Do you have exotic/ascended gear already? If not I’d start working on that. You can get exotic gear from WvW vendors, Karma vendors in Orr, trading post, dungeons, crafting or as loot. You can get ascended necklaces from the laurel merchant, accessories from the laurel merchant or with guild commendations, rings from the laurel merchant or fractals and a backpiece from crafting or the laurel merchant.
the reason why hair disappears is because it’s only big model, if hair is separated in two parts (upper and lower part) then helmets could be possible.
Or just add a default hair to the hat model, less issues with trying to fit all the different kinds of hair under a hat or helmet.
When I started (in November 2012) people were still having some issues with dungeons and wiped pretty regularly. Nowadays they are very easy to do even when you have a few newbies in the group. People have figured out the tactics now instead of just running around like headless chickens. I always PUG and I’m not the best player by far and I barely ever wipe anymore and that’s only when someone doesn’t know what to do but kept quiet and tried to wing it.
So if you’re hesitant to come back because of the dungeon difficulty, I would advice just to try it out for yourself as it’s a very different experience now.
Yeah. going bald when wearing a hat or helmet bothers me to no end. I think they should just add a default hair style under the hats/helms. As it is now, I’m just not wearing any hat/helmet that hides hair at all (with the exception of Asura light T3), which is a shame because some (looking at you top hat) are really cool.
Aww yiiiiisss, I hoped that was the case. Thanks.
I’m not sure what a “Factions or Nightfall” is, but I assume it’s an expansion. There has been rumors there will be an expansion in 2015, so who knows. C:
When it says for example “5% Vitality is converted to Power” what does it mean?
Is 5% of your Vitality taken away and added to Power or is 5% of your Vitality kept as Vitality AND an extra bonus is added to power?
Melee is optimal for dungeons in most cases, Engineer and Elementalist being sort of an exception.
That being said, the only people who care about optimal builds in dungeons are the people who wear full berzerker gear with a “meta build” wanting only other players who wear berzerker gear with a meta build, and they specify this in their LFG’s (“dungeon x px zerk/speed/exp”). So just stay away from those parties and you can play whatever you want. C: I take my staff + scepter/axe and warhorn Necro to a dungeon and hammer/staff Guardian to a dungeon whenever I feel like it and I never get kicked.
I haven’t played Guild Wars 1, so I guess that doesn’t apply to me.
Ikr, I have no idea what he’s talking about. :P
In my opinion Ele for PvE and WvW but probably Mesmer for PvP (although I never tried it on my Mesmer).
This will be an issue for you, even though you can see what they say… they will not see your responses because you are using the German client unless they turn this feature off as well.
My suggestion to you is to use the English client.
This is not an issue only for him but for everyone, even those using the English client. So many times someone asks something and I answer it, only for them not to hear me, thinking I’m ignoring them. :/ This option should be off by default instead of on.
(edited by Melanie.1240)
Coincidentally I did that mission only a few days ago on my Ele. Maybe you’re built too squishy? If you have glassy traits now try swapping to x/x/x/4 or 6/6 and get Evasive Arcana and Elemental Attunement.
6 characters: 5 at level 80 and 1 at level 30.
Map completion: 1
The rest is between 25-50%. I’ll get there some day. xD
I really loved how GW1 forced you to have a two part name. It was as if every person had a first and last name and helped a little to reinforce a unique identity with each toon.
One word names, especially stupid ones you pointed out, feels wrong, like a verb or adjective slapped over someone’s head
I’m glad Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have that rule. I dislike last names myself.
Oh gosh yes please! x.x I don’t know why these were not added to the collectibles tab.
Press Y to go to your friendslist. You’ll see the LFG (looking for group) tab. It might seem a bit empty, but that’s because groups fill up very fast. Make sure you select the dungeon you want to run to see the parties for it (it’s on Open World content by default).
All you need to do for your first dungeon is:
- Understand the difference between story and explorable. Story is the easy version and gives less rewards. Doing a story mode for a dungeon means you can open the instance for explorable mode on that character next times, so I always think it’s handy to have. If you don’t do story mode you can still do explorable mode, just someone who has done story needs to open the dungeon for the rest of the party. Explorable mode has 3 paths (4 paths for Arah). Rule of thumb is that usually P1 (path 1) is the easiest (this goes for most but not all dungeons).
