the dumbest thing you've ever done in game?

I hopped into the PvP lobby in between a dungeon run with some guildies to sell things and bank some items. I decided to check my traits and sort them out for the next path to make it easier, and then I came back to the dungeon entrance. Ran in to the dungeon, did the entire path without realizing that the traits I set in the PvP lobby, I didn’t have unlocked in the PvE world. At least we finished the path…

Help with inventory management

invisible bag first followed by crafting bag, equipment box and oiled leather pack.

crafting bag takes mats, oiled pack takes junk, and equipment box takes weapons/armor (probably want more than one of these). its not perfect, but might just do what you are wanting. i think invis bags can be made to ignore the compact function (although im not sure if compact will still throw stuff in there if its first). havent experimented with it. Also, this solution doesnt account for things like bandit crests or living story stuff or even champ bags, but it might be your best option

Gobble D Goop has the better idea, actually, towards a solution for you. I’ll try this setup myself to see if it helps out. Thanks!

I apologize if you’ve tried this, but I think there’s a bag that drops weapons/armor into it first before all other items. I forget what it’s called, but I’ve seen it on the TP before. I always keep all of my weapon swaps on the very bottom in an invisible bag, along with salvage kits/necessary mats I want to keep. It works well for me, as it does you.

Will The Mastery System Have Impact on WvW?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

It would be a bit funny to experience a zerg on gliders swooping down on an enemy zerg and on TS someone screaming “DEATH FROM ABOVE!!!”

Like that scene in Godzilla 2014 when they parachuted into Las Vegas. Adding a 3rd dimension to WvW would definitely liven things up, but would require proper depth in the map design, not to mention anti “aircraft” mechanics. Siege tracking mechanics would be a nightmare. I could see barrage rangers being handy for defending towers

It would make attacking certain points in the existing borderlands impossible, though, as the BL owners could just fly out of the Citadel and land inside the towers nearby or dive bomb into the camps with high enough gliding.

I’d imagine blobs would completely avoid fighting near cliffs for fear of being hit by “paratroopers”. Also, I could also imagine an aerial assault by players with high enough Gliding from Garrison to Bay or aerial reconnaissance from Stonemist. Stonemist would take on a new significance as it’s the highest point in EBG and from there you could launch paradrops into any of the nearby towers. If you could take and hold SMC, you’d basically own EBG. Imagine the fights!….and the frame drops XD

All. These. Possibilities!

The scenarios you just presented would make me actually WANT to play WvW. I would hop in just to join a paratrooper group and rain hell with my Engi’s grenades and things like that.

Aren't we all Roleplayers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Doesn’t matter which interpretation of ‘Roleplayers’ we are if we consider ourself as that at all – what matters the most, and is also fundamental to the game itself – is how we as players treat each other.

There are going to be Roleplayers as characters and Roleplayers as Players running into each other – what makes Guild Wars 2 great is that 99% of the time it doesn’t end in conflict and that is what is important

(Piken Square Roleplayer here)

Well said! I roleplay a lot in this game myself as my character, and when other people who don’t consider themselves roleplayers bump into me, it’s never about how stupid I am or anything, it’s usually a “Sorry to interrupt” or “Just passing through!”

Heck, sometimes they may even join in with the roleplay, and when that happens it’s always a blast. If you rolepaly, RP away! If not, we both share a game world, and I’m happy to share it all.

Let’s let this thread disappear into the depths.

Not a stupid idea at all; it’s been done well in other games.

Unfortunately, it just may not be optimal for GW2 at this time. Never hurts to explore options which could benefit the game.

I understand it’s not very optimal. And it’s probably best that it’s not put in, seeing as we already have many players who have issues completing content as is. But as you said, it never hurts to explore other things! I’d like to hear other people’s opinions, maybe we can improve this suggestion with some more critique?

[Suggestion] Hard Mode

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I’m not sure if this has been suggested before, so I apologize. If it has been suggested before, please merge this with the existing thread so the forums don’t get too cluttered! (the forum search function gave me nothing)

EDIT: Real quick edit here! The changes presented here will NOT carry over into PvP, but they WILL carry over into WvW. Subject to change obviously!

