Why people are bothered about how OTHER players get their mastery points is beyond me. This community is the absolute worst sometimes.
And why remove the little underwater cavern? It worries me that they are trying to remove underwater from the game. Removed it from the pvp map. No meaningful water encounters in HOT, not new UW weapon skins. Piece by Piece.
I love the new map, love it, but why, why WHY, do you have mobs shoot at us and then have us dazed and fall to our deaths? Yes you can stealth glide, but they can still hit you and it doesn’t last forever anyways. There is nothing fun about this at all. It’s just endlessly annoying. Infuriating. It was the same in the story with the traps that knock you down for a few seconds.
These kind of mechanics are not challenging or fun. They are simply irritating as kitten. That simple mechanic of sniping does a lot to put me off that map. Please stop relying on cheap and cheesy tactics masqueraded as “challenge”. It isn’t.
Other than that, great patch. Oh let us skip dialogue too…..PLEASE? Running through story first time is fun..3rd time hearing unskippable and long monlogues is just wasting our time. Please respect our time.
I enjoyed it a lot. The only thing that felt random was Caudecus being involved.. However, finding out that it will be Primordious as the next dragon was unexpected. that sure to mean fire islands opening up?
I think it is a bit overtuned. Personally, the balance seems a bit off. They made Mossman totally redundant, yet made Bloom insane. A little bit of moderation would have been better. Apart from anything else, it has now gone from by far the shortest fractal to the longest. I felt it went on forever.
Still. Hope you guys enjoyed your blues and greens after downing bloomy!
What a kitten poor attitude. And deleting your insights? There is just so much wrong with everything you posted.
We did it last night, admittedly at a low level to get a feel for it, and I was really underwhelmed. Infact when the fractal last boss was done, we were all asking each other, is that it?
Thematically and from a design point of view it feels old and like an extension of what we have already had for 4 years or whatever. The first brand new fractal since thermo, and it was quite frankly boring. I think players were crying out for something much fresher, maybe tied into either HOT or the White Mantle. However, as they have said they are working on new fractals concurrently, hopefully not too long till the next one.
So we no longer need anything above +9??? I’m confused as hell.
So is there a new zone or map????
One other question actually. If we need gliding for this new fractal, what will happen for the people that don’t have HOT? Will they be unable to do the new fractal?
I see jumping puzzles, disappearing floors, electrified floors, jump-the-wave type crushers (on the same stage as electrified floors, no less), and Anomaly. In other words, all the things people loved in fractals…
Oh wait.
Sadly that’s what I was thinking too. I hate to be that guy that judges it without playing it but that video just made me go from excited to feeling like..oh this looks like one i’ll be skipping then.
Anet, please stop reusing tired, dated and annoying mechanics that so many of us despise. Electrified floors and more jumping platforms? REALLY?
If they do, I hope they bother to animate them this time. Seeing the horrid wooden BL updates compared to the vanilla hairstyles that move gracefully is a real shame. Lazy cash grab.
Ok so I am really excited for LS3 and future expansions. Currently I am enjoying the heck out of the raids too and cannot wait to see what the raid team comes up with next.
Perhaps my only pet peeve right now with the game are the adventures. More directly the way that collections and mastery points are locked behind them thus making them a requirement rather than optional. Now, if I am honest, I despise every single one of them I’ve played. Every one. There was not ONE that I had any inclination to want to do again once I salvaged a silver level or got the collection item I needed. I was certainly not going to grind them to get gold. I have given up on those particular mastery points.
By all means offer chests and other rewards for doing them so that other players who like them can still get a reward or progression from it. But please, PLEASE do not lock future mastery points or collection items behind them. For me they are not fun, they are a supreme chore and at times can be rage inducing.
That is all. Other than that Roll on LS3!
(edited by Mitch.4781)
Indeed they do. They are nowhere near as popular as they used to be back in the day for obvious reasons, but since the reward revamp, they still have a consistent following. With the introduction of the elite specs, most people can clear them very quickly and even atherblade path in TA is now enjoying newfound popularity through this and the fact it drops an exotic.
