I think they did it right with the Zenith skins. You can open up your achievements tab and withdraw them at will. For the cost of these skins, they too should work in a similar fashion. Once purchased, a player should be able to withdraw any piece at will.
Totally agree with this thread.
Actually, they should behave exactly like the Heritage armour sets.
How do Heritage skins behave? I always thought it was like the Zenith and Radiant/Hellfire stuff.
You can apply the skin for free once. Once you get your product mailed to you it will contain 6 “loose skins” to apply without any charge cost. But yes, if you want to apply the skin after that use to a new piece it will cost you a charge. Charges are really easy to get in PvP or when completing maps, so no need to buy them from the Gem Store.
You may be more interested in outfits, they are “overlays” over your armor but never cost any charges. They go into their own outfit slot and you can switch on and off the outfit whenever you like to see your armor. Downside of outfits is that they’re 1 piece, so no mixing and matching and they only have 4 dye slots for the whole outfit.
You can join any of the non French/Spanish/German European servers unless you want to WvW (server vs. server PvP) together. All European servers can play together, but if you join a German server you get grouped with your fellow German server players as first priority, which may be a hindrance if you don’t speak German (lots of German map chat).
Don’t forget you can make armor look really different when giving it other dyes. Most dyes are cheap on the TP.
Ah yes that was it thanks!
Yea haha I noticed right after posting I randomly wrote Brisbane Wildlands instead of Metrica Province, silly me.
I have one last spot to uncover for this achievement and it’s in the right corner of Metrica Province. I have no idea how to get there though, anyone any ideas?
Edit: I mean Metrica Province, not Brisbane Wildlands. Don’t know how that happened. XD

I’d say Aurora Glade is a good server, but I’m probably biased.
F
1. How do I find quests? I’m currently an Asura lvl 2, and did one of those heart-quest things by destroying deactivated robots. What now? I have one heart-quest more I’m not sure how to do, and one quest to kill a monster. But how do I find out where to go? Is there a quest-list or something?
Run to the next heart, event or personal story star you see on the map.
2. I know those heart-quests are in the nearby area, but how do I know how far I can go?
The heart disappears when you go to far away.
Thanks guys. So far I’m a level 5 Necromancer and doing quite well.
Though one other question. How are the groups in dungeons, and especially at lower levels? I’’m sort of interested in testing a dungeon, as I never did that the last time. I’m also interested in playing the Guardian for PvE, though I’m not a good tank in groups. I prefer being a healer or support. Any advice on what class would be best for me? I -might- play two characters (one PvE, one PvE/dungeons), but can’t say for sure yet. I prefer doing as much as possible with just one.
There are no healers or tanks in PvE dungeons, everyone is DPS and supports their party and themselves with group buffs. Some classes have more group buffs than others (Guardians swim in group buffs, Necro’s have barely any).
- Backwards footprints for Charr
- Floating backpieces for (female) Charr
- Tiny halo on Asura
- Hobosacks on Engineers
- Collectible section for stuff like Geodes, Bandit Crests and Blade Shards
But… when you bought it… you knew that you would have to pay 60€, doesn’t you? So it was worth 60€ for you. Of course its unlucky that this sale started so early after you bought it, but that’s the point of sales, isn’kitten
If you buy a jeans or somthing for 30€ and the next day it’s reduced to 20, you can’t get the 10€ back, thats just logical.
Actually you can. Most stores will return you the €10,- within x days of the sale.
Yes, just use the same program but let him log into his own account.
I wouldn’t go with the easiest class just because they’re easy. Go with the most fun one and you’ll get the hang of it eventually anyway.
Necromancer: High HP, has a second HP bar so very tanky. Specialises in conditions (other games usually call them DoTs) and can summon minions. Very selfish class, making it subpar for hardcore speedrun dungeons where people seek classes that have group support skills. Awesome at everything else though!
Mesmer: Medium HP, has illusions to distract the enemy and to deal damage. Can stealth and teleport other people. You may find them sitting at the end of a hard Jumping Puzzle teleporting others every now and then. Has a good spot in PvE, no idea about WvW or sPvP.
