Lets face it the simple fact is that Anet don’t give a hoot about outmanned why would they be concerned out the minority of the game as a whole.
Yes the bigger and better servers have more players 24/7 they are the ones spending the cash and enjoying what they reap from it.
It’s all down to the mighty buck in the end those who pay the most gain the most, it’s the way it is on any MMO that has a cash system.
Get the masses winning for that feelgood attitude that they’re willing to add a little extra to something that they enjoy, while the minority are left to wallow in the cesspit of worthlessness.
Anet have stated that they want “everyone to enjoy the game”, well my simple reply to them is put up or shut up with that saying and change it to “we want most to enjoy the game”

This is very cynical, but unfortunately also so very true. :|

Anyway. Making the outmanned buff give stats bonus is a lazy “chewing gum” solution. WvW has so many fundamental design flaws that no simple solution is going to fix it.

One of the most elementary flaws is the naive assumption that everyone wants to play for some common goal. Hell, maybe I want to be an outlaw and just rob everyone on sight. Or maybe a mercenary who works for whoever pays the most.
But no, none of these are possible in gw2. It is automatically assumed that you want to be a loyal soldier and friend of your home server. Ughh, makes me wanna poke.

Thiefs are balanced tbh. I personally have more problems with very agressive warriors or guards with 10 minute burns.
Sure, they use culling a bit but you can just spam “target nearest” to see them. It really isn’t that much of an issue.

Any server that is losing by at least 50,000 points should have the opportunity to summon an entire dispatch of Commando-profession NPCs to fight for them and generally cause chaos. This would only be available during the 24 hour period leading up to reset.

The summon would pull a large number of Commandos (let’s say 100-500) through space and time via the Mists and deposit them into each borderland and EB. They would drop siege to be built and roam around blowing up walls, sniping enemy players and critters at random, calling in air-strikes and generally being a pain in the kitten

The siege would be things such as helicopters, ballistic missile silos, airships, space tanks and orbital death lasers. Helicopters would take 400 supply to build, ballistic missile silos would take 1000 supply, airships would take 2500 supply, space tanks would take 4000 supply and orbital death lasers would take 10000 supply.

This would instantly make it hilarious and fun for the losing server.

I like the idea about space tanks.

But my suggestion is this: the zerger server does not have a downed state.

Portal Bombing Negates Small Defences.

Since the portal nerf, portals are easy to defend against, even with a smaller force. Arrow cart, aoe dmg, aoe push/pull when you see the exit. It’s not much more complicated than that.

If you place the portal in direct LOS of the enemy you deserve to die.

Most decent mesmers don’t, however.

Your tiers mesmers must be better than ours then. We’re only tier 1, what would we know.

Apparently not much.

Lots of valid points here to be honest. Especially this:
dull, uninspired locations
The worlds are little more than static maps with paintable buildings.

I don’t mind the PvE content like Quaggans, Hylek and Dredge as it actually does give benefits to the overal objective. However PvE content like event bosses, grub and jumping puzzles leads people away from the actual competing aspect where the whole WvW is based upon.

If they are willing to make WvW a PvE grindfest then I am pretty sure that while they ensure more PvE’ers come to WvW that they will entirely kill the PvP population willing to play that aspect of the game. And in order to have fun match-ups you basicly need a hardcore WvW community.

Personally I probably will not bother with WvW and Guild-wars 2 anymore if they add stuff like this to WvW and make in a complete mess filled with PvE people who come there not to help the server out but to mainly get personal rewards themselves.
Think if they want to do this they need to add a Guild vs Guild option instead so those actually playing for the fights still have the opportunity to actually do so.

But just why should a player x give a flying kitten about who wins at the end of the week? Maybe they don’t care to join the common pursuit of “abstract numbers that reset every week”. Maybe they just want to hunt treasures in a dangerous area, with more than ai to fight against.

Seriously, if you are just looking for competitive fights and ego stuff, you should go spvp.

