tough on my warrior.
You might want to actually learn how to play the Warrior first, if you honestly believe this.
The Warrior is the best PvE class in the game, by a far, far, far margin, even better than the Guardian, you know the class many Warriors complain about? I can quadruple any damage you do on the Ranger, even if you’re in full glass spec with my Warrior, and my Warrior isn’t a damage spec.
And get this, the Warrior brings far more benefits to the group, being able to keep regen, fury, swiftness, and 3 stacks of might up permanently for his entire group.
The Warrior is the fourth best PvP/WvW class in the game, only behind Thief, Mesmer, and D/D Elementalist for obvious reasons.
<walks away shaking his head>
Why do people have to get so personal all the time? Did you actually read the post? All I said was that in the early stages of levelling I was suprised at the level of enemies I could take on with my ranger that even were challenging with Warrior. This is probably due to the distraction of having two pets and being able to swap them. It’s not a comment on the later stages of the game. Of course I know warrior is great..I use one for basically all my dungeon runs in Knights gear and am now levelling him through fractals…He survives brilliantly and still does awesome damage. So I am well aware that they are probably the best class in the game with the highest damage.
Well I guess it’s true you cannot make a final judgement until 80..but although I don’t think it comes anywhere close to Warrior or Mesmer..I am finding I survive more than I thought I would and it’s a LOT better than my necro that I levelled up to a similar level. It has a LOT of p[otential as a class and I hope ANET flesh it out a bit more. I’m not saying it’s perfect by any means, but it is better than I was led to believe.
Ok…I’m levelling up my ranger..and I don’t know how or why..but im fighting enemies up to 7 leverls above me..which was IMPOSSIBLE to do on my ele and tough on my warrior. Seriously, I’m like..wow..are they really as bad as they were made out to be? My weapons are longbow and torch and axe3…I find the snares and conditions great and the knockback on longbow cool….Have they been misjudged….? Admitedly I’m only level 28 at this stage..but I can’t help but feel they have been unfairly maligned
?
(edited by Mitch.4781)
Call me insane. But I quite like playing as Engineer. Its not perfect, but I can survive a whole lot longer than my Warrior.
Really??
Individual AoE damage isn’t the problem, the problem occurs when 20 players all stack AoEs in the same space. In WvW, there are guilds out there that stack the best AoE classes and can wipe out large groups of players in seconds. This change will make combat in sPvP and WvW far more involved and enjoyable.
Maybe not stand in aoe like an kitten then? There is a dodge manoveure. Or at least maybe make it so that Aoe in groups of more than 5 is affected …rather than punishing pve dungeon players…
I will never ever buy gems simply becuase of these underhanded tactics. When the game first came out I bought $50 worth and was eager to spend them…but now I see Anet forcing us to go down this route simply because earning any kind of gold is so incredibly time consuming…They should be very very wary. Once a player leaves a game..it takes an enormous amount of persuasion so ever bring them back and the fact is there are lots of chocies out there with even more due on the horizon. I relaise they have to make money, but it should not be done in such an underhanded way.
What about sea of sorrows?
If you want to see a shift in cumulative damage from AoE to single-target, you don’t perpetuate the problem by making one less effective. You find an actual solution.
Do me a favour and get some common sense, they’ll test until theyre 100% sure before putting it in a patch.
Umm..Ya sure about that? Have you played the game at all?
Guild halls, Allainces and the old guild chat/allaince system. Multiple and creative builds, necros actually being good, decent minions, more varied maps, proper boss drops, rit’s n monks, Cantha, Elona, petless ranger..decent ranger class, the way conditions would show as different colours on a mobs health bar and not a crappy tiny icon, group missions, skill capping, decent elite skills and more of them, henchmen, free map travel, customisable UI..Honestly the list could go on and on. The only thing GW2 really has over gw1 is jumping, underwater and better graphics. As a game..is it really better playabiltiy wise? I ’m not sure the answer is yes
Could be ANet got clued in on that video of 5 elementalists holding back a zerg at a chokepoint and felt that was not how the game should be.
