GW2 meta is for people who don’t know how to use their combat log. You don’t hit for 32k if you’re a warrior, look at the kitten log.

Tribulation Mode Good And Bad
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School
Posted by: Maximillian Greil.1965
I don’t see a problem with it, there’s no reward for doing trib mode, other than some recolored skins
The idea is you won’t be able to do them until you can get the resist to do them easily from what I understand.
There’s really no reason to start acting all high and mighty one way or another. If someone wants to play his own way then let him. Just don’t group with him.
The problem is those people who act like they are somehow entitled to be the only one in a speedclear group who isn’t contributing and act like victims when they get dropped for said lack of contribution. It’s the same (lack of) logic as those people who join a dungeon sell and refuse to pay then start ranting at you when you kick them.
Oh I agree, but the topic is about class balance. The point I was making, the only way you can say the classes aren’t balanced, is if you’re running speed clears, which is not how the game was designed.
if you’re trying to optimize dungeon runs you’re doing it very very wrong xD
Have fun with your hour long dungeon runs
You think content should take less than an hour in any game? Besides, a group that isn’t optimized doesn’t mean it’s totally bad. A decent group, with decent gear, and non-specific classes or non-optimized builds can still clear stuff relatively quickly if the players are good.
There is no reason to intentionally run non-optimal gear unless you’re bad. Content should always be cleared as fast as, or close to as fast as possible. There is no reason to intentionally make content take longer than it has to.
why?
Because get it
There is no reason, short of posting a clear time on a webpage somewhere. If that’s fun for you go ahead, but the main point is PVE in this game is not competitive. There’s no “world’s fastest” achievement, there’s really no dungeon that requires specific classes/builds to be able to complete it. There is absolutely no advantage, short of saving yourself maybe 15 minutes, to run an optimal party. A decent party can clear stuff pretty quickly too, and it doesn’t have to be “PVE meta”
if you’re trying to optimize dungeon runs you’re doing it very very wrong xD

your personal story at that point isn’t exactly personal. Personal stories follow arcs, the reason you were progressed is because you were both on the same arc. You will get the same missions regardless of what your character rolled in the beginning during the Orr Story Arc. So… it’s not really a “personal story” at this point. You would have gotten the same missions regardless.
There ya go, thanks for the correction. Point is, it’s relatively close for most classes, with a few exceptions. In PVE you don’t need optimal builds, or optimal team tactics. Just play with whatever you like running, play with whoever you like running with, and do stuff for fun. This isn’t a hardcore game by any means, if you’re trying to optimize dungeon runs you’re doing it very very wrong xD
@OP the warrior stopped being highest damage months ago. They have the highest displayed damage on GS and Axe… because people see 32k hundred blades and think they’re bad kitten .
The highest damage dealer is the engineer last time I checked. It’s hard as balls to play the build, but it’s there. I think ele follows eng… warrior’s in like the 4th or 5th spot, but I might be going off old information. I think there is class balance, but I agree that warrior has a much easier time doing close to as much damage as other classes.
It’s not luckbase at all. All it takes is watching the field and not getting nervous. I’ve done it on an eng, an ele, a guard, and I’ve seen it done by just about every class. It’s very easy, you just need to practice, and tweek your build to suit the situation.
It took me 111 tries, but now I can do it without even thinking about it XD
I’ll be honest, I think these complaints are something Anet reads and does take into account. You guys have to remember this is something not many other MMO companies have tried before. It’s bound to have a few kinks in the system. Just be patient, I’m sure the next “Boss Arena” will be much better made.
8/10
I like the name… but I feel like Songhaven is derived from an act or a deed, sounds more nornish to me.
My Human Noble Elementalist: Maximillian Greil
The problem is they won’t get the balance right on the “longer” paths. We’re going to end up with one path which will take a group 15 minutes to complete awarding 1g and a another path which takes a group which utilised the right exploits 10 minutes to complete and that path will be worth 2-3g.
so you’re complaining about something you think will happen? have you seen if they didn’t get the balance right? or are you just making an assumption?
I want some actual relevance to the game’s plot in the living story. There are still 4 more dragons screwin around, why haven’t we done anything about them? or more importantly what are they waiting for to attack? Zhaitan already attacked, what are the other guys waiting for?
Ya know… for a world being assaulted by dragons we sure have a lot of parties. I was sort of hoping for an update that wasn’t some kind of celebration.

