Nobody asked for a new tier of gear and we CERTAINLY didn’t ask for such ridiculous requirements to create them.

Actually, this is wrong. Some people did, a lot of people did actually so your argument is null and void.

Apparently so many that ANet is willing to throw their manifesto out the window.
And kitten off the ‘minority’ that was drawn to buy the game because of that very document.

They should give 5 star rating to their PR team and lying skills.

And still going on…Pax interview…rofl

Gear wars 2 ,Farm wars 2 , Grindwars 2.All of those is what gw2 has become instead of actually having guild wars.A tittle that doesn’t even relate to their game in anyway….

I like Grind Wars 2 the best. Its most fitting

Can’t believe people are STILL kittening about grind in GW2. Since November this topic has been run into the ground and beat hundreds of times to death and here we are….September of the next year and you STILL keep complaining.

If ANet really felt they were wrong the way you insist they are, they wouldn’t continue with what they’re doing, including Ascended gear. Seriously. Get over it.

So no company ever did some very stupid decisions? Really?

ROFL

You don’t. You fail to comprehend the game, it’s market, the players, and the times.

Yah, ANet lost me somewhere along gear grind treadmill. What can you do.

I’m not a fan of gear grind either…which I why I don’t grind for gear. I’ll get it when I get it. I’m not at 500 crafting yet for any one of the professions and I probably won’t be for another month…and that’s okay.

Because I don’t need this gear to play the game. I’ll do quite fine without it. And when I get it, I’ll get it.

Says the guy with 2 legendaries.

There are some compromises that cannot be made.

And Anet is moving 180 degrees away from what they promoted for 5 years and what actually made them “fastest selling MMO ever”

You know this is very dangerous that you’re saying now because while you’re right some compromises are dangerous because they can end up alienating the two or more groups you’re trying to please, not compromising means you have to cut one group out.

If then you’re seeing the game move in a direction different then you would like (assuming its not a one time thing) chances are its because the other group is bigger. So forcing them to stop compromising might not have the desired result.

I said it a lot of times and I will do it again.
be careful what you wish for.

I think compromises are in everyone’s best interest personally.

Many company went against their current customers in order to “get moar” customers and came crumbling because in the end they made compromises noone wanted.

And yes, i would for once want them to say what exactly they want out of their game (well they did that before launch but then made 180 turn, so yah, lumps of salt and all that)

But, to put it into perspective – failed games took ANets current approach.

I am sorry and I dont mean to be disrespectful but you’re being a bit self centered here in my opinion.

You’re assuming the current customers = people who hate vertical progression. Current customers = those who bought the game and there were so many people in that group that wanted vertical progression that it was introduced in the very 2nd patch.

And 180 degree turn how? we knew this was coming from that very 2nd month. People say this is grindy but there are exotic weapons that are much worst to craft then any of these ascended weapons. None of the ascended gear locks up any content like they promised it never would. You can get Ascended weapons in different ways. Whats this 180 degree turn you speak about exactly?

Not to be disrespectful, but read the thread again.

Do we continue to get ‘Essence of Luck’ from daily/monthly instead of karma? Once Luck is maxed do we just continue to get another useless item that can’t be traded or forged or sold or anything else useful?

There should be an option on the daily and monthly, to either accept karma or magic find as the reward.

No mine is not maxed, that would be insane. I’m on 103%. Just thinking about the future…

They will say its too much, cut 300 to 150 and give you more bars, but now 20 times longer to grind to 300 again

So contrary to what they initially claimed (that Ascended was planned all along), Colin specifically states in that interview that Exotic WAS supposed to be final tier and Ascended was added because they underestimated how quickly people would get Exotic.

Ignoring the fact that people like being able to get max stat gear quickly so they then only have to worry about aesthetics, here we have proven that ArenaNet did outright LIE back in November, and that Ascended WASN’T planned prior to release.

It definately wasnt planned, you can see that it was conjured up very fast and shoved in the game by mere craptastic implementation.

Seriously people there is absolutely nothing that will ever make you happy.

I was quite happy for past year. Put 1000+ hours in the game.

You were saying?

Well guess what that same exact game is still there. Why on earth should a new goal ever make you unhappy?

Its a goal i have 0 interest and is shoved down my throat. And even more of that crap will be shoved very soon. And then some more.

Its not the same game, its now a game with gear grind treadmill i dont want to play any more.

I know, if it were me, I wouldnt have done that… but people wanted it and arenanet for some reason decided to give it to them. Not that it made any of them happy but anyway.

So it doesnt make anyone happy.

It just annoy rest of us. Why continue to play the game that constantly annoys you? Well i guess some people like banging their heads against the wall, not me though.

how is it being shoved down your throat? if you got no interested in ascended gear then whats the problem of ignoring it?