.
Why shouldn’t it be like this though? that’s what I don’t understand. What better way to break up a mass zerg than a few eles throwing down mass aoes? Why try and force people to play the game down a very narrow minded tunnel? Also, as my main is “was” an ele, I am getting sick of never feeling powerfull..I command the elements for god sakes! I should feel amazing! Things like this is one small way of making you feel usefull and unique….Oh well…I will draw final conclusions when the actual patch goes live. But tbh, Anet have done themselves NO favours with this vague and reckless statement regarding aoe. Talk about putting your foot in your mouth and chewing it off!
Mesmer craps on Necro from such a great height its not even funny. Not to mention it has some of the best utilitiesin the game ( hello feedback) and probaly the single best Elite – Time Warp. I would never have a necro in my group over a mesmer. Asit stands, they shouldn’t even be in the game given how utterly worthless they are.
AoE nerf is basically nerfing Ele. There are no other class that is as reliant on AoE as Ele. Why don’t give us a greatsword instead, remove staff from game. Problem solved. Nerfing is never the way to go. Thief does insane amount of single target burst damage and ANet still wants to nerf AoE. Joke. Clearly they aren’t monitoring and studying their game close enough.
If you are a S/d and staff necro..you’re entire build relies on conditions and aoe….the ataff in particlar becomes completley useless. As well as bad staff1, the other 4 are all marks on the ground which can be unwieldy to use in the first palce as they aren’t direct damage. Honestly gutted about how badly implemented necros are..and don’t even get me started on those pathetic minions.
I also think its HILARIOUS how you can basically outrun staff 1 on a necro..I mean really..REALLY???
Have you ever watched some of those sick thief vids?
Engi is still viable but requires more skill to use properly.
I agree that Ranger and Necro are just completely no viable for any real use that other classes can’t perform better.Yeah I was thinking more of from a pve point of view…Thieves are good in pvp but no one really wants them in a dungeon group for example..and people actively KICK rangers..which is just really sad imo
Not true either, since Shadow refuge combined with swiftness, helps quite a bit in skipping content safely, that wouldn’t be possible for the party otherwise.
When I farmed my gift for Quip, I was lucky enough to party with a thief every time in CM, skipping quite a bit with Refuge, which made the runs faster.
We did the same to rez party members in tight spots.I do think it’s their only redeeming value in a dungeon though…
Exactly..you’re having to pinpoint a particular circumstance..even then..warriors can mass speed buff, so can mesmers + mass invis….eles with air swiftness group buff..guardians…Thief isn’t offering anythign extra to the group that these classes haven’t already covered.
It’s common sense it should be a majority vote..3/5…Another thing that should be implemented before aoe nerfs….
Honestly I’m not expecting new areas quite so soon. Making them probably takes more time and resources than almost any other aspect of the game. Southsun Cove is the only new “full” area that has been released and most people really dislike it.
Yea, whenever I open the world map. I am always thinking when will we be able to explore the unopened parts of the map. Also when will we face the other elder dragons other than Jormag in Frostgorge and Zhaitan in story quest.
You don’t fight Jormag in Frostgorge Sound. You fight one of his lieutenants or champions or whatever.
Thats cos it feels terribly unfinished. You literally have NO reason to go there other than mining ori’s..What a wasted opportunity
Have you ever watched some of those sick thief vids?
Engi is still viable but requires more skill to use properly.

Yeah I was thinking more of from a pve point of view…Thieves are good in pvp but no one really wants them in a dungeon group for example..and people actively KICK rangers..which is just really sad imo
I like how beating them with a shovel or throwing a rock at them does more damage than your greatsword, fireball or earthquake…I mean rly?