I present a Hard Mode for players looking for a challenge. This mode would be selectable when you create a new character, and will only be active for that character as long as it is in a character slot. It would offer a slightly higher challenge by changing a few basic things:

Arbitrary changes:

-Slightly less stats across the board
-More falling damage than usual
-Skills cost a bit more to unlock (discuss? This was just a random one I thought I’d add for discussion)
-Armor is damaged far easier after each death

Other changes:

-[Exhausted Debuff] Similar to how the current debuff functions (when you go down, you get less HP for every consecutive down), this would, on top of the already present debuff, make you wait for a few seconds before respawning at a waypoint. You will have to wait increasingly longer for each consecutive death, and you can get rid of the debuff by staying alive for long enough to make it go away (similar to how respawns work in competitive games).*

*I just realized that a player laying there down for long enough could mean upscaling events and things of that nature. We could change this to an across-the-board 5-10 second respawn with no increase in wait time for consecutive deaths.

-Death Clause: If you die a certain number of times, you are only able to waypoint back to the nearest waypoint closest to an area transition gate (for example, you die 5 times fighting Shadow Behemoth, you must use the Shaemoor Village waypoint, etc.). This is to increase the amount of money spent on waypoints to prevent the ‘die, respawn’ cycle. This clause disappears if you waypoint out of the map entirely (for example, you die 5 times as above, but you waypoint into Kessex Hills, you are able to waypoint to any point open in Kessex Hills, but not Queensdale)

Those are just general changes. Here are some proposed changes to the Personal Story/Living story (all changes suggested ABOVE are still in effect when in any instance):

Arbitrary changes:
-PS/LS enemies and bosses have slightly more health and stats
-Stability and Defiance last slightly longer on enemies
-Slightly more trash enemies (not sure about this one honestly)

Other changes:
-Death Clause: If you die X amount of times during a Living Story episode, you must start from the first chapter of that episode. All achievements and rewards/items gained during that episode are KEPT upon death, however.

So, why would a player want to try Hard Mode? It’s easy: more rewards. Things like unique skins for beating the PS, unique titles for reaching milestones on a Hard Mode character, and possibly even other things. Here are some proposed rewards for milestones in Hard Mode:

[Beat the Personal Story] – When a Hard Mode character beats their personal story, they are rewarded with a unique skin of their choice for a weapon and an armor piece. The piece of equipment will be account bound. They are also rewarded with 7 Tomes of Knowledge.

[Beat a Living Story episode] – When a Hard Mode character beats a Living Story episode, they are rewarded with slightly more money, karma and EXP, as well as a unique loot bag called, “Bag of Heroic Goods” (subject to change…) which will contain one of the following (players can CHOOSE what they want from the Bag):

-A Bag of T6 crafting materials
-A rare/exotic armor/weapon (possibly same loot table as current bags that drop them?))
-5 Skill Point Scrolls
-2,000-3,000 Liquid Karma
-10 Mystic Coins
Once used, the Bag is consumed. You cannot receive more bags from consecutive playthroughs on the same character, on the same episode.

[Titles] – Some unique titles for reaching these milestones (which, of course, will have achievement points tied to them):

-{Heroic Dragonslayer} – Defeat Zhaitan as a Hard Mode character
-{Stoic Dungeoneer} – Complete every dungeon’s Story Mode and every dungeon’s Explorable Mode path as a Hard Mode character
-{Steel Legs} – As a Hard Mode character, complete every Jumping Puzzle.
-{Antique Atlas} – Explore 100% of the world as a Hard Mode character
-{A Legend Is Born} – Craft a Legendary weapon on a Hard Mode character

So, any thoughts, suggestions of your own? What would YOUR version of Hard Mode challenge a player with? Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to see what you all think!

