For leveling, Golem (any and all minions, really). To end game, my option is lich if you are a powermancer.

And I also use Dagger/Dagger. It isn’t the “normal” weaponset, but I like a lot the skills that the OH dagger gives me: they are very nice for the way I play…

…and besides, I don’t like to roam the battlefield with a trumpet in a hand. XD Two daggers look awesome.

Try d/d, d/w, and d/f, and choose the one set that better suits your playstyle. Your opinion is the only one that matter, really.

I wish to be able to use my heal, utils and elite skills (6 to 0) in DS. I don’t need to have a different set, as when underwater: just let me keep the ones I normally have.

(Combo bonus if I can use them also on lich form).

Also, let me heal my HP when in DS.

Only a very small minority share the same opinion as you. People that are willing to do hard challenging content expect an equally worthy reward for taking the time to participate in it.

Though question… :-s I play for the sake of it, to spend a good time and some laughs with my friends, and to enjoy a good story. BUT I also hope to get some nice items, time to time.

Sincerelly, I do prefer to don’t get anything instead of get a white-blue item on a very difficult dungeon. :-s It feels like if I entered the final evil castle of doom, killed the boss, and then get out with a tin fork, just as a souvenir.

If it doesn’t come by the end of this year I’m quitting the game, I’ll give my 400+ gold that I’ve been saving to some random newb

Why is celestial armor time-gated?

in Crafting

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

Yeah this whole time gated on Celestial is crap,it took me 2+ months to make the armor and weapons for two of my toons.

Maybe we should start PLAYING the game and ENJOYING it just for the sake of getting a good time, and whine less about why we can’t get ALL the equipment we want in just one hour…

Really, two months to craft two whole sets of the most time consuming armor doesn’t look like too much effort to me. In other games I had been though almost a year just to get a whole set.

That’s a very good idea, indeed. And, in a magical setting, you don’t even have to worry about why the content is still playable. “Hiya, you traveler! Enter my timeless portal, that will let you enter the flow of time and live a mirage of past times!”.

ANet can choose if the “mirages” let you come back with loot, or only with experience… Nevertheless, is a fine idea.

Living Story Most of it needs to be PERM

in Living World

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

While I do want all of this to be permanent… wouldn’t that make the Living Story just a… dunno Story?

If a war explodes on the real world, the world will be changed. Some people will die, some nations will rise or dissapear. New goverments will be created. Some statues will be erected. And the people will remember what happened, and drop a tear for it.

It doesn’t happen that, when the war is over, magicallly all the world is the same again, like if that war never happened.

To a world be “living” means that new things happens. But those things effects should be permanent. That add deepness to the story, to remember a NPC and said “yeah, she died during the Scarlet invasions big war”, or to go to a place and find it teared apart, or something like that.

Another C&P:

From zero to almost hero (I mean, from lvl 1 to lvl 60 or something like that), I had found the minion master (why not minionmancer?) build to be the best for PvE (well, not really the build, since you still have very little traits to spec, but the play-style).

Minions are a huge advantage on dps and tanking, and also taking away the aggro from you, even with their current limitations and problems. You can even spec yourself with another build, and still your minions will help you a lot. AND they are getting a good buff on this patch.

When you reach something around lvl 60, you already will have enough traits to respec into something else. You can keep the minion master build, but you will find that the minions are not so helpful against big bosses or another players, so if you start going to dungs, fracts, PvP or WvW, your build will not shine at its best.

If you switch to any powermancer build (the tanky one, or the glass cannon, or even a vampiric build) you will do some good direct damage. Normally you will use Axe/* or Dagger/* (what is * depends on you and your build. The most used ones are Dagger/Warhorn, Dagger/Focus, or Axe/Focus. I use Dagger/Dagger), and the wells, and the DS will be another attack form.

If you switch to any condimancer build (all-conditions, or focused on only one, as the terrormancer) you will be using arguably the most necro-ish build, and the one better suited for PvP. With conditions, Scepter/Dagger is the most used weapon set. The drawback of this builds is the condition-level cap that makes some condition-based chars redundant.

For last, but not the less, you have an hybrid build. The hybrid mixes the best of the power- and condition-based builds, all in only one build. With it you will do roughly 65% of the damage the powermancer does, and 65% of the conditions the conditionmancer does (thx Nemesis for the %). So, you are good on both aspects of the necro, and you are best suited for any enemy, but you don’t outrun the specialist builds.

(imo, the staff is an all-around weapon that you can use on any build. Is not mandatory, but very useful).

I had found the conditionmancer too slow to kill the mobs unless very specific situations, and with the minionmancer on dungs I normally are alone after the first big AoE, so I prefer to use a powermancer and hit directly my enemies, but that is just my opinion.

imho, while you level up, you should use your minions, and trait accordingly to give them more power, more life, and lich life (specially this one. So, read the Blood Magic tree). I normally use power-related weapons, such as axe or dagger, to help them. And the ever-useful, long-ranged, staff.