In a few days it starts again anyway. and you gain nothing no matter what you did. Not to mention those towers that are repainted 10 times a day.

This means that the fight has a goal: to get valuable resources that benefit your guild. Or in some cases you could be defending for your corporations home lands.

No such thing here. You just fight for some abstract numbers that reset every week. I personally could care less who has most of these points. They are just as meaningless as the abstract line between kurzicks and luxons was in Guild Wars 1. However, I certainly would care to fight for something that would benefit my guild and guildies.

As for benefits, there are some small gathering/hp/gold etc bonuses from wvw. It’s not much but it benefits the whole server.

And? Why would I care more about my world’s stranger than Piken Square’s stranger? And in any case, those bonuses are just mariginal.

This clearly illustrates how crappy wvw has become. GJ on zerging to a serv.
When every single guild joins the higher tiers people will stop playing on lower servs.

You can count on me to join whatever is the best server PS is facing when they move up.

Anyway this is one of the things that will kill this game and tbh considering how mediocre gw2 is it does deserve to be put down and reworked

Well there’s also the bonuses everyone on your server gets the higher your score…

xD The best of those bonuses is the gathering bonus. It is the only bonus that can technically reward you. At best, just before the reset, it can be as much as 20% in theory. So if you spend those hours running around orr and gather stuff worth of 5gold you have now actually made 1 gold more! Yaaaaaaaaay!
You would have profited a lot more by just running fractals ofc, but yay anyway!

I just can’t find much joy from wvw anymore like I used to. Now that people know all the tricks and always abuse them, it’s just a tar ball fest for me. It was more fun when people were new to it and nobody really knew what to do.

Ascended WvW trinkets with WvW specific bonuses.
Bonuses could include:
supply bonus: can carry 2 more supply (stackable)
trebuchet master: trebuchet deals 15% more damage (non stackable)
repair master: repairing is 20% more effective (non stackable)
defender: increases siege damage by 15% when defending against enemy siege (stackable with other bonuses but not with itself)
rammer: grants extra thoughness when using a ram.
.
.
and so on.

I believe that this type of gear would add a nice sense of progression and gear variety without the risk of making the game imbalanced.

ps. The numbers I used are just place holders.

It’s no wonder wvw isn’t fun. It’s not true open world pvp, the maps are small and static and your team is fixed… WvW design if anything, shows that Anet lacks experience in the mmo field. They are still married with their outdated, instance based game design and that shows.

Too bad this game doesn’t have much else to offer. Spvp was much better and more interesting in guild wars 1, pve content is better in almost any other mmo.

What wvw needs is these two things:
-free for all
-friendly fire.
Until that it’s just the hellokitty version of mmos that have true open pvp.

Please keep the drama coming! :PThe overall WvW experience is so steril this is the only way to spice it up a little. Without any drama, the points mean as much as the arbitary luxons-kurzicks line did in Guild Wars 1…

Nice to see Intigo, that you recorded our fights! They were some good duels. It was interesting to see how the fighting looked from your side.

Pleaaaaseeee…. I used to use scale venom, but it’s effects are so mariginal I no longer bother going all the way to the charr area to get it. I do think it should stay though. WvW is already WAY TOO STERIL for open world pvp. If you want steril pvp, spvp is your thing.

Yeah, it pisses me off when a third wheel pops up from somewhere as it often makes the fight trivial. When this happens, I just move away from the fight.

Allright, what you said is also how I have understood it: depends on how much it automates. Personally I wouldn’t want to automate anything. I simply need more skills avaible directly from my mouse as my left hand doesn’t quite have the required dexterity. However, my mouse is a basic one with just 2 buttons and pressable mousewheel. So I thought that my mouse wheel could work as two buttons if I mapped a single to skill to “mouse wheel up” and other to “mouse wheel down”.

What are the rules on keybinding software, like the ones that come with most Joysticks and other game controllers?
Or in general, is it fine to bind say a mouse scroll to a key using a simple script? I have heard differend opinions from differend people, so I’m sort of confused here.
