Hope combined with some degree of disillusionment….

I’d rather a group of at level characters that are willing to learn and are receptive to advice rather than a couple of clueless eighties with hero complexes and inappropriate builds. Had plenty of PUG experiences with both, and care to take a bet on which runs go smoother?

As has been suggested elsewhere, just start you’re own LFG, I think you may be surprised by the quality of experienced runners that prefer those groups and will teach/guide the run.

Getting conveniently specific, aren’t we? Don’t blame you though, you have no other option here.

….

You’re conveniently asking for more and more specific things, when we can get a rough estimate from simple facts when it comes to Anet’s financial situation. We don’t need a full report as you keep pegging me into going into, knowing that obviously I can’t get that.

It’s no more convenient then presuming an assumption is fact just because you want it, or think it to be.

Your coherent argument is really nothing more then a well expressed opinion. Basing it on assumption, conjecture, and speculation, no matter how rational, doesn’t make it any more factual then any other random opinion.

My point is simply this, your contention regarding pricing is nothing more then an opinion. An opinion no better, no worse, then the opinions you original chastised other people from expressing. Perhaps, you should heed your own advice.

No, you’re oversimplifying. If you really want to try and make such a comparison, you’d need to bring in a whole host of associated costs, marketing factors, competition, etc. Cost doesn’t only relate to development/manufacture.

What you offer is pure conjecture regarding the past and present conditions in order to establish some link to validate an otherwise invalid comparison.

Please explain to me, given the equal economies and even higher previous success to fund for future projects, what such difference would there be.

It’s safe to assume given that GW2 is more successful than GW2, AND 10 years ago the American economy was probably worse especially for the IT sectors, that ArenaNet had more resources to develop content than they did before.

You can claim “oversimplified” to dismiss what I’m saying all you want, since it’s easy considering you definitely do need pages and pages or boring reports in order to accurately determine this issue, but you’re going to have to explain how there would be such a large difference in resources against present-day Anet given that Anet is in a much better financial place than they were during GW1.

Burden of proof is on the person putting forth the hypothesis, i.e. – you need to show a how you came to the conclusion that the two pricing structures are comparative.

And the fact is you are oversimplifying – " The American enconmy was worse back then" is the same as saying “Things are better today.”

Also, you’re again making assumptions about the financial status of Anet then and now, as well as their resources. It’d be just as easy to claim that they’re worse off now with respect to resources, market share, competitive advantage.

Simply put, you’re painting a perfect scenario to support your claims without offering anything more than your opinion on how things are or should be.

Referencing past products and pricing practices as a basis for current product, and arguably a vastly different product is not a valid argument.

I used to pay $2 to go the movies, now it’s easily $15-$20. Why should an IMAX experience cost 10x as much as the movies I used to watch? The movies are both made by Paramount, in fact some of them were even longer then 90min. Outrageous.

$50 is the current price of admission. What you got before has no bearing on what is being offered now.

It depends on how far back we’re talking about and the differences in prices and income between the two times. We’re talking about a 10 year differences from now, and wasn’t America worse economically 10 years ago? And didn’t ArenaNet have even more resources from GW1 to make GW2 than they had resources to make GW1?

If so, we can say that the means to make the product, expansions (we’re not talking about anything critically different- we’re still talking about in-game content) are pretty much equal to now as they were 10 years ago, if not easier.

Increasing drop rates isn’t the answer.. then you just create a farm mentality like exists(ed) in much of open world – which was summarily nerfed…

i.e. LFG – “COE P1. Clearing to Champ.” then all exit and rinse and repeat.

Why bother doing the whole path when fast clears of trash will net more gold per hour then a run. Plus, no diminishing returns. People will get kicked for wanting to finish. Then that whole complete/fail tug of war starts.

And no, tokens are rarely an incentive at all at this point.

For what it’s worth, this once did exist in dungeons like Arah and some Fractals where it was worth killing certain trash, but was summarily nerfed.

It depends on how you look at things and what you like to do.

I tell people to save all the + 1 agony resistance they get. You will need 504 of them to make a + 10 agony resistance ( combining them together through crafting )
If you still are keen for fractals when you reach lvl 40 + then you can throw your + 10 into on of your slot’s or you could sell it for gold if you wish.

