Anything a necro can do, another class can do better… that’s why.
But I need to clarify that, so far, I hand’t been thrown off from any party for being a necro. Some laughs, yes, but no kick.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Currently using a PVT powermancer with Runes of Vampirism (basically the same build to PvE, PvP and WvW, at least for now). Like the bonus to power (1, 3, 5), and love the mist form (6) that have a really cool concept and had saved my kitten a lot of times.
But I don’t like the health stealing (2, 4) powers. I believe they have a very low chance of happening, and I don’t believe they steal a lot of health, really (but I don’t know how much. Anybody does?). So, I believe I am underusing 1/3 of my rune powers.
Any suggestion to swap the Runes of Vampirism for some other power-based runes? Any other runes with something similar to mist form?

…on a unrelated thread, I choose to share some thoughts about them.
a) We should have the option of no joining any order. My char is a loner, so why must I choose a group? Every citizen in Tyria belongs to one of the orders? Even Trahearne, the not-so-chosen-one, doesn’t belong to one of the orders! Why should I?
b) The order we choose should be more representative on our char lives. So far, belonging to an order only gives us an armor, and it isn’t a top armor, and we have to pay a lot of gold for it. We should get some other benefits: more equipment, services, better prices in some things, the posibility of representing our orders in some activities, order vs order competitions, private entrance to some dungeons or fractals or some other instanced-, order-related map, and so on.
c) So inconsequential is the order to the chars, that we don’t have any way to know which order we belongs to… Shouldn’t it at least appear on our Hero screen? Many of my guildmates didn’t even remember their order!

How do you know that there are very little people? Have you gone to every server and looked? Have you considered that people used to go there when they still had dailies for the tower? The day before had a daily that required players to complete the final instance. You very well could be correct except you’re not providing anything to support your side.
Well, I don’t know for sure. I can’t count how many people were inside the tower, on any given moment, on any given server. But you can see tendencies…
In this case, I am giving a personal opinion, based on common sense. Starting the LS there use to be at least one zerg on each floor, and the map chat were filled with conversations. It was easy to pick a group after a short wait, and enter the tower with them. And even if you didn’t join a zerg or a party, you normally would see other chars at one time or another, inside the tower.
The last week before before this update, au contraire, the map chat were almost empty. We normally wait almost half an hour to complete a party of 5 chars, and it was difficult to see another soul on the labyrinth. Some people just leave a char at the final boss entrance to do the related dailies. And, talking about the dailies, entering the tower to make the daily (last days) isn’t the same thing that entering the tower to explore it and win its achievements (early days).
I didn’t take a population census on the towers on other servers, but isn’t illogical to thing that, more or less, the behaviour was the same, isn’kitten Again, I don’t want to give a scientific answer, but I really believe that my opinion on this subject isn’t very wrong.
Supposedly one could keep track of the increase as a percentage based on the pixels of the screen. I remember someone talking about that a couple weeks ago. Perhaps someone has been keeping track of its progress and also noting what daily achievements there are for the tower as they’re doing it.
Again, since we don’t have a census on the tower population, we only can suppose. I think that it is possible that a lot of people changed their gaming timeframe, and because of that now we don’t see them, but they still do the tower a couple of times every day. But it isn’t probable, don’t you agree?
And so, since we see a lot less people inside the tower, since the initial fever for the tower and its achievements has gone (as is normal with every LS), since entering to do a daily isn’t the same that entering to explore the tower and get its achievements, I believe that it is safe to assume, on a non-scientifical point of view (as if we were talking on a video-game forum) that said bar should be growing slowly, don’t you think?

As Drarnor says, first choose which build you will be using. If you will be using a condition-based build, look mainly for Condition Damage on you equipment.
I myself use a power-based build ( http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNAoYWjMaV6hbGbM8JiJFfTbQP617dGlC3tOA-jwDBYLJDdRQkgIgkGI0HQ0IYZPFRjtcqIasqHY6SJV9SQ2qDwMGySG2DQZFA-e ), and use a PVT equipment, because I want to run a tankier, more resilient, necro.
I love my build, it works for me, and I am normally the last man standing on dungeons and fractals, so I can’t agree with spoj about berserker maximizing necro’s usefulness. But I do agree that you should use berserker equipment if you want to maximize necro’s damage.