- Be sure to be on the map where the dungeon is (so for Ascelonian Catacombs it’s Plains of Ashford, anywhere), you’ll get a pop-up to get into the dungeon as soon as someone opens it.
- Be sure to say you’re new! People are usually more than happy to explain everything. If you don’t say anything and plan to just bluff through it, people will expect you to know everything and may get annoyed when you make mistakes (since they think you’re just being an idiot rather than being new).
- Have the right level requirement. You can wiki the level requirements or watch out for the mail you get each time when you get to the right level for a certain dungeon. Story mode level requirements is 5 levels lower than the explorable mode level requirement (example: Story level requirement for Ascelonian Catacombs is 30, for explorable mode it’s 35. So don’t join explorable mode as a level 30 because that usually gets you kicked).
You can drag and drop the ring when you on the desired place too in the Hero panel.
Chestpiece: [&AgFiqAAA]
Legpiece: [&AgFoqAAA]
Copy these codes and paste them in the chat screen ingame. You can preview them and test out dyes and whatnot that way.
I usually just go with Gold and Antique Gold.

This site tells you where you can geat each stat combination. Pick a stat combination, pick a way to get it and start working for it. C: Keep in mind that this page only gives you exotic sets. Ascended weapons and armor can only be crafted, amulet can be gotten for laurels (and WvW badges), accesoires for laurels and ecto or guild commendations, rings in Fractals or laurels and the backpiece can be gotten from Fractals, crafting or living world (you can upgrade the karka backpiece you get with festical tokens to Ascended).
thanks <3 it exists any short of gear tier? like.. legendary is just a dream and should i just aim for ascendent? or go straight for exotic?
Legendary (there are only Legendary weapons) has the same stats as Ascended weapons, but a Legendary weapon allows you to select any stat combo you wish any time while if you want to change stats when owning an Ascended item you need to get a new one. That and Legendaries have fancy skins. And require like ten times more grind.
It’s Fine < Masterwork < Rare < Exotic < Ascended = Legendary. Exotics are extremely easy to get while Ascended may require some work I’d get a set of Exotics first since it’ll be a while until you have full Ascendedand Exotics are very easy to get anyway.
Engineer has some great support, but I heard it does so-so damage compared to other classes (it’s an extremely fun class to play though). Mesmer can be supporty-ish too with their portal, quickness buff, stealth and reflects.

It’s a material things when it comes to the blackest black. I think sometimes Midnight Ice is also blacker than Abyss? But I’m pretty sure Celestial is always the whitest white.
That’s the hat of the Cook’s outfit for Sylvari if I remember right.
1. Orbs
2. Whip (like one of the Mesmer Phatasms has)
3. Some kind of knuckle weapon
4. Lance
5. Polearm
You should never sell anything to a merchant, unless it’s junk items (grey name) or when the price on the TP is the same as you’d get at a merchant. Either sell the item directly on the TP or salvage it and sell the materials if you’re not going to use them (but seeing as you want Ascended gear, I’d make sure to keep the materials you need).
I recommend dungeons even though you said you didn’t like them. There are very easy and fast paths (CoF p1, CoE p1, HotW p1, SE p1, AC p1, TA up/up are my favourites to run for some quick gold) and you get both gold directly (1.30+ gold per path), drops and you get tokens you can turn into rares to salavage for ectos to sell.
You can also do world bosses for rares to sell/salvage for ectos.
Rings are not a waste if you don’t do Fractals (much). Earrings however, are a little steep with the ecto they cost. :c
They are squishy so they can be though early on, but once you get the hang of it and get a build going in the later levels they’re very fun and dynamic. They have the most skills (together with Engineer) and is very wanted in dungeons for their damage and utility. I’m not very knowledgeable in WvW but they’re wanted for their water fields, CC and AoE damage as far as I can tell.
I also like how you can sit back and play a traditional caster with staff or jump all over the place and go up close like a magic using thief using double daggers.
