Maybe I missed something but how’d they get to that $45 estimate? From the reddit:

“And now we know. The average price of getting a weapon ticket is equivalent to 40 black lion keys, or 3600 gems, or $45. That’s the price of one of these skins. Are you willing to pay it?”

Can someone point me to how they came to that?

I believe they’re basing off the assumption that 1. you don’t get the golden ticket and that 2. the scraps have a 25% chance.

Not very rigorous, but I imagine it’s a decent estimate.

Ok… Thanks.

My gut feeling is that it’s a rather generous estimate.

In the upper left “Events” area, it does indicate what tier the event is.

Doesn’t show until you actually start it…which forces us to have to reset it and guess again!

I just edited my post.

But it’s not really too much of a guess… The top difficulty is always at the top. There are only four tiers… all tiers available are shown… not really a whole lot left to deduce or guess at.

But you’re still seeing it as a “I have this you don’t thing” but as mentioned by Andrew giving people ONE LAST CHANCE on Christmas STILL makes it pretty rare. Not everyone will get it but again, my point to this is to give people the opportunity to get something they COULDN’T but wished they could of. They aren’t any less of veterans because they had real life issues preventing them from being there while it was available.

I get that real life happens. And when it does, missing something in a game should be a non-issue.

One time events are one of the few reward mechanics that actually reward players for participating in events. Offering exclusive rewards outside of these events trivializes the event and can foster a “meh, I’ll just wait and get it later” attitude that not only diminishes the event, but also, to an extent, diminishes the efforts of those who gave their time to partake in the event.

While personally, I could care less if events and exclusives are repeated or offered via alternative means, I do recognize that’s it’s a powerful mechanic for gaming companies to spark interest in the game, increase patronage, and at the same time reward the players for taking part in the event.

Ultimately, while it’d be a utopia for some to have everything, it’d be just as much a wasteland for others who value that exclusivity.

Who’s to say which is more valuable? From the company’s perspective, and for the long term viability of the game, satisfying which group is the better investment? I dunno.

With the new dungeon rewards coming, do you think Anet will/should reward smaller parties more? That would be nice if a solo effort could get as much gold per time put in as a full party!

Heh.. and maybe a cost to kick player(s)?

I joke, but you know some fool and his buddy would do it.

Longer, or duration of run time, isn’t likely to be the sole determining factor. Lots to consider, and a few discussions on it already. While AP4 can take a long time, it’s arguable thakittens level of difficulty warrants any greater reward due primarily to unavoidable minimum duration.

Curious as to what the metrics for determining “difficulty” and “length” will be… And along those lines, which will be the more heavily weighted.

I imagine they’ll be using a combination of the following metrics to determine these.

1. Average dungeon completion time
2. Variance on dungeon completion time (larger variance = more skilled groups cut more time?)
3. Rate of success/failure (Would love to see what it’s like TBH). Can be overall or for specific bosses, perhaps (i.e. Simin, or specific events like AC Hodgins defense from burrows)
4. Percentage/frequency players are getting downed.

Just some ideas off the top of my head. I’m 99% positive they keep track of data which they can use to calculate above metrics.

No doubt they have the data, but the devil’s always in the details, isn’t it?

Take for example COF, COE, HOTW and Arah data vs the other instances. These instances are fundamentally different from the other instances in that their tokens can be converted into ectos. Does this add or subtract to their weighting? Should it not count?

Further COE, HOTW and Arah are the only three that don’t downlevel you, so, how do normalize the metrics for the other dungeons? How large is the variance between the minimum level in blues/greens and fully geared exo/acd 80? Do you even normalize, or does the downleveling serve enough of as a normalization?

How far back can you mine the data? Since the last “fix” to the dungeon perhaps? Because before then, any data would be suspect due to questionable tactics?

I think you get the idea. But simply put, whatever metrics they take, I do believe they’ll end up with a reasonable sampling of the current and past dungeon runner population.

However, this is not at all representative of the potential population once the rewards are announced. Make them enticing enough, and you’ll have an entirely new population. Make them unappetizing, and you’ll lose a significant portion of your population who’ll move on to greener pasteurs. In either case, skewing it, and rendering those once representative metrics irrelevant.