I am currently using a tanky powermancer, 30/0/0/20/20, PVT, dual dagger / staff. So far, so good. You can see it here: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNAoYWjMaV6hbGbM8JiJFfTbQP617dGlC3tOA-jwDBYLJDdRQkgIgkGI0HQ0IYZPFRjtcqIasqHY6SJV9SQ2qDwMGySG2DQZFA-e

but… I still believe they should try to unify at least some of the traits.

The only problem is the spider, with 2 people one is always in a cocoon and the other is surrounded by the plant mines.
You can completely skip the spider. Just use the way on the left when you reach the fork just before the spider.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Yeah, there are people… but very little.
The bar should be growing very slowy nowadays…
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Is a difficult thing to do, really. You are sure that they rage kicked you, but other guys will report the leader even if they were rightly kicked, and the support team don’t have any way to know why every one did a kick (and didn’t have the time, neither).
+1 on the idea, but I don’t believe it can be realistically implemented.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
If this will work only on a given fractal, I support this.
Hey, even the fractal may be designed to minimize the effect on AoEs and the like. I don’t know… be a “open” arena, or something like that.
An a experiment, is nice to try it.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Hey! Excellent weapons ideas! ANet, talk with Witaminka!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I suppose that this question had been asked one zillion times, but I couldn’t find it on forum. If this bores you, please excuse me.
Why, despite sharing so many characteristics, Wells and Marks are considered as two different things? I can understand that some of them are designed to be targeted, and the others don’t, but imho the related traits should affect both of them equally.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
This is the build I have been using. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or thoughts. Thanks.
Very nice build, imo. Very good damage output.
.- I would rather heal me with “Consume Conditions” to better cleanse my conds, but it is only a matter of tastes.
.- Since you go dual-dagger, if you change BM-V to BM-X you can remove “Signet of the Locust” and use that slot to another skill, losing only a little healing.
.- imho, you should change “Spiteful Marks” (Sp-VII) to another trait, since it seems you only have the Lich’s Marks. That seems a lil’ expensive.
pm me if you want to discuss about this…
Good luck!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
A Sylvari Necro was my first character. (…) Please give your opinions/criticisms but please keep them constructive. Thanks.
.- The build doesn’t have the 9 skill.
.- You have only one spectral skill (“Spectral Armor”), but use two traits to beef it (“Spectral Atunement” and “Spectral Mastery”). Imho, is too expensive.
.- Same as above, “Signet Mastery” trait just for one signet seems a little expensive.
.- You are transfering conds, but your main attacks are power-based, and your equipment focuses on power. Is a little bit odd.
imho, your health is too low to be taking your party’s conditions, and you are lacking some extra skills to cleanse them better (like “Well of Power” skill, or “Spiteful Removal” or “Shrouded Removal” traits). And, by taking some removal skills, you are also lacking on the damage side. I should go for a side (removal and retargetting conditions, going full for Cond. Damage, Vit & Tough), or the other (full power spec).

I am currently using a tanky powermancer, 30/0/0/20/20, PVT, dual dagger / staff. You can see it here:
So far, this is the necro build I had liked the most, I suppose that because of my playstyle. I can roam freely the open world (who can’t?), do my share on WvW, and I am normally the last man standing on dungeons and the like.
I want to keep the dual daggers, so please don’t kill me on that. Except that, any feedback on this build? Any ideas to make it better? Any suggestions on items or food?

