Im from kodash, riverside does the same to us that vizunah does to you. How many whine threads do you see from kodash players?
@ Stice You never played any other mmorpg pvp at a competitive level I guess? Lets take WoW as an example because its the one that is well known by almost everyone. Enter arena with full PvE gear without resilence and tell me which rank you will get.
@ Shukran, you basicaly say people are forced to play a tanky spec to beat a thief. Isnt that a problem itself? Against alot of non tank/point def specs a thief (we talk about usefull builds) has a i-win button simply because he can almost automaticaly stick to its target and does not really care about stun breakers or condition removers. On my mesmer I feel like kittening myself if I dont go full burst, the only reason why I dont is because I dont want to run into a decent condition engi or necro without some tankyness.

And then someone ran past you with the invis buff.
Mines on a platform
Cant say if I catched everyone but hey who cars
no clue why it shows 2 thread
So I joined the WvW puzzle with my tiny little lvl 15 necro, got ganked 10 times in a row. I said to myself enough is enough, switched to my half exotic/yellow gear engi, put on a tanky build, a rifle and a flamethtrower and camped the dungeons for 2 hours straight. The thing is with all those push backs a engi has you can camp some specific spots and just push any enemy from the platforms that comes along. Works like a charm. Some people even switched servers so they can find out my name and insult me.
…ah what a pleasant time

Thats something that bothers me since release. In most mmorpg or similar games going full glass cannon comes with alot of problems, like something just needs to look at you and you die. In gw2 some classes, especially thief and mesmer can go full glass canon and at the same time are very hard to kill. I think thats not good for the game itself. Some classes have mechanics that gives them enough damage mitigation and damage avoid so they dont have to really bother with thoughness/vitality. Their are two ways to fix this, lower the effectiveness of those mechanics or lower the base thoughness/vitality of those professions. I dont even want to talk about WvW where some classes like rangers can go full power/crit/condition without any real drawback.
My main is a mesmer thats not a QQ thread about specific classes.
Send your pets after their pets, I always do that on my mesmer.
I dont really think its “your” siege weapon if its build, I mean other people build it to. Those silver are less important than the resources spend on it.
The problem is that most here dont see is that its unavoidable damage. Every other glass cannon build/profession can be countered because you see it comming. A thief glass cannon can burst you down from stealth. That its only 3 (or 4) seconds doesnt matter because you can stealth out of LOS which makes the time stealth is up irrelevant.
So remove stealth from thief glass cannon builds, problem solved. Dont whine that you will die all the time without stealth, all glass cannons do that deal with it.
Edit: Maybee i exaggerated here but you get what i mean

The burst of all classes, combined with haste is to strong right now. Skills that can be spammed should be mediocre and not good or very good tools. The whole concept of having a really good skill that can also be spammed is game breaking. Its almost impossible to balance the initiative system. If a skill is not good enough it wont be used at all, if a skill is to good it will be spammed. Theirs no real middle ground.
Are you kitting me? Guardians that want a survivability buff? Is tanking 3 guys at the same time not enough? Seriously, theirs a reason why guardians are considered one of the top tier pvp classes.