Also, with people running different specs for raids etc, dungeons have become a cheap way of alternate gear sets, so for example if you are a beserker druid, you can gain a full set of magi’s pretty quickly just running dungeons without having to craft a thing.
I just wish they had not abandoned them totally. It seems like such a glaring hole in the game. Fractals doesn’t really compare as it’s a different entity. When I think back to gw1 and it’s 20+ dungeons , this just seems very sad.
30 Li is MORE than enough. I ignore any groups with stupid requests for LI. I once made the mistake of joining one where the leader had 60 li. He kept missing the green on VG.
LI is NOT a barometer of skill. It’s like the old days of people looking for 5k ap for dungeon runs. Just ignore them.
LI are an indicator of experience and not of skill. You dont need much skill for these raids anyway, experience is more important.
30 is definitely not enough to proof experience, thats just each boss 3 times
So getting each boss down 3 times is not enough to prove experience? LOL. Well how many is..10..20? The example I gave showed a guy with 60 li’s couldn’t even repeatedly make it to the green circles on VG, causing the rest of us to wipe several times. As far as I’m concerned if you get the boss down once successfully, that is experience enough.
The idea that 30 LI’s is not enough to show you can succeed is absurd. They should be taken as a simple indicator that you have reasonable experience at encountering the fights. But to dismiss someone for simply having 30 LI’s is ridiculous and that is not a group I would want to play in. Not only that, people can post LI code links in chat that are complete BS. Hence 9/10 I make my own groups and get all the bosses I attempt down.
3 kills per boss is definitely not enough to be considered “experienced”. 3 kills per boss is what experienced people do in a single week
Personally I probably got more than 500 raid boss kills so far and still not perfectWell no offence, but if after 500 kills, you still don’t have the bosses down to a tee, I think that says more about your own personal experience and skills rather than the raiding community at large. Maybe not everyone needed that level of repetition that you did to gain a comfortable level of experience.
Not really, even people from renowned guilds like SC and qT fail sometimes. There is always stuff that can go wrong that you can improve on. So I can only laugh about people who think they are “kill everything on first try” material with less than 100 LI.
People have different skill caps and learning speeds, yes. But being able to call yourself experienced after just 3 kills of a boss is just nonsense.
I think you are mixing up the idea of trying to perfect something with “experience”. There’s a difference between knowing something so well that you could almost do it blind and having enough experience to do the wings within a few goes.
Anyways, it’s all rather irrelevant. Not having 100 li is not really holding my raid group from completing the content at all, so each to their own.

No no no! Making one class essential for a raid wing would cause all kinds of kitten. Anyways, thieves have their uses in the first boss of wing 3, where some use them to stealth through the cave. But this isn’t essential. Can you imagine the lfg – need theif and waiting for ages to get one? Would be like the bad old days of need monk in gw1.
No thanks!
I personally think more people are able to get into raids than they give themselves credit. The average players, the ones who know how to play their class well in dungeons and fractals, are able to get into raids with the right group, with enough exposure to boss mechanics to practice doing them. All it takes is a bit more effort to get to that point (I speak from experience. I considered myself about average before raids, and after about 2 months of raiding, I’ve gotten to the point of being able to do full clears, and it really didn’t take as much effort as I anticipated).
There are plenty of avenues for that.
Very good point! But were you in an established guild team or did you PuG it? And also, how much did you see of people asking for LI’s if you pugged?
I’ve pugged literally every raid iv’e done and I ignore any groups that request LI. ESPECIALLY for SV. The only bosses I haven’t done are Matthias, Xera and KC and even then through people I have met in Pug groups, I am constantly getting invited to try these. But I decline them as I want to get round to watching videos of the fights etc first.
This mainly started from me making my own groups and making sure my teammates at elast had meta/decent builds, food and utilities and were able to join discord/ts..even though you are not required to speak.
