From what I remember, you could be using the very highest lvl gear in GW1 and the “Hard Mode” in the low level areas would eat you alive and spit out your remains if you were careless.

This game has nothing in common with GW1, besides the lore (not that I got over it).

I am pretty sure they are not allowing transmutations across different armor/weapon types. It would be problematic in PvP, where you will need to be able to identify the enemy’s class without having to click on them.

A guardian will be able to play pvp in cheff outfit, apparently, so why not in light armor?

[VOTE] Is Guild Wars 2 heading a good way?

No

Massive grinds, zerg-friendly content, skip-and-hide-in-corner-dungeons, only damage builds supremacy, gemstore direction, fugly unrealistic armor/weapon skins and weak, very weak story = not good but hey they can hide behind the “fastest selling” thing so what do I know.

None complained about any of this via release. People are just getting bored. If you actually disliked all of this and still played the game and actually bother checking the forums now, I have no comment.

Because after release all of this wasn’t so blatant, to me at least. I’m saying I don’t like the direction this is taking. It’s disheartening, I see this attitude a lot in the forums “if you complain so much why don’t leave, go play something else, everything’s fine here”. There’s things that I like, of course, which is why I stick around. And while I do, I will have an opinion.

I don’t think ArenaNet created the elitists, they’re in every game And they’ll always find a way to pick who they team with: gear, reputation… AP. whatever. On the other hand, everyone’s entitled to choose who they spend their time with, so you can’t exactly blame them neither. Just make your own group or join a more… “casual” one.

If I cared about cash grabs I’d be working at Zynga where they design based on MTX. We don’t do that here. I’m trying to make SAB (And I mean SAB, not the GW2 rewards, achievements, titles, MTX, etc) a good, solid, fun game. That’s my focus.

Woah I don’t know where to start. 1. You don’t do that here? Infinite coin anyone? 2. Here’s a free idea for you. I’m sure there’s a group of playes that enjoy Zynga games so why not bring them in GW2 too? Let players in WvW after taking a keep open a restaurant in it and customize their menu and stuff. That would be like, so innovative and rule-breaking!

You are right. The whole jumping puzzle thing is an attempt to integrate the platform genre into an mmo. GW1 or 2 are not typical mmos, I’ll give you that. But to me, of course this is just my opinion, it’s rather sad that the resources are being spent only in minigames and temporary content that doesn’t fit much with what a regular GW fan paid for or wants to see added to the game. Like liadri (1v1 fighting mortal combat thing genre), SAB (platforms), or the champion zerging (this may be a new genre on its own, which redefines the definition of group play to: “if someone is dead, link them the nearest WP and keep tagging stuff”).

They aren’t changing the rules of GW2, they are changing the rules of a mode of a minigame developed as a sideproject. It’s not like SAB normal mode (or the rest of GW2 for that matter) doesn’t conform to the standard rules of gaming design.

I know… the minigame itself is not breaking any rule or inventing anything. Apparently it’s a genre on itself. Incorporating it in a mmo is not subverting the rules of art, is buying a coke and finding it’s filled with… dont know, lemonade.

there are fantastic examples of media that purposefully subvert those structures and the fact that the rules are broken is part of what makes them great

Well Josh, when you go watch a David Lynch movie or buy a Bjork album you’re well aware they’re going to subvert structures and break rules. And yeah they’re great. That’s why you buy their art actually. When you buy Guild Wars 2 you know what you’re buying too. Want us to believe that now changing the rules makes it great? In my humble opinion they’re completely different cases.

That explains a lot. You do indeed sound sadistic, which is troubling. What’s the point of investing this much time and effort of development in content that only a handful will enjoy AND come here and brag about it? Can only be sadism. Maybe you could try to make more popular content for the people that bought your game(1), which certainly didn’t buy it expecting this.

(1) New permanent content such as areas, skills, classes, skins, dungeons.

I’d just like to point out DoA in it’s current form (at least earlier this year, and this goes for most of GW1’s elite areas over the years) has been played via exploiting the AI and very niche party set ups and strategies. Most of the “casual” content of GW2 I’ve experience, with big DEs etc are a lot more engaging , exciting and enjoyable than GW1 elite areas, because you didn’t design them to be so hard players searched out really exploitable niche strategies which eliminate all the risks it becomes tank and spank (my last few runs through DoA were exactly this, it gets really boring after a while). Many of the threads I’ve read about taking on certain dungeon bosses have been to pull the boss out of a certain area and DPS it safely from a certain location (on stairs, behind doors etc) which completely removes the challenge and difficulty. This is how GW1 elite areas are done and I really hope this isn’t your intention for GW2 dungeon difficulty because I find that incredibly disappointing, it’s not challenging, it just relies on an exploit which needs to be figured out resulting in it becoming trivial.

One of the worst consequences of GW1 elite are design was it often resulted in classes becoming very undesirable for groups (or, resulting in the same situation, some classes so desirable others couldn’t compete) so some player classes saw no end-game action unless the biggest challenge could be overcome – finding a group with a less optimised class.

Spot on.

Reflects, blinds, interupts, shields ..oh, you only have 1 shield ability? did you know there are several others that you can trigger through combos? That should make staying in melee much easier. There are 5 people in your group, each of which have access to at the VERY LEAST 1 blind 1 knockback/down, and interupts, that, at the VERY LEAST, is up to 15! control abilities that will make it easier to stay in melee.

So instead of “tanking” a mob, we now have to “control” it. Because if you’re hit you’re dead. Fine.
To me this just sounds like ping-ponging, kiting, and chaos. So I guess this is not for me

This is ONE of the ways you can do it, my group simply chilled/immobilized/snared the entire group and killed em slowly with a lot of kiting.
