took a break, and that’s fine. But the game moves on. This is especially true since Anet implemented the “Living Story”…we all knew that new content would be released every 2 weeks, and that includes the continuation of the lore/world developments, ie. Lions Arch getting destroyed, etc. It’s not anyone’s fault that once you login after a period of inactivity that you feel “lost”. It’s kind of normal…but if you would have read up on some of the developments that took place in the game since you last played, and maybe read up on some of the continued lore that Anet provided, then you’d have felt caught up, and the game world would once again make sense to you.

When it comes to the mindless zerging, though, i totally agree with you. But that’s a whole other discussion…

Yep – thanks! Kind of answered my own question just now, too.

Just did it one more time, didn’t go down at all and carefully watched everything and got them both.

Not going down at all was likely the key.

This.

This is true, i avoided all lasers meticulously, even waiting a few seconds before walking over the path of where the scorch marks WERE after they disappeared, yet, i went down once during the whole ordeal, during the 3 holo phase, and didnt get the achievement when we succeeded.

It’s frustrating because this supposed requisite is nowhere to be found in the achievement description, and doesn’t seem intended. Yet, not fixed in the latest update 15min ago.

Is simple: stop DEBUFFING. Players dont like to hear “you will do less damage” “you will now loot less” “you will now be less interested in our game”

Stop taking things AWAY from players.

For goodness sakes, why was it IMPOSSIBLE to just freakin BUFF the other stat combos??? Slightly BUFF the power/prec/crit dmg, or whatever else is viable, for the other stat sets?!?!

Abominable decision here. Wonder how many will consider this their last straw with Anet.

Another example: (quote from dulfy) “We moved stat weights to later bonuses (i.e. 4, 5, 6) so people don’t use mix-match rune bonuses.”

Why? Let people be creative and mix and match. Why the hell would you do this?
You might as well not let us mix and match armor skins.
While you’re at it, only 1 dye color per armor set.

Gosh this game has come a long way…down.

What CryxTryx said.

Most people run dungeons for the gold or the tokens, in which case they want (and in my case, I expect) efficiency. Your screen shot shows 3 dead party members, meaning you guys barely killed the boss. Which means the run must have taken a while and involved several wipes.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind running with sub-80’s. And by running I mean switching to your alt once the boss is dead. I’ll hold the cutscene

Also notice that in the first screen shot the OP is displayed as a low level character, yet for the boss he has logged on his 80.

This leads me to believe that the boss was not downed on first attempt.

Based on the clock in the screen shots the dungeon also took over an hour to complete.

First screen shot shows the party already past the spider boss at 4:36 and the dungeon was completed at 5:19.

Posted by: Mario Lemieux.9107

Mario Lemieux.9107

First off, yes, it’s extremely stupid how such a rampant problem like this is still around over a year later.

The way I see it, dungeon instances should never have a leader. As long as 1 person in the party has Explorable unlocked on their toon, ANYONE should be able to open the instance for the whole party. Meaning instance are owned by ALL FIVE PEOPLE, and not just one person. As long as one person remains in the instance and party, the instance should always be alive.

To force players to play an instance in 4 because the ‘instance owner’ disconnected, for example, is outrageous. And to force all party members to leave the instance because the ‘instance owner’ was a little brat and felt like ditching, is ridiculous.

Yet here we are, over a year since launch, and it’s the same BS. If ArenaNet really cared about their playerbase, they’d shift their focus from the next gem-store skin (for just a second) to changing the way this works which will have a guaranteed positive reaction from the entire GW2 community.

Im certain this has been brought up before in this forum, yet update after update, there’s no fix.

On path 3, AC, after the part where you destroy 4 burrows in a large room and start heading toward final boss, Tzark sometimes bugs out and gets stuck behind a wall if someone/anyone in party uses the WP to quickly bypass the door rather than waiting 10 seconds.

This requires a restart, which is rather annoying, since that is practically the end of the path.

PLEASE, look at this persistent bug.

As mentioned in title, the Tiptoe achievement is not happening for me.

I have done it time and again, and am about to give up now…from what I know, there are 3 groups of prominent Hillbillies….

One of them is right after a waypoint, before the log/crocodile/waterfall hop. Those are super easy to avoid. Done.

Next is the kittene, right next to the shop. I grabbed the invis power up, and made sure i ran to the left of the tree not to trigger any explosive barrels…got through the checkpoint and no hillbilly was aggrivated.

