I’m looking into buying a new PC. I’ve had someone from a store recommending this when I said I wanted to play MMORPGS like Guild Wars 2:

How high could I put the settings and at what FPS with this system? I’d like to play at the highest settings possible but I have no idea if that’s possible with my budget.

I understand that for WvW zergs at the highest settings you need a beast of a PC, but I’d already be happy with 20 FPS as then I can see what I’m doing instead of watching a slide show. xD

I had to translate some terms of the specs to English so I’m not sure if I got it right (like network card/power supply and working memory and whatnot, I don’t know the English terms for those).

Isn’t Mesmer good at everything? It’s light armored, I personally like the light armors best but that’s just me. It also has the best options for a legendary, again in my opinion. Bifrost and Twlight/Sunrise look really nice. I may be biased because my main is an Elementalist (also Asura) and I’m a sucker for magic based classes and staves. xP

Yep extremely easily, I did it. It was my first character I got to 80 (or even below 20 xD) and it’s still my only level 80 character, still using only staff (I tried the other weapons and tried my best to like them, but they’re just not for me and I feel just clumsy and awkward using them).

My elementalist is a 99.99999% staff user as I always play ranged casters (mostly healers, but also mages – or sometimes atleast AoE ranged classes), AoE killing and big heals being my fave. I sometimes try to use either d/d, s/d or s/f but switch back to staff within ten minutes. I especially dislike d/d, if I wanted that playstyle I’d have rolled a thief. Staff just fits my playstyle best, I don’t care if it’s not the popular build or not. I’m rather a happy staff user and not 100% efficient than a sad d/d user and being “OP”.

So, I use my staff for everything; open world PvE, dungeons and WvW. I never tried Fractals or sPvP and to be honest I never understand why people say staff is not viable in PvE. Run among the lines of your AoE circle and place earth 2, water 2, water 4, fire 2 and watch how the mob dies a slow painful death while it’s moving too slow to get out of the AoE circle/and/or to you. I have to admit, I have zero PvP skills so I always run with zergs in WvW and just drop AoE’s from a save distance and watch loot bangs spawn. This is probably also the reason why I like WvW (I dislike PvP in other games), since I can actually kill things here. xD

My build is 0/0/10/30/30, My armor is PVT with the exeption of the legs, trinkets and staff are kinda all over the place as I still need to switch those out (they’re blue and green now) and I aim for a minimum of 500 healing power, but I’d rather have 700+ just because I love seeing my health bar fill back up to full when I dodge or throw a water field. xD I’ll see when I decide on my trinkets.

So yeah, pretty different than the usual Elementalist I guess. XP

Edit: ah yes I agree with the poster above me. I put an example of a rotation I like to use, but it’s just one of the many I use since you have so many skills you can pick and choose the best ones for each fight. This is such a big difference with my (lowbie) necro. I love staff on Necro also (and mainly use this weapon), but it’s a lot more of a fixed rotation I tend to use compared to ele, where I use different rotations depending on the situation.

Race: Charr female (slimmest build, tallest height)
Class: Any that uses shields and/or kits
Item: Any kit bagpack, shield

Any shield or engineer kit bagpack floats on the back of my Charr. You could fit an entire extra shield in the empty space.

Oh gee, I never thought about the soul bound/account bound part. I just looked in my bank and saw that 99,9% of the stuff I have in there is either account bound and/or soul bound, which means a vault would be a bit useless to me. XD Oh well, I’ll go and save some gold for an extra bank then.

Hey, I really need some storage space as I still only have the default amount of bank space. However, I can’t afford to buy any with gold and I’d rather not pay 10 euros for just a little more space.

So, I was wondering if making my own guild and using it’s vault would work. I know that making a guild costs 1 silver, and that buying 1000 influence for the vault is 2 gold. So can I just make my own personal guild, spend 2,01 gold to get a 50 slot vault and be done with it or are there any additional costs?

Edit: ah yeah, seeying as you can’t put account bound/soul bound stuff in there it’ll be mostly useless to me. :C Nevermind!

God yes, I was always the healer in previous MMO’s and usually the healer is the class with the most mana issues. I always had to decide to spend twice as much potions (and thus money) to help fighting in dungeons, or to just stand there and heal just to save mana. :C Annoying as freaking hell. Even more annoying when people wouldn’t bring potions themselves expecting the healer to work their arses off and go through stacks of potions just to keep both their HP and MP bar up.

Oooh. o.o And does that mean my server is doing good or bad? I played games where when a server/nation was doing good they would get buffs, but I also played games where underpopulated and/or losing servers/nations would get a buff.

Hey, this is probably a silly question but I noticed that the amount of HP that my character has in the red circle (in my case 19,446) differs from the amount of HP that the character tab shows (18,345). How is this possible? At this moment I’m only using Signet of Air, which gives me a passive move speed bonus and Aura of Restoration, which heals me every time I cast a skill, as you can see in my boon window.