Around lvl 60 or so, you should start thinking about respec your traits into a full powermancer, a conditionmancer, or an hybrid, according your playstyle and personal tastes.

My suggestion to ANet: take out the time limit, and base the time between Tequatl appearances upon how quickly the server kills her. On servers where it takes an hour to drop her, make her come back less often. But at least give everyone a chance, casuals and elites alike.

Necromancer leveling build

in Necromancer

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

I’m having a hard time finding a necromancer leveling build. Some of the youtube videos I watch seem hard to understand for me, reason being is I’m an extreme noob to guild wars 2. My highest level was my 14 ele if that puts it in perspective. (…) For pure leveling I plan to just go zone by zone with story quests when available, I may do some PvP or WvW at some points, but I’m not a huge PvPer yet.

imho, while you level up, you should use your minions, and trait accordingly to give them more power, more life, and lich life (specially this one. So, read the Blood Magic tree). I normally use power-related weapons, such as axe or dagger, to help them. And the ever-useful, long-ranged, staff.

If you are new to Guild Wars 2, I sugest that you forget about the “fastest way to level up”, and take the long and panoramic way. Roam the low level maps (specially your starting town), do the hearts, views, pois and so, and especially do the personal story. Enjoy the trip.

Pro-tip: In every starting city is a teleport (a round purple gateway) to Lion’s Arch. From there you can go to the remaining starting cities, and open new low-level maps.

Good luck, and feel free to keep asking.

No. That would break it horribly in WvW as suddenly armies of necros teleport on top of walls and ignore siege all together., taking any tower (and some keeps) with extremely little effort.

Good point. I believe I prefer to summon the wurm only on the necro´s current position then. That way we have a very good defensive teleport, and evade the problems you comment. Better?

Well, in real life we only have one race: human. And we got “normal” people so tall as 2.20 m and so small as 1.50 m. And, if you look for some extreme cases (people abnormally tall , towering at 2.70 m, and people very small , with a bare 54 cm), then you can see the great variety that members of a race can have.

So, isn’t really too frightening that the “tallest” of a “small” race can be taller than the “smallest” of a “tall” race, isn’t it?

in Personal Story

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

No, write both Trahearne and Destiny’s Edge out, and make the player the main character.

I understand your feelings, but I prefer it that way. In a traditional game, I do prefer to be the main character, but in a massive online game, not everyone of us can be the guy who killed Zhaitan. Simply put, there is not enough Zhaitans.

I prefer it that way: the legendary team is Destiny’s Edge, the commander is Trahearne, and I am one of the heroes who was on the flying boat, cleaning its deck from mobs and gunning down the dragon. That way, the story is the same for all of us, and our chars can “talk” with each other without killing themselves for being too much of a lier.

The problem here is that Trahearne is a plain character. Anyone of the partners from the three orders is A LOT more charismatic, and A LOT more closer to our characters. If Tybalt -for example- were the one saying “hey, I killed that Zhaitan, thanks to my buddy here!”, no one would complain about it. But Trahearne is not Tybalt, but a plain character imposed to us.

Is the same about why Zhaitan was gunned down from an aircraft instead of killed by a character’s sword. Had you seen that dragon’s size? No one can take it down alone! So, it’s understandable that an army, or a massive vehicle, should be used to it.

The problem there was that Zhaitan, literally, sit down waiting for us to gun him down. So, again, is not what happened, but how it happened. Zhaitan’s fight should had been more heroic, should had been made from the stuff legends are done.

Sigh I just want Necromancer to play like a unique profession, not a re-skin of all the other professions. I am with Nemesis on this. I don’t care if there are situations the job struggles with if there are also situations Necromancer excels at. Balance, to me, does not mean equal capability for every task. That sort of thinking discourages cooperative play. Instead, balance should be about creating tasks which reward cooperation using a variety of specialized builds and unique professional skills. If the only builds that are necessary to complete a dungeon run are berserkers, that is not my idea of balance. The same goes for WvW and TPvP. (I could not care less about yolo. If people want to prove their skills in1v1, then make them play identical builds on identical professions.)

Necromancer Leveling Help

in Necromancer

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

Hi, Darth. Welcome to the Necromancer path.

You are fairly low level, so my first suggestion is that you should stop worrying about weapons and equipment, and just equip the best items you get as loot. Don’t bother buying anything, at least for now.

About your weapon of choice, I suggest that you try every one of them, because all of them are very good, in a way or another. Equip them as you get them, and open all slots of its skills.

If I had to select one weapon set to use on a starting Necro, I would go with Axe/*, and Staff, since they are ranged, and you should try to keep out of enemy reach. They can’t kill you if they can’t reach you.