Corruption boom is really bad, nothing become a really usefull for its cd.
I corrupt a warrior with 22 stacks of might and it become 1 stack of some useless condition, instead of 22 stacks of bleed.
So you removed 22 stacks of might of a warrior and complain?
I look at it as the opposite. I certainly don’t think it should be possible to win 1 v 2s regularly, but I find its essentially impossible in this game unless you’re one of a select few professions. In previous games, I could at least survive in 1v2s versus equally geared opponents long enough to make some difference in the game, and I could occasionally win one. I think that’s pretty reasonable, and makes for a more interesting game.
You can easily hold out long enough as a guardian, engineer or mesmer versus 3 to make a difference.
Have you ever faced a good engi, I mean one that is actually good?
Eng is effective so long as you don’t bother with kits… makes them kinda shallow but that’s what we’re currently limited to…
Thats why you see 2 or 3 kit engis on good tournament teams.
Pretty much. It is pretty funny how most players fail to dodge my Kill Shot, even when I open with it. I have even used it at point blank range before and people still take it to the face.
I was killed today by a 11k killshot out of nowhere from the enemy zerg in WvW. Theirs nothing that telegraphs that a huge amount of damage is coming. Bam dead. Its basicaly like a sniper rifle in a fps game. Every other insane burst damage in the game is melee and tells you even in a big zerg that its dangerous to not dodge it. Oh and if I look at my necromancer, look through all the skills and look back at a 10k or more killshot at max range I see no, seriously no way you can defend such a skill in its current state.
Football is not really about skill, I win every 1v1, get every ball and outsmart my enemys but in the end its all about making goals. Do you get what I mean?
When I see a Guardian, I think “OH CRAP, HE’S GOING TO KNOCK ME OVER AND TAKE MY LUNCH MONEY.” Their knockdowns with that godkittenhammer are terrifying. They see us and they think “crap… I hope I knock him down before he DS’s and makes this take longer than it has to.”
Yeah I know what you mean, my main is a mesmer and when I run around in WvW I see other classes run away from me just because they see a mesmer. I dont think thats good, just my experience. I recently started to level a necro in PvP, I have very decent low level gear which means my stats are almost at exotic level but I fear everything, Ikitten my pants if I face ANY class 1v1 because he will roflstomp me if he does not suck hard. You might say it has something to do with my lack of traits etc but I was usefull with any other class i played at low level in WvW.
Hmm, sheathe weapon, good idea.
And yes, confusion kills me VERY quickly if i attack through it, so that is not an option…
I suppose i will just have to chalk it up to : You can’t beat a well played mesmer?
As far as I’ve ever heard, the best option is to use high damage per attack abilities while eschewing less efficient ones. The problem is that many classes simply don’t have any big nukes.
What about… a condition removing skill. The thing you use to fight ANY condition using build.
About confusion, you basicaly say condition mesmer should only do minimal damage. Thats what you say if you apply it to the only class in the game that really uses confusion as a weapon.
Look a condition mesmer, like all mesmers is build around giving the enemy multible bad choices. If you would have played gw1 you would know that. A mesmer is designed around making the enemy a nervous wreck. A well played mesmer gives you only one choice to not take damage and thats running away.
Take a condition mesmer for example, he spawns phantasm that apply tons of bleeds and stacks confusions. That is his strategy to fight you. The problem is that the confusion will hurt you if you attack the phantasms and the phantasms will hurt you if you do nothing. Multible bad choices, the class is designed tokitten you off. It is its job.Besides, confusion? Condition removal is easier to come by then confusion, and very few professions can put up confusion. None of them can keep up a meaningful amount of stacks for any decent duration of time.
A condition mesmer can but its like 50% of his damage, asking for a remove of that condition is like asking a warrior to give up his sword.
Wait, so you are saying it is OK to have a class that you’re only PROPER choice when fighting it is to RUN AWAY?
/facepalm
No you can use aoe to kill the phantasm which would use not many skills so confusion wont hurt you alot or you can actually remove the condition? 99% of all people I fight as a mesmer ignore both and die and I dont exaggerate here.
That whole thread is basicaly a big whine. Its about people that dont want to change their playstyle to win against mesmers/guardians. You cant fight both classes the usual way of just running in and spam your burst skills and that something many wont accept.

The kittenomancer, he summons kitties and puppies from the depths of fluffytown and stacks sparkles on you til you die from happiness.
I know Chaos Storm is probably one of the most horrifying AoEs for more folks (ask around) Mesmers are considered very fierce pvp opponents in WvWvW. Not so much solo though.
Are you kidding? A mesmer is a monster “solo”. Its the worst nightmare beside a backtab/bleed thief that you can face 1v1.

Sounds interesting — what conditions does the worm have? Going to check this out tonight, maybe I can finally get a kill in WvW
The worm has no condition, its the zerg that stacks every possible condition on it to kill it and because the worm and the other factions in WvW are enemys you can spread it back to them.
About confusion, you basicaly say condition mesmer should only do minimal damage. Thats what you say if you apply it to the only class in the game that really uses confusion as a weapon.

Ace of Spades thanks for your answer and opinion.
Just among us, I was even a little bit higher rated :pp.It may be because I’m veeeery sleepy right now but at the moment I don’t see why it could be so bad for Guild Wars. I mean if players start to play something so much isn’t that more of a good thing? Doesn’t that mean that something is wanted and a lot of people are craving for it (like me)?
I can’t think of any company that doesn’t want to put something out because they fear everybody is going to want it so bad they are going to go crazy about.
It could mean tears, rage, haters but personally I think that’s pretty much normal in anything that’s popular. There are always going to people who hate for whatever reason.
Well a arena, “arena-ish” game type would need alot of obstacles and ways to get out of los or else its just a huge burst fest.
To be honest alot of the “fixes” were nerfs, especially all the mesmer ones.
Jep I dropped my mesmer mask into the bank and cant use it with my necro cause its soulbound.

