Trades between GW1 and GW2

Mental Paradox.3845

I don’t see why not.

Technically speaking, there is no cross-game trading. It’s a player/player agreement, and that’s a part of our private life that’s none of Anet’s business.

Instead of a trade, look at it this way:

GW1 player (A) gives other GW1 player (B) stuff for free = not illegal.
GW2 player (B) now gives other GW2 player (A) stuff for free = also not illegal.
Trade complete. There was no trade. Just two people giving items for free.

And regardless of whether it’s legal or not, if you don’t advertise it, no one will ever find out.

In addition to that, they don’t recognise a sylvari but Aife travelled to the Maguuma Wastes before GW2 launched, did they not see her when she was there?

Where was this mentioned? I don’t recall it.

The episode is called Seeds of Truth – maybe the Maguuma Centaur tribe are lying to protect a secret.

I figured the name pointed to us learning a truth of Caithe’s past. Or rather, her intentions with the egg.

I just hope E7 doesn’t end up being a full filler episode like E6.

Sadly, if we go by the other trailers, I believe that is all we will get.

The other trailers always showed a bit of every part of the Episode. Be it enemies, locations, mechanics, etc…

This trailer however was mostly revolving around this flashback .

I don`t know, after the last episode I feel like we will only go to the pale tree and have a little trip to the past in yet another vision (something I start to get tired of somehow. That would be the fourth this season. I think this particular story devise has run it`s course).

I expect a longer flashback to understand Caithe and Faolain and then we get the next cliffhanger back in the silverwastes, as we try to go after her and the Egg.
This episode will mostly focus on this subplot, getting us near to nowhere in the mainplot, other than the fact that we might know where Caithe is heading.
However I do not expect to get her.

Overall it seems like we end this season with nothing more than the silverwastes and the attack on the hinted big boss there.
How many episodes left again?

Episode 8 is the last… Then they need another 2 month break… so yeah, disappointing.

Real life lore far more interesting.

Dunno man, I find the lack of magic in the real world quite disappointing. I’m a transhumanist in real life, if I lived in Tyria, the pursuit of immortality would be my goal. And because of magic, it would be (more easily) attainable.

Mental Paradox.3845

On the very corner of the visible area of the globe, you can see the shape of Frozen Gulley – the map projection on the “world map” just makes the objects near the poles appear far larger than they are, just as is with any map of a round object spread flat in a rectangle. You can see the land and water you marked on the globe further up on the “world map”, the northern sea of the world map texture just so happens to be on the southern edge, my guess is that it’s to make the texture continuous easier, like they did with the floor in the Priory library. But, as the edges of the “world map” texture are never used in the game as they are, they can’t be considered canon, which means the globe draws the northern shore correctly or at least is the most likely to hold true.

I think I get what you mean now. Thanks for explaining.

Mental Paradox.3845

A much more interesting question is “where is Drakkar now”?

If Drakkar Lake got swallowed by the Frostgorge Sound, it probably thawed out. Did it wake up? Considering Drakkar appears to be a marine creature, and not a winged dragon; I would expect him to be Jormag’s champion guarding the Frostgorge. While the claw(s) bully the people that fled south.

You are not referring to a map. You are referring to a map texture. It’s never once used ingame in a way that would portray land at the north pole – as I stated in the post just above you, the globes in Priory library show that the continent doesn’t reach the north pole, the part that looks like the south pole on the texture is the northern edge of the continent.

“You are referring to a map texture. It’s never once used ingame in a way that would portray land at the north pole”

What does that even mean? All that does is prove my point… there is no north pole, because it’s not a bloody sphere.

“the continent doesn’t reach the north pole, the part that looks like the south pole on the texture is the northern edge of the continent.”

Which is impossible in case of a sphere, so thanks for once again proving my point.

