I thought they were supposed to be a choice; optional. But, you are severely hobbling yourself by not traiting in them. The majority of them are so op or far to strong compared to the originals, you’d be crazy not to spec..especially if you are a Guard, Reaper or Chrono.
The irony in that giving us more “choice” they actually gave us less lol.
Look, I’m probably making a fuss over nothing.. I just saw the group and found myself rolling my eyes and sighing.
But anyways, I’m just gonna do my own thing because it really is not worth worrying over.
IllegalChocolate, Raids have the potential to be much worse though simply because of the time invested in them. There is a hell of a big difference between runnign a 10 minute dungeon and wiping for 4 hours in a Raid. Tempers can get extremely frayed….
Well it’s just I saw this type of thing happen in WOW. I remember the day I decided to quit wow was when we spent 4 hours raiding one sunday and our raid leader lost it at this hunter over vent for dying. The Hunter was a sweet guy in his 40’s and I felt very bad for him.
Just don’t want that kind of mentality to inflict this game. However, since writing this thread, I’ve decided to just let it go. I’m not goign to let raiding in a game annoy me again. Like I said earlier, at least you don;t get better gear. One saving grace.
Already seeing it in my fairly friendly guild. A secret core “raid” group going in for a few nights in a row, not asking anyone else if they want to come. Seen this repeated in all the guilds I’m a member of.
Thank God they don;t actually drop gear with higher stats is all I can say.
this is not a trinity game
its been left open as to what will generate threat/equivalent in future content and i hope the devs take advantage of that design space to make fights interesting. toughness will get stale after a while.
It’s rapidly turning into it though. Anyone with highest toughness is automatically the “tank”…add in the druid healers. I saw some guildies spend liek 4 hours in spirit vale the other night..on the first boss.
Reminded me of everything I hated about WOW. Sigh
HOW do i see the breakdown of all this individual damage from conditions? Anyone pls?
That thing really surprised me and now im trying to understand how is that even possible.
How do you guys access this breakdown??
why are people always asking for stuff to be removed???? They’ve removed enough stuff as it it!
And no, I like Skyhammer…Risk of falling???
God get better for heavens sake
1) – Medi Trapper Dh
Everythign else way below
So is it removed from the game totally???
There’s actually a LOT more than i thought. Thanks very much Dulfy. Excellent work as always. Btw, slightly off topic but I noticed that your coin collecter guide in Drytop does not much the numbers given to them in GW2 achievement list. Just wondered if there were any plans to update this?
Why do people who try and get you to watch their videos continue to make them unwatchable by adding the most annoying music ever?
One word for you:
Dodge.
If you still can’t figure it out – Arken has a video you should watch.
You get 2 dodges and and an endurance bar. This means that you cannot dodge every assault that comes your way. If you didn’t know this, check out Arkens video.
I wanted to make this forum post for a while.. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone over at Arenanet..
How are you not banned yet given your appalling treatment towards that thief. I saw those screen caps and what you said was totally unnecessary and disgusting.
So is this post a precursor to ANet to kiss their butt so as you don’t get banned?
You mean an elite spec is better than a generic one? No way! Druids heal better than Guardians, nerf Druids plz!
If only Rangers had a pet to set off the traps. Why would you even be close enough anyways? Ranger longbow has a longer range than DH, send in pet, stay out of range, rapid fire, pew pew. Easy peasy.
Seriously, what is it with Rangers and bad players? It seems like half the complaining on this board is from Rangers.
Send in pet to what? an empty point that has no one there except 3 dh traps that u don’t see? You know that rangers have other weapons than Longbow right? You know that elite specs are not supposed to overcome the regular ones right? It’s an “alternative” spec. Odd how people take the name so literally.
(edited by Mitch.4781)
oh look another generic whiner who cant counter a dh what a surprise seriously do research and learn to counter instead brainlessly whining DH is too strong wah wah wah.