Just let us use some or all the utilities while on DS…
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Hi, Bhawb!
As a powermancer…
What weapons do you really like?
I love Daggers, either MH or OH. As a matter of fact, I like to play with both of them. For cosmetic reasons, I don’t like to use two different weapons: I feel “disbalanced”; and some of the Daggers have a very “necroish” look. Besides, that’s the weapon I love to do damage (I can’t get it right using Axe or Scepter), and the skills are nice enough. That’s why I just love to use both Daggers.
The Staff is another good weapon of choice: it can be easily and effectively used on any necro build. Besides Daggers and Staff, I don’t really like any other necro weapon.
Both weapons can easily fit into a necro-themed character (Daggers because of their deadly, dangerous look, and the Staff because of necros being magic-users). I can’t say the same of most of the other weapons…
What weapons do you almost like, or like conceptually, but feel they have issues performing as well as they should?
Ironically, this would be Dagger MH. I feel that Life Siphon (skill #2) doesn’t fit on that weapon idea. The healing is too low, and the burst is worse than autoattack (Necrotic Slash; skill #1). They should change that skill for something in the same offensive line that the others skills.
Being a light-armored class, going melee is a bit risky. The Dagger DPS is nice, but I would love to let the Dagger autoattack damage more than one enemy at a time (I can’t ask for an AoE of 5 enemies at once, but 2 or 3 enemies would be awesome!).
Last of all, and since we are just making a wish-list, I would love to put bleeds or poison on targets using Dagger autoattack. We are the lords of conditions, and Dagger looks like a superd weapon to cause bleeding or to poison the target of our attacks.
Of course, I understand that (AoE or more than one target) + (Bleed or Poison) + (autoattack) is a little bit OP… You can choose one of them.
What weapons do you feel fall short?
I don’t really like most of the necro’s weapons, besides Daggers and Staff.
Axe and Scepter: I know that those two weapons are the weapon-of-choice of 2/3 of Tyria’s necros, but for some reason, I can’t get myself to use them. Attacking with them is difficult for me, and the medium range is difficult to manage (I find myself going from melee to 1200 range). I accept that this may be some personal issue and not a weapon’s problem, but anyway, I don’t like them.
Focus: I have a love-hate relationship with this weapon. I love the skills, and the fact that a focus can look literally like anything (a mug, a chain, a book, a light…). But I don’t really get the idea behind this weapon, and can’t understand why we can’t use it MH (a necro with two chains, one on each hand! or with the light-balls!).
Horn: A necro running the battlefield with a trumpet? C’mon, guys…
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Nice idea. +100
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
i remember people saying “challenging”. There is a big difference between “Challenging” and “Harder” content.
I may be wrong, but in this context, I believe “harder” and “more challenging” are the same thing… The most challenging feats, the harder achievements, are the most difficult to obtain (and should be the more rewarding!).
And yes, some of the content is difficult to get by. But guys, this is a multiplayer online game, and that means that not all content should be soloable. Yes, you will need to talk to another human being from time to time, if you want to get some of the “harder” achievements.
I believe that the developers must give us a fair share of easy and soloable content, and not-so-soloable content, and are-you-crazy-this-need-an-army content, so that we can choose what we prefer to play, but they should not make all content soloable, nor all content “groupable”.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I am using a power build because i am zerging for fast achievements, but sometimes… it just so happens that i was on my way to meet up with the zerg, and i see two elementalists…
Hi, Nemesis!
Which of your builds are you using? Is it the glasscannon, or another one?
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Thanks for the suggestions! I think we’d rather leave it up for the players to decide for themselves whether or not they still wish to purchase and try the game anyway despite not meeting the minimum requirements rather than saying, “No, you cannot play.”
err… The launcher freezes at 0/0 KB. You still can’t play. You are only presenting the same error in a nicer way.
Again, thx for your feedback and attention!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
thx, Ashley. I will try to upgrade my system asap.
Just for the records, I will give you two suggestions:
1) Please add an in-game message that say just that: “Your pc doesn’t meet the game requirements”. It will be nicer, friendlier, and more helpful than just a 0/0 KB.
2) Almost one whole month to get some tech feedback? Really?
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I may be wrong, but I believe that the gasmask skin only works on normal armor, no on aquatic armor…
Anyway, I do prefer that any skin won this way (LS reward, or anything like it) go straight to the achievement reward tab.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
“-repair”: Tried it, and didn’t work…
Languages: I can’t pass the starting screen. I can change languages there?
Any other idea?
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Remember that “soloable” doesn’t means “you can do it EASILY all by yourself”. You need to be carefull, and have a lil’ bit of luck.
I had been able to reach the final event by myself (sweating blood) and with one friend (kinda easy). But uberman is right: it seems that you do need a group/zerg to do the final event. At least, the event is beyond my solo- capacities.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Each time someone says “Necro is a crappy class”, I heard “you need to be a superb player to play a necro!”.
Yes, I want necros to be improved, a lot, and to have their niche in the game… but in the meantime, each time I win a match, I know that I did it with a highest difficulty level… and that makes me extra happy. XD
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
All the balance issues aside, the simple answer is: Because Necromancers are a ranged class
So it does mean they don’t need as much Health, armor and regeneration as a Melee class. They event get to do more damage than you for the exact same reason, because they don’t have as much DPS up-time as ranged classes….
I disagree about that the necro is a ranged class. In GW2, every class have melee and ranged weapons and skills, so that you can play the way you prefer. Necros have the DS and the staff, true, but that doesn’t mean that we must use only them. As a matter of fact, I play my necro very melee-ish, using Dagger/Dagger as my main weapons.
Almost every necro agree that the necro-weapon that makes the most dps is the dagger (melee) or the axe (short range). So, I don’t believe that is correct to say that the necro is a ranged class.