Next group is the end, on a high hill opposite the final boss cage, which i didnt even go near.

Completed the level at least 3 times like this without angering hillbillies and wasn’t rewarded the achievement.

Anyone else having this issue? If not, is there something im doing wrong?

Mario Lemieux.9107

^ It is a form of prestige, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. While I’m happy that others now can access the content and get the achievements, there should be recognition for those of us there first.

After all, if not for those that played it and enjoyed it originally, it wouldn’t have enjoyed the support and success it did, and the subsequent motivation to bring it back because of that popularity.

Some recognition for that would be nice.

I played SAB when it came out in April and got all the achievements/skins/title.

However, what you’re saying here basically is: “We’re the reason that you new players can play SAB, so please, acknowledge that I’m special and that if it weren’t for me finding delight in this content, you wouldn’t be enjoying it right now.” “You’re new, and I’m better than you”.

This is so childish, elitist, and is (as others above have mentioned) a desperate attempt for attention and glory.

Content released and re-released into the game is there for the enjoyment of old and new players alike. What Anet is doing here is a good step forward in not punishing new/existing players who unfortunately weren’t around for some time-gated content.

Boo to you.

Question about Precursor crafting

in Crafting

Posted by: Mario Lemieux.9107

Mario Lemieux.9107

Indeed, me too. I’d like to have a read up on this.

However I wouldn’t expect a solid answer on the specifics until they’ve finalised the details, but a glimpse at what they have planned would be nice.

Here:

“New Crafting Material Rewards

We’ll also add a new set of account-bound crafting materials to the game. You’ll receive these materials as guaranteed rewards once per day per unique location for completing content within a category of gameplay in Guild Wars 2.

For example, capturing camps, towers, and keeps in WvW will earn you these crafting materials. In the Living World, you can earn them for killing giant world bosses, defeating dungeons, completing jumping puzzles, completing mini-dungeons, finishing some types of guild missions, capturing temples in Orr, and other activities.

Mix it up and try your favorite mini-dungeons one day, your favorite jumping puzzles the next day, and on an another day capture supply camps in WvW instead to earn the crafting material. Or if you want to do all three in one day, the choice is yours! Players can earn each of these guaranteed reward crafting materials from a variety of content across both PvE and WvW to give players choice in what type of content they enjoy."

This means you can get these new crafting materials doing whatever you like.

When it comes to T7 materials:

“Crafting Taken to 500!

We’ll expand all crafting professions to allow them to reach a new milestone: 500 points!
At 500, crafters will be able to craft ascended weapons and armor. Once you reach 500, a new tier of crafting materials will be available to you; this new tier of materials will be made by combining lower tier materials. This tier is time-constrained, so each item can only be made once per day in order to help give high-level crafters their own economy of items to build and sell that retain their value and rarity."

New crafting materials + T7 materials will be used in this way:

“This new tier of crafting material [T7], along with the new guaranteed material rewards mentioned earlier and some other materials we’ll introduce will be used to craft ascended weapons, armor, and more. These weapons and armor will also be able to be found as rare drops from locations in the world. Ascended weapons and armor will remain account-bound like other ascended gear.”

When it comes to Legendary Gear and Precursors:

“Building your precursor will require a large amount of the new crafting material rewards listed above, 500 in crafting, and likely a combination of other items earned for completing more specific content in the game.”

All of this is taken from the article that the OP linked, above.

The proper way to fix the dungeons would be to make them available to all players no matter how many people in the party. The dungeon would be just as hard for 1 or 15 players. Or if that is impossible to give players Hero’s to use instead of pug groups.

Well really you can play how you want, just we can’t expect to be rewarded for how we want to play. Also lodestones for tokens would be great. But than people that don’t like dungeons would complain that they are “forced” to run them to get lodestones.

Lodestones for dungeon tokens is just an example, that is brought up now because of the recent dungeon reward system changes. But i mean..the same logic could apply to many parts of the game. Fractal relics, karma, laurels…anything.

Dungeon update not solve grind problem.

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Mario Lemieux.9107

Mario Lemieux.9107

The point would be that instead of farming dungeons for gold (in which case all parts of the game are competing with each other for the best method to access gold) gold is removed as the common value item. Arah armour has a set value because it can only be obtained in Arah. You can’t run CoF or AC in the easiest path every day obtain it, you have to run Arah.