Armor repair has no purpose anymore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I sort of like the armor breaking systems. It increases immersion a little, and it does create a sense of, “Oh crap, my defense is really low, my chestpiece is almost broken…” I can however agree that the fee being gone is a little bit odd, since it was negligible at best. But I barely even noticed it being gone in the first place, as I just clicked ‘Repair’ without reading anyway.

The No UI Challenge.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

This sounds like it could be fun. Maybe add a bit of challenge. How about we take it further and add some more rulesets people could try?

-To further increase immersion (since the UI is already off) if you decide to go for a vista, you must sit through the entire cinematic (small, but…still)

-You are only allowed to buy items (this includes weapons, armor and trinkets) from heart merchants after you have completed said hearts. This is to give the feeling that, “I helped this person, and now they’re helping me!” since karma is technically just a “I help people” currency.

-Give your character a name that fits that race’s lore. Something like a first and last name for humans, a sort of out-there name for asura, and so on.

-If you’re a ranger, use Nuzlocke rules. If your pet dies, it’s ‘dead’ forever, and you have to use a new one, and you MUST name it. Again, immersion.

-And since I said the one above, how about Fire Emblem rules? Once you die, you’re dead forever? Or, to make it a bit easier, how about give yourself a set number of lives, and once you run out of lives, you have to re-start the run?

I could go on with more rules, but it’s already too complicated as it is x.x Nice idea, though! I’m definitely going to try it sometime.

Thank you all for the tips! I’ll try to reply to all of you…

@Silvia: The guide you provided helped a bit, but utilizing what was presented there didn’t help me much. It is still a pretty good reference, though, so I’ll keep it bookmarked.

@Guardian of Angels: I’ve been learning how to utilize my blind more effectively since you suggested the multiple skills that do so, and with a certain trait that applies vuln on blind, it makes some fights a lot easier. I’ve already been using the invuln elite during dire situations as well (and doesn’t it lower the CD on your Virtues? I forget…). The shouts I run are Retreat!, Stand Your Ground and Save Yourselves. Stability is a really big help, as well as aegis.

@Brother Grimm: Uh…okay?

@ Ojimaru: That was one of the biggest issues I ran into, yeah, was condis. I’ve learned how to cleanse properly, but without a decent healing skill my health pool seems more like a health puddle. As for food, I’m struggling to afford the food off of the TP, and leveling my cooking skill is getting harder and harder. Could you suggest some foods that are either cheap, or bought with karma?

Also, yeah, I learned that Guardians suck at chasing fairly early on. If my target ever ran I just stood my ground until they either came back, or ran away entirely.

Guardian tips?

MrWubzy.3587

Hi there, new to the forums. I recently fell in love with my asura guard but I’m having trouble learning the advanced party tactics for dungeons and zergs, as well as builds. I’m currently running Knight’s armor with Zerk weapons and trinkets, and I’m doing a basic Shout build. Nothing flashy but it gets the job done. I also use GS and Sw/F, mostly for roaming and general use.

I mained a thief before this so it’s tough surviving since my access to evades is limited to stamina. I’m asking anyone here if there are any ways to improve my game, be it strats, weapons, gear or builds? I’m aware of the meta, and I’m currently working to afford the gear to do so.

Sorry for any errors, I’m posting this from my WiiU since my laptop fried, getting repairs.

[ICM] Is this a bad thing...?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I’m not sure if what the OP mentions there is the same as ICM, as Google searches provide different results as far as I can see. And thank you all for the replies; right now I’ll just wait for a response from ArenaNet and see if they give me any sort of answer. While it’s not expected in the slightest, I suppose it’s worth a shot…

I suppose I’ll have to put up with the wrist pain, then. Thanks for the input.

My Girlfriend has injured her wrist and can’t play with mouse and Keyboard so we have tried lots of different things so she can enjoy the games she likes.

Cideko Air Keyboard Conqueror
http://www.cideko.com/pro_con.php?id=15

This one is realy good, she can play GW2 almost without any complications… The only problems is for her to cast Aim skills. This is the thing she uses for GW2 at the moment. But it requires you to use Xpadder wich is a program in the red-zone, but I am pretty sure that you are safe as long as you don’t use any macros. But as said before, you are never safe when using thirdparty stuff.

