My two sons want to have their own accounts, and due to the fact one of them, using my account, spent 5 of my laurels (!!!!) I’m now inclined to allow it.

However, before I do so, I wanted to make sure it’s the same process. I see how to do it initially, for a new client and all, but how do I go about it with my boys? They each need their own email account, yes? And then I sign them up, and purchase a digital copy, even if I’m not actually downloading it?

I assumed so, but thought I’d make sure before making any mistakes that might cost me some money.

Thanks!

Wait about 5hr or so lol. Do ppl realy post this every time there is a day off from an update?

I understand that, but you got it wrong. This wasn’t because of an update gap: these updates have taken, what, 2 hours to complete each, on average? Hardly enough to keep someone entertained for a month.

If this patch has more content, then awesome.

Thank you everyone for your feedback (minus the one exception); I’ve already done most of what you suggested: I’m in a guild of 480+, plenty of socializing opportunity, done a little pvp, etc etc.

I have started looking at other titles for a “break” period, and will probably take one of those in for my “off” games.

Well, I’m in an odd position where I havent been working, but I’m getting paid anyway: see, my new employer needs a state license to do what I do (he is expanding his business into my line of work), and he desperately needed someone so he could justify starting the licensure.

But the licensure, and required accreditation we have to get after the licensure, takes an average of 3 months. Which means I can’t work for 3 months.

Which means, for some, its a paid holiday… but I’m bored out of my freakin mind!

So I’ve been playing all day, every day… see, I’m also new to the area, haven’t been having much luck making new friends and finding things to do (never had that problem before, but its been a struggle here), so I’ve been gaming almost nonstop since mid march.

And I’m sure thats a major part of the burn out. I desperately need to find other things to do.

So, I joined a gym, gonna try to start working out, maybe do some camping, etc etc.

Well, that was the plan… and I just found out we are probably getting our state licensure Thursday, which means they can partially start working me now, at least, until the accreditation comes through… lol!

So, I’ve done almost everything you can do in the game with a single character, in regards to experiencing something new. In other words, I’m only missing like 4 dungeon paths or so, 100% world, wvw, pvp, all but 4 jumping puzzles, etc.,

I’m closing on all of that now, and with living story having such small amounts of extra content, boredom is starting to set in.

I’m not complaining about the game: this happens with any game. I’m a bit surprised though, as it feels like a huge world, I expected this to take a bit longer.

I’ve been reading the gw2 expansion thread with some amusement, but also vague hope. an expansion is what I need right now. I know, the expansion will likely be some time away, but still….

I crave new experiences. Getting two hours a month from living story just isn’t adequate. Playing new characters of different races helps…, until their stories start to merge down the road.

And grinding for my legendary doesn’t help, hehe

So… I may be taking a break after this next update. But not a hate-filled one. I love gw2, just want more new experiences.

Unless anyone has any suggestions? Something I may have missed?

Ok, so the idea of the living story is fun, but it hardly feels like an entire expansion worth off content., look of the size of Eye of the North.

But setting that aside, we enterred gw2 hearing of the threat of the Elder Dragons, plural. We see all these areas around us on the map, unexplored yet named. We read of two other continents and all the exciting things going on there.

The idea of the living story is fun. But I didn’t come to gw2 to fight some alliance of small timers. I came to war with dragons!

If the living story structure will lead us to fight more elder dragons, open up new regions etc, then I’ll be pleased. But reading that quote earlier that there were no plans for an expansion at this time concerns me.

We are too mighty for dredge. We are too mighty for flame legion. GW2 held the promise of several Elder Dragons. Bring them to us, so we may war with them!

You know, the need for a particular profession in a run of anything only comes up in my guild in a few rare cases: high end FotM, some instances of WvW (“need some mesmers for a golem rush!”) and the like, but its all pretty uncommon.

Everyone gets to run whatever they want to run; one of our officers only runs a necro and an engineer, and a mesmer for jumping puzzles. thats it. And she has a blast.

Frankly, like I said, except in a few specific situations, we don’t care about class at all. I’m surprised other people make such a big deal about it.

Right now I’m salvaging all rares and exos for ecto, except for the staves I’m using to try and get The Legend. As it is I got a single exotic returned so far… then again, I havent had that many rare staves so far, so it wasn’t all that big a difference.

All else I’m missing is the icy lodestones and the tier 6 materials… well, and the ecto So, I’m farming for the mats and ecto, and just combining staves as I get them. I figure once I have all the rest of the materials, THEN I’ll worry about which method I want to use to get my precursor.

