Get Rid of Precursor Crafting: Problem Solved

This discussion hinges on one thing: how you define the ‘legendary weapons’ problem.

Firstly, I think Anet implemented crafting because they thought it’s what players wanted, otherwise they wouldn’t have done anything and just made new precursors and recipes for new legendaries with the old process.

Secondly, I don’t always believe that players know what they want or are honest about what they want. I really don’t think the majority of people wanted anything but an easier/cheaper/faster way to get a Legendary weapon and pushed the idea of crafting as a way to get that, being naive thinking it would give them the easier/cheaper/faster way they desired.

Therefore, I think the situation we are in, no one wins. Anet wasted lots of time implementing something players told them they wanted but didn’t and increased the work needed to make new legendaries.

I’m with the OP, conceptually. I think future development on new Legendary weapons should just go away, for good though. They little function beyond their Ascended weapon cousins and cosmetically, are unique because of footfalls, but not visual effects.

I think the solution is to offer ways to ‘earn’ the effects that Legendary weapon give and apply them to characters (I would love lava pools on my Condition Guardian or black holes for my theif). That’s a win IMO because it’s another level of visual customization, still gives endgame goals that legendaries do and may be a little simpler to implement for ‘earning’.

But players DID want crafting. What they didn’t want was such a complex, time consuming, hideous gold sink. They boxed themselves into this by creating such a convoluted system.

NOBODY asked for that.

See, I consider anyone that talks like that to be one of the people that fooled themselves into thinking they wanted crafting as a method to get easier/cheaper/faster way to get a Legendary weapon … because you DID get crafting.

If you wanted crafting and got it and complained about it, then there is some more significant underlying desire that doesn’t align with what Legendary crafting delivered. THAT is exactly what I’m saying when I say the the whole Legendary issue depends on how you define what’s wrong with it.

The fact that all Legendaries have been suspended pretty much says that Anet thought it wasn’t a good system, moreso than even the players.

End of story.

CLEARLY, it’s not.

Also, responding to the above, complexity is a high value factor for some MMO players. Which is why I said speak for yourself.

Yeah you’re missing the point. Clearly.

Nvm eh

I remember PAGES of old threads with people complaining about rng and how they never get a precursor.

Fact.

Players demanded a way to craft a pre.

Fact

Anet delivered a complex system

Opinion.

complex

Value neutral. Subject to taste. Subject to perception based on cognitive skills.

that now they admit didn’t work.

False

Anet delivered a complex system

I honestly don’t understand why they can’t do both. Why not revert to the old system for the remainign legendaries which would at least allow them to be IN the game and then when you have time, work towards also doing the collection. Limiting it to one or the other seems a dead end for all the reason people mentioned.

It seems to me, the best, msot cost effective and practical solution is to do both.

I think taking a long break is a a good way to get back in. I was stuck in T3-4 emerald for a week, later finally made it into sapphire, then took a 3 week break. Resetting my outlook on pvp.

I came back to a 9 game winstreak looking at it from a different perspective. (either that, all the good player base moved on or quit. Leaving easy matches?)

Main change in my play style was play to carry. And recognize which people on your team is making bad decisions. And try to counter that best way possible. I was in true MMR hell, but it is possible to climb out of that hole and end up with winstreaks.

You do realize you decayed your rating up for three weeks right?

How do you mean?

The saddest thing is that it doesn’t matter what we think. Once again Anet has mad a decision against what a lot of the playerbase wants. As usual if we don’t like it, then tough. They have a habit of doing this and then letting us wear ourselves out on the forums while they stay the course.

That is infact the point ;-)

GW1 hero’s are similar to gw2 ranger Pets only they were more customizable and much more controlable.

Well you’re asking for direct control which wasn’t in your original post and I suspect there’s a greater chance of us having 97 new legendaries before that!

I still am pretty bewildered by their decision. Also, if Anet is doing so well financially and is in a healthy state, would it hurt to hire a few more contract developers evev to just get past this hurdle?