And

Trackball
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Cordless-Optical-Trackman-USB/dp/B00006B9CR

This one we bought her before the Controller and she could play a little longer before she got too much pain. It took a while for her to get used too but now she prefere this one than a mouse.

I hope you can find a way to play without any wrist pain.

Thank you for the help! But sad to say, the trackball has never alleviated it in any form, it only enhanced the pain. The controller you linked wouldn’t work as well…the precision of a mouse is unmatched in games like this. I’ve already tried playing with my precision 360 custom controller using Xpadder and the like, but it’s nowhere near as precise and fast.

Again, thank you all for the help!

EDIT: It wouldn’t help my case if WoodenPotatoes put up a video on it, would it? Or is he not that big a part in the community?

[ICM] Is this a bad thing...?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Hello forums! Just wanted to get some clarification since the link provided on ICM’s website didn’t really clear up my concerns.

I find it much easier for me to play the game using ICM not because it makes things faster or better, but because it eliminates the need to hold down right-click to pan my camera. Before when I’d try to play (mostly on my old engineer) I’d often find my hand and wrist to start hurting after just a few minutes of play due to holding down RMB to pan my camera. It was especially taxing during world bosses and most champions when I’d have to constantly pan around after dodging, rocket boots and tossing grenades.

While the pain caused wasn’t exclusive to my engineer (being prevalent during any sort of casual play) it was exhausting while playing that class. So I started to search up any add-ons that may eliminate the RMB holding to better help my slight cripple, and found Immersive Combat Mode (http://wesslen.org/ICM/). While reading through their link provided that gave ArenaNet’s stance on third party programs, a ton of questions started popping into my head, as it seems their stance on said add-ons was mainly geared towards PvP/WvWvW and not PvE, which is what I play.

I haven’t received any complaints about how skilled or how well I play using ICM (heck, I’m more mediocre when it comes to combat in this game, with or without it) and I see no clear advantage during any sort of scenario, especially when it comes to world bosses and champions now. I often see many players, new and old, still outplay me purely based on skill even without using ICM.

So my broad question is: is using ICM to overcome the wrist pain a bannable offense? This is a general question to players instead of devs, as they’ve already said their piece. I would love to keep using it, but if it means my account will get terminated, I’d have to deal with the pain, as money is hard to come by right now and I can’t afford to lose my hobby right now.

Thanks!

I want to run it at a good frame rate but still allow it to look at least OK. The screenshots are both set in the Silver Wastes. I have also done tests in Caledon Forest and in a zerg during a labyrinth run the other night. It’s a laptop, yes. And no, I cannot afford to upgrade or purchase a new computer at this time or in the foreseeable future. I have updated each driver to its latest release and done a defrag as well as a malware scan and virus scan.

I usually run with settings on almost low just to hit 40FPs (around 25 in zergs) but I’m aching to get the graphical fidelity up a little bit more.

Actually I would say the book more or less does the opposite, since it basically says that the Tengu have decided to flee

Wait, if I remember right it told the story on how they fled Cantha, build their Dominion of Wind against Zaithans hordes and are now sending out notes to all other Tengus that there is still hope and that they will fly again. Not flee.

They are bird-people. They want to spread their wings.

For the love of Snaff, please let this be right! I’ve wanted to play a Tengu ever since I saw them years ago in the first games. Arena Net, you sly dogs, make it happen!

I would most definitely love to see those. I was never around for the beta but I keep hearing so much about the lore books from friends. I’m a heavy lore-nerd and I read every log I come across in games, so it would fit nicely.

It doesn’t make sense, honestly, that they get to use greatswords but the other classes without them are lacking the ability. And with three different Greatsword legendary weapons it’s almost stuck in my head that the developers REALLY like the weapon type. And as said above, the recent addition of a character using a greatsword as a necromancer (and Trahearne before her), why not? I say enough with the dual class speculation, just throw the necromancers a bone. Mesmers are a light-armor class and THEY get greatswords, so why not?