One week after, and still waiting for some help on this.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
First of all, the LS should not focus on only one thing, but should affect a lot of zones. Some invasions with Tyria’s Joker, something new at Southsun, and a new pirates attack, all in the same update. The world doesn’t change one part at a time, do you know?
Second, some of the LS should be permanent. Sure, the invasions ended, but the pirates attack changed the attacked town, and the new boss at Southsun is there to stay.
And third, yes, we want more dragons. We want to be heroes. Give us the chance of doing something heroic.

I am playing GW2 on my laptop with WXP without problem. I installed it on my desktop with W8, and the installation process ended ok. But when I start the game, the launcher tries to update, but it freezes at 0 / 0 KB and never moves.
My desktop is a Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 2.00GHz, 2 GB RAM, W8 32 bits x64.
I tried everything I found on the forums (download it again, checked for firewall, checked for antivirus, run as Admin, run ir renaming the file Gw2.tmp, and so on), but unsuccessfully.
I undo those changes, and then I ran NCSoft Game Advisor, and got the attached txt file.
What can I do to play the game?

Because it is a -living- story, as it it evolves and changes. It would hardly be a living story if it remained the same for years and years.
That isn’t really true. “Living” means that some things happens, all right, but it isn’t necessary that they go away as soon as possible. They can, effectively, remain in the world.
So, new dungeons, new zones, new adventures… can come and go, or come and stay…

You can use Staff. It has some AoE, and its auto-attack has cleave.

+100… Same feelign here.
ANet, you already did the job of modelling the armor. Just let us fight using it! Give it to us as armor’s skins! Most of us never ever use the town clothes!
The last fight against the bloody prince isn’t even that hard. It can even be soloed. I remember last year, where you had to fight the Mad King
Let’s see what they will bring us with the last half of Halloween’s LS. :-s
Sorry, I thought you meant the opening instance. Since I didn’t grind, I don’t have the mini to see the rest.
The closing instance is more or less the same thing, same length, same overall “difficulty”. Only that this time we do hit the Prince.

My main concern is how the minions fare against a dungeon’s boss and its aoes. Anybody had tested it already? Comments?
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I really think we should have an attack button for the minions, but NO stop attacking button.
Agree on the non-stop carnage, but I don’t want them to be directed neither. Just make them attack the same exact target I am attacking at the moment: if I switch targets, so do them.

Scythe and Crossbow for my necro please!
I still don’t see the need for a scythe: we already have the staff, that goes scythe-like when you use a skill with it, and other classes shouldn’t use a scythe too often. But the crossbow is a very good idea indeed!
