The only class/weapon with any kind of advantage that I can think of, is Ranger/Longbow. Most other classes have comparable range weapon options. So I don’t think range really has an advantage. Besides, with more space there is more room to run around evade and dodge.
Personally I like when mid point is open like on Coliseum. Can get a bit hard to see whats going on when its crunched up, like on Skyhammer mid.
So far my only complaint about the map is the colouring is a bit boring. TBH though, when I’m fighting i’m not really taking that much notice of the colour-scheme lol.

Frankly I think we should embrace noob friendly classes. I mean everyone has to start somewhere.
You can get a “feel” for a class running around pve, but that does zero to help prepare you for pvp. So why should we get all bent out of shape if/when someone chooses to take a slighty easier build and work their way up.
smh – i am so kitten over all these threads whingy about this class or tht

FWIW I think class stacking in general needs to be addressed. There are nine professions in the game, can’t be that hard to spread them across two teams.

And Things I’ve Learned in PVP
Lately there has been a bit of chat about the lack of a pvp tutorial, so I thought I would get the ball rolling with a few thoughts & observations from my own experience. These are in no particular order:
Conquest
- Points are called “Home” (or Close) nearest point to base spawn (Except on Legacy of Foefire where home could easily be mistaken for far), “Mid” the middle point which we all fight over, and “Far” the oppositions home point
- Press “B” while you are waiting for the match to begin to see the composition of the opposing team. Eg: if there is a thief on opposing team chances are they are going to try to steal home. Be prepared.
- Splits are how your team will divide up among the points. It is denoted as #near(or home)-#mid-#far. So 1-4-0 would mean 1 player at Home and 4 to Mid, 0 to far.
- Rotation, in simplest terms, is about knowing where to go (or not go) and where you can be most helpful for your team. See here for more: http://qqmore.net/video-guide-rotation/
- Secondary map mechanics are exactly that….SECONDARY. Conquest is about capping and holding points. Trebuchets, Lords, beasts, buffs etc can help you advance a lead, but will do you no good if you can’t cap and hold points.
- Call & focus targets. Healers & condi damage you want out of team fights asap. Use the target function (default is Ctrl+T) to call targets and focus them down as a team. If someone else calls a target first focus on that. Divided efforts mean you are more likely to lose team fights.
- Fighting on/Fighting off point. More often than not you want to fight on point. It will help you hold a point longer, or keep it contested and stop opposition from earning. Fighting off point can be strategically useful, if it stops the opposition from decapping or contesting. But fighting off point, just for the hell of it, generally not a good idea. There is Courtyard Deathmatch if you just wanna kill peeps.
- Multiple teammates standing on an uncontested point don’t cause it to cap any faster. Capping a point is the same speed regardless of how many of you stand there.
- When protecting capped points, it is best to stand half way between two points and not on the capped point. Eg: don’t stand on Home if it is capped, stand halfway between Home and Mid. This puts you in a better position to assist your team at either point when necessary. Standing on an uncontested capped point while your teammates 4v5 the rest of the map is not helpful.
- Sometimes a quick decap is better than a full cap, particularly on far and enemy is respawning
- Sheathing your weapons cancels skill activation. This action is not bound to any key by default. (Weapon swap can do same thing)
- Rez your teammates, when you can. Rezzing isn’t always possible. Sometimes it is quicker to stomp the downed enemy and let teammate rally. Other times you will need to disengage.
- Learn when & how to disengage. There is no good reason to stay 1v3 on mid and die, when you could go far and +1 a teammate. This sort of falls into learning rotation.
- Safe stomping is when you use a block/interrupt etc so downed player cannot be rezzed before you kill them. It is helpful to use even if you are not the one doing the stomping (think teamwork)
- You can interrupt enemies attempting to stomp your teammates. Additionally, if you have an AoE attack, dropping it on a downed player is usually a good idea.
- If you are downed, do not activate your bandage skill (#4 downed skill) unless you are absolutely sure you are going to recover. This just otherwise increases the time in which you are out of the fight.
- If you are going to go down and your opponent hasn’t capped a point, usually you want to down on point as it will contest it for the duration of your down state.
- Personal score does not directly affect the outcome of a match. So don’t stress over your score, contribute to the team.
- If you don’t know something, swallow your pride and ask. I’d rather someone ask me a million dumb questions than make a 100 noob mistakes.
This list is by no means exhaustive (or perfect).

Match manipulation? Botting?
Find pvp players: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars2PvPTeams/
Here’s a crazy idea for balance & build diversity. In pve as you level up the game gives you X-amount of core stat points and spends them on your Power, Precision etc depending on your class. What if when you went into pvp (for the first time) all those points got reset and you had to manually attribute where to spend yr stat points.
Say you get 2000 stat points:
Warrior might put 1000 into power, 500 toughness, 500 vitality.
Necro 1000 toughness, 500 condi, 500 expertise
Think you get the idea. (BTW just pulling these numbers out of thin air by way of example) Then amulets etc could be used to buff stats you didn’t put points into, or supercharge ones you did.
In this system, you could choose to go full power and do massive amounts of damage, but your play style would definitely have to change to adjust for low life and toughness.
Anyway, its a thought.