This is what makes me think this game is not in a healthy state and there is a LOT more going on that we are not being told about.

If this game dies, then I’m done with MMO’s in general.

Poor understanding of player-base

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mitch.4781

Mitch.4781

I think ArenaNet needs a better understanding of their player-base due to the prevalence of certain type of content this game features.

For example, ArenaNet has seemingly designed this game to be played by aquatic creatures, seeing as about 1/4th of the content of this game is underwater, how I get new skills underwater, my character can breath underwater, etc.

However, my findings suggest that roughly 0% of Guild Wars 2 players are mermaids.

Please reduce the amount of underwater navigation I have to do. As a terrestrial being and not a fish, it is unnatural and disorienting. Every time I have to do something underwater, I rush as fast as possible (or log out) so that I can get back on land to continue to play my terrestrial character with my human, non-fish self.

Thank you.

They have reduced the amount of underwater content in the game. HoT areas, Drytop, and Silverwastes have 0 underwater areas, and even Southsun Cove, an island map, has 0 content beneath the waves surrounding it.

Um..Tangled Depths has an enormous underwater cavern that spans the entire width of the map nearly. Shame there is nothign to do IN it though.

Collections vs Mystic Forge

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mitch.4781

Mitch.4781

One thing that has not been explained is this. Instead of launching a massive bombshell by saying no more legendaries, because it’s too much work, why didn’t Anet do the following:

Why not release the legendaries as planned, but forgoe the collection side of things for now? That is, go back to vanilla style, getting a pre in the mystic forge and add in the collections for an alternative route later when you can allocate resources to it.

It seems such a bizarre decision to abandon all that work and create such ill feeling towards the playerbase. I’m sure the models exists for every single one of the new legendary weapons. Let’s face it you guys can produce beautiful BL sets EVERY fortnight..whole sets. What is a legendary, but a weapon with a few more animations? Heck some of the BL weapons look more legendary than legendaries!!!

If it is just the collection side of things that is causing headaches, why not do as suggested above? Also, I thought the mace was closest to being finished. It’s even worse that the last Legendary for the foreseeable future is a weapon that only TWO classes can use…and only one effectively.

Not much shakes me to the core regarding this game, but this decision makes me worry for the future of the game. There must be more to it than we are being told.

Ruby division makes people hate PvP

in PvP

Posted by: Mitch.4781

Mitch.4781

Getting ‘stuck’ in ruby is a very important topic regarding how best league should operate. We changed matchmaking to make the ladder more prestigious and so far it has done that. Divisions are aligning with skill level much better than season 1. The product of this change is that the bulk of players who hover around the middle of the mmr curve should stay in sapphire and ruby. Win rate will level out at 50% because there are plentiful players of similar mmr in the same division.

Should average players be able to climb out of the middle divisions by grinding? This removes prestige and can make matchmaking worse within a division, but always allows a sense of progression.

Should average players stay in the middle divisions because that’s where they belong at their skill level? This retains prestige and only improving skill will allow climbing, but rewards and progression stop at some point through the season.

Is there an incentive that could be added to league games for players who have reached their appropriate division and can no longer climb?

Is it really as black and white as you say? This false perception of attaining “prestige” should not over ride having fun and making people actively hate the game.

I’m stuck in sapphire. I have resigned myself to the fact that I’m unrealistically not going any further. I’m playing meta builds , doing good rotations, trying to give people common sense direction at the start of the match. Is it fair or reasonable that I then get stuck with the absolute dregs of the gw2 pvp community?

I will give you an example. Last night I was playing and a 3man premade joined our team. They said right from the bat they were going to “go to the enemy base and kill the lord”. I sighed and suggested this wasn’t a good strategy. Anyways, the end result is we lost heavily and those 3 people each scored ZERO points.

They also actually suggest I was a “noob” for playing necro and I should just “Shut up and spam wells”.

Are you honestly telling me that a player like me deserves to be joined up with people like this? It is not remotely fun or fair Evan. Something is badly wrong somewhere .