Completion rewards will be guaranteed, and we’ll vary the amount of gold earned based on difficulty and length of each dungeon path.

I’m interested in this too. Though I’m guessing they have been able to collect length of time it takes a group, number of players downed, deaths, maybe damage taken, etc. Just remains to be seen what weighting factor each of those should have.

Edit: Okay I just reread what you wrote and then what I wrote and basically I repeated what you said lol. Time to stop posting tonight I think.

But for some reason the people who bought gems THIS month (me included) get the cold shoulder and are left with nothing but an open inventory slot. Why the hell is that!?!?

Simple answer, you don’t deserve it.

Had you purchsed even 400gems from ANet anytime during the three previous months you would have. But you didn’t. So, you don’t.

The Kites are a very gracious way for ANet to thank people for their support. You didn’t financially support them during that time period.

Maybe you’re recent purchase will be acknowledged, maybe not. Highly likely that anyone who did receive a kite didn’t expect any acknowledgement.

meager 3500 ap reward?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Think of it as an incremental reward for gaining 500 APs since the last “Large Acheivement” which is awarded for each thousand APs.

And for every 5 of those (2500APs) you get a Heavy reward.

It’s more of an incremental reward system as opposed to a cumulative one, with the benefit of potentially more desirable rewards only being offered at the higher cumulative AP.

That the prices for some of the consumables are just way out of line. I see that the cost of a single recovery package costs 300 gems or the equivalent three dollars. This seems unusually high as do the prices for black lion keys (which guarantee nothing and usually deliver on that promise) and a few other items.

Most of the other black lion offerings are fairly priced and I would like to see these items looked at for value/price considerations.

And for those who are going to say “don’t buy them if you think their too high” I didn’t but I am looking out for the company that is still making this game fun for me.

They would sell more things if they lowered their prices and as none of it has any physical value they would have absolutely nothing invested in the process.

It’s a simple case of “bundling”.

Individual prices:

Repair Canister – 70each, 5 for 300 (50 savings vs 350, or 60 per unit)
Revive Orb – 250 each, 5 for 900 (350 savings vs 1250, or 180 per unit)

Recovery Package – 300, 5 for 1200 (300 savings vs 1500, or 240 per unit)

The Recovery Package offers a savings of 20 per “unit”. No benefit for 5 of each.

Nothing nefarious going on here. The incentive is simply to offer you a better deal for a larger single purchase. And in doing so, reduce the cost per unit (kind of what you’re asking for).

Edit: I get you’re essentially asking for prices for the individual units to be lowered, but that gets into a discussion of opportunity cost and other concepts. Needless to say, there’s no doubt been a lot of consideration given to pricing, and while your opinion may be that they’d “make it up in volume”, it’s hard to substantiate on hypothesis alone.

I also should have read the whole thread, Khisanth offers a good practical analysis of the bundle.

Mourningcry.9428

Thanks for your definition of what a nerf is but I don’t see how that applies to this issue. Clearly, the issue is not how a Legendary looks, it is exactly about the fact that it’s skills can be nerfed to the point of making the Legendary worthless in one or more of the game areas. Again, every server will be different but take a look at the value drops since the last patch.

Legendary skills = Exotic skills = Rare Skills = MasterWork skills = Common skills

The only difference is the magnitude of their effectiveness.

Your whole point has nothing to do with (1) Endgame, (2) Legendaries, (3) any other context outside of weapon skills.

[Science] A little experiment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mourningcry.9428

Mourningcry.9428

My ears, how are you this fine morning ? Ready for a little experiment ?
I’ll cut to the chase to keep it short. (If you want to know the reasons behind this, I’ll put them at the bottom)

This experiment will take about 15 to 20 minutes of your time if you want to participate.
Here is what you have to do:

  1. Log out/in to your character screen.
  2. Pick the character that is in the middle of your character list. (If you have an even number of characters take the one further to the right side)
  3. Log in to the game with that character and play for at least 10 minutes with the following rules:
  • You can not leave the area the character is currently in.
(If you are in a city you may leave the city through the closest gate)
  • You can not enter dungeons.

4. Enjoy the cake

If you have done so, summarize your experience, was it fun ? If so, why ? If not why ?

