No. Not even as an upgrade. I loathe the very thought of how much of a grind getting the materials will be (oh and the trading post… everything required will be ridiculously overpriced for weeks). If it were just like “pay 50 laurels and you weapon becomes ascended”, I’d be okay with it. Instead we’d more likely get “farm 250 of rare mat X (depending on weapon type), 250 ectos and 100 laurels, for a single weapon”.
No. Just leave it at that. Let ascended items remain an experiment with juwelry and backbacks (btw where are regularly accessible exotic backpacks? Still running green and yellow ones because ascended ones are just too much grind…).
<sigh of relief />
I feared the worst when they announced moving stun breaks around. I have been running three cantrips (Mist Form, Lightning Flash, Armor Of Earth) since like forever. I think I can live with losing stun break on Lightning Flash, as long as this is where ArenaNet will stop at. The other ele changes actually sound quite positive, a lot of cast times being reduced.
@OP: Please edit the line abount Lightning Flash. For a moment I was completely shocked at the thought of the skill being removed, which indeed it is not.

Yepp, now also finished Dragon Ball Boss, it did not count either.
I just finished the achievement (Tier 2, 20 games of Dragon Ball) and it did not count towards the meta achievement for me, either.
This bug has been around some time, and appears not not have been fixed at all yet. It applies both to the ooze minipet and ooze mobs in the world. At a certain distance, when the model switches to a lower LOD (Level Of Detail), ugly radial spikes protrude from the body.
Image 1: Zoomed in, all normal
Image 2: Zoomed out by just a notch. Weird graphical spikes appear from the 3D model
Yes, I am experiencing the same bug since the March 26 patch. I have yet to find a way to leave the broom’s flying mode without getting tossed back to normal armor when costume brawling. When costume brawl is deactivated, it seems to function, however. Really weird bug.
Since the specific thread has been closed, I’ll post it here again:
The patch added titles being displayed below player name plates, but without any option to turn those titles off. Many players don’t care about the titles and are now already annoyed by the additional screen clutter, especially with many people around. (cities, large events etc.)
Is there a plan to add an option to disable titles below name plates?
I think if they add such an option it should be an overall disable of names/titles at the same time. Whenever you are looking to see some ones name, you should also see their title.
This would allow you to have even less screen clutter, but still make titles relevant
This already exists. The former option now hides names and titles together. However, names are very useful (especially because of the party/guild name coloring), while titles are not.

No, the whole point of titles is so that people can see your achievements. If you can turn them off we are back to where we were with them being completely unnoticable and worthless.
They would still be visible when a player is targetted. I am not annoyed by titles per se, but by the sheer amount of screen clutter now caused by them.
The number of coloring slots on my whispers armor (chest) has been reduced from 4 to 3. Now part of the armor is permanently red and it doesn´t fit at all.
I hope this is just a bug. It cannot imagine how any (sane) dev would consider this a change for good.

The concept is nice, but the choice is merely an illusion. You’ve still got the 5 you didn’t want to do before, and an extra 4 to choose from you’ll never do.
Why not just let us choose from the entire list since everyone’s play style is different, and you can’t lump the entire player base into 5 of 9 randomly selected “choices”?
QFT. If simply the entire set of all potential dailies were active on each day, then we could just go and play however we like and some of that stuff certainly is going to unlock. At the moment it is almost impossible during regular to complete the dailies without explicitly going for them.
I can confirm that both the corresponding mini pet as well as the charged potion turn you into the new model. While it is kind of cool I preferred the floating ball of lightning version, and what I really dislike is how the “scorpion’s string” on the new model goes under the “body” when standing still or walking slowly.

Now skipping him won’t become common. It’s gonna become tradition. lol
Funny, so far I have almost always been voting for killing Kohler, but depending on the annoyance level of the new fight with forced adds, I might join the skipping crowd quite soon.
As the title says, heh. After spending ~2-3 million Karma on Orrian Jewelry boxes (including Karma received from bottles and directly spending it again), I have 1 Charged Potion (yay), 2 Cold Potions (yay and and lol), and 11 Orrian Priest minis.