Elementalist: Low HP, controls the elements fire (DPS, might), air (swiftness, utility, vulnerability), water (condition removal and heal) and earth (protection and condition damage). They can be played as the typical Mage archetype with a staff or very fast paced with double daggers or any of the other weapon combo’s. Is well-loved in any game mode.
Just pick which flavor you like best, you will learn the class soon enough.
Let’s just re-examine where I’m coming from:
There are only FIVE races in this game, and I can’t name all 5. I don’t know how many classes there are, and the ones I do know, I don’t know what they do. (What the heck does an Engineer do?)
At character selection it tells you what each race is called. It also tells you which classes you can pick from, I guess you missed the giant icons you can click on to pick a class? You must also have missed the text that appears when clicking one of the icons that tells you what each class does.
There’s no desire to learn about them, because there’s no reason to. All grouping via a dungeon ends up with somebody tanking while I sit in the back hitting 2 and 5. People say that WoW conditioned players to just heal, dps, or tank, how is this any different?
Uhm you must be confusing this with WoW? Nobody is a tank so I have no idea what you’re talking about?
Dailies in this game are: log in, do 3 things, get some karma and gold.
Yes. So you can do things that are actually fun after finishing said dailies.
My guild has about 100 people, and nobody is ever on. And the only reason I’m in it was I had nobody to actually talk to at 80 because there is no grouping in this game so where exactly would I find people? A guild, in my mind, is a group of players who have the same goals in mind (endgame content) and want to work together. Here, it’s just people with a tag. There’s no 10, 15, 25, 40 man content, and everything I can do with my guild I can just do in LFG or solo. What’s the point?
Guild missions for ascended stuff and other stuff and creating a community to play with.
For an mmo, there seems to be very little structure. It’s like, instead of having 10 or 25 maximum players for content, and having lots of it, there’s just random world bosses that any number of people can do, and then 5 man dungeons. So I’m supposed to go to a timer website, then every 15 minutes go to the next world boss with 300 people and get a chest of yellow items that I sell for 20-25s on the trading post and just gather more ascended materials I don’t need and can’t sell?
No. If you don’t like world bosses, don’t do them. Do something you actually enjoy like WvW, sPvP, dungeons, Fractals, making alts, finishing achievements, collections, getting minis and skins, doing guild missions, finishing world completion, get ascended gear, get a legendary…
1) Jumping puzzles, mini dungeons, normal dungeons, fractal dungeons, collections, normal dailies (with crafting dailies do you mean ascended crafting?), achievements, skin collection, mini collection, dye collection, guild missions, doing events in maps like Dry Top or Silver Wastes, doing world bosses, making alts, finishing personal story…
2) Ascended armor weapons (the best gear in the game) can only be crafted (or a VERY rare drop. I’ve never seen a weapon or armor drop but I know someone who had a drop, but it’s a completely random set of stats). Ascended accessoires can be crafted (backpiece), bought with Laurels (amulet, rings, earrings), through guild missions (earrings) or Fractals (rings, back piece).
3) Necro minions are good in open world PvE and I think for WvW roaming builds. The down side of minions is that they don’t dodge, so any place with a lot of mobs/enemy AoE will get them killed fast. Examples of these are dungeons and large scale WvW battles. They’re pretty good for everything else though. I have a Minion Master Necro myself and have tons of fun with it. Just swap builds if you want to do a dungeon.
Easy to learn classes: Guardian, warrior, ranger
Hard to learn classes: Engineer, Elementalist, Mesmer, Theif. I’d say of those Engineer is hardest, they have the hardest rotations and combo’s to master in my opinion.
Most versatile classes: Engineer, Elementalist
What I find most fun personally: Engineer, Elementalist. They can do EVERYTHING. I find myself missing things on other classes. They have more skills than others (others get rougly 10-15 to use at once, Ele and Engi get rougly 25 not counting conjures).
Also, I can say that dodging is the best advice anyone can give you. If everyone’s saying it, it must be true, right?