Because nothing ever makes people people happy.

no Ascended gear at all… people who dont care about cosmetics are unhappy
Ascended gear easy to get and quicky…. people who hate vertical progression will be unhappy when the new tier comes around
Ascended gear takes a long time to get…. everyone including those people who dont want a new tier are unhappy
Ascended gear can be obtained quicker using a lot of gold…. people complain about the cost
Ascended gear cannot be obtained quicker using gold… people complain the game is not allowing them to work harder to get it quicker
I could go on….

I dont know any other MMO that tried to make so many compromises and give people what they want.

Any other MMORPG would be want BiS? do this specific raids for months until all the stuff you want drops and you get your turn to get it or nothing. I am sure if this variety of options dont make you happy nothing else will.

There are some compromises that cannot be made.

And Anet is moving 180 degrees away from what they promoted for 5 years and what actually made them “fastest selling MMO ever”

Why ascended weapon is bad for wvw

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MikaHR.1978

MikaHR.1978

Are siege weapons bad for WvW?

Because near as I can tell those favor the well-prepared too.

Do you really think siege, which is not only inexpensive to purchase, and acquired regularly while playing WvW, is anything like a weapon with a time gate and a grind requirement?

And besides, Guild Wars 2 is about having fun, not preparing to have fun.

+5% more seige damage/defense, +2.5k hp & +100 power/cnd is also a grind to acquire (probably a longer grind than an ascended weapon) and by far outweighs the weapon strength you get from a 2 week time gated item.

Yes, yes it is. Additional huge grind. PER CHARACTER

You start to realize why its catch on with “Grind Wars 2” and why it goes against pretty much everything it was supposed to be

As I can read we have two groups. One group who thinks this is a grind game and another group who doesn’t think this is a grind game since they already have what group 1 wants. Hmmm, people can be so strange and false informed. As far as I can see is that people just love to complain and that Anet can do nothing good except when it’s exactly what they had in mind. Yes, sadly we are that spoiled. There is grind in GW 2 but not required to do to get something. If you just play the game for fun you can get everything. It might take a little longer but you can get it. Prizes will drop and you can buy it from the TP or be lucky enough to get it while playing. What I am saying is, doing be a spoiled brat that only had to pay 50 €/$ or so to play a game that gets a lot of new updates for FREE! Lots of other games cost as much and you are done with it after 25 hours… There are going to be changes you like and don’t like. And yes share your opinion about it but please with less drama.

Yes. I am spoiled. ENTERTAIN ME. That’s what I paid for. That’s what will keep me buying gems in the gem store. Do a kitten jig, sing a song, make flashy graphics.

Why would anyone except anything less from a hobby?

Exactly. Just a quick friendly reminder to people who come from facebook moneygrabbers or asian grinders, a game is an entertainment product. How on earth can someone who wants an entertainment product to be fun be called spoiled anyway? Want me to play longer? Want me to pay? Give me game, not this kitten.

Because, by some people, MMOs are not about fun and entertainment but boredom and work

Thats why those MMOs they used to play died off or are ancient history, they were epithome of boredom and if i want second job ill get second job.

It took 2 months to cave in to whiners and produce ascended out of nothing.

And the only thing he does say is “he hopes they dont introduce new tier”

Ktnxbai

2 months? People were complaining that exotics were too easy to get within the first week of release. People were fully geared out with exotics and their legendaries by the end of the first month. It took ANet awhile to answer the gap between exotics and Legendaries.

And before anyone says “thats ANet’s problem for being lazy and slow” and whatever insult you can think of. You gotta keep in mind that ANet is trying to cater to four branches of players. WvWer, PvE (explorers), PvE (farmers) and SPvP players.

ANet isn’t perfect, but after playing so many MMOs out there, I believe this game is the best option I have currently.

After playing so many MMOs out there GW2 became same as most MMOs out there. Even much worse in some aspects. And it will get ultra grindy very soon.

But then, that has nothing much to do with your missconception on what he said.

They said lots and lots of stuff before launch, most of those didnt come to anything and quite a few completely broken so i would say that their word means pretty much nothing, they may announce new tier tomorrow.

Ascended Gear to Kill Builds and Alts?

@MikaHR youre right I did forget about the infusions. I would quit logging in now but I spent so much money in the gem store that it feels like such a waste to quit. But Im not going to keep doing this.

I feel for you. Unfortunately unless enough people quit nothing will change and Guild Wars 2 will proceede to Grind Wars 2 as planned.

Imagine, you want to play new character or a new build:

6 ascended trinkets
4-6 ascended weapons
6 ascended armor
4-6 ascended sigils
6 ascended runes
16-18 infusions of w/e tier at the time

Just 1 character 1 build

At this rate that puts even worst Korean grinders to shame lol

done. now aside from fractals, tell me which content i can’t do in exotics?

So you think they will add all those stats without any “adjustements to content”.