What to do now with the 10 surplus minis and the additional (and, btw, soulbound, not even account bound) Cold Potion? I suppose I could throw the Orrian Priests into the MF*, but what about the Cold Potion? It would be cool if there came a MF recipe that can turn any of those potions + appropriate mats into another potion, like [any potion + 250 of 3 types of ore each = hard potion].
*Since they are exotic, does that imply a higher chance for other exotic minis compared to throwing less rare minis into the MF? (EDIT: After checking, I found that the Orrian Priests apparently can’t even be put into the MF, what a bummer.)
These potions are awesome, but I now really fear that the next time I try my luck, I might end up with even more duplicates… XD
(edited by Mephane.8496)
I agree with the OP. It would be absolutely awesome if instead of a daily per day, we would get a contingent of 7 dailies per week, doable at our own leasure. I’d probably do all the week’s dailies on the weekend in that case, and not miss out on anything.
As the title says. When my forum session has expired, the forums prompt me to log in no matter what I do. I just now when from the GW main page to the forums, and could not reach the forums without actually logging in, all due to the fact that I had been logged in the previous time I was on the forums. I only ever post every couple of days and don’t bother logging in otherwise. This is annoying, please fix it.
P.S.: It gets even worse when I have the a forum open from last time, then open a dozen threads in new tabs, only to receive a dozen “log in” tabs, none of which would ever lead me to the selected thread because after that log in, I am always brought to the forum starting page. The same goes if I keep interesting threads open, then go off for the night, and the next night I go to my PC, launch my browser and all those open threads are replaced with log in prompts. Only via logging in in one of those tabs and then going back in local browser history on each of those tabs can I get them back.
I experience the same bug. I basically have to open the forums in another tab, log in there, then reload the open thread in order to reply.
I am seeing the same thing here. For myself, email address are displayer both above my friend list and in the guild window.
NO
I do not want the level cap raised, ever, as it would be just a cheap method of invalidating all previous players effort and reset our progression (everyone has to start new progression from zero).
I am fine with a bit of variety in daily and monthly achievements, however some of the new ones are nigh insufferable:
- Combo Killer. Seriously. On killing blow. Only when doing a combo with another player. You almost need TS/Vent just for the timing, and will spend half an hour just on this single achievement
- Daily Healer. I have done it. It is not hard. It is only tedious, arbitrary to perform, pointless and boring. Also reminds of LotRO trait grinding, aka “repeat arbitrary action N times to claim reward”. This is the opposite of fun.
Generally, I would suggest to completely remove all new dailies that only work with another player. I often do the dailies right after reset, before going to bed. I have to literally ask random strangers to help out with that stuff, or time my dailies with someone from my guild over the course of the evening. This should be something everyone can do at their own schedule and leisure, not at the mercy of other people.
Edit: Well on the good side, daily dodger was fun.
(edited by Mephane.8496)
The goal for Wintersday was to make it a little bit more relaxed, and so it takes place for an extended period of time with content that is accessible after the scheduled airship stops. This time of year is very busy for many people who want to spend time with their families for the holidays and many people also take vacations during the holidays. The way the Wintersday event was designed fits better with these considerations in mind.
Well, every time of the year is busy for many people with multitudinous real life duties, so I don’t see how this reasoning only applies to Winter’s Day. If there is one thing I really disliked about previous events, then it was this tight schedule that partially disallowed playing at one’s own leisure. The timing and resolution of Winter’s Day, however, with two final weeks where you can complete any part of the event as you like, is just perfect, and I would rather see only events in this style at all.
You can use them for tonics. Assuming you build 2 minis, you’ll have enough cogs to craft tonics from the other 3 frames (you need 50 of each mat if I recall correctly).
You don’t need cogs for tonics at all.
Saw the golem, knew I wanted the tonic – got it on my 2nd try, then bought the golem pet on the store. →happy asura
They did it to make money. No surprises here. Anet is a business the same as any other and the bottom line is always the most important thing. Placating the user base and keeping us throwing money into the RNG chests is just one of the ways they accomplish that.
No one is complaining that ArenaNet needs to make money, but about the means to that end. If the 3 pets from the chest were sold in a fixed package like those in Halloween, I would already have bought that package twice to get the pets and especially the quaggan pet. But I won’t gamble like that, neither with ingame nor real money.
I agree, this makes no sense, please revert it.