Yes, you can easily test that out yourself by trying to facetank an elite/champ. You’ll never make that mistake again. :P
For PvE all classes are balanced, but Necro’s are less wanted in speed run dungeons because they are a selfish class. They’re not underpowered or anything, they just don’t have any group buffs, they just buff themselves. If you’re not interested in speed runs (like probably atleast 75% of the player base) you’re fine with Necro. Heck, I take mine into dungeons every now and then and have yet to be kicked and I’ve had her for rougly 2 years now.
just a note: the 75% off is on digital deluxe and digital heroic versions only. No idea if shiny versions @75% off is less than base game regular price :P
The is no basic game anymore. The Heroic edition is the “basic” version now.
I feel you pain man. I didn’t see your thread before I started my own. My only RL issue that kept me from getting the wings was that my internet service provider decided to poop on our house and the internet went out a little over 27 hours. I log in the following night only to see what I’ve missed. Thanks to this, I’ve basically given up on GW2 which is a shame since I’ve been playing GW2 since release and several years worth on GW1.
Doesn’t sound you’re into the game too much anyway if you leave over not being able to buy a cosmetic item that will return later anyway.
24 hour availability screwed ANet as far as I’m concerned, I get paid every two weeks; now I’m much more likely to spend that money I’m getting paid else where next Thursday because ANets not going to have any thing I want to buy.
Hey it’s only money, except some one else is getting it not your company next week.
Here in Sweden we get paid once a month. Does that mean they should only ever do sales once a month (usually around the 25-28th)?
Absolutely not! In no way should ArenaNet cater to their paying customers, that would be foolish!
Okay in that case I don’t want Anet to come out with any gem store items for the next few months because I will get my internship (and thus my salary) in a few months.
They should cater to me right?
I should add that yes, I do think they should have given a heads up beforehand because not everyone pays attention to Reddit or checks the wardrobe for new upcoming skins every now and then.
(edited by Melanie.1240)
That depends on what a fissure of Woe and a Menzis is. :P Buthonestly I think it’s 99% certain it will be a gem store item.
…Wasn’t he always black? o.o
They can’t make translations for every single European language…That’s a LOT of work for a very small playerbase (existing out of people who can’t read/understand English at least a little bit).
YES! I bought them instantly. I even managed to guess the amount of gems they’d cost right and got 500 gems just a few days before, so I saved a crapload of gold too.
So That_Shaman just released a new video of a Balthazar Outfit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVNsTQVcQhk). When it’s coming, is another matter entirely, but I just want to thank Anet for making this possible. I’ve waited so long for this exact Balthazar look (see pics below), and I’ll finally be happy with my warriors look with this. Definitely buying (if it indeed is an outfit and is ending up in the gemstore).
I’m hoping this isn’t the last of the god-themed armors as outfits either (see pic2). I think they’d be amazing and many people will like them.
Anyway, thanks in advance for when it’s out – I can’t wait for it to be in game!
Forget that fire outfit, I want that plantsy person outfit!
Also is the gear you get from the weekly PVP drops any good? Im just 2 more boxes away from the final “Honor of waves honorbox” or something like that.
Yes, it has Soldiers which works nicely for WvW. It also has Magi and Rabid, if that’s your thing.
For dungeons, go to the respective map (for example, for AC go to Plains of Ashford). Then LFG (go to your friends window, the LFG system is there) for either story (easy, less rewards) or explorable (harder, 3 paths to choose from (Arah has 4), more rewards) mode.
For Fractals, there is a portal in Lions Arch. Again, use the LFG system to find a party. If you don’t have any agony resistance only do Fractal levels 1 to 9, not higher.
1. I’m going to assume this is your first MMORPG, since this leveling system is actually (one of) the fastest that there is for the genre. Other games have an exponential leveling curve, this one doesn’t. Each level takes an hour if you complete a map, 10-20 minutes if you level through dungeons since each dungeon gives 70% of a level. Oh and you can actually level through PvP, you get level up tomes as you gain points in the PvP reward tracks so sounds like you didn’t research enough. You can also level through WvW if that’s your thing.
2. Groups events…Are meant for, you know? Groups? If you could solo them it would take away the…Group part from the group event? Because it’s meant for groups?
3. Killed by poison? That’s a simple matter of L2P. Learn to use condi removal.
4. There are rotations, but sounds like you haven’t figured them out yet so you think you spam 1 to win. Or do you know how to stack 25 might? Again. lack of research on your part.