Diminishing shared between dungeons and LS?

I have noticed this but in another instance. The other day, farming lab during the event, I popped out into Gendarren Fields (after DR kicked in) to complete a bit of map there and noticed that I was getting almost no drops save for junk. I maybe got a white bag every fifteen or so mobs that I encountered. Not sure if intended, though, as I’m sure the DR info we have says it’s for specific areas.

[Suggestion] Currencies & The Wallet

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I would love for all this stuff to be put in the wallet. I’d also include Geodes into that. If its a currency and it can’t be traded (ie accountbound stuff) it should have a new home in either the current wallet or a new wallet tab (that scrolls so that as they add more currencies they don’t have to redo the panel).

This as well as the OP are exactly what I was thinking. It would make things so much easier and free up a small bit of space. It also makes a lot of sense, seeing as those items technically are currency for their respective areas. +1

Do you find JP's (Jumping puzzle) rewarding ?

Funny you should mention Not So Secret. It DOES already have 3 smaller chests along the way to the big one. (One at the “console” room, another in the bottom of the water pipe, and another in the airship’s hold.)

Really? I only ever got to the second small chest, I’ve never actually completed it! >.< But either way, same deal!

I wouldn’t mind having more “consolation prizes” along the way. They already exist in some JP’s (Demongrub Pits, Griffonrook Run), after all. Really short ones like Under New Management or King Jalis’ Refuge probably don’t need them though.

Agreed. Maybe there’s a sort of “checkpoint” system, for longer puzzles (Morgan’s Spiral + Dark Menagerie, etc.). Say, based on the length, the JP can have anywhere from 1-3 “checkpoint” chests that give small rewards along the way, with shorter/easier ones having one (as you mentioned, Under New Management or Urmaug’s Secret in LA), the medium sized ones/normal difficulty ones would have 2 (such as Spekk’s Laboratory) and the larger and more difficult ones would have 3 (like Scavenger’s Chasm and Not so Secret).

I enjoy doing them too. However, the problem with increasing the rewards is that people can just park alts at the end of them.

This would be my main concern as well. We’d see an increased number of either bots, AFKers and the like just sitting at the ends just waiting to get that daily reward. On the other hand, though, you can only have so many alts per the average player, but those who spend large amounts of gems on upgrades would have a leg up over the average player.

I propose that, along with the main chest at the end, there are more smaller chests along the way with smaller rewards, sort of like, “Hey, you got this far, have a tiny reward!” to help nudge the player to further complete the JP. It would also (possibly?) encourage more players to do the JPs as well, because more stuff = happy GW2 player.

You sorta have it in the form of commander tags, though it would be nice with some more UI elements for squads.

Definitely agreed there. While the game is largely designed around 5-man content in terms of instances, a bigger party for the open world with a decent UI would work wonders without having somebody needing to tag up and risk having randoms joining in.

[Suggestion] Increase dungeon token rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

- Suggestion 3: Add extra things that rewards you with more tokens. For instance, slaying every champion on AC paths (including troll) awards you with +20 tokens at the end, or completing AC paths under 10 minutes gives you extra 10 tokens, or no one downing at the last boss gives you +5 tokens, or doing Giganticus Lupicus on the first try gives you +5 tokens. Something unique for each dungoen. This could be done in the same manner as Dry Top is at the moment – Bonus if xy is completed/not lost etc..

- Suggestion 4: At the end of the dungeons, you could choose if instead of the gold reward you would prefer token rewards: for every 50 silvers worth of money, you could choose 10 tokens instead. Eg.: at the end of CoF p1 you could choose +20 tokens instead of the 1 g.

I love those suggestions, especially the third one. Offers more variety in dungeon content and would be a great risk vs. reward for doing it. Suggestion 4 is also a really good idea and would also give players working for a dungeon set a quicker and easier way of going about it. Nothing really constructive to add here, just my full support!