The reason for this experiment:
A lot of people seem to play only for rewards. It’s almost like having fun is completely tied to the reward. I wondered if this is true on a level of the games mechanics or if it’s something that’s just in the heads of players.
If a games mechanics are fun it should not matter what kind of reward the player gets.
Fun is the reward.
I’m curious what results come out of this.

Ok, I’ll bite…

Logged in, 80 Thief, Mount Maelstrom.

Hunted holos/aetherblades & harvested (daily was already done, otherwise, would have done that). No drops of any note. Fun? Not exactly Vegas on a Friday night, but not as bad as watching paint dry.

Then again, this is not a new zone to me, don’t need it for completion. Had it been my first time here, the experience would obviously have been different. Had a ticket, precursor, or the like dropped, it would have been a different experience.

Not really sure what you’re expecting from this? Should “fun” just be handed to you? What’s “fun” to each player?

The constraints are so biased, the result set is obviously going to be skewed to a particular portion of the player base.

Obviously a player values their time, so, once they’ve decided to play, they’re going to go to the type of play that they enjoy most; be it PvP, WvW, instances, story, etc.

Perhaps a more “interesting” experiment would be to ask about the last 10 minutes of a play session. i.e. What had a player accomplished that they felt it was time to log off, or conversely, what frustrated them to cease play.

So, now, in fairness, what did you garner from my trial?

Try and see it from the perspective of those that bought Rich Coffers. They had (1) no knowledge of the recipie and (2) zero chance of obtaining one. Yet they still bought them.

The compensation is very fair and generous from ANet, and I’m sure it’s appreciated by those it’s intended for.

Sure, but what have the players who have not wished to waste their money on RNG boxes got in the past few months. Just look at the settlers weapons we got at the end of the last living story. It really shows how much anet cares about those players. This has turned into a f2p model MMO.

Here are some notable items made availble in game over the last few months:

- Winter’s day items
– Fractal skins
– Ascended gear
– Laurel vendor items
– Guild reward items
– SAB
– Molten Weapons Factory

The individual items are a bit too numerous for me list, so, I just listed the general categories. But you get the idea. Not enough?

As Vahkris pointed out the only notable things which the type of player you mention has missed out on, have been a few weapon skins.

Stop being an apologist for anet, OP. We’re giving our opinions and honest feeling about the released content. We’re providing something called feedback, that anet can then choose to acknowledge or ignore.
The event obviously lacks QA and isn’t thought trough.
Also just to make something clear: People are not complaining anet is not giving them everything for free (even though anti-grind was one of their promises pre-release), people are complaining that anet is forcing them to do an insane grind or spend money on a stuff that depends too much on luck.

Let’s be really clear, no one is being forced to do anything.

Want the shiney? Accept to do what it takes to get the shiney.
Don’t wanna do that? Don’t expect to get the shiney.
Don’t like what you gotta do? Don’t do it. Go ahead and even complain about it.

But don’t make up some kitten that you’re being forced to do it.

So, unless that’s a dev with a loaded gun standing behind you and giving you no alternative but to sit there an press buttons, wake up and accept it’s your choice to play however it is you chose to.

Its unfortunate that the most optimal way to farm holo’s is to wp around solo and grief the kitten out of other players instead of cooperating. It stands in stark contrast to rest of the game’s content, where having more players cooperate is usually more optimal.

Just as another perspective, that solo player “griefing” may just be some poor soul who’s bad luck it is to be behind a zerg, and they’re just desperate to get a node.

On another note, doesn’t take much to mess up a griefer’s farming route either. Just wait at the node until it respawns. Wait, but then aren’t you griefing the greifer? See above.

Maybe by transmuting, or what ever its called?

Yes, it’s possible. Some of the Exotic Temple accessories are account bound on acquire, soulbound on use. Armors are soulbound on acquire.

If you’re talking about just the look/skins, then yes, transmutation stones will work. Stats will not transfer.

Also, Karma jugs/potions from dailies/monthlies/instances are account bound. Save up a bunch, and at least pop a karma booster and have at it.

Look, nobody is forcing your hand here. Do what you think is best. It was a simple suggestion about another method to force a crit.

This whole thing started out because someone wants to save you from wasting your time.

And I myself already wasted enough time here. Good luck with your findings.

I’ll respond to the rest of the post, later if you’d like.

