Congratulations! Here’s to many wonderful years!
It looks a lot like a rotoscope sort of drawing, and for that it looks OK so far.
Nice! Did it take a while to learn how to do so, or did you guys already know everything beforehand? I’ve always wanted to make my own games, but the limitation in knowledge always gets to me. Not to mention I can’t start college until Fall (bah!).
Nice choice of name, and I salute you for your service! Here’s hoping the kit grows up strong and healthy!
I’m very happy with the game thus far! There’s a lot for me to still discover even after almost a year of playing, and I haven’t gotten bored once. That could just be because I play for a few hours a day, or the RP, but either way I’m digging it.
I’m sorry, but I don’t see the point in this. We already have to pay, what’s the point in putting unnecessary middle-men into it? The cost is negligible (even to fresh 80s) and even if you do run out of money, you have the PvP lobby and its access to Lion’s Arch (which in turn will give you access to every city hub + Lornar’s Pass, Gendarren Fields and Bloodtide Coast [Southsun Cove, too]). Is there an ultimate goal for your suggestion?
I’d only agree to any suggestions with one majorly complicated change that they’d need to program in:
~Credit towards rewards is not counted if the jumping puzzle is completed by going through a Mesmer Portal.
It still irks me to this day seeing people begging in LA for a Mesmer to portal them up in the pirate jumping puzzle or the other ones. Bah!
Unsure if there’s a way to program that, honestly. Perhaps a timer of sorts…? Something added at the proverbial start of the JP that starts a timer, and once it hits a certain time you’re eligible for the achievement? That way, even if somebody did use a portal they’d have to stand there for a bit before triggering it. But that’s a whole can of worms.
I’d make the argument, too, that even with the reward added it wouldn’t be much of an issue. That’s why the rewards I suggested were smaller ones, mostly insignificant (aside from the Mini or the 20 slot bag).
Title should be: “How High”
(As in, ’when you MrWuzby asks you to jump, you respond by asking, “how high?” ’)
I dig the reference
I’ll add it to the OP, as well as…
Topdown viewer?
EDIT: Any other suggestions for a reward? I was thinking of taking the 20 slot bag down to a 15 or 18 slot bag, too.
The item probably ended up vanishing before you got back to where ever it dropped would be my guess.
Makes you wonder, exactly how many of you have left behind precursors?
Loot isn’t determined until you collect it or open it in the case of champ bags. They must’ve done something differently in regards to the portal.
That’s my guess as well. A friend of mine was doing SW with me defending Indigo, and we started whacking some mobs just before Breach happened (devourers, hyenas) and he claimed he got the mail, but no portal. He didn’t provide any proof, but I trust his word.
There was no real reason told as to why it was removed, but it would be a nice nod if a red post were to clarify why. Either that or we get a lucky chance with an AMA.
I believe we’ll be visiting that area sometime in the future. Maybe not with HoT, but some Living World addition down the line. And on the subject of blocked paths, we already have a couple, with a notable one being in Brisban Wildlands where the broken bridge is. They’re there as a small teaser I think.
I would to get the achievements and collection rewards, not to mention the skins from the token merchants in Lion’s Arch. I wouldn’t do them again after that, though, if the gold reward was removed.
I’ve been toying with the name of a title that would be fit for Jumping Puzzles but they all end up sounding too similar to SAB titles. Anyone have any ideas?
These are very common, and the issue is known by ArenaNet. The best you can do is report these guys in-game using the report function.
Actually what you want is the additional crafting license. You can see how much of each material from the crafting tab. The licenses apply to all characters so you need at most 2.
You can also go into the PvP lobby and access your bank there. Not very useful for WvW or in the middle of a dungeon/fractal but why would you need to check your material storage in the middle of a dungeon?
I forgot to mention that, actually. Going to the PvP lobby is a great one-stop place for banking, TP and vendor access, and it’s completely free (no WP costs). It also gives you a portal straight to LA so you can use the Forge. Pretty much the best thing about the PvP lobby for a PvE player.

