Its a nerf for WvW because in tPvP you can always hide around a corner when you have that debuff. In my oppinion a better approach would be to lower the over the top high end power scaling of thieves and rework broken sigils like air and fire because both are the reasons why a thief can crit someone with 2,8k armor for half his hp in WvW.

All classes get blind and evade, this isn’t a buff or a new addition. Other classes also have access to stealth.

Go to the gw2 wiki and count how many blinds or evades other classes have compared to the thief

So, are thieves going to get new buffs that completely lock out the abilities and mechanics of other classes or is it just us that get shafted again because bad players can’t deal with stealth?

That’s the role of the class to reset if anything goes wrong it was build for that because of the initiative system. Most of the thieves will have utilities for resetting the fight (SR,Shadowstep…) and the damage comes from set,gear and traits because usually you’re screwed if you don’t have a way to reset. What good thief doesn’t have something to reset?I can definitely see my self using SB more now since every class might get 6 sec revealed skill but no one better complain about the resetting in those future times.

The problem is that with all those ini regen traits, initiative became almost meaningless. Thieves are meant to reset fights, yes thats true but at its also designed so that you have to deside between spending your initative on aggression or defense. Right now thats totaly screwed because of the over the top initiative regen.

Are people kitten or something ? of course no other zerker should stand up to the thief in 1 v 1 thats how it was meant to be , its working as intended.

Go read the thief’s bio while you are it .

Its just flavor of the month, not intendet. I remember guardians bunker builds unbeatable in 1v1, rangers kings of 1v1. Mesmer that counter everything in 1v1, spirit weapon guardians killing any solo player etc. Its just the usual mmorpg balance patched shifting meta. Oh and in beta bunker necros were able to win versus a small zerg.

A superior 1v1 class is not healthy for the PvP meta, look at WoW’s frost mages and what they did to the game.

It isnt even true that thieves are the superior 1v1 class. All meta builds are build around not dying to thieves. The chance that you can solo anyone as thief is actually pretty low. But it is still cancer for the meta, because thieves basicaly remove a wide range of build options and a meta with very limited build options is not a healthy meta.

Thieves aren’t unstoppable.

Imo the profession simply forces you to be a better player in order to be viable, therefore you’ll find people that actually play thief tend to be stronger players.

Thief players tend to be stronger players? What are you smoking? That class, beside wari, is the most forgiving class in the game. No other zerker build in the game can survive so many major kitten ups. Reset in stealth and survive another kitten load of kitten ups again.

From my humble hobby balance perspective: Shouldnt zerker and bunker builds deal about the same damage to each other? One gives up damage for defense and the other way around. But it feels more like bunker builds dont give up enough damage. Its completly one sided and forces everyone to bunker.

Whats your problem?! Invis and evade are the two defense abilities without a real counter, its good that it finaly goes in a direction where theirs counter play involved playing with and against those types of defense.

I think people are kittened about warriors not because they are strong, its because its so easy and effortless to be good. Most other classes have to work hard and on top of their game to be efficient in pvp/pve.

I mean put an average player on a zerker ele or zerker warrior without knowing much bevorhand about both classes and watch the outcome.

It does not feel right if I have to press tons of buttons, memorize bazillions of cooldowns and switch attunements if a warrior can archive the same thing half afk with 3-5 buttons.

What really kittenes me off personaly is that as a engi/ele main I can make a thief or warrior and feel extremly powerfull in PvP without doing much. It feels so cheap and one sided that some professions can archive the same result with half or even less work.

People don’t understand that mesmer and ele are not supposed to be the best 1v1 class, because they can do many thins that thief doesn’t.

Why should one zerker be better at 1v1 than any other one, its all about personal preferences. From a tPvP point of view I would argue that a thief should actually do less damage than 1v1 zerker builds of other classes because hes is a better roamer and has the best escape.

I personaly think mesmer is still the king of 1v1 because illusions have a almost endless high skill ceiling.

thief is the most tricky and versatile of all the classes, we excel at creating advantages.

Thief is the class with the worst versatility in the game, you roam and do burst damage. Thats it. Creating advantages? We are talking about WvW right? Like any other class can do so much more beside roaming. Compare a thief to a water-bot ele that can literaly keep a small zerg alive by himself. A guardian that spams buffs and heals forever. A mesmer that mass stealth your zerg, ports them and spams null fields for AOE confusion spam. That list could go on and on forever, thieves are only good for roaming and single target burst in WvW and because single target dps is not really important in the grand scale of WvW theirs only roaming.

Run water ele’s in your zerg, we have two water-heal ele’s in our guild zerg and conditions are basicaly none existant.