I wouldn’t recommend a debit card, credit cards are much safer to use.
This happened a few years ago to an MMO (I can’t remember which one). Their system charged each transaction 1000 times instead of 1. They canceled the charges but anyone who used a debit card ended up paying hundreds of dollars in fees from their bank. Credit card companies don’t care they just remove the charges and that is it.
But not everyone has a credit card.
And yes, you can add your debit card to a Paypal account and directly take money from your bank account whenever you buy gems that way.
Don’t go there. You can’t win. Seriously, don’t even try.
Oh so that’s how GW1 looks…Everyone keeps saying how they like GW1 armor better but…let’s just say I don’t see it. :S
I’d change the password of your e-mail and let your virus scan do a search.
There is a mega server system now. Basically it means all servers are put together in 1 big pool. So switching servers shouldn’t change population. But I’m wondering, in what map were you? Since I’m in EU too and I see people everywhere.
€30,00 not counting the €45,00 I spent on my game copy. C: I mostly do gold to gem conversions. I bought a bank tab and 2 armor sets with it if I remember right.
Because when you buy a piece of gear with that account money you don’t get it for all your characters either?
The easiest classes are Warrior, Guardian, Ranger and Necromancer. But honestly try what you think looks cool and not what seems easy, you’ll learn it sooner or later and if you just pick a class because it’s easy you may get bored of it later. In the end it’s the playstyle what makes a class fun to play, not how long it took you to learn it.
You can get Soldier gear for 45000 karma a piece in Orr (I think at the temple of Grenth), Ascelonian Catacombs, Sorrow’s Embrace and Honor of the Waves dungeon tokens, badges and a little gold in WvW, through crafting or the trading post. Whatever floats your boat, really.
I always use this site to check where you can get which stats.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats
1. I personally did Tailor+Artificing, Huntsman+Leatherworker, Armorsmith+Weaponsmith and Jeweler+Cook because it made sense to me.
2. This site gives you the cheapest way to level a craft: http://www.gw2crafts.net/. But yes, if you wanted to keep up crafting with your level you’re going to have a bad time. XD
3. I can’t comment on that.
4. Almost everything is viable but only a few builds are optimal. In PvE you want to maximize direct damage. Check the profession forums for the “meta” for every class. There is also a meta for WvW and PvP I guess, but I can’t comment on that.
5. 9/10. It’s the best community I’ve ever seen, but I come from F2P MMO’s so I’m not used to much either. XD
5.5. I can’t comment on that.
6. There are both hardcore guilds and casual guilds. I’m in a few casual guilds myself, I rep them every now and then to go do some dungeons and WvW together.
7. Put them in your personal bank (you can find a bank in any racial city and the Vigil Keep) and have your other character pick the items up. The bank is shared across all characters.
(edited by Melanie.1240)
Nope, the max level staves is 80. I’m not sure what level of Artificing you need for masterwork and rare staves, all I know level 400 you can make level 80 exotic staves and at level 500 level 80 ascended staves.
That area is for premium users only. You want the one north of Dwayna’s waypoint, you will see about 50 people standing around it.
No, not premium users. There is no such thing as a premium user. You need a ticket to get in from a past event, which is no longer available (it’s some sort of VIP area but there is nothing exclusive in it).
No, you get random stuff. The higher level the zone is, the better the rewards.
Yep, and story dungeons if you like. Explorable dungeons are doable too but can be a little more tricky as a newbie. You can check out WvW too and follow the commander, this is also a way to get exp. I think you get exp tomes in sPvP now too, but not sure about that. Basically do what you like, you will not miss out on anything.
All zones of the same level range give the same stuff, it’s just a different atmosphere.
Lion’s Arch is not the zone that called Gandarren Fields with the asura gates to the main cities? And why you recommend me to explore this zone (Hearts of the Mists)?
And about crafting, I don’t want to craft right now because I don’t have lot of materials to level it well and fast, and don’t have the gold for it. So I think I will start at higher level.
And Lazuli, which character do you like the most? and why?