I’m probably missing something very obvious here. o-o

I’m a biologist and I love plants, so my first character was a Sylvari Mesmer, but I deleted her at level 9 because I got bored of the class. My third character, an Asuran Elementalist ended up as my main and while the Asura is my favourite race, I recently created a new Sylvari character and this race is really growing on me aswell. They have by far the best customisation options and I love their colors and cultural armor choices. Sylvari and Charr are both my second favourite races.

I use female face 9 on my Necromancer, who is flowery/leaf-like. If I ever were to make a second Sylvari, I’d make her tree/bark-like and pick face 10. They are by far my favourite face choices.

You mean those two faces? They were there when I made my first character in November. o.o

I posted before, but she finally reached level 80 and got the armor I want. I might go for the Final Rest, but we’ll see.

You guys haven’t commented on what I said about the Charr and Asuran races. I don’t think anyone can deny that most people really don’t like to play those races. This game just doesn’t have enough cool races. People want to play epic characters, and that means being a race that you think is cool. Look at WoW, a lot cooler selection of races… blood elves, night elves, orcs, dwarves, goblins, etc.

Excuse me? My main is a Asura and my two alts are a Charr and a Sylvari. I’ll probably never make a human or Norn character, because not only are they boring (since, you know, humans..), they also look pretty lame. Like elves are, which are just humans with pointy ears. Drag the ear slider all the way to the right if you want big ears. Do not force your idea of “epic looking” on others please. I think my Asura is absolutely adorable, and my Charr is epic.

And what are blood elves and night elves? A different elf flavours? Laaaame. If you want a Dwarf, play an Asura. That’s basically a tech Dwarf. Not sure what the difference is between Goblins and Orcs, I just know that they are buth ugly and do not fit my idea of “epic” at all. How would people want to play these if you’re saying that people won’t play Charr and Asura?

Go US, you’ll thank yourself for it.

You might not want a Dutch/French/Spanish language server then, but one of the regular ones. o.O People on the English (EU) servers speak English 99% of the time.

It took me around 130 hours to get my main to level 80. I’ve been playing since November (the Lost Shores weekend) and I only hit level 80 last week. This is also the first MMORPG I ever made it to cap, so I’m pretty new at all this end game stuff and collecting final armor sets and whatnot.

A few things:
1. No need to hurry to that plant to gather it; even though one gathers the plant before you, you can still gather it.
2. There is no such thing as kill stealing even when not in a party. If you do enough damage on the mob, you’ll get loot whether it’s “your” mob or not. This loot is yours, other players get their own loot from the same mob.
3. Do whatever the hell you want. Really. Don’t think there is some set path to level, because there isn’t. At all. Stories are fun, but you can level entirely without them if you wanted to, so even they are optional. Everything is optional, and everything (even gathering, crafting, running around and getting to new waypoints and areas) gives exp.

Hey all! I reached level 80 a few days ago. It’s my first level 80, and the first character to have ever made it to level cap in a MMO so I’m new at the whole endgame thing and gearing up.

I bought a cheap exotic/rare mixed set because the stuff she was wearing was still level 60-70ish blues and greens and I figured I could atleast get a decent set to go and run TA with for the Nightmare set, but for my final set I want to do it right.

My traits are 0/10/0/30/30 at the moment, but I might change that to 0/0/10/30/30 or 0/0/20/30/20 later for more survability. My aim is decent DPS, but I don’t want to be a glass cannon. I want to kill things and I want to live, so I guess I’d like to be somewhere in the middle in both damage and survability, as I understand I can’t have both. I’m a staff Elementalist that will mostly do PvE. I want to be able to hold my own in dungeons.

So, for my gear. I was thinking full Soldiers for the armor, Soldiers for the weapon, full Berserker for the trinkets. Now for the stones to put into them, I’m confused. I think the armor I bought already had stones (sigils, runes, whatever they’re called) in them? Can you take them out and put other ones in? Since I wanted +25 thoughness stones in my armor and Beryls in my trinkets. Is this possible?

I chose Gunnar’s Hold when I started the game because my sis told me so (she had friends playing there). I swapped over to Aurora’s Glade because Gunnar’s Hold is a low population server, and I like high population servers. I also heard it had a nice community, and the friends of my sis also went to Aurora’s Glade.

2.) what will it take for the wvw players to get you into wvw?

I like joining WvW when there is a commander online, so I have someone to follow. If I don’t see an commander online I go back to PvE right away.

3.) wvw benefits your dungeon runs, do you not agree that helping us get the buffs you benefit from is the right thing to do?

I didn’t know that.

4.)is it the repair bill that scares you out?(i know pve players with upwards of 200g, so the fact that they’re scared of a 10s repair bill is confusing)

Yes. Definatly. 10 silver is a lot for me, I only have a few gold (as in literally like 4 gold, and it took me ages to make that as I don’t farm).

5.) why would a risen priestess of milandru be impressed with your Sunrise?