However, I am a bit befuddled. I see people advocating for both the rares and the exotics to go into the Mystic Toilet. It’s unfortunate that we don’t have any real, compelling evidence to make an informed decision. I’ve know people who got their precursor for <150 gold in rares, and others who spend >250 gold in rares and still not get it.

I have not, however, heard a lot of stories about exotics being used and what THEIR percentages were. THAT would be intriguing.

a friend of mine spent 200 gold on rares, with enough left to sell back for 50gold.

a friend of mine picked up the chaos gun from a random drop in wvw.

I assume that exotics have a better chance than rares for getting a legendary, the question is how much. if the chance is double, but the cost is four times as much, then the rares is the way to go.

so the question becomes, just how different are the odds using rares vs exotics? I’m assuming no one knows; I would love a developer to tell us, not the actual hard numbers, just the ratio. Twice? Three times? 1.5x?

I would be tickled to know just the ratio between 80 rares & 80 exotics

I never played WOW, but I have a couple friends of mine who were telling me how WOW used to be packed, especially in some cities that they said were far more crowded than Lion’s Arch, now feel empty by that same comparison.

They feel that WOW is getting desperate to get subscribers back, emailing out free x day offers and such. I don’t know, never been there, so I can’t say for myself, just found it interesting.

Don’t kid yourself. WoW is still the king of the hill and will be for some time to come. I don’t think it’s a great game for my play style..but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad game. On the other hand, I do think that being on top for a long time tends to make you complacent.

That doesn’t mean its population hasn’t dropped significantly. I’m not saying it has, or hasn’t for that matter, just repeating what some friends told me.

The animosity comes more strongly from the wow community saying they play the best game of all time and it will always be gold. I just wanted some clear heads on the subject. My friend not being one of them lol. Wows dungeons are more boring and afk in my opinion. They didnt create paths and each dungeon got boring after 3 runs. Gw offers alot more replayability. And they hold difficulty. I tanked all wow dungeons half asleep.

GW2 had the first dungeon that actually has a boss you can afk during the entire encounter, doesn’t get much more boring then that. It’s a matter of opinion.

Try it with some of the other bosses though. We’re not comparing boss to boss, we’re comparing the whole feel of the dungeons.

I’m not a fan of the trinity system and never have been. It’s one of the things in the past that has prevented me from enjoying MMOs. It’s always felt too contrived.

Not just contrived; if you were missing a component leg of that tripod, you had to wait until one appeared. Even GW1 had that problem, watching groups shoutiong out LF monk/ritualist to go! forever…

GW2 doesnt require that, and it’s a genuine pleasure not to have to wait for that one specific class/role before diving in.

My issue with WoW has very little to do with WoW itself.

It has to do with WoW’s staggering success, which everyone went out and copied. For a long time, no matter what game you were playing, it was a variation on WoW…and I didn’t enjoy WoW.

So MMO after MMO was a disaster, not because of WoW, but because everyone copied it to get a piece of the pie. That’s probably why I like Guild Wars 2 so much. It’s the first MMO I’ve played that doesn’t feel like WoW.

Replace WOW with Everquest, and it’s felt the same for me for over 13 years now

GW2 is the first game for me that really felt different from EQ and every single game that followed; with the possible exception of the three superhero games, but really, those were just different skins, same playstyle.

Actually, to add on to my previous post, these same friends told me about how they had to continue to run the gear treadmill, and that guilds would have mods that they would run to monitor what your dps was for instance, or even how well the healers were healing, and if you were under or OVER healing, you were kicked from the guild.

Lord, that sounds like hell to me. I cannot fathom participating in that level of elitism; if that’s what WOW is like, why in the name of god would anyone find pleasure in playing it (other than similar elitists of course).

That’s what I love about GW2 so much; the gear treadmill is pretty flat; the addition of Ascended gear was a bit of a mistake, but they have mitigated it with the ability to purchase these items now with things like laurels and guild commendations.

And although a small amount of elitism has crept into the corners – I’m hearing stories now of speed COF runs requiring people to bring specific classes and to link their gear, and if they dont match the ideal stats getting kicked – it appears to be mostly on the sidelines, and therefore not effecting the average player.

Now, I AM a bit bored with the end game content… meaning that there isn’t much per se. They need to improve that.

However, overall, I’m quite pleased with the game, and find it the best MMO design thus far.

Morfedel.4165

I just recently started playing engineer, and just got him to 33; I hadn’t even read what the old kit refinement did, so I’m not losing anything.

