Do you have the three purple crystals you need? They drop from bosses (champions, I believe) during the fight. Without them, the asura can’t open the portal to Scarlet.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
They can still sell the crystals. You always need more of them.

Norn get tattoos added with the Wraith mask, if you pass the mask to a Human toon, they’ll get the white-eye effect without any extra embellishment.
Sorry to hear that… those white eyes were the last touch to my necro. :-s I hope they take away the green mask soon.
Thanks for your answers, guys!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Hi there!
My main is a Male Norn Necro. I create a new necro (Female Sylvari) to get the Wraith Mask, after mixing it with a white mask. So far, so good…
The problem is that my norn now have the white eyes, but also a “green mask” that I hate. I am a necro, not Robin.
Isn’t there anything we can do to delete that “green mask” effect and keep just the eyes? Any way to change its color?
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I think commander tags hurt here more than they help since people do tend to follow the tags instead of splitting up to 5-10 man teams and clearing the events faster.
Commander tags are a big help. Yeah, people tend to follow the tag (isn’t it the idea?) and form groups to figth what otherwise could be an unbeatable mob.
I believe the best course of action is to have more than a commander on each map, and that all of them split over the mobs. And I want to add that “following a commander” is not only going after him, but also following his commands.

“Soak all aoe”… sounds sooo nice! Only that, and I will be back to Minionmancer in a blink.
And the best of all? The tons and tons of threads with everybody shouting “YOU ARE OP!!!! ARGHHHH!” at us.

Is is viable, but very slow. While leveling you normally go 1vs1 with mobs, and since you don’t do too much dmg yet, the mobs will get to you. I suggest ANY power- or minion-based build to level up, instead.
And yes, Afya, I hate scepter too.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I tried the wraith mask on my necro to have the white eyes, but I hate the “green mask”. I am a necro, not Robin. Isn’t there anything we can do to delete that “green mask”?

I would LOVE a shield. The trouble would be as to how you could make it fit Mesmer. Hell with the fact that Greatsword is a range weapon they could do something insane/different for Mesmer
Mesmer, the class where the melee weapons are ranged weapons, and viceversa!
So, we can throw the shield a la Captain America, and use gun-foo with our pistols! yay!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Well of Wells: It cast all the necro’s wells at once! yay!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I also love the MM, and is really nice to roam the wilderness on PvE, but in dungeons and other boss-oriented places, the minion value is almost zero.
Demonic Spirit, I am happy for you if you are the LMS in dungeons. That says that you are a very good player. But I doubt that your minions are helping you out on that, since normally they will die with the first aoe strike of the boss.
Manzazuu, the condimancer is probably the most-used necro build, and is very strong in DoT in big fights. Use of scepter is almost required, but you have some freedom in the other weapons (although imho the staff is a must-be in almost every necro build).
I tried to play a condimancer, but I found it very slow killing single enemies, so I switch to a powermancer (with tough, not prec), and had been happy since then.
I suggest to you that pick a condimancer and a powermancer builds from the forum (there is a thread for the builds) and test them yourself. And when you decide which one you like the most, then start adding them your personal touches.