I wouldn’t want a legendary to impress anyone, I just want my character to look pretty to be honest. xD

I like it! I got like 5-6 rares and an exotic (my first n-n) from maybe 2 hours of playing. This is way more entertaining than the previous drop rate.

I naturally vote for Elementalist just because my main is one. xD But you should not stick to just 1 or 2 elements when playing Ele, because you’ll be severly gimping yourself since if you pick 2 elements 50% of your skills are not used (in your case, Water, which is great for healing and Earth, which offers protection).

Hey, I’ve been playing around with combo’s because I never understood how they work.

I’m a staff Elementalist, and I learned to do fire2 or 4/water4 or 5/air5 + earth2 to get a combo thingy and I was wondering if there are any more combo’s when using the staff. People mentioned Arcane Wave is also useful for combo’s, but how does that work?

I’m level 69 on my main and have serveral level 1x alts and I have gotten 1 rare, 0 exotics so far. I got a like dozen greens though, so I’m happy. xD

My Sylvari is based on carnivorous plants, which are limey-olivey-yellowish green with red parts. I gave her yellow eyes and a yellow glow because I’d think that would work best for attracting prey. Anyway, as you can see a lot of people use an existing plant as inspiration.

Main: Asura – Female – Elementalist
Alts: Charr – Female – Engineer
Sylvari – Female – Mesmer

I agree with the OP. I will never be able to play a MMO again that has an energy source for skills (mana) again. I was a healer in other MMO’s, and healers always had major mana issues. In the games I played atleast. I despised having to decide to not help fighting in a dungeon because I’d run out of mana.

I’ll also never be able to play a MMO again that has no dodge function and makes you stand still when you cast a skill. I was frustrating as a Mage type of player to not be able to kite decently because you had to stand still every now and then and just stand there having the mobs run at you to tear you apart, while waiting for the skill to go off.

This is probably also going to be the first game where I’ll reach level cap, as the grind to level cap in other MMO’s always made me quit somewhere half way (I can’t believe I managed to get half way in a game called Luna Online, where at one point I got 0.01% per six mobs). Here I’m already level 60 and not once I stared at my exp bar frustrated, in this game I’m always like “oh, guess I leveled again”. I don’t even notice it sometimes.

And I ain’t going to be wading through quest logs, having to look for a NPC for a wuest and having to return to that same NPC every single time just to get your reward.

I don’t have any issues with this at all, because whenever I see an Asura I go “b’aaawwww! o 3o” automaticly anyway, regardless of looks. And I do notice what they wear, but that is probably because my main is a smallest possible size Asura and I tend to pay attention to other Asuras.

I made a white Charr yesterday with white eyes. Before this one I had made 2 Charr, who are both deleted because I got sick of their fur colors. There is no color, besides white, that I thorougly like. I think it’s because the chest and whatnot won’t change to the same color and I hate having a (in my case) red Charr with black spots and the most random light/white/greyish brown belly ever out of nowhere. It’s worst with dark colors, I don’t like black at all for this reason.

I can’t wait for this patch, I’m very curious to what they have done to AoE’s, as my main is a staff Elementalist (who basically breathes AoE’s xD).

My main is an Elementalist called Mini Star, the tiniest Asura I could pick. I dress her very girly in all pink/purple/girly colors and she has ribbons in her hair and a toy princess doll that is as big as her to waddle along.

I named my Sylvari Venus Heliamphora because I referenced her from a Heliamphora, which is a carnivorous plant, one of my favorite plants. And, Venus is obviously from the Venus Flycatcher and it makes a nice surname. I think plant names fit Sylvari very well, considering, they’re, well, plants. Human names are often a reference to being a human too, as New Virtue has pointed out.

All plants have genders for as far as I know. There could possibly be some asexual reproducing female-only plants that I don’t know of.

I tried this puzzle for hours, every day. I have yet to make it past the presents. I do not like the timer at all, not only is it the reason I keep failing, I also do not like to rush things like that at all.

Are you kidding me, the toy golem is the cutest thing ever. Why wouldn’t you want your own Mr. Sparkles? :C Plus we even have an Asuran Wintersday.

The only complaint about Asura armor I have is that my toes clip through the shoes and the headpiece clips through my hair. Don’t all races have the same armor (besides the cultural armor) anyways?

I have to say that I’m probably not used to much, coming from free to play games, but I have never seen a holiday event done as well as this one. It’s my first event, having bought the game when apparantly the Lost Shores event was on, and back then I didn’t realise there was an event going on. I can’t wait for future events if they’re all going to be as awesome as this one.

My only complaint is the jumping puzzle, which is too hard for my taste. I’ve been trying to finish it a few hours each day, I only got almost past the presents once and then the last present blew up under me. I love the puzzle itself, just not the fact that it’s timed.

Gosh, this puzzle is so hard. I’ve been trying to finish it for hours now, I never made it past the presents yet. I like the puzzle, but I really hate the timer.

Obviously my little Mini Star is the cutest.