What I DID notice was the magnetic bomb; something I REALLY like because I am entranced with playing a bomb build; being able to suck my enemies in, lay down a glue bomb followed by big ol bomb just seems like fun to me.

Then again, like I said, I don’t even know what the old KR trait did, so I don’t know what I’m missing….

Ok, I went and checked. It does seem like a bit of a nerf, but it doesn’t seem so bad. For example, the throw mine for grenade kit… I love using throw mine anyway, its fun for AOE knockbacks (and I gotta tell ya, we JUST TODAY were defending a fort against invaders in wvw, and I was using throw mine with a whole stack of us on the ramp to the Lord, and I was throwing them left and right, it was awesome heh), and I see the value in sense of most of the changes.

MOST. Not all. Then again, if I’d been playing with KR the way it used to be, who knows, maybe I’d be unhappy too.

pvp vs pve dye?

in Players Helping Players

Morfedel.4165

Ok, so working on my legendary bifrost, requires 250 unidentified dyes. I’ve been collecting them…

for the second time since game went live, I went and did some spvp and got three unidentified dyes. I thought AWESOME, ok.

Until I discovered I could not merge the stacks; the pve dyes have listed available for crafting, the pvp do not. I do not see a distinguishing explanation on the tooltip like you do for pvp armor, so I wondered if this was a bug, or if this only unlocks the dyes for pvp, or what?

I’m hesitant to do anything with them until I find out what the deal is; I’d like to use them for my legendary, of course, but if the stacks cant be merged, they are worthless for that particular effort.

Thanks in advance!

my browser keeps crashing everytime I click reply, so I will have to cut and paste.

Pyro:

" Actually, your analysis is a bit flawed. No matter whether or not you are stacking the effect of the mage with the rest of your confusion, it still has the same individual effect. Whether or not you already have 15 stacks of confusion on the target, it still only adds 3 more for 3 seconds, and those 3 stacks objectively have the same amount of value as if they were the only 3 stacks on the target."

it is not in the slightest bit flawed. it is easy to take 1 element out of a build and use it stand alone as an example of why it is weak. but in a build, everything works together. Sometimes you find a synergy that works better together than apart.

3 stacks for 3 seconds on in hansed is a bit weak. but having 3 of them out, plus your own personal sources, and it all adds up

it is all about additive effect. I like to use a building that uses as much confusion and retaliation as possible, and this add it up to more impressive Heights,

and by the way, it works great for me. if it hasn’t worked as well for you, maybe it’s your build and not the skill that’s the problem

Couple of torch questions

in Mesmer

Posted by: Morfedel.4165

Morfedel.4165

@Everyone: Go back and read my post earlier in the thread, you seem to have ignored what I wrote about the Mage, but I’ll address a few things here.

The Mage doesn’t perform any better in confusion bomb builds, or condie builds. It is still useless. 3 seconds of confusion is completely worthless. Most confusion builds have at least +70% confusion duration so that the confusion actually lasts a reasonable time. The Mage ignores that, staying at 3 seconds of confusion. Completely worthless.

As far as the retaliation damage, 3 seconds is more than worthless. In 3 seconds, your enemy is unlikely to do more than 3 hits. The total damage from retal in a condie build will be around 600-700 damage. Worthless. Additionally, you can’t control when that retal is applied, and since it is applied with confusion, that makes it even less likely that you will get any benefit out of it. On top of that, using sword/focus gives you highly reliable 14 seconds of retaliation from the leap combo. Anyone who uses the torch for retaliation needs to get their head examined.

Overall, the Mage is worthless. It’s not better in certain builds. If anything, it shows how bad it is even more in confusion builds. It’s on the longest cooldown of any phantasm with a horribly placed cd trait so almost no one takes it, so it is completely useless even for shatter fodder. It is the worst skill of any weapon on any class in the entire game, with no competition.

The mage also gets two bounces with its attack. Not once, twice. Plus, with phantasmal haste it attacks once every 4.8 seconds, not quite keeping it on all the time, but keeping it more than not. Plus, while by itself its worthless, when stacking with all the rest of the confusion you cause, it’s another story entirely.

By itself, sure. But it’s part of an overall larger build. Stacking with the rest of the confusion and retaliation I already do with my confusion build, its a great add-on.

Again, I didn’t say its the best choice. I’m saying its not crappy.

I just spent 462000 karma on rabid gear, if they nerf confusion I’m gonna quit playing.

/w: what they should change is how conditions arw displayed. The bar changes so quickly that it’s really hard to see what’s going on.