Oh look another armchair warrior who complains about the complainers. Shut up
Seriosuly..They make MUCH better trap rangers than ranger. It’s ridiculous. I literally could not kill them tonight on my own trap ranger…They have extremely powerful traps, including an ELITE trap that rangers don’t even have and then they have all the usual blocks and buffs a guardian brings.
It’s ridiculously op in pvp. Either buff the other classes or tone down the strength of their traps and lb.
The CoF farm hardly classifies as “doing dungeons” =P
It’s farming in the dungeon. The original intent was to disuade people from the dungeons. The complete opposite has happened. The point remains.
People don’t farm in CoF because they want to complete the dungeon, they do it because they can run in circles and hit infinitely re-spawning mobs.
WOW, You don’t say? -_-
Er I know……It’s irrelevant they are getting NO loot, they are inside a 3 year old dungeon farming the content for xp when they should be playing the shiny new expansion. I don’t know what part of this you cannot seem to grasp?
Why are you even arguing? lol
Why are you trying to tell people how to spend their time? You’re in no place to say people should be spending X time inside Y area.
Your first post was the “irony” on dungeon nerf, and the dungeon nerf- is irrelevant. Dungeons were nerfed due to economic reasons, and CoF has 0 effect on the economy.
I feel like your original post was to argue as to why dungeons shouldn’t have been nerfed(Which I agree) however, your post made absolutely 0 argument, and made you look dumb so now you’re back tracking onto how “people shouldn’t spend time there”
Seriously? Did you actually read what I said? Firstly, I never said a thing about where people should be spending their time. ANET did. I personally couldn’t give a TOSS where people spend their time. If they want to spend hours farming the same mobs over and over in Cof, then good luck, because it’s absolutely mind numbing. I couldn’t do it.
We have a brand new expansion, anet wanted to disuade people from playign old stuff like dungeons and play their shiny new add on. Result is people farming old stuff for masteries. It’s pretty black n white.
When you actually understand the very simple and straightforward point that was made, then we can talk about who is “dumb”.
Another irony lol.
The difference is that the current COF “farm” is that it is finite – once all the masteries are complete, it’s done. At which point they go merrily on their way.
Previously, there was no discernible end despite diminishing returns.
Yup. Still funny though. Plus, as soon as one batch of players cap their masteries another will need levelling. There will be quite a bit of Cof Farmign for a while yet, until either Anet nerfs the mobs xp or people get bored of it or find a new , even quicker farming patch.
The CoF farm hardly classifies as “doing dungeons” =P
It’s farming in the dungeon. The original intent was to disuade people from the dungeons. The complete opposite has happened. The point remains.
Except, you’re point doesn’t really remain at all- because CoF Mastery gives 0 loot, or gold. whereas a full dungeon run could yield upwards to 60g+ daily.
Except it does remain. I think you missed the original “point”. As I said to the previous poster, it’s irrelevant they are getting no loot. People are spending HOURS inside cof farming the mobs by the beacons for xp for masteries. Meanwhile, events and the meta events in the brand new expansion fail, or there are not enough people to do them because everyone is in COF lol.
That is the original point. i just find it funny we have all this brand new content and Anet didn;t want people to play the old dungeons but now they are playing them more than ever. It’s got nothing to do with gold or rewards. It’s amazing the amount of people that jump the gun and argue for no reason without a basic understanding of what’s being said.

CoF Mastery Farm doesn’t effect the economy.
It’s still funny though that instead of playing the new content , everyones in farming a 3 year old dungeon….
The Bahamas? Wouldn;t she have went to Southsun for a Karka kittentail?
Don’t you think it is a delicous irony that with this patch, Anet wanted to disuade and disincentivise people from doing dungeons yet more people are doing them than ever for the mastery farming!!
I just find the whole thing hilarious. Look on the lfg, and it’s FULL of people lfm Cof Farm lmao! yet try and get a group to do big events in Auric Basin or DS and GOOD LUCK!
