My concerns about GW2

Anet is doing a great job but:
1. Warriors and guardians are most OP classes now, they are best in PVE, PVP, WvW and dungeons, other classes fall against them in every aspect, from damage to sustain.

Wrong. They can be taken out if you master your mesmer, your thief, your elementalist. It’s not a matter of broken profession, it’s a matter of skills.

The OP isn’t saying that those classes are invincible: he just said that they are overpowered. That probably means that they need a lot less player-skills to achieve what other classes can achieve with more effort. That if you play those classes, you will be consistently doing more damage to mobs, soaking more damage done to you, etc.

And I agree with that, btw.

Hi there, and welcome to the dark world of powermancers!

Imho the minionmancer is the easiest way to level up. You can see the base build I use for it here (is for PvP, but you can use on PvE):

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNAoYWjM00VbbNO1webibBRya7me50qQG4GA-TJRBwAD3focZAQnCAAPBAA

If you want to use a power + precision build, the default first step is to look at Spoj’s or Nemesis’ guides and builds. Both are very complete. You can find Spoj’s here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Guide-DPS-Necro-for-PvE/first

For a powermancer, the first set of weapons you will use normally are dagger/X or axe/X, depending on how you play, and which are your religious ideals. imho, staff is a very good second secont “set” of weapons, that let you attack from afar when you need a break on the fight.

Read the guide, test the build, and feel free to adapt it to you, and to keep asking about tips and help here. But, again, at lvl 40 you still doesn’t have all the traits to completely set a build, so i suggest you to only stick to some minions, and let them do the work for you until you hit level 80.

Good luck!

Usinig lichform against her is a good idea… if you use it at the right moment.

Keep near the center of the arena, so you can go for one “area” to another as fast as you can. This way you will need only a couple of steps to go from an “area” to the next.

Looking for some builds

in Necromancer

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

Talking about PvE/map completion, these are the 2 builds I recommend:

.
Powermancer, bunker edition:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNAoYWjc00SbjNG3whjCehS6AIHm3JPieAqzkqvA-TxTAwAiOABKVixT9nuKPkpFIzBCo5+DAMxF6QA0SXQHlgs0w84EA45IAQ4BAEAABgrrxJGA-e

This build is the one I normally use on PvE / Dungeons / Fractals. It had been universally praised as useless, so probably only me should use it, but it is very survivable. You will need 7 or 8 risen on Orr to get in trouble.

.
Minionmancer:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNAoYWjM00VbbNO1webibBRya7me50qQG4GA-TJRBwAD3focZAQnCAAPBAA

This is my PvP build, but you can use it as is on PvE (open world), and maybe on some dungeons. imho, is the best build to level up a necromancer, and may be useful to you to roam the open world.

.
Good luck!

+1 to the right click boon-removing option.

or just wait for it to expire? I mean, most speed buffs don’t last much longer than 25seconds, unless you’re in WVW

Remember that you can get boons from other players. You can be with someone spamming some buffs, and having to wait 25 seconds may be a pain on timed jumps or in enemy-filled rooms.

Suggestion: make Festival Tokens permanent

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

The idea of making the tokens permanent sounds ok for me. Not only I will have the chance to buy some item, even if at that time I couldn’t do that LS (with my luck, I will miss the LS that will give exactly the item I am looking for!), but I will also be able to get rid of all these tokens I am clinging to, just in case.

I understand that “I was there” feeling, but I also understand that “RL prevent me to be there” feeling. I believe that setting a 5 to 1 or a 10 to 1 exchange rate, as someone already said, will cover that. It will be more difficult to buy something if you buy it “out of season”, but you will still be able to do it.

I believe that a generic “LS token”, located on the wallet, and that you can buy on a exchange rate as said above, will cover it. So, on any LS, you can buy the item paying X tokens of that LS, of paying X generic LS tokens (that should cost you 5*X or 10*X tokens from another LS).

"Too many here: GTFO" = bad design

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

Some events need a zerg, some events doesn’t need one, and some other events discourage zergs. This event belongs to the third type.

We are too accustomed to equip a berserk armor and weapon, spect a berserk build, and just run on a zerg, melting everything on our path. And when we find something we can’t defeat this way, then we start crying “bad design”.

Take this as what it is: another difficulty on our path to being a hero. Addressing the crowds and convincing them of gtfo of the fight is just another difficulty of the encounter, as could be another mob, or more hp on our enemies, or an insta-kill attack. Learn how to deal with it.