Personally I think it’s a combination of things. Including, but not limited to:
- No ingame help so folks know the basics.
- Crappy (some might say broken) matchmaking system
- Lack of balance between classes and builds
I think most folks have simply become increasingly frustrated with trying to play within a broken framework. Look at all the complaints around SoloQ. Most of those would be solved with clearer MMR and better MM.

Deliberate and habitual dc & afk should be punished. Cos let’s face it, those type of ppl ruin games. But to me it feels like the current system punishes ppl trying to do the right thing.
No matter what the circumstance it sucks all round if there is a dc. For your team mates who are left short, and for you as the dc as you madly try to reconnect to avoid dishonor.
Pips/dc/dishonor is a BAD combination. Many times in ranked yr team gets salty if you return after dc. You don’t want the dishonor so you can continue to play, they don’t won’t the pip loss. Everybody loses, toxicity ensues.
Dishonor/dc is just one of many problems in pvp atm. Honestly don’t know what I can say that hasn’t already been said. Guess we all just live in hope that devs find a better way.
Find pvp players: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars2PvPTeams/
I think the OP is on the right track. Something GW2 is missing overall is any kind of tutorials. When I first started pvp I didn’t have a clue what was going on just from the instructions on the screen, I was totally on reliant on observation and the helpful “abuse” from other players.
So many other games have an option to play bot games as a way to learn. Would it really be so hard to introduce a “tutorial” server in hotjoin as a place for people to learn?
Find pvp players: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars2PvPTeams/
I’m sure that Season 5 changes are already decided so i’m making a suggestion for Season 6.
Changes below are aimed to improve the current PvP Ranked Games.
1.Division Demote: Every division except ‘Amber’ & ‘Emerald’ should feature a demote – where you can drop to your previous division if you loose 3 matches at the beginning of top tier divisions – Sapphire,Ruby,Diamond,Legend – Trolls, afk players and other type of unskilled and bad mannered players shouldn’t have a safeguard to keep them in top divisions once they get carried to top tiers. No one should be safe to troll and ruin games for others.
2.Class Mastery: Top Tier Division (Ruby,Diamond,Legend) promotion should require you the 5 difference classes wins (like the achievement but this should be bound with progression bar) – Unacceptable to have players in diamond, legend who play single class and cannot re-roll when team needs it for the optimal team composition.
3.Pre-made division restriction: Pre-made teams should not be able to form party with 1 division difference – amber cannot party sapphire and so on – Playing with sapphire in diamond, legend is just not right.Skill/build/meta/class gap is way too high or different comapared to low tiers – those people will have to walk the way from bottom to top and master their skills instead of poping up here and there at top tier matches where they do not belong.
If people want to play with their friends go play unranked and help your low tier friends master pvp so they can climb the ladders like rest of us instead of carring them to games they cannot handle just to ruin the for the team and the enemy team.4. NO Mono-Class Teams in Ranked : Ranked games to get the tournament feature which allow only 2 of same classes per team (2 eles per team for example).
1 – Agree – but would extend to include Emerald
2 – Disagree – I’m not opposed to class mastery per se, but it should not be attached to seasonal achievements. Majority of players excel at one class. Being competent does not win matches and I think “mastery” should encourage excellent in competition not mediocrity.
3 – Agree
4 – Agree – however increased build diversity, better balance and addition of classes will all help achieve same outcome.

Only problem I see with this is that mods seem to have a problem with posting match results.
Find pvp players: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars2PvPTeams/
Okay, first up can we all agree 4v5 is not fun.
Working on the presumption 4v5 is not fun, I can see no reason why a discussion aimed at reducing or eradicating the occurrence would cause such outrage.
For the current season Anet introduced the ability to report “Idle Players” and “Match Manipulation”. This fact tells me two things:
1 – AFK’ers and their ilk were already a known problem
2 – PVP players were unhappy about the problem & said so
More than a couple of threads already exist regarding what is happening to reported players. This tells me:
1 – AFK’ers etc are still a problem
2 – PVP players are unhappy about the problem & saying so
What OP has said is a “suggestion”. It is not a call to action, it is not written in stone, it is not a done deal. IT IS A SUGGESTION FFS!
Given what a bloody mess ranked pvp is in right now, if you are not actively being part of the solution then you are by default part of the problem.
Learn how to read and comprehend, then grow the kitten up and add something useful to the conversation or shut the kitten up.
Personally I am all for some kind of “punishment” system being introduced. I am also in favour of having the option to surrender and/or individuals resign from a match. Genuine pvp players (of all skill levels) play Ranked for the competition.
IRL kitten happens, it could happen to any of us that we need to unexpectedly leave a match. Such an occurrence should not be punished. But habitual and deliberate offenders need to suffer a comparable penalty to that which they inflict on their teammates when afk/ragequit etc.
You may all release your vitriol in my direction at your leisure.