What’s really funny? Things like stun, knockback, Daze, etc, literally stop you from playing almost completely for a couple seconds. Meanwhile unless someone has a seriously dedicate confusion build, it just DAMAGES you for doing stuff for a few seconds, as opposed to shutting you down completely.

And there are plenty of ways to wash off conditions. Just take one effing condition removal skill, and wash the thing off. Heck, there are a couple of skills that flat out remove multiple or all conditions, or change them to boons, or tranfer them to foes, or….

Lots of options. Just explore them.

Phantasmal mage goes great in a confusion build, especially as it adds retaliation to the mix.

It gets no + cond duration from builds. Even assuming you land it on a player in wpvp, AND they are dumb enough to attack during all 3 stacks, it does less dps then the other phantasms..

When combined with Retaliation as well that the thing grants? Are you sure?

I’m not being sarcastic here, I really haven’t tabulated the effect; but let’s say you are doing a duel against one other character, so you can be sure where the bounces will go; I already use other sources to generate both retaliation AND confusion, and the P.M just adds more to it – are you sure, in that case, that it isn’t worthy? Do you have the math to back it up, or is it speculation?

I’m willing to be convinced, just show me the numbers.

Make "Hard Rev" Skills More Viable

in Suggestions

Posted by: Morfedel.4165

Morfedel.4165

Hard Revival skills (see http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Revive#Skills_that_revive_allies) in their current state are, while not quite useless, pretty near it in most cases. It’s rare to see anybody take them.

The reasons most people don’t equip them are:

1) If the battle is easy enough, they can revive the old-fashioned way mid-battle.
2) If the battle is too hard, the downed character may very well be outright killed before you target them and use the hard revival skill, much less revive the normal way, leaving the others to just let the character die; this is most common in encounters with dungeon bosses who will continually hit the target when downed, doing far too much damage too fast for the target to mitigate.
3) Many perceive taking another utility skill that might improve both self- and party-wide survivability to prevent going down in the first place a more viable alternative.

In regards to #2, you will see this most often in fights such as with Subject Alpha, where revivals are only possible the old fashioned way if you stack melee on the target; trying to do groups and NOT stack on melee is a disaster unless the entire group dodges perfectly: one person goes down, your failure to stack means you can’t revive him, and if you brought a revival skill, its doubtful if you can find the one in question and hit him with it before the next AOE finishes him off; why take, therefore, a hard rev skill if a utility will serve better, especially allowing for more varied tactics in the meantime?

Further, dead characters are flat out gone, especially in dungeons where rez rushing is now prevented; reviving a character from death is pretty much impossible in many cases.

It seems to me there are one of a few solutions available:

1) Change the AI so that downed/dead characters and those reviving them are not targetted unless nothing else is available; this doesn’t fix hard rev skills, however, and it doesn’t seem like an easy solution.
2) Move the hard rev skills to the healing skill slot, and add in a self-heal component. This is very appealing in that you can take a skill that heals AND revives at the same time.
3) Add an ability to revive the defeated as well, perhaps at a lesser effect.
4) Combine 2 & 3 together

So, just a couple examples of how you might implement #3 and have some fun with it:

Signet of Undeath: Keep the revive of downed characters as listed, with the following addition – Defeated characters are likewise revived, but with the effect “Free-Willed Minion” applied. Character is transformed into an undead minion of the necromancer with free will, his or her skills replaced with a different selection of attacks. Once the minion’s health is fully restored, the character returns to his normal state.

Illusion of Life: Each character up to 3 in the area of effect is restored to full health, downed or defeated. Each character takes up one of the Mesmer’s illusion slots, two if the character had been defeated, and is transformed into an Illusion with a single skill, the mesmer’s #1 skill slot when revived, looking like the mesmer as well. When the Mesmer performs a shatter, each character is returned to his normal state.

Ok, I haven’t thought those through completely, not sure if they would work, but by implementing an ability to revive both defeated and downed characters would be nice; adding on an additional thematic component is just gravy.

The #2 option is probably a bit more doable however. In either case, though, I would like to see the revive skills get a revive defeated component – THAT alone would make these skills worthwhile.

Phantasmal mage goes great in a confusion build, especially as it adds retaliation to the mix.

Something need to be done about Confusion.

In the grand scheme of conditions, confusion really does need a nerf. It’s way too OP compared to the other conditions. It’s easier to survive 25 stacks of bleeding than it is to survive 10 stacks of confusion.

As a matter of fact, it doesn’t. One condition remover washes the whole thing off, it’s duration is extremely low,, etc.