If a player is running CoF for money to buy lodestones, it would make more sense to make lodestones reliable drops from specific dungeons (or purchases with dungeon tokens) to give players a way to obtain those items as drops in the game. They wouldn’t have to circumvent the system and farm Orr or easy mode dungeons, they would be running specific dungeon content to earn their rewards. Different dungeons could possess different crafting materials and item rewards. Players who want Kudzu would be farming TA, players who want Incinerator would be farming CoF. Different paths could be rewarded differently (similair to how the gold rewards will vary based on path length and difficulty). This would spread players out across the world and give them specific content to complete to obtain items instead of encouraging them to find the path of least resistance to the most reward and repeat that until their eyes bleed. Gold could still be a lesser component of item acquisition (or an optional alternative) but it wouldn’t be the be-all end-all of the item hunt. Content itself would actually be rewarding. Generalising rewards across the game reinforces the grind the path of least resistance mentality, resulting in parts of the world devoid of players. Content specific rewards are great for reinforcing the value of all content.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. Let me reinforce your point.

Example: Player 1 is farming CoF p1. Why? Because he needs tons of gold for those Charged Lodestones. Why doesn’t he farm charged lodestones somewhere? Because they don’t drop reliably. So farming CoF p1 is the path of least resistance. He makes his gold, and buys them, which is easier than farming them, thereby making this easy dungeon path the solution to this problem.

Instead: Reward players with what they really want/need. Let Charged Lodestones be bought from token vendors from the CoE Vendor, for X amount of tokens. Now, Player 1 isn’t forced to grind CoF p1, and can, yes, grind CoE.

But hey at least that results in: 1) Playerbase being spread out into all dungeons, not focusing on ONE path because its so easy and rewards gold as the solution to your needs, and 2) so that you can get the item you REALLY want, which are the lodestones, or whatever else it may be in your case.

Each dungeon could offer unique rewards which are the REAL items that players want/need, rather than force them to grind/farm a completely unrelated piece of content for the gold reward.

This doesn’t seem too complicated or ridiculous. It seems very doable and reasonable.

Rather, ANet decides: 1) Let’s nerf the amount of gold players get from dungeon bosses. Okay. Fine. No problem. But…we can assume now that many players’ income of gold will be greatly reduced. Maybe you should introduce a way to obtain the expensive items we need now? At the moment, there is no reliable way to farm, say, 100 Charged Lodestones. You might say: farm CoE. Okay. But then, doesn’t that amount to the same thing as constantly farming CoF p1? It’s all the same, it’s all grind.

They really didn’t implement a solution. What they really did is decided to quell the playerbase that had a problem with farming one particular instance, and masked that with the introduction of the Champion Loot bags.

Sure, the Champion Loot bags are supposed to drop lodestones, rarely. But that doesnt mean they will drop what you need.

This, in essence, defies Arenanet’s stance on how we should be able to play Guild Wars 2: “Play how YOU want.”

Actually I have a solution that’s even easier. Change the way Defiant works. The more critical hits and raw damage a boss takes in a short period of time, the more power they gain. Eventually they should get to the point of one-hit KOs.

The balance of this would using conditions and condition damage to lower Defiant to the point where bosses become Vigilant. In this state, they are more susceptible to conditions and condition damage but gain toughness.

This will allow players to decide if they want to try killing a boss before it kills them or go for the more slow and controlled route. Better yet, some may try to keep the boss in balance to maximize all types of damage while keeping the risk relatively low.

What a terrible idea. This would go completely against ArenaNet’s philosophy to allow players to “play how you want to play”. Forcing players to use conditions or forcing them to slow down their raw dmg/crit hits, is completely ludicrous and is a cheap solution to bigger problem.

Not to mention…so many complain about the fact that you see too many ‘War/Mesmer only’ groups….well, in your scenario, you’d end up seeing the same, if not more class-specific groups forming, where players who aren’t running the perfect build for the boss fight aren’t accepted into groups.

No one is forcing you to do/not to do CoF p1. If you want to make some quick cash compared to some other aspects of the game, then do it. If it seems too easy to you and you love complaining about it, they dont do it. Changing CoF p1 with the intention of curbing/stopping gold farming in CoF p1, will funnel players into yet another aspect of the game which will yield quick cash, although probably a little less than CoF p1. Or will force people to play the TP more….YAY! Fun.

Play the game for yourself and stop worrying about how other people are playing it.