With all these new updates coming, I hope they take a serious look at which classes are working – Warrior/Guardian/mesmer..which are ok but need some improvements – Ele/thief and those which are bad Ranger/Engi – to those that are utterly dreadfull Necro..imo
How could they have got the necro..one of the core classes and most powerful from GW 1 so wrong? Awful awful minions….terrible dull weapon skills and the only build worth playing ie conditionmancer now in danger of suffering massive nerfs through this upcoming aoe revision.
Currently the top four classes Warrior/Guardian and Mesmer with possibly DD eles seem the only ones worth playing. What do you think?
I’m just suprised that there has not even been a minute squeak about what they plan to do with these maps.
There have been bits and pieces of information coming out, but nothing concrete, if that’s what you mean. We can obviously see from closed off portals that they plan on making the Crystal Desert and the Maguuma Wastes accessible.
Well this is the stuff that I’m interested in..not removing wp ressing for existing dungeon. I rather suspect I’m not alone in this.
Has it occurred to anyone that AoE is actually too dominant in this game? That virtually every class is full of AoE skills?
And that maybe the devs would like combat to look less like carpet bombing?
Dunno. If they nerf AoE but buff single target damage or survivability where needed, it could actually be a good thing.
I would really like you to provide crystal clear examples where AOE is too dominant..and actually of much use for that matter.
WHat’s so ironic is that AOE damage is really not that great anyways and is very easily avoidable. Have you honestly been in a dungeon for example , where you thought..omg your aoe really flattened those scavangers? More likely you were thinking ..Oh this is so lovely being knocked down and then not being able to get up while the mob wails on me. Yeah..it’s stuff like THIS that needs fixing..not aoe….
Its amazing how many brilliant ideas, concepts, spells, weapons, lore, enemies and so many other great things they simply abandoned or ignored. It’s really sad in some ways
Keep in mind grenades just got a 30% damage nerf in the last update, just remove them from the game already.
Just remove the whole class while your at it..lol Honestly..what are they doing?
Just to clarify, you’ll no longer be able to use waypoints when a party member is in combat inside a dungeon. This is prevent people from using waypoints to rush and kill bosses or clear areas, which is not intended game play.
All other forms of res remain unchanged.
Glad that I got my dungeon gear already. Won’t be setting my foot in one again.
On the plus side, i may now actually have a use for my tailorer and armoursmith :|
“Tera online going f2p looks like ill give that a try until so comes out.
"
This. ANet should tread warily. There are some very good business models coming from other MMO’s..Secret World ftp too. Not to mention ESO coming out from a very beloved franchise. They should be doing EVERYTHING they can to retain their playerbase..not alienating them….This single move could be a massive blow to the game.
Maybe they are saving the best till last Idk..but so far, I remain apathetic about what I’ve read.
The kind of new content you want is the most expensive and difficult to create. Compared to how much of a resource hog new maps and voiced stories are, changes to the engine or the addition of new items to acquire for completing content already in the game are a bargain. I understand what you expect, and I’m not saying you shouldn’t want these things, but this kind of content is just not very economic when you can give players the same amount of replayability at only a fraction of the costs.
Well as far as maps go..I wouldn’t be suprised that they already have them done and will open them up as the year goes on and say “see look at all this new stuff you’re getting”…Well this is what I’m hoping because the world itself is not that large and a lot of those zones are already very stale…and launching new quests or de’s doesn’t really do anythign to change that. Don’t get me wrong, these are good things, but it’s bizarre how so much of the map remains closed off ….expecially as it was all opened up in GW1. I’m just suprised that there has not even been a minute squeak about what they plan to do with these maps.
Koheler should be interesting with less experienced groups lol. I like the contrast of oh “we don’t want you to skip mobs and bosses but we are going to give you even less incentive to them now than ever before!” Yay!
"
Same thing with dungeons – right now if you have a lot of AoE you can past encounters by just spamming AoE which is not what we want."