A good zerg composition is key to victory and you can easily take out a zerg full of selfish 1v1 spec’s twice the size if your team comp is good.

so your strategy to beating someone with perplexity runes is to run a zerg against them?
i don’t see how those runes could possibly be broken.

if you want those runes fixed then lobby to introduce them into pvp, thats were anet makes their decisions to make or break a class.

1v1 Is more or less irrelevant in WvW, all those roaming solo players only give the enemy team an advantage. You need like 5 roaming thieves to scout and the rest should be in groups.

I am including my experience as a Guardian when wondering if Backstab could be more because right now, as a Guardian, I don’t worry when I see a thief go ghost. I’m also not a full tank or glass, just to note. To me, there’s something inherently wrong with that notion. If there’s a zerker D/D thief on me, I should be worried. I think that’s what that particular set up is designed for, single target takeouts. Perhaps I’m wrong in that thinking.

Why should a zerker thief be more dangerous than any other zerker build?

Dont expect to kill anything if you are low level in WvW. Help others, play supportive and apply damage to enemies that focus on your teammates.

Every real lvl 80 character will wipe the floor with you in 1v1.

Like with all squishy classes/specs you need to learn your enemies spells and animations to survive because you have to play reactive when you get preasured. The best way to survive an engagement with a bursty class cannon is to always force the enemy into defense.

I just leveled an ele to 80 in less than a week, mostly playing in WvW.

Im leveling my ele right now and yes I enjoy it but when I see for example warriors having everything from damage over roaming to defense I really cant see the point in having 20 skills and atunment dancing if a warrior can do it better with 3 buttons. :/

Game is balances around sPvP so condi thiefs 1v1 people in WvW is not something arena net cares about. Those thiefs are really useless in coordinated sPvP and people dont like them because you could do so much more with a decent sPvP spec.

Cheese is such a stupid statement, every spec/class has his downside. Im running a fresh air ele in sPvP right now and can literaly 2/3 shot people with it from 900 range. Is it cheese? No because they usually die because they didnt even bother to look behind them and when im out of position I will die in 3 hits too. The only thing balance wise that kittenes me off right now are warriors in WvW :/ tankiness, damage and roaming. All in one spec.

Anet, could you please buff P/P?

The set doesn’t really need much. Full bunker healing powder P/P is absolutely silly strong in sPvP. I’ve now just lost only three fights in the history of playing the build. Blind spam and interrupts are absolutely wild. And on DPS builds, unload’s damage actually isn’t bad; it rivals that of rapid fire from a ranger over a shorter amount of time and can be spammed. Arguably the set’s initiative costs are a little high, but only so due to issues pertaining to D/P and P/D, which are obviously superior and frankly, blatantly overpowered weaponsets. I think toning those sets/builds down would allow for some P/P initiative costs to be changed.

But we’re talking class balance. ANet doesn’t listen to that as the rangers despite winning the CDI have yet to get any kind of significant feedback or adjustments.

Theirs to much reflect in PvP and unload with its obvious sound/animation make it an easy target.

Anet, could you please buff P/P?

Leveling in WvW as ele seems like the most frustraiting thing you can do. Basicaly everything one shots you and you deal zero damage.

I know that you have no chance against lvl80 when you level in WvW but I leveled a mesmer, warrior and necro in WvW and all of them can actually do something beside using siege gear. Elementalist just feels like a joke, zero durability, zero damage.

So I thought lets play some WvW after I didnt touch gw2 for almost a years and it feels like everything went downhill since I left.

Their are still horrible lag spikes to the point where bursty toons can kill you bevor they even appear or you have any chance to react. Actually the burst is absurd now, their are (for example) thieves and rangers that 2 hit people left and right. WTF happened to the game? The straw that broke the camels back was a warrior that easily outregenerated 10 of our guys and hit like a truck and no im not exaggerating. On top of it he was able to escape as easily as a thief with his stupid greatsword mobility when the zerg train arrived…

I mean seriously, balance please? When I left people with super high end game gear hit hard but not anywhere near those numbers that seem common right now. :/
It feels like WoW battleground all over again with legendarys ruining PvP for everyone.

Running a class cannon is not fine in tPvP? What are you talking about? You can turn a 3v3 in 2 seconds into a 3v2 as a thief glass cannon. If you dont do amazing damage after that doesnt matter because you do more than the dead enemy you killed 2 seconds bevor. Glass cannon thieves are very usefull in tPvP.

Honestly I have no interest in playing gw2 right at the moment because of how broken the thief is. Its a class or well… its a concept of a class thats OP or UP but not balanced at all in every mmorpg ever created for a reason.

Its the only calls in the game people have to make specific builds to survive against it.

Its the class with the highest burst AND mobility. You can run away from a mesmer or guardian but you cant from a thief.