Yeh would be cool to see this test against the Svanir or another moving test target in the pvp lobby.
great post. I love rangers so much i have 2. Sad to see the Bears down so low though. Kinda funny how an Owl out dps’s a Polar Bear!! I use the drakes mostly with wolf and moa in pvp.
I’m reluctant to use the bristleback although he’s clearly good, simply because everyone else does.
While both of the halls are visually interesting, they are not actually very good as Guild Halls lol. Both of them are massive, ergo don’t feel like a “hall” or a structure. They feel like we stumbled upon some bit of land or caves and decided to squat there. It’s not like we have claimed a fort type thing, which I supposed I resonate with Guild Halls.
Also as actual halls, they are really only good for meeting in. Certainly QD, Ebonhawke and Rata Sum are FAR more convenient for crafting, tp and banks.
However, I DID love doing the claiming missions. The bosses in there are so much cooler than the Guardian boss in the raid Beta I played. Is there a way this claim could be part of weekly guild missions?
In what univserse does having to take time to do something equals a challenge?
Driving a formula 1 car around a track for one lap is a challenge.
Driving a toyota on a 10 hour car journey is a chore.
That depends. If you’re driving your Toyota through beautiful scenary and stopping off at nice places on the way, it’s not so much of a chore……. Hot works in pretty much the same way.
It’s been a weekend. It’s far too early to tell. So far the biggest complaints revolve around the gating of story and the hp requirements for elite specialisations.
Will there be revisions and tweaks? Absolutley. But I don’t get this sky is falling attitude with some of the commentators here. It’s been 3 days lol! Wait until the dust settles and people work everything out. Remember the tears at the revised Teq fight? Now people have it on farm.
It’s so people would be forced to play the horrible new content.
GW2’s core game was a fun, casual friendly experience.
Were soloing your story quests was simple, with plenty of WPs and exp to get to cap.
HOT thou? It has mob density that all but forces a group just to get to the few and far inbetween WPs, HPs that spawns champions require masteries or are guarded by groups of vets, events that spawn all over the place with enough mobs to eat you alive in seconds.
The mobs in HOT exist in 3 forms: does large area damage, knocks downs, does large aoe damage and knocks down.
I tackled the new content with Cavalier armor on, I’ll try Sentinel next because Cavalier is simply not enough to survive in HOT, but then again I get the feeling HOT is not meant to be soloable since not only do the mobs hit hard enough to kill you very quickly they also have plenty of hit points and vets are plentiful.
Are mobs currently over tuned? Should I stop trying to solo my story line?
All in all HOT feels like an entirely different game from GW2, it’s more like a hardcore “die at the 1st mistake” kind of game then the casual friendly game I liked…
Very disappointed in the new content, I’ll do it once to know the story then never again.
This is rather amusing. I’ve been playing it all weekend on my Zerk Ranger without even unlocking Druid. The only thing that’s been killing me mainly is over stepping a spot to land with my glider and i end up plummeting to the vines. Other than Champ Mobs on Hero points, I really haven’t been troubled at all.
What class are you using, what utlilities? Not sure what to say really, but get better?
Did ANET anticipate this??? It’s pretty funny. People are farming COF mobs to level their Tyria masteries..I already see a lot of high level guys running around. I at least understand now why they wanted to nerf dungeons. Odd thing is, they nerfed the wrong stuff lol.
Bizzare they would respond to such a weird request.
Seriously. Although i’m not a massive fan of the story and hero point gating, one cannot help but be impressed by the love that has went into the maps, mobs, and sheer creativity.
I think it was worth every penny and you guys have even upped standards on story telling. I actually WANT to know whats going to happen.
Excellent work.
Have to say…well done anet. Yes I was very critical of the first boss fight in the raid in beta, but the main expansion is brilliant. I have had a LOT of fun today playing the new maps and trying different things out.
Crtiticims, yes I agree the masteries are too grindy. You could have played it better there. But the artistry , design, atmosphere and sheer love that has went into this expansion should be applauded. I tip my hat off to you all. Very well done to such a talented team and I just HOPE you guys keep on performing. We love this game and we are rooting for you.