Power rangers are horrible.
Do you prefer Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Asking for raising 10 undeads at a time is too much, isn’t it?
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
This LS was really fast to complete. I play 1-2 hrs daily, and in 3-4 days I already had it, since even the dailies gives you achievements towards it. So, 2 weeks to 1 month shouldn’t be a problem, even with casual players.
Besides, guys, the LS prizes aren’t sooooo life-changing. If you fail to get a mini or a bag with coins, what’s the problem? The game is still there, and you can keep enjoying it.
imho, the problem here is that you don’t enjoy the game per sé, but rush through it trying to get every achievement. Stop running, and start enjoying this beautiful game. Enter the LS and read the story, and if you complete it or don’t, is secondary.
Once said that, it sounds like a good idea to keep the best parts of the game as fractals or something like that. You can’t keep ALL the temporary content (or our game client will grow and grow and grow…) but it should be nice to keep some dungs and events in a time-warping-zone or something like that. C’mon, guys, we have the technology and the magic: why not?
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I believe the main problem is that we still don’t love GW2’s Tyria. The designers, the devs, the game, don’t let us love it, because of the stories and the npcs.
For example, your ruler must be loved, a ruler to die for, or hated, a ruler that will kill you if you fail. But the current queen kittens. You can’t love her, nor hate her… she’s only a nuissance, a rag-doll queen.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
What a great answer! thx, Sylentir!!!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Hi, guys.
I just hit lvl 80 with my Engi, and I am trying to select the best equipment to equip her.
My traits are 30/20/20/0/0, and I am a reaaaaally big fan of grenades and flamethrowers. So, with those weapons in mind, which set of armor should I wear?
I was thinking about two options: Invaders (Pow, Tou, Vit) and Carrion (Cond, Pow, Vit). The first set gives me a really good raw damage output, and good armor and hp to tank. The second set gives some really good damage to my conditions, and a nice damage and hp, to a more hybrid damage approach.
Should I focus on direct damage, or should I focus on condition damage (remember that changing my weapons is not an option.)? Or should I use a mix of both? Or is there a armor set that is better to me that the two I said above?
Thanks for your help!