LOl.. What happened to playing the game the way we want to play it? I would also love to hear specific examples of how AOE gets you past encounters by simply spamming it…and anyways, if it doens’t do that..whats the point of it? Honestly….This single move to the game could cause as big an uproar as that hideous Lost Shores Patch
How is retuning considered new content? While all these things apart from the aoe nerfs seem positive, for the PVE player there doesn’t seem to be much on the horizon at all. I could care less about W v W or pvp leaderboards which very much seems to the focus on these upcoming updates. I care about PVE, environments, lore, new enemies and exploring maps and dungeons. So far and correct me if I’m wrong, but there has been ZERO mention about any actual unseen new content in this style as of yet. Maybe they are saving the best till last Idk..but so far, I remain apathetic about what I’ve read.
“LF2M, Full exotic only, link all gear, EXPERIENCED ONLY OR KICK, Magic Find GTFO”
That looks like most lfgs in GW1 elite mission hubs.
We’ll see if it’ll turn to this soon.
It will be even worse than that..LFG only warrior guardian and mesmer any one else f off
So far all I see are fixes and arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic style updates to the core game and introduction of some really bad ideas like aoe nerfs and no ressing at wp in dungeons. But what about actual NEW content? When 40% of the map if not more has yet to be unveiled and practically zero end game, when will you be introducing some new maps, enemies, dungeons? When can we expect to go to Magumma or Crystal desert?
Fixing a broken game is not what I would describe “an expansions” worth of content, but simply patches. Where is the actual new stuff?
A dreadfull idea..simply dreadfull. I lvoe the way how they say we want you to play the game your way but you are playing it a way we don’t like lol hypocrites. So many classes need BUFFS not nerfs..How the heck is nerfing aoe’s going to do anything than damage already gimped classes like necros for example and staff eles?
Plus not everyone plays W v W..I only do PVE yet I will be punished cos of aoe damage in w v w..nice job. Just remember ESO is coming up soon.. I would really think about what you do to alienate your players or else you are in great danger of being the next swtor…
LOL What a TERRIBAD idea. Can’t wait to see how this works out on COF path 2 and Subject Alpha. Honestly, instead of punishing players and stacking the odds against them you should be introducing MORE waypoints…instead of forcing people to run back ages for no good reason other than wasting time. This and the AOE nerfs are two awful awful ideas and you should really rethink them before going live.
I’m honestly not suprised that people skip so much. Personally I tend to do Kohler as much as I can because he is one fo the few examples where it is actually worthwhile to kill him. I also LOVE the Troll vs Him fight and I don’t see it as an exploit but something that adds some humour and atmosphere to that dungeon. Frankly I wish there were more instances where this kind of thing happened in the dungeons.
But the main reason I don’t mind skipping really doesn’t have much to do with the terrible loot drops but more because things always feel stacked against you. For exampl..mobs can knock you off cliff edges thus wiping you..yet you can’t do the same to them?? Why not? You could in TOR and it added a level of strategy and fun to fights. Scavengers in AC can knock you down and keep hitting u until you are dead and you can’t get up….That is not fun and it’s not fair. Far too many mobs go invulnerable…It totally takes you out of the atmosphere of the fight and you rarely feel like you are playing with a full hand.
Plus some of the boss fights are just the worst bosses I have ever played in my entire gaming career. It’s been noted that so many of them are just enormous HP with little else of interest and more often or not you are punished terribly in ways of one shots or massive aoe damage. IS it really any wonder why people are using the scenary and stuff to try and gain a little advantage? I honestly hope the dungeons are thoroughly revised but given the extremely fluffy and vague details of today, I really don’t hold out much hope.
Because they are basically troll threads and guaranteed to get lots of attention. I can’t think for the life of me why any rational person would want to fight every single mob in a dungeon given how op most silvers are. People know that skipping is extremely common and they are just looking for attention and putting the cat among the pigeons. It is in essence classic, simple trolling at its worst.
I did love the skill capping..especially gathering Elites. It made you explore the world a lot more. Ironically such a system would have been great for GW2 because it would force people into different zones and the population to be more spread out, thus negating to an extent complaints of barren areas.
