I have got to give this guy some credit.

However you may feel about the change itself, this is actually pretty solid community interaction.

But it’s not a solid answer. The question is WHY do this? If Dungeons were infact, very popular, why try to force players to other parts of the game? Whn not actually put resources into new dungeons. So much for “play your way”.

The “community interaction” you speak of is basically:

We are doing this, just cos…..

Wow, so your logic is to disuade people from doing stuff they like into stuff they don’t?

I don’t know if you guys ever thought about this, but if Dungeons were so popular, instead of removing content and incentive from the game, why not focus MORE on dungeons if that’s what people want?

Well, all I can say is, it’s your game, your rules. But also my choice which game I put my time and money into. I’ve literally never seen a developer go out of their way to sabotage their own game.

Baffling.

Because complaining about something you clearly did not understand well enough to succeed is spreading misinformation.

And saying things like
“By the end of the first week, you’ll be able to go in with 10 necros and faceroll it lol” Can’t wait to see that. The condition damage + overall damage to kill him before the enrage timer hit can’t be done by 10 necros.
“There is no cutscene or drama or build up to the boss….fair enough”
Removed for the beta for spoilers.
“And apparently the first kill was done with 9 zerkers”
5 Berserker, 4 Rabid, 1 Cleric

Sweet Jesus, it was a facetious comment…..Something YOU didn’t understand obviously. Face Palm….

You sound like you haven’t killed the first*** boss, not final – as you stated.
cough example of misinformation cough

And you haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about considering it was very easy to get 10 randoms eager to try out the new raid.

There are 4 mobs. 3 are mini bosses or apparently being labelled trash, but whatever. The first 3 trash were easy to kill and were typical Anet sponge bags. I was a healing druid. I think one person was downed throughout red, green and blue.

Then we had 3 dc’s and for whatever reason we could not replace them as it wouldn’t let anyone in. Maybe it was a bug I don’t know. Other players have said they were able to replace people.

Anyways. We had a go at the final boss and ending up wiping. My criticism isn’t really aimed at the difficulty of the final boss, although it certainly felt very beatable; more the overall inspid and predictable feel of the whole encounter.

But that isn’t really what annoyed me most of all. I just felt the whole instance felt static and lifeless. There was no sense of wonder or awe, or “oh wow we are in the raid!”. You have the 3 coloured Guardians all stacked behind each other in an extremely bland environment. Compare this setting to the majesty of verdant brinks itself and it’s hard to not feel a little disappointed. The trash/mini bosses all have extremely awkward animations and move like they are walking in tar.

I was also irritated by the way we all had to swap from power to condi and back again too, made even more exasperating that you cannot save BUILDS AND GEAR. Honestly, 3 years down the line and you cannot do this simple and much demanded feature that is standard in every AAA mmo??

So yes, i did try it and was extremely disappointed with it. As I have said previously, beating the boss won’t make me suddenly enjoy it more, and I will beat it. No doubt it will be more of a feeling of ok, glad that chore is gone rather than any sense of accomplishment.

There are bigger issues at play than the basic boss or its mechanics. When TA Ather path feels more like a raid than your raid, there is a problem.

Just my opinion.

Interesting how you lock threads that criticise the raid yet keep open threads praising it.

That won’t make the raid any better anet.

There’s plenty of threads open with constructive criticism. Threads that start to treat the devs as subhuman deserve to be locked.

At the end of the day, you still need to remember that there are actual human beings putting in long hours to create and update this game. That doesn’t mean you have to worship them or praise everything they do, but it does mean you should be at least somewhat tactful with expressing your criticisms.

Subhuman? Please quote where anything that was said that could possibly qualify for such a ridiculous assertion.

Describing the raid as feeble is hardly “subhuman”. Have a word with yourself.

It hasn’t been positively received with everyone, but you lock those threads. I’m surprised you aren’t concerned that one random group beat your first raid boss on the first weekend!

Thats because people who haven’t actually done it are complaining about stuff they don’t know, they spread misinformation and should actually wait until they kill it before giving an opinion that’s flawed.

What’s not to know? What misinformation is being spread? Why do I have to kill the boss to be able to comment on the mechanics, the design and environment? I’ve fought the final boss. Does killing it suddenly make it better? Intriguing theory. Does getting to the end of a bad film, suddenly make that film extremely watchable?

Take some self awareness classes . please.

It is ironic that the people who’ve actually beaten the raid boss found it fun and are looking forward to more whereas the most vocal people that complain about it are either people who haven’t even bought the expansion let alone try it, or people that claim it to be boring and too easy yet haven’t even completed it once.

That really isn’t irony. Look it up. I have the exp. I paid 100 bucks for it. Beating it won’t make one bit of difference to whetehr the fight is “fun” or not.