Yah, i see it now, going around one shotting everything is what they planned all along rofl

Wish that people would THINK before they POST. Ah, wishful thinking.

Have you seen the upcoming changes to Teq? It promotes teamwork and coordination. I am guessing that they going for that in the “difficulty” department, instead of just bumping up numbers. And in the off chance that they do bump up numbers. I imagine the experience would to be the same as wearing yellows in an exotic world. Bit of a challenge, but still doable.

They just have to drop agony in dungeons and….pufff….insta crap

And leveling areas….great thinking rofl. Can you name ANY game that adjusted leveling area to max gear…like…ever?

When lvl65 can wear ascended, maybe they will rofl

ok, you lost me there.

Its not about difficulty, it was never ever in any game about difficulty but it was about gear check.

Teq is part of leveling content. Where exactly could you be lost?

I wouldn’t expect anything like that in the current open world areas. Teq is somewhat geared towards level 80s returning to that zone, but it’s still in a level 65 map.

I don’t think we’ll see gear checks outside of Fractals for a long time, if ever. But the possibility of new areas/content being created and balanced for players with ascended gear is real. Even in games without a hard gear check, content is still balanced for characters that are properly geared. It’s just a matter of whether Anet starts to consider ascended as properly geared, or leaves it as “over geared” while exotic remains the standard for balance.

I beleave ANet has talked about revamping all the dungeons around the FotM. If thats the case its safe to say that ascended it the bar they are working around.

Dont think that current dungeons would be touched, but new “hard”/“heroic”/“elite”/w/e mode….you bet.

I would agree that it was introdused because of small portion of playerbase who whined about it if it was actually implemented as such.

Since most of them got ascended weapons in first few hours, and most of them have legendary which was an auto-upgrade and even has “new functionality” to never have to grind for same ascended weapon of different stats so they still “dont have anything to work for”, it can be called – epic fail?

Nah, who designed this is doing his job as told by his overlords.

West is not target audience any more, if you notice NCSofts portfolio of games they are only pretty much present in the east and pretty much all of their games failed miserably in the west, and they are putting their eggs in the eastern market. That means reworking the game to rely on RNG and epic grind.

Weapons are just beginning, when that introduce everything they had to introduce to be “ready” for eastern (China) release and post launch releases….it will put even worst Korean grinders to shame.

Oh, and much more reliance on cash shop to “ease the grind” like buying Legendaries and various -utation stones, and as seen today buy gold for real money for insta Ascended gear.

What are we supposed to craft from 400 to 500? I made some ori ingots, got to 423 and now have no idea what to craft? Are we supposed to craft freaking exotics we’ve unlocked at 400? Do not compute.

Yes.

You are going to have to craft exotics all the way to 500.

Yes….take a second to let that sink in.

Then just make a legendary. About the same money required…swappable stats.

No you don’t have to craft exotics to 500 you refine the new mats that were introduced today…..

kitten people need to pull their heads out of their kitten.

You need to salvage exotics for dark matter anyway. Since that seems to be not so common slavage….rofl

Before November we had to put in an acceptable amount of effort to obtain max gear. From November to Aug it went from acceptable to High amount of effort to get fully maxed gear. Now the time constraints are unreasonable and by the end of the year getting max gear will be insane. Hoping EQnext wont make this mistake. Im counting the days till I can leave this game.

Finally someone who looks beyond 2 weeks and realistically look at the near future.

You also forgot about all the infusions they plan to release in between.

Ive said that when they finally release all the crap they intended Legendary weapon grind will be like a fond memory lol

Welcome to FLASHBACK 2012.

This is what happens to the peeps who say “LOL you noob if you think GW2 is a grind you don’t know what a grind is”. Yeah, all that “We don’t make grindy games”, ‘we don’t have a gear treadmill’, etc. All the peeps that harped on those of us who complained when the first implementations of all this began to surface. Yeah…

To all those peeps who said it wasn’t a grindy game…LOL.

To be fair, when Ascended was announced we were told that armor and weapons would also be coming. You cant really call it a treadmill, or mind blowing news, when its the same tier we have known about for a year. They just took their time introducing trinkets through various means.

Just as they told they dont make grindy games and all the crap before launch
Just like that they could just drop whole ascended crap and leave it at trinkets, or even better reduce ascended trinkets to exotic with infusion slot
Just as they could have implement it not as a joke that doesnt serve any intent or purpose they say it serves and only increases the grind for people that dont want grind in the first place.

Yes, just like that they could have done a lot much better things but they implemented a joke for GW2 players.

Fairly obvious you didn’t bother reading past the portion you quoted. If you can’t be bothered to read the discussion, don’t bother trying to reply. It just clutters the board.