The raid team has pretty good momentum. I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon, and expect to see the second raid soon. The target is one wing every 3.5 months or so, and we’re about a month after Forsaken Thicket has been completed. I’m personally expecting a raid with LS3 to tie in with the open world and story content.
Look for dedicated raiding guilds looking to fill out static teams. r/guildrecruitment is a good place to look. The one I’m in right now does frequent learning raids to get people familiar with mechanics and to spot the fast learners to get into static teams for quicker clears.
And this is what worries me. New raid wing every 3.5 months or so, means older raid wings gets more irrelevant.
Well, your worries are unfounded. The great thing about GW2 Raids is that every wing will always be relevant for two reasons. One, all bosses drop insights. Two, there is no extra tier of gear to make old raids pointless like WOW and other MMO’s. It’s actually really well thought out.
Vg will still be as relevant as whatever bosses come out in future raids.
“I don’t get why you choose carrion stats for a condi build”
um, maybe because it is the META condi stat in pvp?
Personally, I would ditch sig of spite for corrupt boon. Warriors, ele’s, guards and rev much more susceptible then. There’s a reason the corruptomancer is the meta build for pvp this season.
Now by this I don’t necessarily mean classes, but where you place individual groups in the squad.
Normally I put chronotank and rev at top, 3 condi and heals in middle at least for vg and the remaining dps down on the 3rd group. But some people like to have seven people in one group.
Why does this actually matter? Are boons spread and shared by actual proximity to the rev/ps or by people in your actual group?
What is the best layout for people in the raid squad and why?
Hmmm That’s odd. I agree if it drops insights it SHOULD unlock the mastery line. Btw, why do you think you guys are failing the VG after so many attempts? Is it a pure guild run or some pugs? What are the issues exactly?
I went with Magi armor with Monk runes, Cleric jewelry and Zerk back piece – I have Zerk jewelry as a 2nd set in case I need to lower my toughness. Weapons are Staff and Sword/Axe Zerk stats with water and blood sigil – blood sigil to help me fill avatar bar. Pets are electro wyvern for cc and tiger for fury on demand. With that I took precision utility and heal power food.
This imho give me enough personal dps, utility as well as survivability and healing power.
Your opinion on this build?
It seems a bit jack of all trades, master of none. Is this just for running in open world or for specific raiding encounters. I personally would ditch both of those pets. Lots of other classes provide fury and the electric wyvern while nice looking is slow. IF you want to specifically heal and support groups, you should be brining the fernhound and maybe blue moa for protection or pink moa to daze down breakbars. Also consider switching out your offhand axe for warhorn as skill4 produces nice group wide buffs like might, fury and swiftness, thus negating the need for the tigers fury. If traited it can also bring regen too, meaning between ur warhorn, hound and healing spring you can almost have regen constantly up. The Birds skill 5 while not great gives u some personal dps.

I would honestly only bother investing in Zealots if you aim to do regular consistent raiding or possibly running with friends in WvW. There is simply no need for it elsewhere in the rest of the game.

What would you consider casual? How would it differ from the standard raids? To a lot of players, the current Raids are already “Casual”. Most of the fights are pretty short. The sloth for example, is actually only 6 and half minutes long before he enrages. Most open world bosses take longer than this. Think of Jormag, Shatterer, the Golem and the meta events in the hot maps.
If you explain more clearly what you would like them to do, maybe they can accommodate a portion of the player base that agrees with you?
Well Necro is in great demand and that’s a wonderful thing to see after so many years of the ele/guard/warrior pve meta. What makes it even more special is how strong a role necro can play in the raids, ie the hardest pve content.
As people have already mentioned Epidemic is very useful especially in fights such as the sloth and Gors and Sabatha adds. Not only that but the use of death line, Lich and Rise can build up a LARGE amount of minions/rats to put lots of bleeds on targets as well as being very amusing to watch. Necro also has a great reflect in the corrosive posion which can reflect slublings damage while damaging the sloth. The plague signet is also very useful in that fight too. One other nice touch is it is one of the few classes that can be welcomed in a raid in its VANILLA format. Some people actually switch out the Reaper line for Blood Magic. Transfusion can be very useful if your main healer is struggling to support the group or u have too many downs.