Not so long ago, LoL held a roundtable meeting between developers and several player representatives. The purpose was to address issues with queue times and match quality.
More recently Anet have been surveying players regarding changes to WvW.
It’s obvious there is no need for “radio silence”. Yet the pvp community only receives the odd breadcrumb here & there from devs.
There are a lot of genuine competitors (at varied skill levels) in the pvp community, Anet needs to take their head out of the sand long enough to listen.
Maybe we, the pvp community, need to stop complaining and get proactive. Create a survey to develop an accurate picture of what we want? Is just an idea.

As it was pointed out earlier in this thread, Pro-league has no class-stacking. Why does the same rule not apply in Ranked? Is it really that difficult for devs to apply some logic when making changes?
TBH I can’t really say anything that hasn’t already been said. But want to lend my support to some real and meaningful change to pvp.

In theory I think it is a good idea. Would also motivate people not to akf so they don’t lose precious pips that are actually worth something. Depending on what Anet actually implement for S5 I think this could be great way to bring more incentive to pvp.
Find pvp players: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars2PvPTeams/
FWIW I believe a lack of visible progression within pvp leads to alot of misconceptions regarding pro league and negativity. We have a messed up ranked system that doesn’t rank players on performance and we have nothing to aim for beyond a backpiece. Perhaps if there was a system where regular players could see that they can aspire to pro league we would have less negativity.
Find pvp players: https://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars2PvPTeams/
People and there need for safe spaces..
but really don’t let it bother you op salt is salt, and majority of the times bad players are the salty ones as good ones understand seasons matchmaking, with understanding comes acceptance and with acceptance comes knowledge that you win some you lose some, if your decent you’ll get to leg, if your not and grind, you’ll get there to.
Salty/toxic players don’t truly bother me. But I don’t see why I should have to play with them if I don’t want to, nor should anybody else. PVP is a chaotic mess atm, all it needs is more toxicity and we will lose the small population we currently have.

We’ve all had a player or players on our team that we wish we never had to see or speak to again. I’m sure I’ve got my fair share of “fans” who groan at the sight of my name in the team list. They get all salty and mouthy, so you hit block.
You feel better for a moment knowing you won’t have to see any more of their crap. Until…. holy moly look who is on yr team in the next match.
Earlier todat I saw this: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/My-sad-experience-in-Ranked-PVP/first#post6297945
Tonight I had my own bad experience.
Match 1 – salty cos we lost, even though from outset we were technically overpowered. We put up a good fight, but not good enough. Mr Salty blames it on anyone but him. Blocked Mr Salty after a bit of name calling.
Match 2 – Mr Salty on opposition. Revenge really is sweet sometimes.
Match 3 – Mr Salty on same team as me again. I made my apologies to the team, but I was not going to play my hardest when I suspect this guy would be sitting back typing away and doing anything but fighting. I dc’d deliberately so my unfortunate teammates at least would not lose a pip.
Perhaps dc was not the best option, as it’s not fair on the other players. Unfortunately Anet does not make it truly possible to avoid toxic players and leaves little choice.
I don’t like using the forums to complain, or complaining in game. Complaining in general is not very high on my list. But seriously I think Anet need to look at putting something in place besides blocking chat which means we as players, solo queue or not, can have some control over the type of people we encounter.

Gw2 pvp has it’s issues, but personally I think the ability to swap class and tinker with build pre-game is good enough. TBH having played Overwatch, I’m not a fan of changing champs on death. Seems to encourage alot of jack o’ all trades kinda players. I’d much rather play with someone who knows there class and mechanics inside out.
Why is it a bad thing that a player can play multiple classes?
Also, I don’t even advocate for people to be able to change their class. I’m only asking for them to be able to change the build. If you’d rather play with someone who knows their class inside out, this is exactly the thing you ask for: a teammate who knows their class well enough to change their build/playstyle and adapt to new situations.
I never said it was a bad thing. Frankly I think it’s important to be able to play more than one class, which is I why I rotate on three in pvp. The more you play and the different classes the better you understand the game, in GW2.
My comments of jack o’ all trades relates to playing in OW. Seen it games, dudes dropping like flys, changing champ every death trying to get an easy OP champ they can make do with.

Discussion re: good, bad, average is moot I think until we have a ranking system that actually ranks the individual. As long as we are dependant on grind fest and team driven result in solo queue, how can any of us have any certainty regarding our ongoing performance?