Well done Arenanet
Yeah I know you have to get the xp, but actually clicking and levelling up the points..Its not very clear or I’m just not getting it.
Someoen Please :| Because I have points that I can’t seem to use. How exactly do they work?
Hopefully they aren’t lazy and animate the hair like original hairstyles. I particularly hate seeing those wooden looking pony tails from some of the newer hairstyle updates.
I have no idea how long it’ll take, true.
Mitch, they took 3 years because they had to change direction. Originally there wasn’t supposed to be xpacs for gw2. They wanted to accomplish all of that with Living Story. So it’s not exactly so simple as what you make it to be.
Well, I never said it was simple. I just said there hasn’t been much content compared to other MMO’s, for whatever reason and that’s pretty much a fact. And if they “had to change direction”, who is to say they won’t have to again?
I will make a prediction that they will go back to the monthly updates, but these will be things like, here is an extra wing or boss of the raid. I wouldn’t expect to see any non HOT related content at all next year. Will that be enough? Who knows.
What most people don’t seem to realise or are ignoring is that there will probably not be more new content for a very long time. ANET will milk and drag out every minute of HOT until we have all done it to death, just like todays dungeons.
The precedent has already been set. Look at the amount of content this game has received in 3 years and compare it to other leading mmo’s.
Are you really surprised you have to grind hero points?? All the signs were there.
The problem I had when i played druid in a raid was it was difficult to see if my heals were helping or not, given that everyone can heal themselves anyways. Also, you couldn;t directly target a name and heal them if u needed an emergency heal.
I’ve never been kicked for being ranger or necro. I always wonder about these stories and feel that those who HAVE been kicked are often not giving the full picture…..
Silk seems easier to aquire than wool, cotten or linen.
Probably Tengu! Oh wait….
I have got to give this guy some credit.
However you may feel about the change itself, this is actually pretty solid community interaction. But it’s not a solid answer. The question is WHY do this? If Dungeons were infact, very popular, why try to force players to other parts of the game? Whn not actually put resources into new dungeons. So much for “play your way”.
The “community interaction” you speak of is basically:
We are doing this, just cos…..
Except OP didn’t post a question asking WHY. He posted questions asking Are you doing this, Is this happening. Is that happening. All which were answered thoroughly.
Fair enough but it is blindingly obvious 95% of people would want to know why. He gave a one worded answer to a pretty kitten good question, that required a much more elaborate response. It may be “communtiy interaction”, but it it isn’t good or informative.
Yes, not having the brains to think to oneself that maybe I should explain what I mean here is in fact being ignorant.
We aren’t telepathic or mind readers. I’ts in our basic human nature to query and question, especially when given an extremely unsatisfactory response. It’s a rather simple and acceptable request. Are you satisfied with one word answers in every facet of your daily life? If so, that is true ignorance.
I see this as an attempt to funnel players into the content that the developers have chosen to push. Raids and fractals are what the developers want you to play and this is a way to punish those who don’t choose to follow along.
That’s why this change makes even LESS sense. HOT will be brand new teaming with new content, maps, legendaries, events raids, armours etc etc. EVERYONE is going to be in there and the original maps will be barren. Groups for SW, ORR Temples and yes dungeons will already be harder to get because people will be far too busy with the new content.
So why dissuade people from old maps and content UNLESS, you really are not that satisfied they will like the new stuff? Is the new content that lacklustre you need to force people into it? Worrying thinking behind all of this.
It’s one of the most bizarre decisions I’ve even seen a dev make, especially right on top of a brand new expansion.
The gold rewards are going down to disincentivize running easy paths for gold. People will continue to play dungeons for tokens, and if the drops are improved – people might even kill things in dungeons instead of skipping to the boss.
The drops won’t be improved though. Also, they’ve already said they are nerfing what matts you get from salvaging!!!!
GRIND WARS 2!!!!!!!
I have got to give this guy some credit.