This is, after all, a massive multiplayer game, and things like this is what differences it from single-player games. Learn the mechanics, and talk to the other players. I, for one, am gratefull that not all events are one and the same.

Suggestion for whispering gold sellers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

You can’t filter all whispers from strangers, even from low level ones, because then no one will be able to talk to you for the first time. No more “hey, buddy, where do you get that armor” chat, and no more newbies crying for help.

But auto-filtering the whispers from someone who get 5 or 10 reports sounds nice. Or you can add some “filtered words”. That way, you can auto-block any whisper from a stranger with the word “gold”, or some similar words, on it, for example.

Have a “visibility cone” stretch out for about 200-300 inches in front of the player. If a stealthed player walks through this cone, you can see their distorted stealth image that the player sees, but still untargetable.

Also, maybe if a stealthed player attempts an attack you can see them attemping the attack for a split second.

Morbridae.8607

To Norjena, Dalanor, Azreell, and any other player kind enough to answer me before: thx for your comments!

I strongly disagree about that build/gamestyle being useless. I agree that it doesn’t have the highest dps, but I firmly believe that there is more on this game that just bigger numbers. Besides, I believe that a full berserker build of any class only works if the whole group is build the same way, so that you can work your way through enemies by sheer force. And I believe also that if you die before the fight ends, you are no helping to your full extend.

When I talk about being the last man standing, I don’t talk about being the last one to die, but about being the one that kills the mobs, or the one that heal the rest of the party back on their feet. Nevertheless, I understand your points.

I agree that the build is far for optimal, and that it is very individualist and doesn’t offer anything to the group (at least, not bonuses, boons, etc, of any kind).

So, as an experiment, could you please share with us the builds you normally use on dungeons and fractals? I promise to try them, and with a little luck I will be able to learn something, and you will help create a better necro. In the worse case, I will maintain my opinions, and you will maintain yours, so nothing will be lost.

thx for your responses…

Nice question…

My main necro is a norn, and I enjoyed it a lot. I imagined him sort of a shaman, so he speak with the spirit of the departed. With that norn-shaman idea, my necro sort of keep in line with the PS. Sort of.

My second necro is a sylvari. Their looks help a lot to “feel” them like a necro, but the PS isn’t very “necromancerish”, as Narkodx said.

I believe that, since the necro-minions isn’t truly undeads, but more constructs of a sort, the Asura may be a good choice story-wise. You can belong to the College of statics, and build your golems using different body parts… or to Synergetics, and study the philosophical and mystical qualities of the souls you resurrect to help them fulfill their destiny…

I don’t believe that Human’s or Charr’s PS are necro-friendly… but necro charr looks are awesome!

Necrobunker build for dungeons

in Necromancer

Posted by: Morbridae.8607

Morbridae.8607

Hi! I had seen a lot of “lf build” lately, so I though of sharing my PvE dungeon all-terrain build, just in case someone want to use it. Of course, I nejoy this build because of my playstyle, so it may just be crap to anyone else… Just keep polite.

My necro’s build is power-bunker (2/0/6/4/2):

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNAoYWjc00SbjNG3whjCehS6AIHm3JPieAqzkqvA-TxTAwAiOABKVixT9nuKPkpFIzBCo5+DAMxF6QA0SXQHlgs0w84EA45IAQ4BAEAABgrrxJGA-e

Pre-April-patch I was using a very different build (6/0/0/4/4), but with the same general idea:

http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vQAQNAoYWjc00SbjNG3whbiYSx30G0j3jLnRpwdrD-zgzAYrkhuCEODkgASaQoPQ0IMqAQ2rIaslzioxqew0lJV9KI7BUWDAgAw114EDA-e

So far, I like the most the current build (the first one I posted). The only drawback it have when compared to the old one (the second one) is that DS now get consumed faster.

  • * *

The strong point of both builds is their survivality: even meleeing with dual daggers the build have a decent healing/leeching level, and its high hps and armor gives it a long life. Their damage output is decent, but not top.

The weak point is that this is a very independent build: its help towards the party is very low, nearly inexistent, besides a couple of wells.

The only thing I wish to change is to get some extra condition damage. Necros put conditions literally with every action (even dodging!) and I believe that the condDmg of the build is too low, but I don’t know what to change about it. I accept any ideas.