Lion’s Arch was the “main city” of the game. You can still see it on the map and go there, but it got destroyed by a villain and everything got evacuated to Gendarran Fields, in the Vigil Keep. So the Vigil Keep is the temporary “main place” now.
Waypointing costs gold, but if you go to Hearts of the Mist you will find a portal that takes you to the Vigil Keep for free. So you save on waypointing costs. C:
Thanks a lot for the input guys, I didn’t know Renewal had a 9 second cooldown. I’ll go for water then as my second sigil. ^^
Just type /invite CHARACTER NAME in the chat and you’ll invite the person to your party. Or, in case of joining an existing part, type /join CHARACTER NAME. Or go to your friend list (press Y) and right click the person’s name.
I’m trying to choose a second sigil for my staff. Which of these would you pick for a staff in a WvW zerg setting: Superior Sigil of Water or Renewal? Price does not matter. I’m leaning to Sigil of Renewal myself.
I’m an European and no it’s not common in real life at all to speak English at a public place where people with different mother tongues are, except when talking to each other (simply because for example Italians don’t speak French and vice versa).
However, at least on the English servers it was always seen as common courtesy to type in English in map chat. No one got angry when there was a guild recruit message in another language every now and then, but generally map chat was always English. I guess people just need to get used to seeing different languages in map chat and maybe not everyone has realized yet that there are people from Spanish, French and German servers grouped with them in the same map and that those people are used to speaking Spanish/French/German in mapchat.
I’m hoping people will get over it, because I prefer a multilingual mapchat over an empty mapchat (even if I can’t read it – I can read a little French and decently German but not Spanish).
What race and/or profession you think will give best story experience.
I can’t answer this without spoiling things. I liked some stories better than others, but they were all fun to me (I haven’t played through any of the human and norn stories).
What is your favorite race and profession.
Asura, because their animations are very well done (I think the other races seem a bit static at times – for example when humanoids hold 2 1 handed weapons or a Charr default stance), they’re tiny, cute, smart and funny.
What race would you like to see more populated.
Charr that are not heavy armored.
Do you think some race is overpopulated?
Humans. By faaaar.
What profession you mostly see and what you rarely see.
In PVE: I see Warriors and Guardians most (I end up with 3 of those in my parties) and Engineers are the rarest (I go “oh cool, an Engi” when I see one in my party and yesterday I was very surprised to see 2, which I wouldn’t even notice with any other class)
Do you think some profession/s are more needed for dungeons and/or other events.
The only class that isn’t really needed in dungeons is the Necro. They have selfish skills and everything they do another class can do too + that other class has useful party skills. The only thing they excel at are conditions and they’re not the best in dungeons. That being said, I have a Necro myself and I think she’s very fun to play in dungeons and does just fine (people don’t care what you run unless you join a “speedclear” group). For events: anything with AoE is great, so that means Mesmer is less effective, but they’re still very nice to have for their utilities (it’s just that you as a mesmer get less loot :P).
I was a little bummed out that the patch probably won’t come today for me, until I figured I’d have one last day to get some last unidentified dyes as drops in the open world. I’ll miss that squee feeling when I see it dropping from a plant or corpse. :c
This game does not have the traditional roles. The mages in this game can wield axes, daggers and greatswords and the soldier classes can wield staves, rifles and bows. Everything works here. Bows are fine, but melee weapons do more DPS usually. I think that’s why everyone says go sword (I don’t know, I don’t have a Ranger myself).
Yes you’re doing fine. The level range is made so you don’t wander to a level 50 area as a level 10, it doesn’t necessarily mean you will actually end up at level 17 if you play in that map.
- destory (quest) trophies
- Sell stuff that has a grey name (this is “junk”, if you go to a Merchant, hit the sell tab there will be a button to sell it all at once)
- Salvage gear and weapon drops or sell it on the TP, whatever floats your boat. It’s possible that the materials you get from salvaging are worth more than the gear piece. If you want to craft, salvage and keep the materials.
- Start crafting whenever you want. I wouldn’t spend money on it as a newbie, just craft with what you find/salvage.
- You get a skill point every time you level up and you get them as drops in the open world (I think from chests/champions, I’m not sure, never paid attention).