Lol, and on top of that you can’t by the minis explicitly like you could during Halloween.
@ArenaNet: You do realize that if I could just by a Winter’s Day Mini Pack with all 3 Minis, and transform them into the Baby Quaggan in the Mystic Forge, you would probably get me to by the Mini Pack Twice to get all 4 pets. This way, however, I won’t even bother. I will not gamble real money for ingame pets.
Okay, there’s a big elephant in the room…and it’s guarded by the Champion Karka. That permanently placed Rich Orichalcum node has single-handedly killed the Orichalcum market for profit miners and market speculators alike.
Some of us consider that a good thing…
Personally, I would love a monk-like fighter who would wear light armor, wield weapons like swords, kamas, quarterstaffs, nuckles, claws and even bare-handed (could just be a standard nuckle skin if technically unfeasible otherwise), and has the option, depending on utilities and traits, to go either for a more mystical/spiritual approach or be more of an agile fighter with little to no spiritual magic attached.
Those aren’t “Destiny’s Edge” armor skins. They are cultural armor skins and the NPCs of Destiny’s Edge wear them in order to be more representative of their individual cultures.
I easily get 50% of kills because I root someone in range of the zerg, or root them with dragon’s tooth and phoenix incoming.
Slightly off-topic, but I am curious: do you reliably get kill credit for that?
Signet of Earth causes a little bit of damage by itself right?
Yeah but kill credit, especially in WvW, can be quite wonky, and I wouldn’t expect to ever get kill credit for doing just the little damage of Signet of Earth before the zerg just mows down the victim.

I too had hopes for this AMA. And again I was disappointed.
Yeah, I was also hugely let down by them ignoring this question. We still don’t even have an answer whether the complete removal of the blast finishers was intentional, or whether it should only adhere to the 10 second cooldown of the different EA spells, or just produce a finisher with the earth spell. EA could be anything from working “as intended” (however questionable those intentions may be) and utterly broken even from ArenaNet’s point of view.
can someone please simplify this whole talk to me? i don’t understand a single word anyone is saying about gears and what not as am very new here (2nd day), all i want to know is has anything good came out of the AMA yet? what about security and account hackings? cheers!
Once Chris is done later tonight, there will be at least one or two persons that simplifies it, I’m sure.
I don’t want it simplified. I just want all the questions each followed by all the officials answer(s) to it in one comprehensive and readable format, like a FAQ or interview.
FYI to anyone having trouble finding AN responses on the reddit thread, I am just refreshing the ArenaNetTeam user page, which updates whenever Chris posts a response.
http://www.reddit.com/user/ArenaNetTeam
Are you saying the AMA is still going on? Even that basic and crucial information is not visible at a glance on reddit.
Not joining any specific discussion here because I have not yet read it because, well… there is nothing to read. Just a wall of many comments in a hard-to-read font with some ArenaNet posts mixed in.
Then people throw around links that show posts by ArenaNet, even totally unrelated, but not posts made from other GW2 employee accounts. I am not reading this by going through several pages, listings, threads or whatever trying to match questions and answers. Not to forget that the page does not give me any impression that the stuff shown is everything, which some of the links provided here apparently according to later posts are decisively not.
(Kudos to the “press context” suggestion – it opens the thing in as a separate page and does not show it inside the original listing, and you have to do it every single time. Reddit is the very opposite of usable)
Suggestion to ArenaNet for the future: have one person just fill a large forum posts in a
Q: blah
A: blah
style on the fly, then post the thing immediately as the session is over. Because I have other things to do in my free time than messing around with a site that is so muchc effort trying to get to the actual information that it becomes painful.
I have a feeling that this thread here would be considerably more active in that case. Many people probably just decide not to bother until an official and readable post is done.
There is also a change going into the current chest given exotic armors and weapons that will make them Account Bound and Soulbind on Use. So you can send those extra armors and things you get to your bank for your other characters.
So that’s what suddenly makes exotic items from the fractal end chests automatically account bound. And I already thought it was a bug. So whatever interesting drops in the fractals can only ever be had by grinding fractals, and to get, for example, the weapons skins you’d have to go through the entire threadmill including ascended gear and getting deep into the fractals. This means getting a specific fractal weapon skin is near a legendary in effort, except that you will have to spend most of your time doing the same thing over and over.