Those that have probably have a shorterm feelgood about beating the first boss of the raid in BETA…

I don’t know why this isn’t sinking in. Should they have been able to beat the boss this easily? So much for challenging content lol

Oh, so you haven’t even finished the encounter and yet you complain about how extremely bad and easy it is?

As for the first kill: No it was not 9 zerkers. It was a bunch of zerkers, a bunch of sinisters and a cleric.

If you read the thread..we had 3 dc’s. And yes it felt extremely easy. And apparently it was 6 zerkers and 3 sinisters.. I stand corrected LOL

Whether we finished it or not is irrelevant. That is not my point. The fight itself is boring and the instance is underwhelming. “Beating” the last boss is not going to change that ONE bit.

No I didn’t finish it. I thought that was quite clear in my opening post. But I fail to see how that would have made it better? The most telling thing is after ONE attempt at it, I really had no impulse or desire to go in with a different group after because if found the whole thing so utterly tiresome.

Why are you being hostile? You can’t blame me for thinking you didn’t attempt the boss when your criticism didn’t go that far.

So, what do you suggest is done differently? Do you have anything constructive to say other than “I personally dislike this”. I can’t take your opinion seriously when your arguments boil down to “This has been done before” and “This is boring”.

Maybe you could say something like: “I think the instance was uninteresting story wise. I think they should have more NPCs talking about what’s going on rather than putting the lore in NPC dialogue boxes and notes.”

or, “The boss mechanics aren’t very interesting, maybe when phase 2 starts the RBG guardians could have a new mechanic that they didn’t have before.”

Because your reply was condescending and patronising. Well, to take your points on board, these are what I thought was subpar:

You get in. There is no cutscene or drama or build up to the boss….fair enough. No explanation as to why you are there or what the purpose is. Then the 3 mini "trash bosses’ Are all just stood there standing behind each other. There is no sense of occasion, no atmosphere, no awe. It’s literally are u ready guys? Yeah let’s go.

Then you faceroll all the 3 trash dudes..except one cannot be hit by power means and only suffers condi. So in this respect we had to go through the awkward and fumbly aspect of reequipping condi builds and weapons, made extra annoying by the fact you CANNOT save builds. And then u get to the proper boss..and ..er that’s it? He’s a combo of the 3 that went before, but you have to admit if it’s been downed in BETA, that is not a good sign. It took people a good week or two weeks I think to down the redisgned teq from memory? And that was an organised guild.

When I first saw the MArrionette, I was like ok..this is good. Doesn’t quite erase the awfulness of Scarlett but its good..it;s unique. The Guardian fight is dull. The boss itself is dull, the mechanics are dull, the environment is dull. I’m not sure what else I can say.

I HOPE the the rest of the wings have a bit more invention about them.

I still don’t think you even played the content; the only comment you’ve made on the actual boss was that he looks uninteresting. What about the mechanics of the fight? Can’t you construct some better criticism? Be more detailed.

Yes I did. And no offence “Malthurius”, but what you think of what I have accomplished is of no relevance to me. Yes I commented on the design of the boss. But it’s a mechanic that has been done SOOOO many times..especially by wow. A build up of 3 “mini bosses” ..oh wait…“trash” bosses and the final guy has all their powers. With ooh crap..if you don’t stand in the aoe circle in time u all wipe.

Is that good enough for you? It was underwhelming, predictable and felt like something that had been done literally DOZENS of times before.

Look, it’s just my first human reaction. I thought it would be better. I thought I’d be more impressed. I’ve been playing games since the C64 days. Look that up if you don’t know what it is. I adore GW2. I just thought that the raid would be more exciting than it is.

And I don’t by “oh it’s the first boss”. So what. Do you go to a restaurant and have a 3 course meal and excuse a really subpar starter in the event that the “main meal” will be better? No. You expect excellence throughout.

If you thought it was great, that;s lovely; your choice. But don’t bail on me for being disappointed.

You have called the first three trash mobs mini bosses several times in this thread. So clearly you still think they are mini bosses rather than trash mobs.

And once again: Take the very first boss in any of the WoW dungeons and compare. Are they really so much better than this? And if they are: How are they better?

Semantics. They are all u fight until you get to the last guy. So I personally labelled them as mini bosses.

In wow, there is a build up..In SWtor, there is a build up..there is atmosphere. I LOVE Verdant brink..Im excited for the expansion. My first human reaction to the raid was oh wow…this is…..so disappointing. Sorry if you don’t like that.

Ah yes, how dare three trashmobs (which is basically what the first three are) be easy?

You are also talking about a SINGLE boss in the FIRST wing of the first raid. They are not going to add in more or less impossible to do fights as the very first showing of a raid.