Its the only class where defensive stats dont really matter because the escape abilites are to good, even a mesmer can be bursted down and killed if focused but you wont catch a thief.

It doesnt work and it screws up PvP in the long run.

@Mayama, well i guess its how you look at it. But it makes sense to me and alot of people because it has requirements that cause it to be unsuccesful alot of the times. those being Stealthed, which is something that is not always rdy for you and you have to be behind your target. mainly a suprise opener as the name suggests. if the target knows your there or is already attacking you it is very hard to land teh attack from behind.

But the biggest factor would be is that it is a melee attack that puts you right in the fight with high danger(thieves are very squishy and die fast aswell) (more risk more reward)as opposed to other class abilities that are ranged where you are safer.

The problem is that you get around a second lag delay bevor the enemy can react to your backstab because of the way the gw2 server handles stuff. Thats the problem. From a thieves perspective everything looks fine but from the victims perspective the enemy only unstealthes for around one second. Thats the same reason why pistol whip is OP its not because of how it works but because of the server lag that grants the thief one second of hasted pistol whip damage. As long as that lag is not fixed theirs no way it can balanced at all.

As a Mesmer, how do I actually KILL stuff in WvW?

Some Engineers seem to be able to keep me constantly immobilized. You can stealth but they know you are still there and keep throwing crap at you. I don’t fully understand the Eng prof so not sure what they are doing. I swear I’ve been bursted by them for over 15K in a second or two as well.

Backstab should be the most damaging ability in the game but not what it is currently doing.

Why? Any reason beside “i want it that way”? Because of the skill involved using it? Their are elementalist and engi combos for example that do less damage and are way harder to pull of.

Power/phantasm pvp nerf hits condition/shatter too, why?

Whats the reason behind the nerf? To balance power/phantasm glass cannon builds in PvP? The problem is it nerfs shatter and condition builds too. Longer cooldowns on phantasms means less stuff to shatter for shatter builds and less bleeds for condition builds, the staff nerf hits condition builds too.

Why not reduce the base damage or damage scalling of phantasms instead of nerfing the cooldown of those skills? Sorry but this looks like something the devs just made to stop the whining instead of a good idea with alot of thought put into it…. and dont make me start to question the decision from a PvE point of view…

My 100% personal view is that any class that can only work if you build it as a glass cannon is completly broken. I think its healthier for the game if a well balanced spec is the best for most situations.

A necromant communicates with the dead, nothing more. Thats what a necromancer does. Some do revive people or animals but they arent servants they are twisted versions of the original person. Read about it thats actually what a necro does in the mythological/historical sense. Animating the dead as slaves is vodoo or similar stuff but not necromancy.

So what you mean is not “gw2 necro is not a real necro” you mean “gw2 necro is not like the average pop culture necro” and whats wrong with that? Isnt it part of the pop culture to redifine itself over and over again.

I play mesmer and necro and from my experience its very hard to kill a mesmer with a power build you need very good well placements to pull it of and without LOS its almost impossible. If you play a condition necro its just a damage race which the side with less defensive cooldowns will lose.

What are the advantages to thief?

yes, its slightly more complicated than playing a warrior or guardian. if you prefer those more straightforward playstyles, then by all means go and play that class instead.

its strange to assume that there is some inherent deficiency with the Thief class though just because you haven’t figured out how to play it properly yet. trust me when i say it though: there is no deficiency.

The first problem with the torch phantasm is that confusion benifits from condition damage and retaliation from power. The second problem is that one stack of confusion that does not even refresh your own stacks is not worth it.

please clarify all of the details of your dancing dagger hitting for 7.5K.

were you playing WvW? if so, what is the relative gear difference between yourself and your opponents? do you have Orbs of Powers?

basically what i’m saying is Dancing Dagger is NOT actually a high damage skill. if you go and play sPvP you will notice that it does 600-800 damage, not 6000 damage.

Theirs a video floating around of a ranger that kills groups of people with AOE in WvW. Those numbers are totaly possible but you need full exotic berserker/rampager gear for that and it only works against lowbies.

In zerg versus zerg fights feedback is very usefull even if not a single enemy player gets damaged. Think about it this way: every second the enemy zerg does not shot because of feedback your zerg does and applies damage. Its a subtle skill but very powerfull.

From my experience 10 points in illusions are mandatory for a condition build to get master of misdirection. I usually put 20 points into illusions so I get illussionary retribution and blinding befuddlement.

Im from kodash a german server and we dont care which tags the enemy servers have. We actually had an short alliance with seefarers rest [EN] to beat the crap out of elona reach [DE].

No one cares about countries in WvW, its just an excuse for the losing server.