It has a nice amount of damage vs the ability to stay alive with its large health pool and shroud. I rarely ever die as a necro in raids. On my ele, one mistake and Im screwed.
As a class it has come of age and long gone are the days when u could be booted from a Dungeon for simply BEING a necro.

PUGS are pot luck. Did VG Monday night no sweat. Went to do it again last night with a few friends I was helping and the rest pugs. Despite excellent dps, we failed about 6 times with at one point the VG having NO health.
Why did we fail? Because those allocated to the greens could simply not get there all the time. Why? Who knows. I’m calling it on on Discord, even describing exactly where they are. There wasn’t much more I could do to help them.
Some people just can’t grasp it, I don’t know.
I actually wish they would update it or give it some more depth. While it has more options than say WOW or SWTOR it pales in comparison to something like Dragon Age or BDO.
I for one am SICK of seeing those human female ele’s running around all with that dumb anime looking face. Would love to be able to create unique faces, use make up, more unique looking facial features and the ability to resemble different age groups. The Human race options in particular are extremely limited. The males all have that Ken Doll look about them. Why can’t I create a war weary guy in his 40’s who bears the scars of battle? My Ranger literally looks like a Calvin klein Model…. :|
A system like The Sims 4 would be amazing.
We have good character customization. It isn’t the best, sure…
…but I don’t wanna spend 30 minutes fiddling with an upper nose bridge slider, either.
~EW
You wouldn’t have to but other people would. I certainly would.
Condi on Rangers is very strong. Sadly if you are a druid, everyone automatically thinks you are a healer. But Shortbow – Axe/Torch is a very good condi set up for rangers/druids.
Depends. Do you want to go condi, heals or power? Is it only for Dungeons or will you do fractals and eventually raids? If you only plan on doing Dungeons, tbh anything will work. An optimised power set is Beserkers. An optimised Condi would be Vipers or if just cheap exotics, carrion/rampagers. Healing based go for magi’s.
I have to admit, I’ve seen people already asking for exp and I just kinda chuckled to myself. But I’ve also seen people looking for SV requiring 60 li which I just think is hilarious. I find it an intriguing irony, that often the most demanding of players who are extremely critical of others are actually pretty horrendous themselves.
For example, last night on VG, we had an ele who literally complained about everything. Our dps was bad, heals were crap, tank wasn’t rotating the Guardian correctly. Yet she kept dying every single kittening time. So I said rather succinctly, dead dps don’t do any dps and we are spending too much time ressing you. She left, we got someone else and got it down with no drama.
Every reset night, I put up a lfg, it fills extremely quickly and off we go and get at least vg down quite easy. Some people like the above example come and go and it can be frustrating to swap people in and out but it gets done in the end.
The problem with this community is everyone is either terrified of starting their own groups or simply expect someone else to do all the organising. I have been doing a lot of raiding recently. Joined a pug group for the brand new wing and nearly got the keep boss down.
But, I generally start my own groups. At this stage I am pretty experienced and prefer experienced people but when I started, I advertised as new or training and the groups fill up super quick. Really some things you can’t just sit around and wait for people to organise for you. If you want to raid that badly, put a simple advert up in lfg and make a squad.
Also, having people with eternal or whatever is by no means a path to victory. They could have bought the title for one. One other thing that bothers me is the impatience. I’ve had people bail out of groups after 2 shots at a boss. Raiding requires patience and time. If you’re not prepared to devote either, then don’t expect to achieve raiding goals.
(edited by Mitch.4781)
For your reaper to be used in raids you will need Condi gear either Sinister or the better version Viper’s. Power reaper isn’t used in raids. For support you could level a Druid for heals and getting healing gear is realistically inexpensive
Power Necros are used for tanking sometimes.
Yes it absolutely should be changed to male or flat chest armour. It looks completley ABSURD at the moment. Utterly ridiculous looking.