2 things on this, 1 it’s 512 infusions… >.< but the main thing being that it currently costs more to make the +10 than it is to sell/buy it. (63.8064g vs 59.9975g atm of typing this)(plus you lose 10% of all gold when selling on the tp so you get 53.9976g after tax)

oops 512 =)

Are you sure it’s only a 4g differance though? That’s hard to believe since when your making it yourself, your only buying the merging thingy of the merchant.

If you consider the infusions to be of zero value yes it’s more than 4g but since you can just sell them on the trading post for coin, they are the same as coin so you have to compare crafting it value wise vs buying a crafted one.

While your economics are correct, i think what Sarah was originally suggesting was for the Fractal enthusiast to save their looted infusions, not purchase them, and then craft a +10 once they’ve acquired the necessary amount, the cost of it then being only the reagents (~8g).

One thing to consider if you have a few 80’s is that you can reasonably get 60AR from trinkets alone. This allows youn some flexibility on which one you want to bring to a run just by swapping trinkets – no need to consider weapons or armor for 1-49 runs.

Later on when you can better equip all your alts this is less of an issue, but early on it does give you options.

There is nothing in the game that you can’t do in exotics, outside of maybe level 30+ fractals. Even then if you have a high enough AR in your Backpiece and Rings you can make it.

You get 6 slots for AR from your Jewelry, which with just basic +5 will get you to 30 AR which will get you through level 29 fractals with no complications. If you make an Ascended weapon then you can get to 40 AR which gets you all the way through level 39 fractals.

True… even further, you can infuse 3 of the 6 and slot +10 infusions.. 60AR.. now you’re good for 1-49 w/o crafting a single piece of Ascended.

So pressing a craft button over and over again is effort and deserves reward but being in active content working with other players and actually playing the game is undeserving? There’s no sense in what you’ve said, your’e simply saying that people who have more free time during the day to waste much of it crafting deserve better gear while people who have to work and commute and want to actually play the games challenging content with the time they have can F off with exotics.

It’s a player’s choice how they want to spend their time. Run a couple of dungeons, run a fractal, do some WvW or craft their ascended.

It’s not a question of having more time, it’s a question of how that player chooses to spend the time they have. Prioritization is different for everyone and the rewards for how that time is spent are also personal choice.

The crafter sacrifices immediate gain, versus say a dungeon run, for a longer term investment.

For both contents i will say Mesmer and Ele because they are 2 of 4 hottest classes in dungeon/team play as well as in pvp but they pretty hard to play.

Elementalist if you play it wrong there will be consequences you end up sucked at everything and get you bored to death.

Mesmer is a little bit easier than ele but slow movement speed is their fatal.

Don’t bother Necro and Thief because they are not for pve especially dungeon.

Really don’t know where you got that, but Thief is very good… especially for dungeons and fractals. Ele x2 – Thief trios are setting some crazy times right now. And is part of the 5-man meta now.

At the casual/enthusiast tier, thief brings a lot to the table.

As for general PvE, any class is fine. Play what you enjoy the most.

OP: you can’t go wrong with any of your choices… you’ll eventually end up playing them all.

Not really, when most WPs are contested.

This would be true if there were only a couple of WPs per zone, or if all of them could be contested. Neither of which is ever the case.

At the very worst, you get redirected to one that isn’t, perhaps even one you didn’t have. Further it shows you places you may want to avoid if solo and still uncomfortable in the zone. At best it’s an indicator of which events are likely to start soon which you can participate in. The useful ones never stay contested for long by they very nature (Balth, Grenth, Arah, etc. ).

How to make ascended armor

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mourningcry.9428

Mourningcry.9428

The timegate only applies if you craft everything for yourself. The timegated items are the ascended raw materials (Bolt of Damask, Deldrimor Steel Ingot, Elonian Leather Square, Spiritwood Plank). You need 3 Bolts of Damask for every armor inscription, plus some for the other armor ingredients. A full light ascended armor needs around 36 Bolts of Damask alone, so if you don’t want to buy them on the trading post (13 gold per bolt) you have to craft at least 36 days for a full armor.

Actually, a small clarification, the time gated components to the mentioned above. It’s a much easier task to create the timegated Ectoplasm Refinements pieces daily and bank them while you acquire the other materials (looking at you Linen).