About your build, traits, and gameplay, I suggest that you follow the Minionmancer path (buy the traits that give your minions more power, more health, siphoning life, and so on) on early levels. Those guys will help you to kill faster and to stay alive a lot more, so that you can focus on test some changes and weapons to decide which build you will use (namely, Powermancer, Conditionmancer, or some variant).

PS: These are my opinions, and by no means they are bulletproof. Just test by yourself which equipment, traits and skills are better for your gameplay. And enjoy.

When in DS, I want any audio coming from my toon to be in CAPITAL LETTERS JUST LIKE IT IS IN PRATCHETT’S BOOKS!

And the boxes that show what the necro is saying should be yellowish or black.

I agree that MM are not bad, but if you got afk while a thief was stabbing you, and he couldn’t kill you, then sir you had found the worst thief ever. XD Share us his nick to go and say “hello” to him.

Necromancer WvW tips.

First of all, you should select which build you will use. We have some of them (power-critical, power-tank, condition, fear, hybrid, mm, and so on), but the most commonly used are Conditionmancer and Powermancer. I suggest that you align your traits with your equipment, instead of rising one stat in one, and another one in the other.

Take a look at Nemesis’ or Ventari’s guides (at the start of the Necro’s forum) and check some builds made by other people. That will help you guiding your first steps with the Necro.

If you choose Conditionmancer, you will do a lot of condition damage to groups of people. Choose scepter as main-hand weapon, and choose between Focus, Horn or Dagger to the second-hand, and staff as the second set.

If you choose Powermancer, you will do a lot of direct damage to one target (or a line of targets). Choose Axe or Dagger as main-hand, and choose between Focus or Dagger to the second-hand. You can choose between them to the second set, or use the all-around staff.

Once done that… try it yourself, practice, and choose your path based on your gameplay style. And get some fun.

Minions fix

in Necromancer

But most necros say that MM build is weak and both condition and power builds are way stronger ! That’s why we need these " flat " buffs ! so that MM build equals condtion and power builds.

Well, I don’t believe that the Minionmancer is weaker than the Powermancer or the Conditionmancer… Is just that it have its area of utility… exactly as the other builds.

I leveled up to lvl 80 using a MM as main, and I can tell you that I hadn’t encountered another profession so easy to play, and with that survivability. My necro was almost impossible to kill in PvE. I even went to grab a snack, and some mobs attacked me, and my minions killed them: it wasn’t rare to get back and find that I had leveled up while I wasn’t playing.

Once said that, just as I hit lvl 80, I find that the MM wasn’t an all-terrain build. I started to do dungeons and WvW, and I found that the minions were always one-shoted, wiped out by the bosses’ AoE, and that they can’t survive a WvW zerg.

Soon enough I decided that, if my necro was going to be minionless most of the time, then I could just respec him to at least have some skills other than the minions, so being effectively more powerful. So I tried some other builds, and settled for a tanky Powermancer.

So, choose the build exactly as you choose other builds: MM is very good to roam PvE, or even to fight 1vs1 with other players, but don’t take it to a boss with powerful AoEs, or to a zerg where a log of red rings will show up: the minions LOVE those red rings…

The minions doesn’t need more damage, or cleave, or wings, or to heal themselves, or even to be immune to AoE. They only need some good pair of eyes to see those red rings and get the hell out of them!

+1 to the idea of commander tags colors. I don’t know if they should be free (as in “I will use any of my dies to color my tag!”) or if they should be listed and mean something (as in “blue for zergs, green are defending, red for guerrilla tactics”).

Doesn’t look very legendary. Not to be rude, but I would hope to see way more interesting things on them.

I agree. Still, good job, and thx for sharing it to us! Don’t stop and keep the good work!

SAB & the vertically challenged

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

While it should provide rewards and much fun for those with vertical prowess, some of us just simply fail dismally at JP’s. Now Anet wants to rub salt in the wound and bring in round two of SAB for more frustration and impossible rewards. Yaay…not.

I may be wrong, but imo the chars jump exactly the same height and length, disregarding their race. The asura and the norn jump the same distance, and you can easily test it.

(As a matter of fact, jumping with a norn or a charr is more difficult, since they are bulkier and doesn’t let you see the ground they are standing on!)

The only things that matter are your momentum (you can run to jump longer), some skills that give you more speed, and (of course!) your own personal skills.

Remove salvage confirmation from masterworks?

PLEASE make this happen! I would love for this to happen!

Option 1 — Select in Options Menu which quality of items you want to display a confirmation box for.

Option 2 — Hold shift to override confirmation box.

Both options would be equally as amazing~!

Not even downed? Wait, was this only tested with Warrior and Guardian again? I play a pretty defence heavy Elementalist, and downing is common. No wonder I didn’t get this class biased achievement!

I had soloed it, without getting downed, using my necro and my mesmer, and some guildies did it using engineers, rangers, and eles. Doesn’t know their builds, but this dung is pretty soloeable, imho. Just need to study the mob’s movements.