The one close to the blue castle
The item you get when you create a character is soulbound, you cant transfer it to a new one afaik.
Mesmer
(15char)
Its basicaly the counter for builds like short bow rangers. No one forces you to use a skill :P
necro needs a decent aoe fear with a short cooldown

- Join WvW
- wait till one enemy team attacks the worm (whatever its name is)
- sneak to it
- target the worm
- hit epidemic
- collect 20 bags or more
Thats how the mesmer is designed, it gives you multible bad choices. Kill the phantasms and get damaged by confusion or dont attack and get damaged by the phantasms.
This reminds me of the GW1 mesmer, there you could attack and get damaged by empathy / backfire or not attack and get damaged by wastrel’s… but getting damaged by confusion in GW2 is a lot less bad than empathy and backfire were in GW1, so I would just ignore it and attack.
I dunno my condition mesmer can constantly keep 5 stacks of confusion on an enemy thats around (out of my head) 1800 damage every time you hit a skill and its possible to get it up to 15 for a short time. The phantasm still hit like a truck so they arent push overs either. As a mesmer its possible to kill low vitality builds with confusion alone, thats 18k damage if you press 10 keys thats ALOT of extra damage on top of phantasms, burns and bleeds.
Blow them up for 3-6 stacks actually, depending on spec and which ability you use. Also then you have to be a condition mesmer which is actually the weaker variant of mesmer.
They arent weeker it just takes longer to kill enemys, on the other side you cant hard counter a condition mesmer as easily as you can a power/phantasm build.

you cant take 12k backstabs with the protection boon unless you arnt wearing any armor. You will take about 9k
ofcourse I can 3orbs + full exotic no problem
WvW lag + mark placement equals frustraition.
Whats the problem, if you have at least a bit of PvP experience it shouldnt be a problem at all.
Usually the first and third placed server work together, because it benefits both the most.
I’d like such an option too (also being able to report exploiting enemies is crucial – lots of people won’t report one of their own), but consider this: once you can see the names of the other players, you can start whispering to them. this makes it even easier for two servers to ally against the third. right now all the other players are equal and anonymous which makes it harder as you have to find a way to communicate and exchange names outside the game (forum or whatever) before being able to chat ingame.
(server alliances would be fine in my opinion, if they were a feature in the game and regulated to only work for the two underdogs until they get to like 50% map control or so)so maybe arenanet just wanted to avoid such trouble and made everybody anonymous?
You cant whisper to players on another WvW team, it says its impossible because you are at war.
A thief hit me with a 12k backstab, I had above 2,6 thoughness and protection up. A def!!! guardian took half my hp with one hit, had the same def stats. Its seriously imbalanced.
Cos…Karma gear is not meant to be the best there is? They do have stat combinations that are impossible to craft though.
Who said it should be the best? Its about having access to a specific stat that alot of builds need. If you level in WvW you have only access to one type of gear, in PvE you get gear for every build.
-no condition gear in WvW for karma or badges, that bothers me the most its basicaly a big fu sign to everyone wanting to play a condition spec in WvW. Especially if you want to level in it.
-condition damage does not hurt structures. Why? because its unrealistic? A asura is as strong as a norn, people vanish bevor your own eyes, people throw fireballs without burning themself, people can take more hits if the lay on the ground. Is that realistic? I think not.
-to many aoe condition removers
Their are two things that really bother me with the necromancer.
1.
No real escape abilites, I play mesmer, thief, engi and necro and the necro has not a single real escape ability its all tank it or die. With every other class I play I can escape a 1v2 or 1v3 easily if needed. The tankiness isnt even really tanky on my other three classes I can hold a point way longer, beta weekend one necro was tanky but what we have now is a joke.
2.
Long cast times, no other class has so akward long cast time ON EVERY SKILL, on most other classes the at least half the skills are near instant. Other classes can spam more powerfull skills instantly, I dont see any reason why we need a long cast time on for example staff, scepter or dagger ofhand skills.
(edited by Mayama.1854)
2v2 or 3v3 would be a zergfest with thieves, mesmers and guardians.
2v2 = Thief / Thief, Mesmer / Thief, Mesmer / Mesmer. (or go home)
3v3 = Thief / Thief / Mesmer, Thief / Mesmer / Mesmer, Thief /Mesmer / Guard, Thief / Guard / Thief, Mesmer / Guard / Mesmer (or go home)
Arena implemented, enjoy.
I’m only SLIGHTLY sarcastic here
Thats exactly what I always think when people want arena matches.
Target limits are horrible when you have a wall of people that cant be walked through to get to the people casting said spells with no method of interruption. Target limits for siege make sense as the damage out put on a single peice is so high it could easily be 10x force multiplier if used correctly (see arrow carts in BW1) Target limits for a game with limited to no AoE CC makes it harder to small organized groups to have a strong impact on the game. Like disrupting supply lines for extended periods of time before getting run over.
I would say removing it for players would help since most AoE has a huge wind up in this game as it is.
In waronline one bright wizard at a chokepoint was enough to stop a zerg, its good that theirs a limit for aoe. Some aoes like meteor shower, epidemic or shatter dont have a target limit anyway.
I guess you never played warhammer online if you think AOE without a target limit is a good thing.
No one shooting siege weapons please.
