So… unique area names were “too confusing for players”. Where have I heard that before? =D

I thought it had no unique names because Silverwastes is basically a warzone and no one had bothered to give it unique names yet.

I too very much like the suggestion of “fractured Mamnoon” – at least it kind of aknowledges GW1 and its lagoon ever existed…

I personally think that the clouds have a different meaning.

According to GW1 lore, Glint was once known as Glaust, when it was the champion of Kralkatorrik. The forgotten (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forgotten) discovered a spell to free her from Kralkatorrik’s influence, this was done in what is now known as the “Altar of Glaust” in Arah.

According to the wiki “When the ritual is cast, beams of light break through the unnatural clouds above and through the circular architecture surrounding the altar”… and that’s basically what we saw in the pale tree vision, beams of light breaking trough the clouds… maybe there’s a similar altar nearby and that’s where the clouds come from..

But who would we be trying to “convert”? Glint’s child? Wouldn’t this child already be friendly to us by default?

Or The Shadow of the Dragon?

Or Mordremoth itself?

~Snip~

The reason for change would no doubt be mechanics and design of the zone. Or general lack of gw1 knowledge. Afaik, ANet has few folks who were around for gw1 anymore, let alone Prophecies.

The only problem with that statement is that there are enough people still around that are still left from original campaign, and that would include Colin Johannson, Eric Flannum(asfaik), Isiah Cartwright(even though in 1 he was the skill master), and a few others. I like to think it’s more that they’ve gone into greater detail into the zones, i.e., what was one zone in Prophecies is now 2 or 3 zones in GW2. Or you could be correct and they just blew the design…or maybe it falls somewhere else on the map they’ve decided to ignore and leave out.

It was on the unexplored map. They knew it was there. It’s just “minor”, I know – but GW2 is full of these little “insults” to lore that altogether irk me to no end.

You know, I would have been cool with GW2 if it wasn’t called GW2 and pretended to be a sequel to GW. They should have given it its own lore, world, and name – instead of trying to shoehorn in references to the original. It feels forced. Almost none of the GW1 devs worked on GW2, and it’s blatantly obvious the fans know the lore better than they do.

That said, I hope that one day, a spiritual successor will emerge.

The reason why this sounds so final is due to several facts but mostly it’s due to an announcement today of a game that’s coming to the west that has every single thing I’ve asked for in this title over the past 2+ years. Housing, mounts, mounted combat, farming, fishing, advanced crafting, hunting and (even though I never asked for this but expected this game to have this kind of focus) best of all NO INSTANCES of any kind.

Now I’m not naming any names here but I’ve gotta say I’m highly impressed with this other title. Sure there might be a gear treadmill and open PVP but I’m willing to trade that for all of the other things that I’ve been waiting for in an MMO title.

Oh please, please please – PM me the name of this new title.

Mental Paradox.3845

I’ve been fooling myself for two years now; clinging to hope and avoiding how I really felt. But those feelings have fully coalesced, like a great storm that finally let it pour, and the truth is cold and apparent now. This is not the series I loved. This is not the sequel I wanted.

At some point, that sequel was being made. Then, piece by piece, the game was changed to suit a different audience. All of the complex mechanics of GW1 were abandoned for simplistic, homogenized ones. Class specialization and deck-building style, synergy-focused skill bars replaced with classes that all fill all roles and skills built into your weapon. Intelligent mobs with patrol routes, organized groups, with player skills and aggro and priority mechanics replaced with solitary enemies with no skills and the AI of rocks. Prestige weapon and armor sets that required work replaced with heavy, heavy gem store focus. Somewhere along the line, the decision was made to cater to the lowest-common-denominator, with a business model to make any freemium game proud.

I can’t do it anymore, Anet. I’ve been with this series since GW1 launch. The Guild Wars I loved is gone. I’ve tried to care about GW2, tried for so long, but I just can’t. My interest and my dedication have evaporated. You lost me.

I’ll still be logging in to unlock episodes. But I don’t think I’ll be playing anymore. I don’t enjoy it anymore. Peace.

OP: Thank you for making the thread I didn’t have the courage to make myself.

This. But I still keep playing, because somewhere I still want to keep exploring more of Tyria, but Anet don’t care about the original lore, or their world. Look how they butchered Tyria.

I still don’t know what this so-called dark secret of Caithe is.

Killing the centaurs can’t be it. I don’t even consider that an act of “evil”. True, they were disrespectful, impatient and rude, but the centaurs started with the use of physical force.