Do dusk and dawn sell quickly on the tp? Im very very tempted to sell my dawn
Hey thanks. So to get the precursor, can it be done with rares at all or do you have to use exotics?
Well Warriors just got a buff to Range, so there’s that.
You can just run as a Range Warrior. You do more damage with a Bow than a Ranger does or use a Rifle and Snipe people for 10-20k damage.
EVERYONE does more damage than a Ranger does, no matter the weapon :p
Really? WOw thats a shame..How could a warrior with a bow do more damage than a ranger with a bow..doesn’t seem right :|
I really think people just want to see Ascended gear (a notion of ever increasing Stat-Based Progression) removed from the game and thrown back into the closet of bad ideas never to return.
This is what I am more or less seeing.
I’m seeing people the complete opposite to be honest. Lion’s Arch has been completley taken over by spam lfg by people trying to get the mats and drops from fractals….all for better stats.
Am I right in thinking that you simply get 4 random rares and then combine them in the mystic forge? And its just random what you get? Can you influence the type of precursor it will be by the type of weapons you combine?
If I wanted to grind for bifrost, how can I try to maximise my chances in the Mystic forge? Thankyou
Mitch, I’m talking about all the alarmists in the AMA thread.
Yup…and most of them are all out there grinding the new fractals. People threaten to leave and scream the house down, but deep inside they want those ascended rings. They NEED those rings…
Well considering that 10,000 post hread about the disaster that was the lost Shores weekend now seems to have disappated, I’d say people have moved on. Don’t forget all the crying was BEFORE they launched fractals….Now everything is all about lfg (pick you difficulty) fractals spam in LA. People moan, but they secretly love grinding the new gear
The Scret World..There is no levelling
Hello Mitch,
I am sorry you are having trouble overcoming some of the encounters within the Fractals. Allow me to give you some pointers that might help you overcome your obstacles.
The Dredge Suit Boss, while being a bit beefy is not ‘immune’ to damage when he is not Superheated. He just takes normal damage during that time. The superheated buff lasts for quite a good amount of time, and allows for ample time to move him to the next bucket.. To achieve this easier.. have your team stay in the 180 degree arc you wish to go in. The bombs he throws can be reflects as well. If you have the ability to do such within your class.
As far as the Colossus, I assume you mean Cliffside, which the chest seal gave a team I was running with quite some difficult as well. So we developed a strategy.. We allowed 2 people to be the hammer switchers, and we clumped up to the left of the seal just outside of fire burn reach.. We would kill the heretics and then the hammer weilder would charge in, smack 4, then run back to the group and drop the hammer.. then the next guy would grab the hammer and do it again.. Then switching back and forth as stacks dropped for those two.. With the others running cover.. Talking with your group is the step to overcoming these encounters…
As for the Swamp issue as really the only thing I can tell you there would be to use a speed boost and jump often.
I hope these tips will help you in your travels.
Good Luck
Bah..maybe I just had a bad pug…..But I simply didn’t really enjoy the mechanics…I hope we aren’t going to be forced to grind this place for ascended gear and that there will be other options…
What are u talking about select difficulty??
Swamp…. No really- that fractural can be removed from the kitten game. On a serious note- Either Kitty Asura Cube area or the Volcano Stage…. I’ve done the collusus way too many times to enjoy it and when running it with new people it gets even more frustrating.
People wanted harder things.Anet listened and we got what comunity wanted. Now people complain it’s too difficult.Gosh give it time.
Who wanted harder things??? Really? The forums have been ablaze for weeks about how dungeons are a haphazard mess with little or no reward for hours of labour. Quit trolling
Harldy whining. I love a challenge but taking a dump on you from a height when your hands are tied is not a challenge. Inserting a tree to block your path as u have 4 seconds to put an orb in is not a challenge..thats just cheap. That dredge fight in particular is about as unfun as it could be…..This whole event has been a total disaster