I feel like we as players could be the only ones who don’t know the shape of the world. Most likely not toroidal though, as at SOME point you’d be able to see the planet stretch upward onto the horizon. Not to mention see a landscape in great detail when looking through a telescope (like the one in Orr). Unless the Tyria we know is only a REMARKABLY small spot on the outer edge of the planet.

Also, in GW1 Cantha, there was an outpost with intricately designed stellar maps, and an “astrolarium” in Istan. Between all these people obsessing over stars, I have a hard time thinking that someone hasn’t come up with a general shape of the planet.

Humans have been obsessing about the stars for milennia, yet the true shape of the world wasn’t accepted fact until a few centuries ago. It seems obvious to us now… in hindsight. People back then generally didn’t think the way we do.

Tyria is not a globe. It’s a Torus. A donut.

There’s absolutely no evidence to support that >.> (in fact most evidence points to the contrary, it would be a bit weird if a planet that’s littered with observatories had no clue that it was doughnut shaped). I’m going to assume that you’re saying that because the texture is a square… It’s a lot easier to make a square texture than one that will actually fit around a globe. Of course they could do it, but, as the giant map sitting right before me suggests, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a square map; square maps are usually a little bit easier for people to comprehend.

Do you even science?

Look at Earth’s map. Walk north of the north pole and you won’t magically appear on Antartica. The map of Tyria dictates a Torus shaped world.

Breaking down the Tengu wall. I find it preposterous how the Tengu just “claimed” such a large part of Kryta for themselves – without negotiations or anything, and have the NERVE to kill any Krytans who wish to travel past the wall. I still consider this “Dominion of Winds” a part of Kryta, a part we’ve lost due to lax policies and a weak government. Under the NKG, this too will change. This time, the ultimatum is as follows: allow Krytans free passage past the wall, and negotiate a deal with the NKG for permanent settlement. We’re not monsters, we do not wish to force the Tengu to leave or go extinct. But we will not tolerate occupation of any kind.

Regain ownership/stewardship of Orr. The Pact is currently cleaning up the remnants of the Risen, but no one currently “owns” Orr. There should be a world summit, where we should argue Orr is humanity’s Holy Land, and that we deserve to be ones to rebuild it. Once it’s safe enough, we could have regular pilgrimages to Orr, starting from our reclaimed capital of Lion’s Arch.

Negotiate with the legions to build settlements outside of Ebonhawke for the growing civilian populace in what remains of Ascalon. In the long-term (we’re talking decades), I would be willing to fight a reclamation war to regain all of Ascalon. Until then, we must be wary of our diplomatic position with the Charr, and continue to label the Seperatists as enemies of the state.

The orders: I’m not sure how I feel about paramilitary forces on our land. Especially the Order of Whispers could become a serious problem, as they have shown to have affinity for the queen.

Borders: I dream of a united humanity. Kryta would extend from halfway the Caledon forest, Sanctum Cay in the West, to the northern Harathi Hinterlands in the north, to Bloodtide Coast in the south.

Exploration: The invention of fast(er) moving aereal transportation will allow for an era of unprecedented exploration of the world. I propose an expedition to re-establish contact with the Empire of Cantha – a nation ruled entirely by humans. They might have sympathy for our cause and offer support. Also I’d send scouting missions to Elona, to see if any non-undead humans are still holding out against Joko. If so, we are morally obliged to lend them our support. Charting the world would be another great Human accomplishment, as well as give us the opportunity to claim unclaimed land.

We, people of Humanity, will let Tyria know that we refuse to disappear gently into the night! We will rise up again, like the great Canthan phoenix, and defend our heritage with courage and limitless conviction.

Kryta prevails!

Mental Paradox.3845

Technology: Fueled by a will to expand and grow, the government starts projects to motivate the support the best engineers and inventors in Kryta. This leads to the invention of the first non-balloon flying machine: the aerocraft. Engineers study and master Asuran and Charr technologies through the Pact (where they have access to plenty of these machines and devices), and incorporate these technologies in our own armies. But the focus is mostly on new inventions – to prove the other races that human ingenuity is still alive, and that we will prevail.