Not really a bug, imho, but I don’t know where to put it…

Simple items that are exactly the same doesn’t automatically merge into only one stack on banks or guild banks, the way they do on char bags. It may be happening because you drop the item directly into a bank slot, instead of “in the bank” as a whole.

With all the extra dyes we got with the update, it will be nice to have some way to merge those items. One idea is that items that are the same automatically merge into one only stack. Anothe idea is that you provide a “merge” button so that we can merge the items if we want to.

1.- Make it doable on a 5-man party, or solo.

Less zerg. Less lag. Less omg-I-need-a-whole-server content. I don’t have anything against a zerg now and then, but being incapable of ending my LS because everybody else on server already did it, stinks.

2.- Make the story coherent and brilliant.

You have a lot of excellent writers. And you can even ask for help to us, the community. I am sure that a lot of players had good plot-viable ideas to this game. Ask us, use our ideas, and give us a better game.

I don’t want to read Dulfy to know what I have to do. I don’t want to open my achievement tab to know what to do. I want the story to be story-driven. Give me information, and a good story, so that I can choose what to do. Let us know what we should do, by telling us why we should do it.

3.- Make my char feel like a hero.

I don’t want the villain to escape and escape and escape, no matter what. I don’t want the villain to be killed easily, or using a cannon. I want to sweat my fight, and in the end, I want it to matter, somehow. I want that the story of the LS make me say “woa!!!” over and over.

Morbridae.8607

I love all the trailers and discussions released previous to an update. They let us to prepare for the update, to research about the new best builds, to plan ahead about how are we going to spend the next in-game week or month.

But…

I do not love to know ahead of time what will happen.

I mean, I already know that, one way or the other, L.A. as we know it will dissapear. Maybe there will be only ruins. Maybe there will be a new dungeon to explore L.A.’s underworld. Maybe there will be an empty map. And maybe someday L.A. will be rebuild. Or not.

I already know that today I should walk across L.A. and take a lot of pictures. And I already know that tomorrow, when I log in, I will appear on a new map (and maybe an automatic instance to show what happened). And I know that, doesn’t matter how hard I fight, L.A. will be lost. Why should I fight then?

What if the dev team keep that info to themselves? If they give us in advance info about the bug-fixes, about the changes in game-mechanics, but keep to themselves the info about story? What if tomorrow, when I log in, I find myself in a L.A. burning down because of a surprise attack, without actually knowing what was going on, without knowing that that was going to happen?

Moreover, what if that attack, that battle, goes for one week of play, and THEN, based of the players fight, on some across-server points, it is decided if L.A. lives or dies? (Of course, devs, you are fully allowed to be a good Dungeon Master, and play with us and decide, no matter how many points we did, that L.A. will fall, but we will still be surprised the moment the surprise attack starts, we will still fight as the heroes we are supposed to be, and we will enjoy a lot more than we will do now).

This is a role playing game, after all. And never, ever, in all the “live-action” role playing games I had played, had the DM come to me, one week earlier, to say “do you know what? I will send you a dragon on saturday’s game-session. And the orcs will make a surprise attack against your base, cackle cackle”… I learn what is happening at the same time my char does. So, why don’t do the same here?

PS: Many of you may say “that’s easy, boy: don’t look into the forums, and you will be surprised”. But that isn’t the idea, and you know it. Besides, there’s other ways of find out about the new updates. And -and this really bugs me- normally the in-game info is so hard to find, that you need to look into the forum, of another sites, to really grasp what’s going on with each update. Yeah, even to learn about the story…

imho, there is 2 main necro-power-builds… the “tanky” one, and the “glass cannon” one.

The “tanky” one normally use Pow/Vit/Tou equipment. This is the build I use: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNAoYWjMaV6hbGbM8JiJFfTbQPePucGlC3tOA-jwDBYLJDdRQkgIgkGI0HQ0IYZPFRjtcqIasqHY6SJV9SQ2qDwMGySG2DQZFA-e

The “cannon” one normally user Pow/Pre/CritDmg. This is the build I use: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNAoYWjMaV6FbibM8JkpCeD0j3DXcGqHuz68hA-jgyAYLioRiggIVIZJPF28XwShQFyioxqhwUlER1ehioVDA-e

I am pretty sure you can find more and better builds out there, but this two will give you a good idea about where to start.