I tell you what is really nice though, confusion combined with retaliation , especially with phantasmal guardian with retaliation too. Now THAT is a nice combo.

Confusion doesn’t suck if you build for it.

Confusion isn’t overpowered either, it has a short duration and every class had methods of condition removal. plus you can turn auto attack off.

Seriously, if you don’t choose to employ some basic defensive options, don’t blame the game.

Hard Rez Skills Not Being Used?

Ok, so here is a link to the wiki of the skills that revive characters directly: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Revive#Skills_that_revive_allies

Does anyone ever really use these? I have watched carefully and tried to use my own (Illusion of Life = Mesmer here), and I rarely see any of these skills being used.

But I’m just one person. Do any of you use these skills regularly, or see someone else use them?

That being said…

Subject Alpha is a tough cooky for sure. We have some cool plans for him in the future. When we are looking at bosses our intent is not to nerf them – but to make them a more enjoyable experience while keeping up with the challenge that we want our explorable dungeons to be.

One of the more interesting concepts I have for Subject Alpha is that every encounter with him is different, and that he has a wide array of abilities that he selects from before each fight randomly, resulting in a lot of dynamic play, and resulting in subject Alpha having tons of possible builds that he could randomly select from or morph into as the fight progresses.

Robert, that would be awesome.

in the meantime however I would like to see him retooled so that multiple tactics are more effective is well.

right now, there’s only 1 tactic that seems to be very effective, and that is the ubiquitous stack melee. it solves the problemS of otherwise being unable to break someone out of crystal or res before alpha kills them with the next attack.

If there was some way to make it less painful to res or break out of crystal , then perhaps other tactics would be explored.

my single biggest suggestion is to make the hard res skills more effective. as it stands right now, I almost never see anyone use a hard res skill.

for example, what if you changed the hard res skills so that they work on both downed and dead characters, at different levels of effectiveness, we might to see those skills used more often, and allow for a little bit more breadth of tactics in various situations where currently only one is used.

just an idea.

Ok I will add you then because it would be nice to see other paths but very discouraged from anything but the sub path atm lol. I only run it when my husband is off so it would be 2 of us :p If he didn’t need the tokens I would not go back to this on lol.

Sure, I’ll add you too.

The big problem with fighting subject alpha is timing your dodges. Get that down and that’s 90% if the battle. The other 10% is not bringing a glass cannon: empress your dodges are perfect, you’ll go down first time you miss a dodge. I run a bunker build on there, pretty hefty, I never get one-shotted, so if I screw up a dodge I have the chance to recover.

I’ve never done the 3-in-1, wanted to try it once just to do it. I don’t like exploits, but it’s fun to see something new just the once.

They being said, however, u see nothing wrong with the stacking in melee for a couple reasons:

1) even at your best, you may not dodge perfectly, and can die right then and there. of course that depends on the build, but constant risk of 1 shotting is a little weary, when you take into account the next point;
2) if you aren’t a stacked in melee, it is kitten hard to res someone or free them of crystals. the AOEs appear so often even saving someone from downed before the next aoe kills them AND you is difficult if you aren’t working as a team to free them. stacking in melee just makes it easier to prevent a party wipe.

that being said, even stacking in Malay is the perfect solution. people mess up, sometimes Dodges are mistimed, and if not everybody on the team is experienced, then death after death after death can follow.

I’ve been in parties wear maybe 1 person dropped each battle total, and others where the party wiped over and over and over again. as such, I have no problem with the stack in melee tactic. when thats tactic becomes an I win button, then I will look for a more challenging way to fight him.

I went into path 2 today for the first time. I have to say that fight was really hard. We do CoE because my husband wants the meteorologist legendary and needs the tokens. I have about a stack from running CoE with him and every group always runs the sub path. We wondered if we would ever see another path.. well today we did and did not complete the dungeon. We tried to do the dodge correctly -and could keep it up for a bit but never completed this fight.

Sure it is L2P and we need to get the mechanics, but how many groups are willing to die while you learn? Not many. Can you honestly say that you did not die after only 5 attempts? Maybe a few players can but for most- I would be willing to bet -need more than 5 trys on this boss to learn it but by that time your group is gone.

Probably will not attempt this path again because honestly I would rather just go through the sub path and know we will finish.

My group is willing to take newcomers & work with you to learn it. I’ll asbury, it isn’t an ready fight to learn but, once you have, it’s not that hard. Stereo learning curve, punishing failures, but once over the top it’s downhill from there.

Look me up in game. We’ll take you.