Mitch.4781

When the raid first came out , i was excited. Having been a big Raider in WOW, I expected somethign different from GW2. But unless you have a serious raiding guild or a group of raiding friends, getting in one, let alone completing it is not taken for granted.

Now we have the situation where if you don’t have “The Eternal”, pugs won’t take u, never mind if you are full vipers or ascended zerk whatever. So now with the second wing coming, those that couldn’t get the first one done are falling even more behind. Even WOW in it’s Heady gearscore and dps meter days was never this exclusive.

I read that literally only 10% of the player base has done the raid. So why is it already taking priority over fractals when fractals have had NOTHING since that asuran fractal which NO one ever does unless it lands on a daily?

I find their priorities quite startling. It’s the same with legendaries. We have 3 Legendaries yet then can knock out entire different weapon sets for the gem store on a fortnightly basis? Whats the difference with a legendary except a few more animations and effects??

Anyways, I know where I’ll be on the 8th of March and it won;t be GW2 raid..The Division. What a stunning coincidence their 2nd wing lands on this date…not.

Quality of Life Features we need

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mitch.4781

Mitch.4781

The next time they do a features update, what would you like to see?

I would like to see these, in no particular order:

1) The ability to save builds and gear.

Common sense no? It’s a feature WoW has had for years now and It’s pretty much up there as one of the most in demand features for the game.

2) The option to copy and past link’s into the chat bar.

Also another feature wow has had for years. How annoying is it if someone in the guild wants to post a youtube link to you for example and you have to type all of the html out?? This goes for anything, like Dulfy links, wiki links or metabattle.

3) Race Change option

Also another in demand feature. As for personal story, a race change would simply be like starting the story again, just as you woudl if you made a brand new toon. Except you wouldn’t be losing all your levels and gear.

4) LFG in Raid

Pretty obvious and it’s insane it was not made part of the HOT expansion in the first place.

5) The ability to advertise in lfg while in a squad

Related to the lfg for raid. Why can’t we do this?

These are my personal main 5. I’m sure you all can think of more.

January 26th Update: Your feedback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mitch.4781

Mitch.4781

For me the two things that were great were the Shatterer redo and Gliding. Shatter felt fun and not a chore. The difficulty level was fine given his actual level and where he is in the world. Overall that was a success.

The gliding in Tyria is Great, however there are significant issues that show you core Tyria was never mean’t to have this. I literally lost count of times where I hit inexplicable invisible walls, despite being in a perfect harmless place with no reason to exploit. It was particularly noticeable in the Shiverpeaks maps. Is this soemthing that could be updated through the coming weeks? It felt incredibly immersion breakign and bizarre to have to take odd detours through what look like perfectly clear flying areas. It took the shine off what is otherwise the best part of the update.

As for skill balance, I felt it was very underwhelming. It really felt like you were just shuffling the food around the plate. Ranger sword has still not been fixed despite it being consistently complained about. We do NOT want to be rooted while autoattacking. Please get rid of this. I still don’t understand why Soldiers was removed as an amulet either being as it was a core set of stats since the game launched.

regarding fractals, changing inside is good HOWEVER, there were occassions were pugs chanegd to fractal number on the fly to trick people into doing a fractal they wanted. This kittened people off a lot. Allow the changes to be made by votes or something.

But as the first update of the year it was pretty good. I personally did not think the balance chanegs where anywhere near what we were led to expect. If I could give one piece of advice to your otherwise amazingly talented team, please stop hyping things up too much; especially regarding balanncing changes. It really only leads to disappointment

Pretty obvious. Dungeons were intended to be challenging hardcore content and turned out to be easy-peasy, speed runable, soloable, sellable farming grounds.
.

And what was wrong with this? Instead of wasting time putting effort and resources into old content, they still could have created new dungeons with the experience they have learned from the game. It’s more the idea of abandoning dungeons as a concept totally I find bizzare. I literally cannot think of another single MMo that did this.