EDIT:

Give mobs in dungeons a chance to drop tokens so that there is an incentive to not skip (or at least an appreciable reward for killing everything).

Alternatively take a GW1 vanquishing approach. If you kill all mobs in a dungeon an extra chest containing a significant number of tokens is awarded.

Also a really, really good idea! Players would still have the option to skip if they want their quick rewards, but you’d still be able to get increased rewards vs. time spent. Also, maybe an increased number of token drops for veterans/elites and champions? Of course the number of tokens would have to be really low as to not give the speed clearers any reason to cry foul.

[sugg] dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Intriguing, but Rasimir said it best…

I know quite a few people in game who are constantly complaining these days how much work it is to get their daily achievements done (preferably all of them to not miss out on a single ap), pick up the daliy boss event bonus chests, do the daily crafting, harvest the daily nodes in their home instances, pick up the daily jp chests from jps where they parked a ton of alts, and maybe do some daily dungeon paths or fractal brackets to round out the grind. These people literally spend hours each night grinding out their daily bonus rewards that they feel forced to pick up and throw a fit if they happen to miss out on one of the rewards or another (due to lack of time or simply forgetting one step or the other).

Of course, it is their personal problem that they feel the need to pick up any daily bonus this game offers to them instead of just playing whatever they enjoy. But adding yet another daily bonus for whatever activity that possibly makes more people feel they miss out on if they don’t do whatever quest it is than it makes people feel additionally rewarded seems counter-productive to me.

The core of this game is not quest-driven but free exploration. You go out and do whatever you feel like, and are (in theory) comparatively rewarded no matter what you choose to do. There already are a lot of extra carrots around for people who prefer to be motivated by the rewards to do stuff. I honestly prefer to just go out and do whatever I want and to feel that I spend my time just as “productive” as people doing other things, instead of the game dangling (too many) daily carrots in my face all the time.

Extra daily quests for the sake of questing (like small scavenger hunts or solo bounties) would be right up my alley, but please no extra rewards. If the rewards are in the same league as regular dynamic events and possibly jp chests I’m all for it, but if it’s a reward system that adds to the “daily grind” for people then I don’t want anything like it.

I wouldn’t want another reason when I log in to groan and think to myself, “Oh lord, I have to finish this or else I won’t get the reward I want/need…” which, to me, would just add to the repetitiveness.

Also, adding to what Dragon Aine said…

I personally don’t care for a daily achievement quest per say, but i think this can become interesting if implemented in the right way. I wouldn’t go and do a daily quest if will take an hour or so. Now, if the ‘Quest’ was something like a Heart Quest, that takes 5-10 minutes, and be fun to do, yet challenging, it might be awesome! Maybe include longer or larger quests for a Monthly Achievement under a separate category. Also, have the rewards be consistent with the time and challenge put into it. Maybe have the daily drop a Rare item, or a few Masterwork items. The Monthly, or larger/longer ones drop a Rare and a few others with a small chance of an exotic. There have been talks of scavenger hunts, this would be interesting as well implemented into it. Just something different then the find a person to kill, or some escort.

Just my two cents for what that’s worth on this idea.

PS: Nice post, well though out and nice to see that the comments are constructive as well.

…let’s say that the daily quest takes place in your home instance? How about, once a day (since many head to their home instance to gather the nodes daily anyway?) there’s a random event in your home instance (say, defend this, escort that, etc.) that takes roughly 5-10 minutes to complete that gives a scaled money/karma reward with an item called a “Daily Grab Bag” that, when opened, gives a SINGLE item from a list of possible normal daily rewards, but lesser versions (tiny karma jugs, +10-50 luck, etc)? Or, perhaps, maybe no “Grab Bag” at all and maybe a simple T1-4 crafting bag, scaled? Not only would it give more incentive to do that simple daily, but it would also give players a reason to visit their home instance after the PS.

Of course I think that the daily “quest” not be required to complete the normal dailies, and it should be more of an extra side people can do for that small, extra boost? It would also give newer players a different alternative to get crafting materials…?