With this newfound power, and conviction in the hearts of the people (centuries of war, and the murder of their beloved queen) – Kryta leads a crusade north of the Harathi Hinterlands, and exterminates the centaurs completely (I speculate the current centaur homelands are in the southern Verdant Cascades), and without mercy. This success cements the NKG’s position as leaders of Kryta, and their popularity soars.

The reclamation of Lion’s Arch. You have no idea how much the loss of Lion’s Arch still hurts me, and by extension the NKG. The leader experienced Lion’s Arch as it was before the Great Tsunami, and its destruction and occupation by pirates. He hates the whole Marriner family fiercely, and wishes Lion’s Arch returned to Kryta, and the Lionguard back under its control. Acquiring Lion’s Arch would strengthen the nation greatly, and give it the most powerful navy of Tyria. Also, as it is 1327AE, the timing is perfect. Lion’s Arch is severely weakened by Scarlet’s assault. Beade/Edair tried to reclaim it before, but I believe they had the wrong approach. They demanded non-humans to leave, but such a policy isn’t needed. LA was a trading hub where many nations and people met before the Flood, and it will stay that way. This is what always made LA special. But their final loyalty must be to Kryta. How will we reclaim it? We march to their gates, and give them an ultimatum. The Captain’s Council is to be disbanded immediately, and the Lionguard is to swear fealty to Kryta. Failure to comply will result in invasion. We already know they will decline. Unlike Edair, I realize it’d be stupid to try and take on their navy, so we attack from the only angle they do NOT have covered – the air! We bomb the final bits of resistance to kingdom come from our aeroplanes and airships, and then march in and reclaim our capital. As LA is run by criminals anyway (I consider them criminals, as they illegally occupy Krytan territory), the political fallout (with the other races) will hopefully be minimal. After the war, all Lionguard are entirely free to continue serving in the Lionguard as defenders of the city (all races, not just humans) – albeit under the Krytan flag.

Mental Paradox.3845

Hi there. I’ve been playing Guild Wars 1 and 2 for as long as I can remember, and that’s why I find the state the human race is in during 1325-27AE rather pityful. I mean, we’re being beaten up by centaurs and bandits (!!), pirates stole our capital, and Tengu stole Sanctum Cay. Everybody and their grandmother are beating the kitten out of us. When I overheard Norn hunters talking about the “whining Seraph”, I knew it… we had become a joke, our “resilience” nothing more than empty words with no action to back it up.

I have been thinking about a sort of indirect “self-insert fic”, where I would let a group of characters execute my will in the world. This group, this “conspiracy” would gain control of Kryta during 1327-28AE and execute a number of radical policy changes. This “New Krytan Government”, or NKG in short, would be ultranationalist in nature (or is it “ultraracial” in this case?) – hell-bent on restoring humanity to its former glory. The NKG would be run by the player character from the first Guild Wars, who’s become immortal by some magical means – a human who’s been around since before 1070AE, and remembers Tyria as it was when Kryta, Ascalon and Orr were still beautiful, powerful human kingdoms. Centuries of watching his people beaten back and defeated drove him to this point.

How would the NKG come to power? I had a number of ideas – the orchestrated murder of queen Jennah at the hands of centaurs is one of them. This would further fuel hatred for centaurs in the hearts of Krytans, and make them more susceptible to extreme policies towards non-humans. Also, Jennah has no heir. Very convenient! To ensure our obscure group can seize power, a number of people need to be killed first. Caudecus, who has had his eyes on ultimate control of Kryta for a while – and Countess Anise, who I (and by extension the NKG) suspect of being Livia. Livia is a severe threat, cunning and influential, and has also been around since before 1070AE – and knows the leader of the NKG personally.