Nicely typed. I dislike it when others use the word ‘grind’ in the wrong way, and it makes me harken back to the days of Final Fantasy II (IV) on the SNES. Grinding out those levels just to complete most of the sections…THAT’S grind. Having to speed needless amounts of time just to play the kitten game is grind. Not going after an optional skin/drop/shiny, that’s called farming.
And before somebody comes in and says, “Well you have to ‘grind’ to 80 to play Living Story!” Not really. But you also have Personal Story to do along the way. In Final Fantasy IV, there was no content to do while I leveled up. If there was (optional summon drops, equip drops) that was all OPTIONAL stuff, and I’d be farming for them. But my main goal was leveling to fight the boss or complete that section.
THAT’S grind.
uhhh i never grinded in ffII at all. i mean literally. i got enough exp to do everything just following the story. I think you just liked to be overpowered.
You and I must have been playing completely different games, then, friend. I remember having to get at least three or four levels to face bosses like Barbariccia and the very first Zeromus form just to be on even grounds with them, and I was fighting all of the extra things up until them with no run-aways and no deaths.
Seems this was all a waste of time, then. High hopes lead to low downs…
So I’m parading my newly created Book of Secrets around Lion’s Arch a couple of weeks ago, and then I start to get the itch to change my asura’s hair. So I go and do the last Living World episode to get my free hair kit, and I find the first image halfway through the section.
Fast forward to last week and I’m doing map completion in Straits of Devastation (or was it Malchor’s Leap? I forget) and I find this gem (second image). I am now confused, intrigued and a bit put off by my newly acquired and first ascended item. Anybody else curious about this?
EDIT: Wiki entry on Fire of the Gods: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fire_of_the_Gods
Wiki entry on the skill point: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Captain%27s_Log
The two entries contradict my theory that they’re the same books. Still searching for more. Anybody else find these books scattered about, with the same look?
(edited by MrWubzy.3587)
I’ve actually gotten an exotic or two out of JP chests (Stardust at Not So Secret, orange Greatsword (generic) at Obsidian Sanctum). It’s possible to get good stuff out of them, but highly improbable.
I think it’s just a scaling thing for that specific race. When I use one-handed weapons on my asura or norn, they scale accordingly, looking the size fit for the race. I’ve never tested what you said in the last bit, but now I’m intrigued. But how would one test this? (Brain’s a bit slow due to stress today!)
EDIT: Now that I think about it, the Norn 1H sword skin on a Human/Sylvari look ridiculously huge no matter the height of the character. Same thing for the Vigil 1H sword skin.
I’m curious of this myself. My main thief utilizes this in a couple of builds and I’d love to hear about it.

in truth your idea that you have to “grind to 80th level” doesn’t hold true either.
It takes NO real time in most MMOs to level to max post WoW and the quest for experience model ..
They hand everything to you now IN most games .. You really don’t need to earn anything (save maybe achieves BUT most of them I stumble over anyway while playing) ..
NOW grinding is like old EQ1 when you spent 10 to 12 hours in the same spot killing the exactly same spawns to level up (if you were low enough level that is as sometimes it took a lot of days to do this) .. Or Ultima Online and the insane amoutn of times you had to end up using your abilities to finally get it up to a reasonable level (UO has or had no levels as such just skills you had to increase) ..
The over all PROBLEM with ALL MMOs is that they play like a game you play for a month then delete maybe to come back to restart after a year or 3 ..
MMOs you are supposed to have “growth” and honestly I think the issue is the games (this one as well) give you way too much in way too short a time .. It doesn’t take all that long to level to 80th level .. then you have to get your character geared up (this DOES take a lot of grinding but since you level so fast you should know you are going to get caught somewhere) …
IF you want to be handed everything an MMO really isn’t the place and a first person shooter is definitely a better game for you ..
myself I am hoping for a game more in line with the old eq that DOES take a long time to level up so you can feel actual growth in the character instead of ending up feeling like a “cheap one night stand”… sadly I also know this won’t happen as the gaming companies are all after “big money” which means making it appeal to the players like myself who want a challenge and a game the lasts a long time and the more casual players who might only play for 2 to 3 hours through the week and then a bit more on the weekends .. because of the second group of players those like myself have suffered since 3 or 4 years into EQ 1 so about 16+ years
I was referring to grinding levels in Final Fantasy IV, not MMOs. And the mention of having to level to 80 to do Living World was just a sort of flame shield to prevent those claiming that we have to ‘grind’ levels in GW2, sorry if it wasn’t clear. I have no issues with GW2 in terms of farming or leveling process, I was just agreeing with EazyPanda’s post and attempting to define grind myself.
Since as far back as I can remember, Jumping Puzzles have been a fun and awesome way to spend some spare time in the game. Lots of cool mechanics, interesting areas and tricky as heck sections in some places (Griffonrook Run anyone?).
But upon completing them all I was met with the realization that I received nothing but AP for doing so. I busted my bum in Obsidian Sanctum dealing with PvP (occasional troll) and the other three Sanctums, and kept stumbling at the annoying (but really fun!) Not So Secret. And all I got to show for it was all of these points.
Now, I’m not saying this is a bad thing! Doing them all is an achievement and a reward in itself. But since a lot of other things get some neat little rewards, why not Jumping Puzzles? I propose, upon completing all Jumping Puzzles, that you receive one of the following:
(Basically, any reward equivalent to doing the massive achievement that is all of the JPs)
Just to give people a bit more incentive to go out and jump some more! I’ve played with a lot of people who avoid Jumping Puzzles for their lack of reward, difficulty or time consumption. Adding a reward would incentivize just a bit more, and get some more content out of the play time! Thanks for reading, and please offer suggestions or criticism below!