Kind of flowery for a nec i guess
9/10: Yep, kinda flowery, but i sooo like her feeling of ethereality. I really believe she can talk with the departed’s souls. Is as fine a sylvari necro can be.
Here’s mine. Morbridae, Norn Necro. I tried to keep the colors “real”.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I find it odd that not more people do complain.
We did, but some time ago, when the patch just came out. We complain, we complain, no one answered anything, and then we accept and go on.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
If my ranger is a kitten-looking charr, I will not go for a bow that shoots unicorns, rainbows, candies and hearts. It would be nice that I could choose between rainbows, leaves or skulls, for example.
And the fire-based dagger looks really nice, but I have something against necros with fire weaponry, so if I could change the fire-like yellow for ice-like white, or shadow-like black, probably I will want the legendary a bit more.
Giving us more choices will make us look more for the legendaries. Right now, I will not search for a weapon as powerfull as the one I have, and with a look that doesn’t really suits my character concept.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
@Morbridae: But before I go getting sucked into necro, I want to make sure the profession has variety and viability. I don’t care about dps-meters but I want to make sure I can mess around with my necro and bring some useful and fun tools to the party.
I had played almost all the classes in-game, and my personal favorite is still the necro, my main. I enjoy a lot playing with it, but it may probably be because it suits my playstyle, so I don’t know if you will enjoy it.
At least, I am not alone in it: everybody says it’s a crappy class, every update they nerf us… and still, we necro-players keep playing and rockin’ on.
Necros are “known” for not bringing support to the party, at least directly; besides, everything the necro does, arguably another class do it better. That’s not exactly true, since the necro helps not buffing the party, but applying conditions to mobs… even the conditions already at your party-mates.
But as a whole, I find that necros do a good damage, and have a very good survivability. I tested a lot of builds for necro, and I normally play a powermancer with mostly Pow/Tou/Vit, and normally I take the mob’s agro, and also is normal that I am the last man standing.
imho, try the necro. You will enjoy it.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
1. You can’t net each 10g/day by playing 1h in average.
Well, I believe it’s possible. Right now, dungeon runs give 1-3 golds each, and some people do them in under 10 mins, so it is possible to easily get 10 g/day doing only dungeon runs, and I am not even selling the loot.
3. I don’t do farming und I might run one dungeon a week with my guild. We enjoy the game, we don’t ‘work’ it.
What a great quote! “We enjoy the game, we don’t ‘work’ it”. You nailed it!
Me and my guildies do dungeons in almost an hour, maximum 1 dung/day. Is not good to “work” them, but we enjoy it!
4. To sum up 3000 gold in ten month is not playing ‘a bit’ effeciently, its hard labor grinding if you ask me.
I have 7 months playing, and I believe I only got something like 100 golds… Go figure.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
By now, if you had read this forum, you should have a good idea about the changes made to necro. But there is only a good way to test how them affect you: Pick up again your necro, and test it yourself. Is the only way to judge if you like or dislike the changes.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Necros are good at detecting good GW2 players. Remember than each time someone says “necros are a crappy profession”, he is really saying “you need to be a really good player to use a necro in a competitive way”.
Conversely, when someone says “my char’s profession is soooo easy”, he is really saying… well, you know.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
The problem is more than just the beard or the hairy chest (that yes, I do think they need, btw), or other cosmetic things (scars, please!!!). Is a base model problem.
I would espect norns to be more hulk-like (and I mean like The Hulk, from Marvel Comics). The Hulk is not only a “big human”: his body doesn’t have the same measures than a “normal” human body. When I play The Hulk in a video-game, I know I am not playing a human (my main is a norn, and I forgot that when first playing it: I just assume that the animals were too little. Even now, I feel like I am a human and the humans are halflings or hobbits!).
If you don’t want something that beefy, you can ask for the norns to be more “earth-elemental-like”, more slow, more wide… But it needs to convey their awesome strength just by seeing them!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Is there any posibility that Necro isn’t the best in anything, but is a good second place overall?
I mean, it may not do as much dps as a warrior, but does more than other classes? And may not have as much defense as a guardian, but have more than other classes? Something like this… (1: best, 3: worse, and please remember that this table is only provided as a quick example: the numbers probably are wrong)
Warrior: DPS: 1; Defense: 2; Conditions: 3; Buffs: 3 = Overall: 2.25
Guardian: DPS: 3; Defense: 1; Conditions: 3; Buffs: 2 = Overall: 2.25
Mesmer: DPS: 3; Defense: 3; Conditions: 2; Buffs: 1 = Overall: 2.25
Necro: DPS: 2; Defense: 2; Conditions: 2; Buffs: 3 = Overall: 2.25
Maybe we are wishing/fighting for the necro to be the best at something, when it really is a good second place (something like the Bard class in D&D), something that doesn’t shines in anything, but can help in most places, unlike some others more especialized classes… What do you think?
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Let me start by saying I’ll never be satisfied with the Ranger class until it’s a RANGEr.
I believe that the ranger got its name not because of its ranged attacks, but because they can do ranged missions, as in soloing into a jungle or another dangerous place, to scout or kill something.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
yea but that’s our choice, why would it bug arenanet if OUR client has addons? it doesn’t affect them in any way
Not really. First, let remember than when you bought the game, you agreed to the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement. So, you are bound by it, as with many other software applications and games. You can read it here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-user-agreement/
Moreover, when you “bought” it, you really get a use license (Guild Wars 2 User Agreement’s chapter 2.c). That means that NCSoft let you use it, but it isn’t “yours”. So you can’t modify it.
Besides that, the user agreement explicitly says (Guild Wars 2 User Agreement’s chapter 8) that you cannot use, or provide others with, any software related to the Game, including any automation software (a.k.a. “bot”) or software designed to change or modify operation of the Game, nor any “hack,” “cheat,” “exploit” or “mod”.
Enjoy. :)

I would prefer a expansion or a 6 month content release schedule rather than the LS. I have no issue with not having an expansion. But this games Main story needs to start progressing.
I know some people enjoy minigames and such. But it’s not my idea of fun.
+1000
We can still get some minigames every two or four weeks, if you wish, but nothing too polished or worked out.
And then, every 6 months, the great expansion that REALLY changes the current history!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I love how many weapons we have in this game, and some of them are truly awesome. But yes, many others are just blah or plain disgusting.
Since GW1 have a good weapons stock, ANet could just add them to GW2, affectively doubling the GW2 weapon stock by adding some already-designed weapons.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
To measure how much damage does any of my attacks, and compare it to any of your attacks, we should use the same target, don’t we?
Since each target have different toughness, hitting one or another will result in more or less damage applied to the target, isn’t it?
I suggest using a Pink Moa. Because. You can suggest the place and level.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
Welcome to the most fiery forum battle ever.
No one of us (necros) understand why, and no one of them (devs) steps in front to explain why, of God, why?
So… just relax and enjoy. And remember that each time someone tells us that necro is a crappy class, they are also saying that we are hardcore players, just for using it.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I normally choose Toughness over Vitality: better to ignore the damage before it hits you, isn’t it?
I normally moves between MM and Powermancer. For both, I use full Soldier gear (Power main, Toughness, Vitality).
Currently I am looking for a way to raise my precision… of course, without losing anything else. :P