5. Worldbosses being a zerg fest, I can’t disagree with that indeed.
Get an invisible bag and put your gear in there, so you can quickly find it.
By the way, you can use the lowest salvage kits on everything if you wanted to. So you don’t need the rare kit for rare gear or anything. I generally use the second cheapest (basic it’s called? I don’t even know) on whites, blues and greens and the rare one on rare gear, the black lion one for exotic gear.
I’d say ele. Ele can cleanse condi’s upon swapping to water and when getting regeneration. Since swapping to water also gives regeneration, that’s 2 condi’s gone right there. Then you have the dodge in water, which cures a condition. Then 2 water fields giving regeneration, so 2 more condi cleanses. Need some more? Cantrips can give regen when traited too, bam, more condi cleanse. There is even a cantrip that cleanses 3 condis and a heal that cleanses a crapload of condis. When you spammed every single condi cleanse, return to your dodges (which you can trait for refilling faster even), which have a short cooldown or your water attunement and it’s skills, which also have very short cooldowns.
In that example, no, you wouldn’t be able to do it. You can only do that for weapns in your offhand slot. For example, you could have axe/mace in one set, and then switch to sword/mace for your second set without having to add a second mace.
You can also do it for mainhand weapons. For example, swapping from mace/axe to mace/sword.
The beginner zones are ghost-towns at times (unless part of the new daily system) and the game is still mainly populated by American players so right now is the quite time but I find it pretty hard to believe you have yet to see one actual player.
Lol what? You forgot the 20+ European servers?
Elementalist: Uses elements, as good (ranged) AoE damage, AoE CC and AoE heals. Very versatile and mobile. Closest to the Mage archetype.
Mesmer: Uses chaos and arcana(?), makes illusions, can stealth, has unique utility skills (such as a portal that can teleport people). Sort of a mix between rogue/mage?
Necromancer: Typical debuff/DoT class, can use minions, uses undead forces, corruption and whatnot. Has good AoE and good condition damage, but has good power builds too. Selfish and therefore not wanted in dungeons.
Theif: Stealthy, mobile and squishy. Has good single target damage (limited to no AoE? Not sure). Closest to rogue archetype. Can’t say much else, don’t have one.
Engineer: Lots of utility, explosions, turrets and kits like bombs, grenades and flamethrower. Can stealth, condition damage, power damage, AoE heal, you name it, the engi can do it. Has good AoE damage. Does not really have an archetype, but it’s close to a “marksman” class I played in another game.
Ranger: Typical ranger archetype. Bows, has pet companions, nature based. Has good single target damage, okish AoE.
Warrior: Typical warrior archetype. Simple, straight forward, has a lot of HP and can hit hard.
Guardian: Not-so-typical tank archetype. Not much HP but has a lot of heals, condition removal and other skills that make him basically immortal, but can do good DPS too.
Just pick what you like playing best. The only difference with other MMO’s is no healer or tank to choose from.
- I’m 23 as of last Thuesday
- I’m female and will be finishing up my Master of Science, Biology degree in roughly 7 months. My main area of interest is medical biology/developmental biology, especially birth defects highly fascinate me. Though, currently I’m working on synthetic organs.
- I used to be highly fascinated by evolution until I learned everything about it. I think it’s because it seems highly rare, special and unproven for a layman, but it’s actually not.
- My favourite color is burgundy and my favorite music is anything metal.
- I’m Dutch and can speak Dutch and English (but with the worst Dutch accent ever). I used to be relatively fluid in German and French, now I can just get around in German okish.
- I have a twin sister who also players GW2.
- In my spare time I do horseback riding ever since I was 9 and I currently make drawings for other people for money to pay for the horseback riding. I draw mammals, not including humans 99% of the time but I’ve been starting to draw plants now too.
- I also used to make money by making textures for 3D models for a 3D avatar site (IMVU).
- I’ve never left Europe, but have been to France, Germany, England, Belgium, Luxemborg, Greece, Turkey and the Canarian Islands.
- My first MMO was Runescape but since I couldn’t read English at that time I had no clue what to do and never really got anywhere.