EDIT: Edited title for clarity, sorry about that!

Please do not think I’m saying that it’s intentional. I am not.
I know, sorry if it came across that way. It’s just baffling me a bit that there’s the potential that they’ve done this.
They already have this. It’s a bank express.
This here. The reason why they make you purchase a Bank Express/Personal Golem Banker is for this purpose (along with easy bank access). It’s a QoL feature you have to purchase, and if they added the suggested OP it would invalidate both of the above items and outcry would ensue (I purchased this item, refunds please! etc.).
I got it sorted out. I made a bug report on the bug forums (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Blocking-Progress-The-Mystery-Cave/first#post4980749) but no input, but I not-fixed it myself. I just tried the instance again one day and suddenly it was fixed and I could progress. Yes, I was using a melee weapon on the Dragon itself. It just happened to be a really random bug.
This makes no sense to me. Why would they put in something like this that makes older accounts LESS lucky? If anything they should make older accounts MORE lucky since they’ve dedicated the play time. In fact, they should make older, more active accounts be more lucky since they literally did spend all that time playing. Having this apply to brand new accounts seems backwards.

You may want to edit your post title and suggestion then, as you didn’t mention timers, but skills themselves. I’m not sure how this option would come to light, resetting an individual skill’s (or a slew of skill’s) timers. What about this, then?
How about (PvP lobby ONLY) take the timer OFF of skills when near the testing dummies?
It is theoretically possible that they use some specific hash of a character data as a seed for random number generation involved in loot drop calculation.
It is such a big bug though that i can’t believe it was not located for such long time.
That wouldn’t make much sense, though. If what the OP is describing is true (and while applying what you said above to it), that means that the RNG punishes playing for a longer period of time, which would discourage long-term players. I doubt ArenaNet want that.
I can see its usefulness, then, if just the PvP lobby, if it’s solely for testing builds. What about the other questions I posed?
EDIT: Just caught your edit!
To do it manually just change your skills around yourself. I’m assuming you’re referring to traits and utility skills, though, as that’s pretty much what we have in GW2. If that’s the case a Build Saver would serve the same purpose just about.
Well, I e-mailed support and am waiting for a response. If I get a solid reply I’ll let it out for all to see, to avoid further confusion among potential buyers. Sorry, OP, about hijacking your thread!
Sadly that’s the nature of things, though. They have made a solution to this, though, in the form of Mawdrey (bloodstone dust) and the Star (emp fragments) so they’re catching on. Honestly, though, it should stay just with the three biggest contenders for useless bag filling (bloods, emps, drags). The rest can, 99% of the time, be vendored, and the stuff that can’t isn’t even worth vendoring anyway.
Just follow the Monster Hunter rule of: If you don’t need it, sell/destroy it. The inventory space is more important than hanging on to a hunk of junk (Garbage, useless piles of Jaggi Scales, etc.).
and by that I mean the nickle and diming grindy feel whenever you want to change your character’s appearance or have more than character 5 slots or more bank slots or….etc. Like I paid 50+ USD $ for it when it originally came out. Played since day 1. I’ve got like two, TWO pieces of cosmetics I’ve unlocked (like the special ones you can apply for free) . Seriously? There are f2p games with more cosmetic options for less time spent.
Sure there are random loot crap unlocks. I’m talking about looks you’d actually want on your character. I know the token thingys arent too hard to grind but they’re still a grind. for a paid model I should be able to change my appearance on a whim.
The skin I want may not be the same skin you want. For example, I quite enjoy the Magician’s armor pieces (light armor) on my newly created Mesmer, while most of my friends think it’s repulsive. Just putting that out there.
I also think you’re misusing the word ‘grind’. What you’re referring to is called farming, not ‘grinding’. I can’t believe how often that word gets used, and in the worst possible contexts…