Oh, and btw: How many of the raids in Blizzard have more or less impossible first fights?

This is a beta and the first ever GW2 Raid. First impressions count. Stop making excuses for utter mediocrity. There was no atmosphere, not sense of occasion or explanation of what it was all about.

The final boss itself is such an insipid design, I was actually gasping at how average the whole thing felt. Remember when you first saw the drama of the Marrionette or even the colossus in fractals. There is NONE of that here.

Anet themselves have already done much better work. UW, FOW, the DEEP< Several Fractals and living story instances. Not to mention world bosses like Teq or the wurm.

For the flagship “endgame” content, this simply is subpar. That is the truth. Ya’ll can dress it up and make all the excuses of the day, but personally I’m gutted. I adore the game. I really really expected better than this.

There is a reason Blizzard have remained at the top wioth MMO’s. Because on first impressions, this “raid” was one of the most embarrassing and feeble attempts at a raid I have ever seen in all my years of playing MMO’s. Even Bioware has done a much better job with SWTOR raiding than this attempt.

First impressions count for a lot and my initial excitement turned to rapid disappointment when on entering, you basically start taking on the 3 mini bosses and I was thinking…is this it? Firstly, the design of the bosses is beyond subpar…3 glowy guys that look like they run in tar.. Great. We facerolled them easy and got to the final boss.

We were having a good go at it until 3 people dc’d and could not join rejoin us. Have you learnt NOTHING from fractals or dungeons? If people leave or dc, we NEED to be able to invite other people in. I don’t know if this is a bug or as intended , but either way it’s a terrible flaw. Also, as a druid, I didn’t even now whether I was making a real difference with my healing or not.. It all felt sloppy and haphazard.

It all felt so dated, slow and utterly boring. Even the Molten fractal and the Marrionette felt more like a raid than this.

I honestly don’t understand how such an amazing and talented team of artists and designers could possibly think this was good enough. That’s my honest opinion.

Since I don’t see it being asked and maybe this question is misplaced, but did anyone work down the wyvern’s breakbar, Mitch?

If not, it is definitely one of the big problems with GW2 that is still to be addressed is people simply do not realize that there are descriptors below the mobs HP bar that describe unique traits/mechanics of that mob. I’ve seen countless times where players will just blindly hit at something, waiting for it to die, only for that mob to stand there and laugh at the player who can’t read the descriptor, for example “mob is invulnerable until you move it off this spot”. They’ll simply get bored, think it’s bugged, and move on. But those descriptors need to be called out better on the interface.

Once again, may not be the case in this situation, but it is something that I see hasn’t been addressed in these 3 years and I feel ANET have simply taken the “you can’t fix stupid” approach.

I don’t know mingus.. But it was a double edged sword. On initital impression..I was like, ok, this is cool. Sort of like when u meet a dragon for the first time in Dragons Age Inquisition. But the fight just went on FOREVER.

You literally cannot create a battle worn character or say someone with African or Black features. Everyone also looks about 19. Even Even GW1 had more variety in PRE made faces.

So far I am impressed. It feels sufficiently different from the base form of ranger in the way that Reaper does from Necro and the skills look impressive if a bit too “wow” inspired.

However, I am a bit worried that the major focus on healing is going to bring us back to the days of GW1 where you could spend 30 mins to an hour looking for a healer for a group. It’s pretty clear that healing IS going to be a thing in HOT otherwise they would not have focused so much on it with this Elite.

While everything Zerk is a flawed mechanic, going back to the old days of waiting around for specific classes feels like a backstep. Hopefully it will not be quite so literal as it looks.

Recently. With the LA rebuild. When the new LA was added a scavenger hunt was included which rewards Princess.

There’s a third item, called the Star of Gratitude, that consumes Empyreal Fragments, but it’s a Wintersday thing, iirc.

I think that is one of the things that annoys me about in game communication. I simply would not have known all of this until you guys told me. I would have loved the chance to get the star.

Communication goes both ways. If you dont read patch notes, you wont learn about new stuff being introduced unless someone else tells you.

Well….I know this might be a novel idea…but maybe they could actually communicate this IN the game? Without people trawling through patch notes?

Original thinking I know. Try it sometime….

Or you know, when we get a huge new patch look through your achievements and see what’s new? There are several new achievements that were added with the New Lion’s Arch.

You know, looking at what’s new in game. it’s a thing. try it sometime.

So getting an item that eats ore, relates to achievements. I mean who would have thunk it right? So I guess the next time I get a random armour skin, I should automatically check my achievement panel to see if it unlocks a secret cave that gives me free pre legendaries right?

Because it makes about as much sense. Commons sense. Look it up on wiki. It’s a thing. try it sometime.