- If I could survive on meat only I’d totally do that.

Thanks for the info. I guess i will give dungeons another try as they seem like a good way to get gold. I have yet to do one yet and think they seem like a fun way to make some gold. I just havent had luck finding a group yet it seems the one or two times i tried it was all groups wanting full zerker gear for speedruns or wanting people that knew all the ins and outs of the paths. I haven’t even been able to find a group to complete my story modes yet.
Thanks again for all of the advice.
Have you tried making your own group? Try putting in “everyone welcome” so you get friendly people or fellow newbies, and be sure to note what you want to run(story, or if you want to do an explorable, which path). It usually fills within 5 minutes.
AC p1, 2, 3, SE p1, CoF p1, TA up and fw only take 10-20 minutes each. AC gives 1.5 gold upon completion and the rest gives 1 gold. Being new is not an excuse, I take newbies in my groups all the time. As long as you do not join the speedrun groups you usually won’t get kicked.
If you still don’t want to run dungeons, then yes I guess playing the TP is an option, but prepare to stare at excel sheets a lot (probably more than 10-20 minutes) to really get anywhere.
Oh, and exotic armor is nowhere near 20 gold a piece, more like 1-5 per piece.
Edit: Oh, you can also try farming Silverwastes by the way. I heard the gold gain is good there.
Are Warriors and Guardians going to have access to the Revernant Blind-fold armor? does it take away from that professions “look” if the other classes can access that? Is it a dangerous path to go down towards profession-locked armors?
I don’t see any reason why Warriors can’t have Revenant armor. Warriors can already wear the Guardian’s shoulder pads and light armor classes can already share Necro’s face paint, Ele’s head jewel and Mesmers masks among each other.
Some people feel that the best looking armors for Charrs and Asura are their race-locked cultural armors, because they where made for them – Do you want fewer armors of overall higher quality that fits each race, or do you want everything to be mix and match?
I’d like to see another set of racial armor, but I think if I had to choose between 3 racial sets per race or 15 new armor sets for all races, I’d go for the 15 new sets.
With specializations, we are getting sub classes, and some specializations comes with their own themes. For a Ranger to be a Druid, should there be druid-looking exclusive armor? will it be okay if thiefs and engineers can equip those druid medium armor? should regular rangers have access to it?
I think it would be cool if there was Druid related armor, but it should not be exclusive to Druid. For example, we already have Magitech and the Aetherblade set as Engi-ish armor but all medium classes can wear it, I like that.
Your post implied you hadn’t found the answers yet, sorry in advance if you already know them.
Things that struck me as difficult?
Vault/Bag space. I haven’t completely broken down and ripped out the credit card just yet, but having very limited space and no idea what items are important and what I should get rid of makes me nervous. What if the item I’m deleting is irreplaceable, rare, or uniquely useful, and I just don’t know?
Wiki is your friend.
Major Traits. I have limited funds, and limited skill points. Obviously, not every trait is equal, and groups have expectations that a particular class will trait a certain way. There doesn’t seem to be any logical progression, either by leveling or via the personal story. I can’t afford to experiment and learn, and there is no way of refunding skill points if I change my mind – so I’m basically stuck with Google to figure out what meta is or grinding skill points.
You’ll have plenty of skill points to get all skills, so no worries. You can experiment however you wish.
Crafting is still this large, mysterious, expensive looking thing. I web-searched enough to see it was going to cost me around 150g more than I have and so just kind of ignore it?
To get to level 500 yes, but that’s only for ascended stuff. For exotic stuff you only need to go until 400 and that’s 20-30 gold.
Dyes. Obviously other people have them. On TP I see them for a couple silver, so they have to be coming from somewhere, but I’ve never actually seen more than one, ever?
They used to drop from gathering herbs, but not anymore. They do drop from…I’m not sure. World completion bags? Atleast very rarely from special bags, and you can buy them with Laurels or craft them with cooking.
You get the King Toad weapons from SAB, which is currently closed. So no, at the moment it’s impossible to get them. Maybe you have another chance in the future.
- Utilities under water. I was probably 3 characters in before I realised that was a thing.
- A second weapon under water. I was like 6 characters in before I realised that was a thing. In my defense, my first character to 80 was an Ele.