Necro downed == Necro killed. The fear only affects not-so-big-mobs: you will never put a champion on the run. And the life stealing is a joke: the 4 skill heals you more than the life stealing! It should be (imho) as good as the Ranger pet’s heals.

Jagged horror are just fine. The problem is that, at low levels, they die too fast to be useful. But at high levels, they live for a long time.

Why less lag? Probably the korean players alone will add more players than EU and US together! XD
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
It would have been so easy for them with this living story too…
I love your idea to unite PvE and WvW!
Another option could be to put 4 PvE, 2 PvP and 4 WvW tiers on the daily, so that all players should enter at least two play-modes to finish it. Same idea with the monthly.
Or you can make one alter another… for example, if some WvW fortress is on an enemies’ hands on WvW, then some events in PvE simply doesn’t start. And while some boss in PvE is alive, then some npc race at WvW is invulnerable.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I still see only few Necros in wvsw, but i see toons of Guardians on wvsw. Thar really means not necro are on the top but guardians. (…) Necro just die to fast in “bad fights” and noone like to play a class where is no options to real escape, and yu need to take almost all the hits on your chest.
I love to play necro, and I don’t want to accept that they are the hardest to play and less “powerful” class… but they are.
Their main problem is not their direct damage, their condition damage, or event their stupid minions. And their high HP and defense are very nice. But they have no chance to escape from damage.
They are slow, they have no extra dodges, no “phantasmal” form to evade attacks, no blocks, no invulnerability, no nothing. From afar, they are ok, but if an enemy get to you, you are in trouble: kill or be killed, but you will need to resist all his attacks.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
First of all, we ARE useful. Never forget it!
Second, I only dream for some decent minions, that at least attack the same target that I am attacking, when (if!) I attack it!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I played my whole necro’s life as some sort of minion master: it was not a killer build, but was very easy to play. When I started doing seriously WvW and dungeons, my minions where more and more innefective (but still very survivable!). And with the last update, I choose to change my build to a powermancer (sort of. 30/10/0/0/30).
I’m still getting used to it, but so far, I am normally the second-to-last to die, and I feel that I am doing a lot more damage, so I’m ok. The only drawback is that now I struggle a lot to heal myself up, since I don’t have minions healing me.
Last nite, I said to my party that I was doing 3500 dmg to a boss, and my comrades said “yay!”, since it was a very good damage. But to other bosses I only do 500 dmg or so.
So, my questions are:
a) When you say “My build does XXXX dmg normally”, you are testing it against which type of mob? Depending on the mob you will make more or less damage, so testing it against different mobs will throw different results.
b) Which dmg is ok to a necro’s powerbuild? I had read of 8000+ dmg, but I don’t know how to reach that number, or against which mob was it tested (see point “a”).
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
I tried a pseudo-minion master build with a lot of life stealing, thinking that the life I steal on my hits, plus the life my minions steal when they hit, should heal me very well.
In short, it doesn’t. In long, it was fun.
In PvE it was glorious: I almost never had to heal myself. But in dungeons you are almost on your own, since most bosses will one-shot all your minions with any AoE. In WvW I held my ground, killing two or three players at once, sometimes, but other times dying fairly fast. I suppose it depends if your minions choose to attack the same target that you did.
Anyway, the healing that the life steals give me was ok, but not very strong. With that I mean that normally it will maintain you healed up, but it can’t help very long against strong attacks.
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)

What part of the aspect of death is ever considered BURNING?!?!?!