Imagine someone you love dearly is being seperated from you, and it’s obvious a tribe of strangers is going to murder her/him. Would you sit by and let it happen?
No, that can’t be it. Also it wouldn’t make any sense. The Nightmare Court would be proud if they knew, Scarlet supposedly said. But considering it involved Faolain, they would already know. Also, Ceara wasn’t there.

I assume this secret will be revealed in the next LS chapter… or next season…

Yesterday I joined a ‘guide’ along with a bunch of others to do the jumping puzzle in the Silverwastes. I completed it, got the keys and collected the dowsing rod. I saw it being added to my inventory. A little bit later I went to the Skritt at the boat, but suddenly I noticed it was gone! Not anywhere to be found in my inventory. It’s not a crafting material so I couldn’t have deposited it, and I assume it can’t be sold on the TP so I did not accidentally sell it.

Now, because the game assumes I’ve already done the whole JP, I can’t get a new rod anymore…

What happened to the Mamnoon lagoon?

in Lore

Mental Paradox.3845

People who played Guild Wars will remember the Mamnoon lagoon. A beautiful, secluded little zone, with a lagoon in the middle and lush jungle surrounding it. It was still on the map, before the “far Silverwastes” became explorable, and I was quite disappointed to find no trace of the lagoon anywhere.

Now, I understand the Maguuma dried up. But then, there should be a dried-out lagoon, and maybe a POI of “dried-up lagoon”. Such a wasted opportunity. It seems to me the lagoon has been completely retconned out of lore. The terrain doesn’t even vaguely resemble the way it used to look – there’s no way a lagoon could have been there only 250 years earlier… not with those massive cliffs and elevation differences.

So, what happened? How did the terrain (relief, not vegetation) change so much? Where do those cliffs come from? The Maguuma used to be quite flat in that area. Did Primordus cause seismic activity in that area?

Such was a common thought after E4 came out. However, we see mursaat structures in GW1 and they be not gold.

Who’s to say they don’t have more than one architectural style/ material? After all, there’s a lot of variety in what humans have made in Tyria.

Maybe a Mursaat residential area would be very, very different in style from a defensive installation like the Onyx Gate.

Humanity has multiple cultures and ethnicity. There is no reason to belief such is true for mursaat – or really, any other race beyond centaur and tengu.

There is no reason to BELIEVE this isn’t true for any other race beyond centaur and tengu.

Great atmosphere? Lol.

If you want lots of jumping puzzles, go play a jumping game- there are thousands of them already out there.

I was hoping for a continuation of the first part, instead it’s just a wasted space and a JP that will be dead in a few weeks if not less.

So they have limited development time and resources, but somehow they manage to dedicate 50% of this to emulating Super Mario. Very sad, all this effort could be spent expanding the zone above ground, or god forbid adding a new zone.

Mental Paradox.3845

Like many, I appreciate the addition of Dry Top and especially Silverwastes. SW is a warzone, and it works. But I would like to appeal to the devs to consider adding another type of zone: unexplored wilderness.

See, an empty map (not many events, low player cap) isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Remember those “empty” zones in GW1, like Dry Top, The Falls and Mamnoon Lagoon? Those zones had almost no quests or activities in them, but their emptiness achieved the intended result: to convey a sense of unexplored wilderness. I very fondly remember venturing from Ventari’s Refuge, through the Reed Bog, into the far northwestern reaches of The Falls. There was little point, gameplay wise, but it was SO much fun. I felt like a true explorer. The hidden temples, the beautiful waterfall… So cool.

No matter how hard I try, no zone in GW2 gives me the feeling I’m far from civilization, as there are players/events/waypoints everywhere. I wish there were some larger, secluded zones at the far borders of the map, beautifully designed for those players who have the patience to seek out such places. Oh, and not too many waypoints in those maps please. Only one, at the zone entrance.

It’s because no matter where you go, somebody was there ahead of you and installed at least one waypoint.

Yes, that’s my point. Even the supposedly “abandoned for centuries” Dry Top feels pretty busy.

I would really appreciate some beautifully crafted map (maybe with an artificially low player cap), with none or only one waypoint, full of little gems and secrets for people to discover. Lore-hounds love that stuff.

Living World to Elona/Cantha?

I wonder, how will the plot for Cantha work?

I mean, it is implied the Empire is quite xenophobic towards foreigners, and especially non-humans. 80% of players (give or take) are non-human. I assume we won’t be friendly with the empire, then? Cantha is populated entirely by humans (maybe small bits of resistance here and there), it would look weird if our non-human chars were running around everywhere. What are Charr doing in Cantha anyway???