I just wish some of the content would stay. I wanted to post this on the dungeon thread, because I really think this game needs something new… and something big. The phrase “Guild Warsed Out” is being tossed around on my vent with increasing frequency. It’s not that they’re not putting out content, it’s that they’re taking away the content they put out!
Before I start this post I want to say I’ve been an avid defender of Arenanet against all the nay-sayers. I’ve played the game since GW1’s Beta and was extremely excited for GW2. The game is great! A lot of content updates a staff that listens, interacts, and loves the game and it’s community. They put so much work into this playable work of art and it really shows in all the details of the game.
With that said, I’m disappointed in just one aspect of the game. The “living story” is something that on paper seemed like a great idea… but now that I’ve seen it in practice is extremely disappointing. The idea as far as I can tell is to have the game move in a forward motion through story telling events, dungeons, and dialog/cinematic. This sounds like a great idea! a changing living world! The problem is that a lot of this hard worked content is removed one month later. This leaves that work unseen by many, and leaves the players with the same content we had before the new stuff got added. In GW1 we had holidays, which were great, there was some temporary stuff you could do and it went away simply to come back next year. In here… well I suppose the best example is the Molten Weapons Facility. That was a super fun dungeon that I would have LOVED to see an explorable version of. I don’t see a reason for taking it out of the game. It’s very clear a LOT of work and thought went into it, why remove it? Same with the Super Adventure Box (which I know will return but I’m hoping it stays.) I don’t see a reason to remove it, change the rewards sure but not remove it.
I truly hope a staff member will read this, or further hope that this is already being discussed.
the problem with all these suggestions is that it ceases to be a rare weapon. If everyone has 100% access to the skins then it’s not a rare weapon anymore, and it looses it’s value. I like the system they currently have. most people don’t have one, a very select few do. That select few stand out, which I like.
No matter how difficult it is to acquire, if there’s a 100% chance to get it… the game will be flooded with them. Look how many legendaries are around. Just walk around LA for 5 minutes and you’ll see them all over the place.
I love feeling like I’m vicariously fighting those enemies through my character nerdy as that sounds. i would have picked a human even the story sucked.
I got one, 42 crates in (the troll god was kind to me by giving me a ticket on the 42nd one.)
well lets take a moment here. Sure they’re releasing content in bits and pieces, and sure it’s not really big changes… but how many other games release new stuff (even if it’s just a little bit of new stuff) every month?
the best advice I can give you is to find a good guild. If you’re getting discouraged from running stuff on your ranger, you just need a new crowd to run with.
just watch the cinematics on youtube
1) flashy looking skills
2) complex gameplay
3) all kinds of versatility
4) the wide assortment of weapons and armors
5) RTling off of cliffs
It’s a skin, you don’t need it.
If you want it, start farming/buying. If it’s not worth the trouble than don’t do it. It is not detrimental to your gameplay NOT to have the skin.
I fail to see how this is hurting the playerbase in any way what-so-ever. They’re not giving ascended gear, they’re not giving anything that makes you a better player or gives better stats… it’s just a skin, you don’t need it. You don’t magicly get more awesome because you have a scelerite weapon.
Perhaps not, but theres a portion of the MMO community that like to “progress” in MMOs, even if its something as simple as the newest skin.
The way this RNG seems to be working is like beating your head against a wall, and has really turned me off to this game. I love vertical progression in my MMOs, always have, but this is almost worse than any horizontal progression I done. At least there was a light at the end of the tunnel, this, I’ve given up even trying really.
than this isn’t the MMO for you
Elementalists have the ultimate stun-breaker-Mist Form. Use it. There’s also cleansing flame. Other than that, you should be able to get away with a lot considering you are an ele. Try out the bunker ele build if you are dying so much, because a dead ele < alive ele with small dps. You need to be able to adapt to certain dungeons, there isn’t a 1-build to rule them all. I know a lot of eles who have come along with me in COF p2 that never even downed. No matter how many hours you put in, or how much you think you know your ele, there is room for improvement if you can’t survive, because others can. The Anet blame game is only necessary if no ele can handle this.
Ele has lightning flash, armor of earth, mist form, and cleansing fkittentubreakers. Don’t run bunker if you like being useful to your team.
ok… ready for this? take a stunbreaker.. they break stuns. Let them stack whatever they stack on you and use your SB, or… use your SB and do a barrel roll. Just about every class has a stun breaker. “I’m using utilities that give damage” is not an excuse.
You missed the whole point of my post. Anet isn’t forcing you to do anything. You can just not get the skin.
Yes, i don’t have to play the game either. Your point?
you made it for me.
I’m not a fan of locking cosmetic skins behind RNG either, but I accept that it’s the best compromise ANet could have come up with. The skins don’t grant players unfair advantages in the game, and ANet has to keep the money flowing in to pay the bills. These RNG microtransactions are obviously incredibly profitable, or they wouldn’t keep doing it.
If you really feel that strongly against it, don’t buy it. Tell all of your friends not to buy into the chests. If enough people stop buying the chests, ANet will stop making them. (Of course, the problem is that enough people obviously do feel lucky enough to take their chances that this will probably never happen.)
Personally, I liked the SAB system the best. You have chances for a skin drop from farming the dungeon, but you can also accumulate tokens to buy the skin of your choice. It’s the best of both worlds, and I hope that ANet gives more consideration towards structuring future content to that standard.
^this 100 times
I’d move 5 out of air and throw it into water, that 25 point water minor trait is soooooooo bloody powerful
The goal for ArenaNet is to make money, yes, but I believe that gating new skins behind paid RNG is forsaking long term profits for short term profits.
Your average player is risk averse, and sooner or later they’ll learn to stop buying chests; additionally, paid RNG may even drive customers away from Guildwars towards another game (and there are several major competitors on the horizon). There is also the entire ethical dilemma that ArenaNet’s target market here are individual’s without impulse control or prone to gambling — it really doesn’t paint the company in a positive light.
And @Max: there are alternatives outside of boycotting the boxes, chiefly complaining here and on social media. Just as ArenaNet’s job is to maximize profits it’s our job to maximize our consumer surplus — if enough individuals complain on e.g. twitter, ArenaNet might move away from paid RNG.
right cause ya know… there aren’t people out there addicted to games or anything. Oh man! bars target people who are addicted to booze, we should totally outlaw alcohol. Gotta close all those casinos too! People can get addicted to caffeine, better go picket starbucks.
Honestly, I have no complaints about the skin. I’ve been farming karkas for EVER trying to get one, and I’ll keep farming till I get it. I have noooo problem with that. I understand the company has to make money to stay afloat, and as long as there’s no “pay to win” I’m totally fine with it.
That’s the general idea. Look at the Wintersday Skins, no one uses them because they were soooo common. It’s been 5 months since Wintersday and the skins are still at less than 10 silver.
The idea behind rare items is to give them value. Yes, putting them in lottery boxes is a way to make money, and yes they are a company that needs to make money to continue to keep the game running, but no one is forcing you to get this skin. If you think it’s unfair or you don’t like the way it’s implemented… the solution is simple, don’t get it.
Are you really comparing winterdays skins to the f/f and the one from southsun? Why not compare them to the halloween event that shield skin still sells for over 200g.The reason why people dont use the winterdays skins are because of how they look not because they are common.
I wont even bring up the sab skins and how many people are using them and anyone could get them. The reason why the new skins are in crates is to make money. It has nothing to do with trying to keep them rare.
ok, I’ll play that game. Lets say that they’re in the crate to make money. No one is forcing you to get one. They need to make money, they’re a company who sells a game. You don’t like the system that’s being used… alright cool, don’t use it. Keep playing the game, you don’t need a new skin to enjoy the game.