I read it and i just didnt find anything useful in it sorry bro

I played FF11 for years and that game was a GRIND. Almost a 2nd job no joke. This game is no where near the amount of grind that game was. Some weapons you would need to get items that had a 0.9% drop rate and the monster would only spawn every 72 hours AND you had to fight to get the monster while 19 other people were camping trying to kill it. So yeah this is nothing.

And then that game is part of history and failed miserably in the west (like all korean grinders)

Your point?

Its not as bad (YET) as some crappy korean grinder so that makes it allright rofl

And i like it….Grind Wars 2, its quite suitable

The point is everyone should shut their face about the grind because it’s NOT a grind.

Oh good, you like GW2. I have this overwhelming urge to yell at everyone how it’s not a proper grind.

It is a grind. This is not Korea.

Boy I had grinding super mario brothers to get to world 8

Good for you!

Iunno about grind but someone’s already about to craft an ascended bow here in Divinity’s Reach…

Thats the whole irony of their crap system – if you have lot of gold (and if you are hardcore and whined “theres nothing to do at 80” you do) it will be very short ride lol

Implementation of ascended is pretty much…fail for all intents and purposes they say it has lol

So when they said 2 weeks did they assume either:

  • You have infinite gold
  • 24*14= 336 hours

As expected, complete trash.

2 weeks was earliest.

That of course includes either lot of gold or lot of grind.

Put it this way: I am having more fun in Neverwinter/Defiance/Firefall than this AAA mmo at the moment. Reason: No grind. No time gating. Do what I want when I want.

Hows Firefall, was eyeing it for a while and nows a good time to try?

Its a good shooter in open world. Crafting is a huge cornerstone of that game and is ridiculously intricate. Best crafting system Ive seen in a game. I enjoy it from time to time. I dont want to get into describing other games too much so that this thread is locked. I merely compared and contrasted my enjoyment with other games and my enjoyment in correlation with ascended gear and grind in guild wars 2 (which was supposed to be my non-grindy and non VP game).

But it is free to download and play.

PM me if you want to know more.

Probably will try it since a lot of free time just opened in my schedule

You gotta admit that all the changes that Anet did over the year, indeed brought them lots of potential customers. They are making more money right now, so y should they keep their promises?

I don’t like the changes either , but y not relax and enjoy the best of ur 50$?

Revenues are down 20% from quarter to quarter. So, um…no?

Which it typical for most MMOs even successful ones. Most games (and books for that matter) sell in the first 90 day of it’s life span. I know this first hand. It’s not a guess.

There are exceptions to the rule, but they’re very rare.

So in true words they are not making more money now than before.

Thaks for clarification.

Guild Wars has always been unapologetically grindy — for aesthetics.

Power on the other hand has the lowest grind of any major MMO.

Until now is what you meant to say.

Now you can argue what is more grindy, WoW or GW2.

game developers are neither psychic nor omniscient. The manifesto is originally quite a few years old I guess. Ideas change and adapt when you implement them. Apparently the horizontal progression approach did not work very well, so here we are.

They managed to be “fastest selling MMO ever” based on exactly things from manifesto.

Hmm… I’m not even sure if a level cap increase makes sense. I’ve already pocketed enough experience to be level 300+, so adding levels for the sake of adding levels seems to be a lot of wasted efforts with rebalancing the game, etc.

I’d be quite content with 80 forever… there’s already enough new content every couple weeks keeping things fresh.

It goes hand in hand with new direction of vertical progression and gear treadmill.

A lot of people on this thread needs to think if they actually want to play the MMO genre in general, not just GW2. The same people who are acting like ANet is bringing out WoW gear grind where you need to get best in slot gear pre-raid, then raid multiple times per week, just to get DKP, with the chance that said item will drop, if you have the DKP to even get it, when in fact it may not drop period. MMO’s are grinds if you hadn’t found that out before GW2 you have now and there are way more bothersome issues GW2 has then this. I refuse to believe people who complain about grind in GW2 have played ANY other MMO.

I have played L2 quite a long time, so when you mention WoW as some kind of grind i say its you who has severe lack of experience.

If you hold someone’s feet to the fire for everything they say, the next thing you know they don’t say anything.

One thing I think is missing from all these critiques of what they said is that people’s viewpoint change. I think ANet originally planned to have exotics be the top level gear and they changed their minds to be more responsive to the desires of the community.

Now, IMO, the smart thing to do was to come out and say something like – we planned X, you’ve asked for Y, so we are providing Y. Instead of saying things Y was planned for the start or Y isn’t Y because legendaries are still BiS.

But just because they aren’t the best at communicating, doesn’t mean we should say they lied. They changed their minds. If you want them to keep talking to us (or start again) then we need to collectively relax. Not everything they believe now is the same as what they believed then. It doesn’t mean they lied.

Talk is cheap. Especially from ANet. Because everything they say will probably change tomorrow. So what exactly is the use of them talking?