I’m afraid the other races going to these continents will ruin the “feel” these continents are supposed to have.

Negotiate with the legions to build settlements outside of Ebonhawke for the growing civilian populace in what remains of Ascalon. In the long-term (we’re talking decades), I would be willing to fight a reclamation war to regain all of Ascalon. Until then, we must be wary of our diplomatic position with the Charr, and continue to label the Seperatists as enemies of the state.

Yes… no conflicts at all.

Emphasis on the LONG-TERM. For now, we’re friends. Also, you’re speaking from the position of Asura, I assume? Why would they care? If anything, I see the Asura as war profiteers. They’d just aid whatever race pays them most. Maybe even help BOTH races for maximum profit. Or do you think they set up that gate network for humanitarian purposes…?

I might also mention that less than a century ago, the Charr STILL had plans to invade Lion’s Arch/Kryta from the sea. Sooner or later, the Charr will continue their conquest of Tyria, and no one will be safe/free. Not even the Asura…

Marriage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mental Paradox.3845

Mental Paradox.3845

Dude, this is the game that renamed Superior Rune Of The Pirate to Superior Rune Of The Privateer because Pirate seemed inappropriate. It’s a very youth-friendly game, don’t get your hopes up for marriage being added. Also, try not to be such a jacka?? when people disagree with your suggestions. Just because they’re rude doesn’t mean you have to be too.

I don’t know what do you mean. I’m only trying to explain how this works as most of people here don’t even seem to bother reading my post. if that’s rude then I’m okay with it.
How is marriage something that would ruin this “youth-friendly” game? There are already couples in the story, I don’t see people freaking out over it. Same goes for in-game couples. I don’t see how some benefits and titles are going to turn this upside down.

Why do people want “marriage” to have in-game benefits?

I think the same reason why they want marriage at all: recognition. Being lvl 80 is better than being upscaled. Having 10k AP is better than having 1k AP. Being married in the game is better than being single in the game (even if you’re single IRL).

But without any benefits, if it’s only an icon in the hero’s panel with a name no one else can see, marriage will have little point. Marriage should have in-game benefits so that the married status gives you more recognition.

So now players want in-game mechanical benefits, titles and a “cutscene” that shows the ceremony? That’s how they want to be recognized as married?

Back in the old days of MMORPGs we used to have marriages way more often. Gathering 100+ players at the same place to watch the marriage and say their wishes to the happy couple was all the recognition we ever wanted. Often times I had to contact a GM to arrange the space (delete NPCs at the temple) and to make server-wide announcements so the server community could attend the ceremony (including members from enemy guilds :X) those were fun times

Marriage was an excellent way to gather the community together for a big event, not a way to double click an in-game to get a title and some random benefits. I guess players these days want a material reward out of everything

That sounds nice. As for the material rewards, isn’t it normal for both partners to get stuff like rings, wedding outfits etc.? Do you really find it to be that terrible and materialistic?

Not getting them for free. A wedding dress / wedding ring is an excellent opportunity to add something new to craft/get in the game. Something that players would have to acquire, for example in a game like Skyrim you have to get an amulet to get married.

What I’m saying is that marriage shouldn’t be just an on/off switch to get extra in-game mechanical rewards. It’s an amazing opportunity for a big community event, for a guild/community to get together and of course role playing. It’s also an excellent opportunity to add new things to craft, or find. I don’t want them to put all those things just on the gem store it would just be a waste imo.

Otherwise, after the release of this feature, everyone will just be married, title will offer no meaning or recognition since everyone will have it. Adding extra mechanical benefits makes it power creep, I can already see the LFG message: “LFG only married people!” :P

Do us both a favour and actually read my first post. Read it.

Maybe we should also have a “hot coffee” style minigame.

And ofc allow interracial and homosexual marriages, because you know, 2014.

I dread to ask, but… what are you counting as “PC/SJW stuff”?

Including women? Having a gay romance?

Women? No. The other stuff distracts the writers from what they should really be focusing on.

Because… it’s…. impossible to write a lore-rich, complex story that’s also inclusive of a mature gay relationship?

Episode 8 is the last… Then they need another 2 month break… so yeah, disappointing.

Any citation for this? Given the full Carapace armor set is due to be unlocked during the remainder of the season, there may be 4 (or more) episodes remaining.

A potential timeline could have Ep 7 release on the 2nd, then Wintersday on the 16th, and then the remaining 3 episodes releasing in the new year (starting Jan 13th or 27th).

Common sense… after 4 episodes they need a “midseason” break, stands to reason it means the season is halfway.

Also, what the dude above me said.