ArenaNet has to make money outside of their individual game sales, otherwise they’d just break even (best case) or lose money (worst case). Having their base model from the Gem Store is their greatest strength, and tying customization options into it is a great idea (and an understandable one). People want to look good, and if they want to do it fast, they’ll spend the dough (or gold). If not, they’ll just go out and complete a few maps, or make a new toon (if they have that ability) and map the hub cities again.
In fact, I recommend that if you have the open slot or drive to do so. Make a new toon, map its race’s hub city and then use the portal to Lion’s Arch from said city to map LA, then use the portals in LA to travel to the other hub cities and map those. That’s easily 6 Trans Charges for the effort. Not to mention you get almost enough levels to get to 10 so you can get a BL key from your story.
That’s exactly what the Forge is for, as Palindrome said. Sure it takes a bit of effort to do so, but it’s there. You can always vendor the trash that needs to be vendor’d, and the Bloodstone Dust, Empyreal Fragments and Dragonite Ore can always just be destroyed. You get those all the dang time anyway, so there’s no shortage of them.
I’ve seen a lot of claims of this across the forums, reddit and in-game friends and map chats, but I’ve yet to see it myself. My wife (she’s had her account since two months after release) and myself (had mine since the end of summer last year) get about the same rates of drops. In fact, there are times when she gets exotics out the bum, but I get almost nothing in the same time frame doing the same content (in this case, SW chest farm, dungeon mob/boss loot and Orr). This happened even when I first began playing, too, and it’s not let up since.
I’m not discrediting your theory, nothing like that! I just find it hard to believe versus my own experience.
How old is your account? It says on the Wiki that newer accounts are limited in what they can withdraw/deposit. Maybe that’s it?

I am hoping for exactly this. I think one of the bigger obstacle would be that (unlike finishers) relatively many of the tonics use the same icons (for example all the mystic forge ones). I hope that some of the more obscure consumables that are not strictly considered tonics would be included as well (Hylek potions, growth potion, selfless/thoughtless potion, …).
I guess you COULD group instruments with those, but a separate tab for toys, as the OP suggested, would still be preferable to me and my sense of order.
The only thing I really don’t want to see in a tonics tab at all is townclothes tonics – I’d much rather see them converted into outfits instead.
See.. I’m thinking that “Toys” are just outright exluded. Tonics are transformations, and I think technically things like instruments (anything that changes the skill loadout is, I believe). Hence my thought for a transformation tab. That would mean leaving out things like the Bobblehead Laboratory, sadly, which is my favorite toy item.
Just trying to think of the most probable approach. Don’t get me wrong though, tabs to store ALL playful items would be amazing.
Edit: Yes, down with the townclothes.
I agree, a Transformation tab would be the best solution. Infinite Tonics would act as Outfits, and consumable tonics would act like limited finishers from the Finishers tab. A great idea!
Also, could you list what specific items this tab would have inside of it? What about the riding tools, and other weird bundles players can carry (karma-merchant Med-Kits, etc.)?
You can already do this manually (though it does take a bit of time). I think this would tie in nicely with a build saver option, though. Also, how would this option work? How would it affect different skills and things, and how would it react in PvE? Would it just function in PvP, or WvW?
That may be the case, yeah. I activated my serial code and logged in just a couple of days before their summer sale last year. Did they release those Bankers out around that time?
Makes me wonder, though, why I got it. I’m going to check in with CS to see if they can check some logs from then to see what happened…intriguing.
I’m sorry if I’ve offended you in some way, but I know what I received when I made my character. I had nobody on my friends list, the ArenaNet logo was slapped on the Banker Golem’s mail and I took it out, thinking it was part of it.
EDIT: If this matters at all, I bought a physical copy at full price ($50) at my local Wal-Mart.