While the final components are essentially timegated due to the limiting agent, it can be easier, and cheaper, to just make the Ectoplasm Refinements .

It should be your priority to make sure you do the Ectoplasm Refinements as often as you can – ideally, daily.

As other have said, I’ll reiterate that it’s a paradise when compared to what it used to be.

For a band new character, assuming they’re not “fully” geared, it’s a nice introduction for learning to pick your fights, and which ones to skip.

Much like dungeons and fractals, you can clear and fight your way through, but in many instances, it’s gonna be a lot rougher(and at the least more time consuming) than avoiding/evading/skipping past.

Once you open up Way Points, it’ll no longer be an issue.

[Suggestion] Putting a CAP on Currencies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

@Phys

The difference being that the current implementation offers an optional conversion. A hard cap forces a conversion.

With respect to your analysis, the current conversion rates may be considered poor by some, and hence they chose not to convert, rather opting to bank the given currency. A cap will force such a conversion or result in wasted currency.

Regardless of what this rate is, it will be an increase versus the current rate.

In the simplest terms, an increase in gold and it’s resulting impacts.

it wont be an increase in gold, currencies pays out direct gold at abysmal rates. Its will be an increase in items, but thats why all the items currencies can make tend to be ones that are destroyed.
basic materials/crafting mats, which are destroyed so fast that if everyone cashed out, it would probably still recover in a few days.

so basically you get a small hiccup, and slightly increased supply, but that wont rock the market in the long term.

Only Anet has the numbers to determine the actual size of the blip.

On an individual basis it maybe small, but the immediate and ongoing impact would be essentially the scope of the entire player base.

To discount the overall impact so casually is optimistic at best.

As long as there a method to convert a given currency to a standard one (gold), creating a cap on a currency naturally will force a conversion to that standard as the cap is reached.

Without taking that flight into account, it’s irresponsible to simply implement such a cap.

For all those requesting a non-gold currency cap, how do account for this conversion and it’s impact?

[Suggestion] Legendary Weapon Sigils Switching

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mourningcry.9428

Mourningcry.9428

I like that idea. I don’t think that the ability to switch between the sigils you’ve unlocked for a particular legendary would be overpowered or unbalanced in any way. The cost of buying sigils to swap in and out is a drop in the ocean considering that legendaries cost thousands of gold to make. Have it so that it can only be done outside of combat (of course) and that would be a nice QoL feature for legendaries.

I also don’t think that this functionality should be shared with ascended weapons, the stats should be the same so a legendary isn’t better than an ascended sword stats-wise but it’s silly to me for people to propose that an ascended weapon has to behave exactly like a legendary weapon. They’re two drastically different tiers.

Perhaps I’m just silly then, and maybe I guess ANet’s just plain silly too…

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/

So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items….”

I don’t think anyone dislikes the idea of a swapable sigil, but liking something doesn’t mean it also isn’t consistent with and violates the intent….

Heck, I wish they’d implement all the stuff I’d like to see… but that’d just be silly…..

[Suggestion] Legendary Weapon Sigils Switching

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mourningcry.9428

Mourningcry.9428

I see sigil swaping the same way as infinite gathering tools. Convenience. Most sigils are cheap and you just place the new over without losing much anyway. How many transfers would be needed for the ascended cost the same as the legendary?

I think that the best way to implement sigil swaps would be give the lengedary a fixed ammount of slots that you can swap. Let’s use the number 5 for example. That would let you put 5 sigils on the weapon, but only be able to let 2 active. So this way we let the user swap between a limited amount of sigils that he sloted. If they want even more changes than they have to replace one of those 5.

It gives more options to make the stat swap usefull (most people just have 2 or 3 builds per charancer 1 for pve and a few for wvw), but also makes you think about what 5 sigils you want on the slots.

It’s definitely a better implementation. And there’s no doubt it is in one respect a convenience utility.

However, and I know I’m sounding like a broken record, but it still doesn’t address the issue that regular ascended users will have a re-occurring cost versus Legendary users. And yes, I am fully aware of how many transfer it would take to equal the cost essentially paid up front when creating a Legendary instead, and addressed that earlier.

Ultimately, no cost swapping, whether it’s one, five or infinite, still puts Legendary into a true category above Ascended which Anet never intended it to be. If they change their stance, great. But have to assume this is it until they say otherwise.