Totally not a grind.
1) 0 (plenty to do, never felt bored once)
2) 0 (with these insane materials required at the MF, I won’t ever bother with crafting Ascended stuff, and given that none of the dropped rings so far appears to match exotic “Cleric’s” gear, there is absolutely no incentive for me to get them, either)
3) 0 (the very opposite, I was extremely happy that with exotic gear, I could complete a character in stats, aim for armor and styles I like, get gear for alternative speccs, start a second character etc.)
4) 0 (alongside with a raised level cap, even higher tiers of gear are the things that would really have me questioning whether I should not just instead quit the game instead of following it through with expansions)
5) 0 (the introduction of better gear was completely unfathomable to me, having read all the blog posts, manifesto etc., and the announcement of ascended gear was quite a shock to me)
As someone who was finally convinced to get the game during last weekend’s event, I would absolutely have waited. I’d much rather have the elite puppy skill, a minipet, and a bucket-o-influence than a couple of boosts.
Who in the world is expected to buy this? Everyone who’s interesting in playing GW2 at a $60 price point right now surely was last weekend, and any non-GW2-player buying someone else a copy as a gift would be doing it through a major retailer, not direct from Anet.
I guess if someone wanted five more character slots (with bonus influence for their guild), and wanted to throw money at Anet, it might kind of make sense. Ish.
If I had just bought the game during the refer-a-friend trial last weekend, and just one week later the deluxe edition would come at the price of the standard edition… well let’s just say I would be quite mad. Starting a dedicated action to get more people to buy the game and then, one week afterwards, present a much better sale… this cannot be an accident.
The big problem is being able to do blast finishers on lavafont and granting a kittenLOAD of area might. It was bugged.
As has been said many time already: The fix should not have been the complete removal of blast finishers on EA, but to tie it either to each of the EA spells internal cooldowns, or its own 10 second cooldown which works independently on those 4 spells.
I think the problem with this recipe is the stats. You don’t get the very same stats as with the other recipes. What’s worse, there isn’t even one with certain stat combinations, like Cleric (Pow/Tou/Heal), which I use, and I feel no incentive to grind gear that does not even have the stats for my trait setup and playstyle.
Similar situation for people like me, wearing Cleric’s gear (Power, Toughness, Healing Power). None of the ascended items that I have seen in screenshots features anything remotely resembling such a stat distribution, the only ascended rings with healing power at all were of the +x on all stats type.
Weird, only part of the login process is affected. If you try entering gibberish instead of your password, you get a “wrong password” message.
Got 2 Exotics, 2 Rares, one account bound exotic accessory like the Triforge amulet, and a 20 slot bag (also account bound).
Culling + Veteran Karka roll attack = instant mass death
Today as I wanted to login, my password got rejected both in the launcher and on subsequent attempts on the website. I already feared the worst – account stolen and emptied – and hurried for a password reset.
When I was back in the game, everything was back to normal. My characters, my gold, my bank, my items, everything was there. So it was definitely not hacked.
I keep quite tight security and use long, complex and unique passwords, and have never had my account stolen or hacked on any game so far, so that would have come as a big surprise anyway.
By the way, I also did not receive any authentication email which would have happened had someone from somewhere else tried to log into my account. So in that regard everything is perfectly fine.
What else could have been the cause?
I concur after playing these dungeons I don’t think MF decked characters are the epidemic we think they are on these forums. Common sense dictates that in order to survive harder difficulties one must invest in gear that will help to survive.
So must think wisely to get that sweet loot.
Also isn’t it possible to wear MF Gear before looting chest?
Official response stated (and I could since then confirm) that the Fractals drop Magic Find+Vitality+Toughness items, which helps personal survival and personal loot. This means surviving harder difficulties and wearing full MF gear are not competing goals any more.
P.S.: MF does not affect loot chests, only what mobs drop directly.
Haven’t completed it yet. I must say, contrary to what some people are saying, that the puzzle is quite annoying, because of the strict timing component. I am all for difficult, tricky, long puzzles. But when the difference between success and DIAS is determined by the fraction of a second you are too slow with a particular jump, well, it gets quickly frustrating.