So I did the first boss last night, but didn’t beat the keep construct yet. Still, it’s an interesting alternative to the other wings.
the first boss has no enrage timer and other than watching for warg spawns, has 0 risk in the entire run.
split up the group 3-7 (3 run mushroom cave and tower, 7 escort) and the entire thing is a joke.
So could I create a pug group tonight and expect to get past the first boss/event?
Keep construct has serious hitbox issues. Also it took my team about 1 hour to beat it, but the maze is ridiculous. 2 hours in and we are still stuck in the maze.
What do you mean hitbox issue?
Ok, while I have yet to fight them I’m intrigued to know all about them. According tow rite ups on reddit, most people seem to think the first boss is quite easy. What is his name?
The 2nd Boss is the Keep Construct which is moderate difficulty and the last is Xena..some sort of Golden Marrionette?
To those that have attempted or even downed some of the new bosses, what are your thoughts? How does this wing compare to the other two in terms of difficulty, dps requirements and mechanics?
I thought Anet had a staff of around 300?
I can only suspect that the reason other content seems slow is because the next expansion will be a lot larger than HOT. Stung by criticism of “only 4 maps” and HOT in general, I expect the next expansion to blow HOT out of the water. I feel that ANET themselves, feel they have something to prove. The 6 people that are doing the raids are overdelivering if u examine manpower vs output. Raids are end level content keeping hardcore player retention. There is nothing else in the game that satisfies those players so the value they are getting from raids vs the amount of people being used to make them is delivering from a cost and time perspective.
Sounds like it’s all hands on deck.
Topic title says it all, but let me put it into context:
I’m a mute guy. Not the shy kind too, really mute, I can barely mumble (it’s not tragic or anything, I had a minor tumor and fortunately lost only the voice). Now, that doesn’t concern my playing of games at all, and I play a lot: I’ve done most things around GW2 short of the legendary journeys and raiding, playing for years alongside other games. With that said, fractals got stale so I’d like to start practicing and running raids.
I’ve got the gear and I’ve got the patience, only problem is, most groups I see around require voice chat like TS. While that would be no problem on my side (my ears work even better than they used to), I’m not sure if it would harm performance to the point where it’d be annoying for the team if I couldn’t point out things fast (e.g look guys a green circle!). Either way I have good humor about this – not gonna scream at people for not wanting me around, but if raiders overall do not find it unbearable, I am definitely going to silently sneak into the raiding game ^^
Max, as long as you can hear what commanders or raid leaders are saying, then you don’t have to say a word. If you’re running with a pug, discord or ts are very useful, but doesn’t mean you yourself have to speak.
Infact there is nothing more annoying than constant chatter over the mics when you need to focus on the boss and mechanics. Nothing wrong with chilling after the fight, but regarding fights themselves, the less people speaking the better.
While the raid team does a great job, I have a feeling that Arenanet will be moving away from raid content design. It just doesn’t attract enough players compared to the ressources it consumes.
Best result would be a new raid per future expansions but I doubt new raids will get added outside of those.
I don’t have exact figures, but internally to ANet the raid team is lauded and praised for being a massive success. I am under the impression that there will absolutely be more raids, potentially even very soon as a component of LS3 (they said this was a possibility, so no guarantees).
This is a very dangerous and unprofessional comment to make.
When you deliberately destroy all other game modes, starve them for content, then produce content purely for Raids and Raids only of course it will look like a success!
Raids have been the most destructive most toxic, most soul destroying thing Anet have ever done.
In what way? As far as I know the raid team is a 5/6 man team. If that is true, they are getting INCREDIBLE value out of them for what they are actually delivering. No reason to not keep doing raids if this is the level of what they can do in the time they are given.
I think that new raids will come with expansions. Having said that, once third wing is out of the way I expect ls3 and fractals to be full steam ahead.
The way they talk about “limited resources”, you’d think they had a skelton staff of 7 people or something. Aren’t they like a team of over 300? Wtf are they all doing?
So did the two “beta” maps make it into this seasons ranked rotation?