But this is the key part. I don’t know why you’re so obsessed with having to force a crit. Which as explained above, takes more time, not less. Scoring a crit is not the issue. More then enough crits are occurring without having to force one. A crit is a crit, regardless if it came from 100% or 95% or 60%. The issue is that on crit, the sigils don’t proc.

As an example please see the below the screen shots. The first shows Unload triggering the proc twice. It’s obvious that a crit on unload is in the 80+ range, a normal hit is in the 50s. You can see that in 1st volley after the 1st flame blast. Except for 1 more normal hit, all other attacks are crits.

Now, the rest of the images show what happens after changing weapons. I went to a rare pistol, as I didn’t have another exotic berserk pistol, so, the damage is less. But it’s still apparent – early on crits are in the 50s, normal hits are in the 30s. Two more screen shots of crits. Not one single proc.

I hope this helps explain how the issue isn’t identifying a crit, or scoring a crit. There are more then enough. Now this is just two kills. I can assure you I performed more then one. And further, the ease to which I can reproduce this should indicate that things are not “working as expected”.

The issue is the proc. Not the crit, which you keep insisting needs to be forced. Which brings me back to the point that if you really did play a high crit build, and you ever paid attention to the combat feed, having to force a crit to be sure it’s a crit is just silly. Sorry, but there’s no other way to put it.

The OP did not ask what is the most efficient way to get more crits, so time is not an issue. The OP is already wasting time trying to test a sigil that should have worked properly in the first place. I am actually suggesting that since the OP chose to waste time in testing, I offered a method that can make the quality of the result better.

Whoa… now you’re just trolling. Everything in the game “should work properly in the first place”? Of course it should, but unfortunately we all don’t have the perfect version of the game that you obviously do. Maybe it’s not just me

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs

And I have no regrets having “wasted” my time, as it lead to a viable workaround.

And the practical difference between 100% and 95%+ crit chance really isn’t interesting given the nature of the test. As I said, when SSoF stops proc’ing over any period of time, it’s noticiable from even casual observation (how I first noticed). Once it stops, it stops. It’s not a matter of frequency at that point.

Hidden Killer is just a method to insure a 100% crit and unless the combat log specifies that you managed a critical hit, you cannot know for sure and you’re simply guessing. On-screen combat text can be missed if multiple crits happen consecutively.

But whatever, take it or leave it.

Seriously? You posted elsewhere prefer you Valk/Knights gear, so, perhaps you don’t have much experience running a high crit/dmg zerker build. Crits aren’t the exception, they’re the norm. To provide some perspective, when you’re in zerker gear and running over ~100% crit damage (~2.5x dmg of a normal hit), it doesn’t take much to spot a non-crit in the combat log . There is no guessing, it sticks out.

Was being rather patient and accomodating with your suggestions, but your earlier quotes from the wiki were already suspect and showed either a lack of understanding, or disregard for the difference between Sigils. But these kind of statements go beyond skeptiscism, and into pettiness.

Thanks for testing OP. It’s people like you, who are willing to put in the hard work to find and confirm these bugs, that make this game shine.

No prob.

Again, you get fewer crits per minute using your method than using the OP’s method. The issue isn’t “why stop at 20?” It’s that, in the time it takes you to get 20 crits, the OP could have gotten 50. The OP is spending his own, personal time doing this testing for us. My problem with your suggestion was that you were essentially asking the OP to waste even more of his time without getting any benefit in the form of better results.

And your “reasonable doubt” argument is completely meritless. We “can know for sure” how many crits vs non crits were scored because, as I stated earlier, crits show up differently both on-screen and in the combat log. You don’t need to use Hidden Killer to know when you’ve scored a crit.

Wish there was a way to get a dump of the combat log, because you’re absolutely right. When running food, and attacking from behind/side (almost always against slow, easy to read oakhearts, which is why I chose them), crit chance is actually upwards of 95%. It’s actually the non-crits that stand out at that point.

Being able to land crits really wasn’t a concern

For what it’s worth, I used HK as an opener, with Cloak & Dagger and Hide in Shadows during combat as often as “revealed” allowed. I prob could have added Shadow Refuge, but didn’t think about it at the time. So, it didn’t really slow me down, it did however result in me having to wait for respawns, or having to find new test subjects at a faster rate