And about where to find the top armor and weapons, well… Karma, Dungeons, WvW or Crafting (TP). Choose the one that best suits you.

What do you mean by Vamp is a “weirdly fine line” ?

I don’t know what does he mean, but maybe that the vamp build had been argueably revamped (pun intended). Some changes were done to some traits and skills, meaning that now the health siphoning is… different.

I don’t believe that right now that build is viable, but at least is being changed… in some direction.

Finally, has something actually changed in condi-stripping in WvW?

As Cogbyrn said, no one does perma-condi-strip. On WvW can happen if a large group get organized enough to alternate their skills to that effect.

further questions, what do you mean by axe and daggers are no longer the necessary power weapons? what else is there?

Axe and daggers are the power weapons. But axe/double dagger isn’t. The most used combinations are axe or dagger MH, and focus or warhorn OH, sometimes with Staff as second-weapon-set. Power build with D/D doesn’t synergize well, and is used only by some rebels… like me.

In this case..we should blame Traherne…he must be our Gilligan

Sooo… we should tie Trahearne to a boat, and let it drift away? Is that what you are suggesting…?

Because that’s a very good idea.

Organized, it depends on what the other members of your party will do. Unorganized, imho I prefer to go with my powermancer, since I don’t know how many condi-users will be in the party, and the condition cap is a pain in the kitten .

Every necro-build is good… but it depends on you, your playstyle, your skills, and where are you going to use it. I suggest you to try a couple of builds before settling for one of them.

Besides, you can try some different builds at a “low” cost.

  • To respec your char, you only need to pay the Trait Master less than 4 silvers. That is almost like traveling to a wp.
  • To equip yourself with another set or armor, it is easily doeable in more than one way: you can buy a karma armor, or you can gen some dungeon armor, or you can buy wvw armor… Those things you can achieve more or less easily in some days of playing.
  • You always had the last option: create another char, and level it, then compare your previous char with your new char.

Levelling Build Advice

in Necromancer

Morbridae.8607

I am surprised how many players ask this question. There is no one build for leveling. Focus on learning how make your own builds and evaluate how effective they are in different situations or for different play styles. That is the only way to develop a deep understanding of the profession. Give every single skill, utility, piece of equipment, and trait skill a thorough work-out so you know how they function and interact. Retrait often and compare how your weapon choices interact but do not fret on armor or having optimal traits. Use the time to learn.

I do understand them… When you have some time playing, you can study different builds and compare them, and then developt the build that better suits you.

But when you are starting to play, you really don’t understand anything. Should I trait power to kill faster? Or toughness to die slower? Which is the build that will help me to live longer and play better, while I study my char?

I do believe that, at max lvl, there isn’t a right build to do something. For example, my main is a powermancer, and my build is different that every other build I had see. Even those builds made by who I consider to be the best necro players on this forum. But this is my build, and work like a charm with my playstyle and my abilities.

But I also believe that, when you are starting to play the game, or even a new class, there are some builds that are standards de facto. Suggestions that can help a newbie to start with the right foot.

“Hey, the main necro builds are power-, condi- and minion-mancer. Each one of these are good to <some things>, and bad at <some things>. Use build <X> if you like to play more or less like <some ways>. If you are going to try the build <X>, max first <this> traits, and look for <this> equipment”…

Those are just some comments, some suggestions, that can help a lot the new players to make their chars more playable, and to enjoy the class at low levels, don’t you think?

PS: imho, we should make those “newbie suggestion list”, and fix them at forum’s start.

Race choice for necro?

My main necro is a norn, and I love it. But I accept that sylvaris, charrs and asuras have more necro-ish features, and can be best suited for the job, stylish-speaking, since they have better skin and hair color combinations.

Should I make a Necro?

Morbridae.8607

If you roll a necro, every other class will be better than you in something. Worse yet, you will not be the best on anything…

…yet, necro is my favorite class. I have 3 of them maxed out, and thinking about maxing one more. XD

As a necro, you may be not helpful for your teammates, but believe me: you will be waaaaay far from useless. And, if you learn how to play it well, you will kick kitten s not only on PvE, but on PvP and WvW too.

So, c’mon, give the necro a try.

This set is however not obtainable at al in PvE, Some pieces are, but not the hat and the shoulders which are really awesome:

I had not looked for the shoulders, but I just said, on the message just previous to yours, that you can buy the hat for PvE at the WvW armorer. :-s