This needs to be taken out
I think they just need to discourage glass cannons. Give every mob some kind of aura of pain, or retaliation or something that just forces people to use more defensive builds.
you can win fotm 79 ….
People unlocked 80 pre patch.not to mention how easy is to say that if you do the same thing in half time you get double reward in full time.
So without guard and wars 2 hours run will be the norm
With 1 hour or less..Its the same of completing a dungeon with 20+ wipes or a perfect run.
And actually as i said the efort/skill required changes a lot.Lets pretend that your skill with warrior get you to a max level of 39 and you fail at 40…
With a ranger you would be locked in 20-30
Except there is no reason to run the same fractal twice. Even if you finish in 2 hours as opposed to 1 hour… which is totally not the case but lets just say it is for the sake of argument, what difference does it make? you can only run it once a day anyway.
You can use anything you want in fractals and still complete it. This game does not require you to bring anyone to anything. You can complete any fractal/dungeon at any difficulty level with any party make-up as long as they know how to play the game.
With that said, the alarming amount of ranged mobs in FotM makes any class with anti-range (guard, ele, mesmer) particularly useful. However they are not by any means a requirement if your party knows the most important rule in all of guildwars: don’t get hit, use your dodge.
To many people are focused on “Well if I can’t do the best (insert role here) than I don’t want to play this class.” There is no award for completing a dungeon/fractal faster than anyone else. To say that there are only two classes in the game, warrior and guard is ridiculous. Could you do it faster with 2 guards, 2 wars, and a mes? sure, does it matter? of course not. No one cares that you can complete your fractal/dungeon 5 minutes before another group.
Player skill can mitigate the ridiculous UNBALANCE of PvE….it can t in no way remove it.
Good players using OP classes can go on higher level fotm in half time with half effort.
Same players won t be able to achive the same results with ANY other class.
as it stands no one can go past 48. My guild has gotten there using pretty much whoever speaks up in guild chat and says “yeah I got the resist lets go” Half the effort maybe… but there is definitely no NEED for one class over another.
Furthermore, I’m pretty convinced Anet never intended us to go past 38 in the current build of the game, and I think we can all agree that you can do 38 with nooooooo problems using any class you want. We might argue about 48, but believe me it’s totally doable, just a little more challenging dependent on which fractals you get.
There is no reward for putting in less effort or finishing a fractal faster. Therefore, there is no need for some classes over another. I guess if you’d rather be optimal than enjoy your class sure go ahead and play those. Me personally, I’d rather play what I enjoy and take an extra 5-10 minutes finishing a fractal.
Yes, they burned my home, screw them.
5 people who know what they’re doing, are on Vent, and have an itchy dodge button. I don’t care what the classes are.

Mortal: Adjective – Subjective to death
Immortal: Adjective – Living forever; never dying or decaying
Sorry that was annoying me