I think adding any sort of repeatable content between now and Heart of Thorns is a good move. It would draw players back and keep players playing, all the while getting that juicy HoT reveal information to make it that much sweeter. Not to mention the gem sales the would generate when releasing SAB with more infinite coins and other SAB related items. Sure, that content was here before, but it’s really nice to have it anyway as that ‘little extra’ to play.
Does anyone know at least why SAB never came back, and if it ever is? Google tells me the good old ’it’s not off the table’ comment about its re-release, but no reasons why it’s gone.
The chest you get is a one time thing. You only receive it ONCE. Also, you don’t get the banker golem on every character. When I used mine from my Heroic Chest I never got a new one after creating my asura or norn characters. Nothing at all, you guys must be confusing Heroic for Digital Deluxe.
You don’t even get a one time banker golem from the heroic version. Here is what the heroic version includes vs. the DD version since there seems to be some confusion.
I did, I got a 2-week golem banker along with my choice of armor set and all that jazz. I deleted it a while back since it was virtually useless to me. Received it on my first character (Human Warrior named Myles Raines), took it out of my mail as soon as I chose my armor set (heavy).
My guild’s opinion is that re-releasing SAB (even with no updates), a slightly modified DragonBash (to resupply the foods), and even just a small anniversary celebration for the 10 years would have kept a lot of interest. We still play, but most of the guild a lot less than we normally would.
I’m playing Guild Wars 1 :p
Yep! 49/50 here.
I have to agree with the SAB/Dragon Bash thing. Any of their recycled content would keep interest and keep people playing (which means they’ll also buy gems since they’re…you know, playing). SAB is better in that regard, as it would give Anet a chance to make some extra dough for those buying new Infinite Coins (if any) at no cost. Flip the proverbial switch, and done.
I just wish they’d give us some substantial information as to why it’s in the state it’s in right now (SAB).

This is great! Good fun, challenging, fits the game world nicely and to top it all off it’s about Rata Sum! Excelsior!
I vote this being a mini-game for PvP queue times. Ever get stuck in a long queue? Load this sucker up!
EDIT: How’d you guys make this? What program, etc.?

I use it often in combat to position myself behind my target, or to be more mobile. I’m currently working on a Trick build that uses Scorpion Wire and Roll for Initiative that IA works very well with in the Silverwastes. Fast, fun, and very satisfying. And as GummiBear said, it’s a great skill to keep mobile with if there are few enemies around. Don’t want to be caught with a tiny Init pool when using IA…
As Paul Ella said, they do play a bunch, but it’s probably on their personal accounts most times. They don’t really use their Anet accounts unless there’s an event or they’re checking a report/bug/exploit. Still, it’d be really cool to run into these guys while playing so I could tell ’em how awesome their game is in person(?).
That’s pretty awesome OP! Now I’m curious as to any applications this may have in terms of messing with my friends…
As far as I’m concerned, most do so little I probably wouldn’t even notice.
There was an update, long ago, that removed all the traits I had selected on my warrior. Took me a long time to see the difference and check it out. She was a little weaker but it wasn’t a big difference.
I’d probably react like this as well. I play my guardian most times, so the only real trait I would notice missing was VoJ blinding my targets (if you’re talking about Minor Traits as well as major ones).