Now- things the NKG could do with their newfound power. These are ideas, and would be cool ideas for story arcs for fanfic/expansion.

Magic: The leader of the new government has over the centuries, come to believe Abaddon wasn’t a simple villain-sue we were lead to believe. There was a reason why he wanted us to command such powerful magic. Regardless of that reason, he has also come to believe this power can be regained. In secret, the NKG has sent agents all over the world to locate the bloodstones. They recover a piece of each bloodstone, and in the magical forges of the kingdom (the mystic forge, perhaps?) they are assembled into an artifact of great power. The wearer of this amulet, and the army (s)he commands, would be given control over pure magic – magic as Abaddon wanted it to be – pure, supremely powerful, and multifunctional. The NKG founds a magical academy, in the image of Nolani academy before it, to train the best mages in the nation.

Mental Paradox.3845

i do think though, that this current living story might be more about the elder dragons trying to kill each other, rather than the standard mo of killing and absorbing everything magical. Their cycle has no purpose if they just wipe everything out then sleep (yet still the minions fight each other). I think this because they wouldnt fight each other if they didnt have something to gain from each others death, they would just stick to their own areas and feed and sleep forever as a nice little family. In the end, if they always just gain magic and then lose it all anyway, it seems like they might be after a higher purpose than sleep, wake, eat, sleep. like the other elder dragons are stopping each other from doing something bigger than they currently are achieving

Why? Do you do serve a purpose higher than “wake, eat, work, sleep”? Why do the dragons HAVE to have a purpose greater than this?

Mental Paradox.3845

@Konig: I know the whole parallel universe theory was used to explain multiple servers. I was talking more about where the gods originally came from. That world where they brought the humans from. We already know some of the gods had predecessors if not all of them. It could be these predecessors are the ones that took the power orinally and the power was passed down generations along with the knowledge of how to transfer this power.

And what I was saying was that while multiple Tyrias exist – which your theory holds upon – they all have the same most important individuals and events.

So if Dwayna rose to power in one Tyria… Dwayna rose to power in all Tyrias.

Your theory was “Dwayna and co. come from Tyria A and when Tyria A was dying traveled to Tyria B, where they did not exist.” But by the definition of the multiple world lore we have, this cannot be, for if Dwayna and co. came from Tyria A, then they also came from Tyria B; and if Tyria A began to die, then so would Tyria B.

Parrallel universe theory also means that universes “closer” to ours (the ones we fight in WvW) are most similar (and indeed have the same large events etc), but universes “further away” are more and more different the further you go. A universe where the Gods don’t exist is entirely possible… it just won’t be a neightbouring universe…

Agree 300%. Orr is a great opportunity to put humans in the spotlight for a change, and a wet dream for lore-hounds.

Personally, I believe that once the peninsula is declared clear of Risen, the Pact should hand over Orr in Kryta’s care. If the Charr deserve Ascalon, it’s only right that humanity gets to regain their holy places.

One thing I find interesting is how the Antikytheria diagram is reminiscent of an atom.

Proton (Tyria), and surrounding electrons.
Also the name itself… “Antikytheria”

Anti-ky-theria.

Anti: counter
ky: ??
Theria: Thyria?

Perhaps the name itself references how it’s a system of balance, Thyria, and it’s “anti”, the counterweight, the sphere surrounding the proton – the electrons – the dragons.

On an unrelated note, as a scientifically minded person I was really annoyed by what Ogden said. Personally I wouldn’t believe everything he says. His perspective is just that – a perspective. He disses the Asura’s way of defining the universe around them, but I don’t see this this criticism as any different than how mysticists and religious zealots try to discredit science in the real world. I do believe the GW universe can be understood through reason and science, like the Asura are doing, but like all things it will take time. Ogden is a very old person. His opinions are like his body – set in stone. I’m sure that a few hundred years ago, a person saw lightning and said “we are not meant to understand it”. Science has been proving these people wrong time and time again.