- Combo fields and finishers. Only after thoroughly wiki-ing I found it how they worked.
- Aquabreathers have rune slots.
- The option that shows a colored line around each armor piece depicting the rarity. I only found that out a few months ago and I have been playing since 2012. :P
You guys may want to mention which region you play. EU players cannot play with US players ans vice versa.
A craft from 0-400 is 7 levels, roughly. A craft from 0-500 is 10 levels.
It’s more of an opinion that a general consensus everyone does. Lower level materials are much more valuable than high level materials, because they are farmed less (because you spend most time farming at level 80). Following that logic, you should open bags as you get them. However, other people prefer getting more high level rares and exotics from the bags. These don’t drop when you’re a low level, so people who are looking to get more rares and exotics rather than lower level valuable materials opt to wait with opening their bags until they’re level 80.
I’d say if you’re interested in crafting I’d open the bags as you go because you’re going to need the materials and you’ll be drowning in the high level materials (most of them anyway) at high level, while you may hit a wall at the mid-low levels.
So if i’m level 30 and go there and i’ll go there and become 15 and then level up to 16 at that place, my char will be 31 by default or i’m wrong? Sorry if i wrote something stupid i’m only level 3 at the moment.
No. You’re level 30 and you go to a level 15 area. You get downscaled to 15 but next to that level your real level shows (only visible for you, not for others. oOthers see you’re being level 15). Once you level up you become level 31, and you’re still downscaled to level 15.
Looks like you have a bit of lack of communication with your friends.
When they are too spread across the world you need to get all the info before doing anything. Also that issue only happens if players are in NA and EU severs, if both are in the same area doesn’t matter witch server you pick, unless you plan to do WvW.
Among all that, why you are the one that need to keep transferring? Ask your friend to transfer to your server.
The game has been out for 3 years, my friends are already playing the game and have already picked servers. How am I supposed to communicate anything, when it’s already a 50% chance they’ll be on EU or US?
My point is I can’t play with my friends and I won’t be able to unless one of us coughs up $30. This to me just doesn’t make any sense.
What is the excuse for not having a guest feature between EU and US?
It’s a game that encourages teamwork and playing together, having friends and having community. It makes no sense that they’d make it this tough to be able to go around and play with all of your friends.
My brother proposed I just buy another copy of the game for $40 and just have one account for EU and another for US… in the long term it’s cheaper. What a joke..
It’s simple. Sit together with your friends and brother and all pick a server (the same server or at the very least the same region). Problem solved.
I noticed that too, but I don’t mind it. I’ve been dealing with my staff clipping through my Asuras head for 3 years, so I don’t mind some more stuff clipping through her head if it means she can wear a female outfit.
The flap they added you mean (I have a female Charr but she wears the male set)? Yes, this is probably the best outfit in the game so far for Charr! No clipping, no floaty skirts, it’s perfect.
Edit: My mistake. Female Charr wears the female version.
(edited by Melanie.1240)
I fear Elementalist getting a lame/stupid specialisation.
Warrior is popular yes, but that does not make them unwanted. They are very much wanted in PvE (I have no idea for WvW and PvP, I don’t really do those). They are easy, straight forward and forgiving. You’ll see a lot of PuGs asking for Warriors (or Guardians) because of the heavy armor and easy to execute high DPS.
Elementalist is also very wanted in PvE and honestly I’ve seen them increasing in number more and more due to the fact that they’re at the moment probably the highest DPS class for dungeons and the Ice Bow ability. For the rest they’re the complete opposite of Warriors: Unforgiving, squishy and a lot of skillls to juggle, plus you have a lot of combofields you can blast yourself while Warrior is usually depended on others for creating fields (as far as I know Warrior only has a fire field on longbow, but I’m only like 50 hours in on Warrior so I may be overlooking something).
Charr tails still clip through almost all armor that’s not Charr racial. Shoulders are also borderline absurd in size, and I guess some helms are bad (I usually hide helms).
Pawprints are still backwards when walking around on all fours, too.
But don’t let that get you down. Charr and charr culture are terrific.
Charr tails even clip through armor that is racial (T3 Light).