As for the monthly “quest”, how about it taking place in the player’s home city/starting area? Maybe a decent-sized meta with a scaled (but lesser) monthly reward that involves fighting a few elites/veterans, possibly a defense segment? Or, better yet, development for Destiny’s Edge 1.0, as the races already have representatives of each in the form of that race’s particular mentor giving a random task each month to be completed in the form of furthering their agenda?

In-game music macros?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

How will they restrict the use of a macro? Either macros are against the rules, or they are not. It seems like it would take a lot of resources to check where each player happened to be and what they might be doing when using a macro.

Otherwise, the ‘item’ in question would need a built-in, in-game macro. This might be something viable once many of the other more requested content is added to the game.

Item auto-equips selected instrument
Item allows you to type into a text box
Spaces count as delays (One second per space)
> or < counts as octive change

The text would look like:

475696>5486935<38569 486 385 385967

Done. No abuse possible.

On the first part of the quote yes, it would be perfectly viable as a new feature once some things are fixed or put in. I can definitely see it being part of a two-month patch or even a feature pack.

On the second part of the quote, also a good idea, but how would that be put in, exactly? The game doesn’t really have too many text prompts like that and it would either have to be worked from the ground up, or another similar mechanic would have to be messed around with a bit. A good idea, though.

The obvious comparison we can draw is Lord of the Rings online that had similar systems to above, but not quite like those. The game would access direct files from a chosen folder that were laid out specifically using a certain language read by the game to then play it using the held instrument. While it would certainly be odd for GW2 to have it, it can certainly be done! Just look at how the TP works – maybe a similar (but heftier system?) that uses a forum here with various works? Or maybe a specific web-page in-game one can go to to get some specific song scrolls made by other players, which can be then consumed one-time (but free, similar to the Zenith skins) to play the music with the held instrument?

Just spitballin’ here!

[SUGGESTION] Improving Communications

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I love that you’re thinking about this, and offering suggestions on how to keep on our path of improved communications. (And <3 for noticing the recent increase in posts. It’s so nice that so many forum members are noticing our increased focus and efforts!)

Here are a few questions:

  • How do we keep the stickied thread meaningful? That is, how do we use it to focus on truly major issues? Because what’s major to one player may be minor to someone else.
    • (See the thread about the disabled animations if you want an example. You’ll note that some players completely agreed with the decision and welcomed the info that they would return; others were puzzled by the decision or felt it shouldn’t have happened, quite the variety, as in most threads.)
  • What’s a realistic bar? 5000 reads? 400 posts? 10 pages? And, if there is a bar, can we expect that someone wouldn’t bump a thread — sure, upon risk of forum moderation, of course — simply to meet the bar?
  • What about the questions that can’t be answered? I think it would be natural that a “highlights” thread might contain posts that we simply cannot answer. But it would be sad if forum members then got angry because by highlighting the topic it seemed to require addressing? Could forum members — and I know this is difficult — agree that an answer is welcome, and that the answer may not be possible?
  • Wouldn’t this possibly deflect conversation in various threads? If such a thing existed, I’d suggest that it would link to the highlighted thread and that any dev response go in that original thread.
  • Where does this thread live? Guild Wars 2 Discussion? Somewhere else?

Anyway just some questions that occurred to me. Let’s continue the conversation!

Very fair points and I agree on most of them.

1. Agreed greatly on that one. It would be difficult to keep it focused on what’s truly considered ‘major’ by the majority (see what I did there?) and what one player finds important, the one next to them would puzzle over why it’s an issue in the first place.

2. Also agreed. I also think that it would create a small niche of forumer (or at least a passionate player) to begin to bump their threads either using their account, or multiple accounts (as has been previously shown in some threads).

2a. I think a realistic bar would be something like this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Is-the-maize-balm-rat-farm-an-exploit It’s got a lot of replies in various camps, and it’s a big hot-button issue with the current events as well as a respectable number of replies and a good number of reads.

3. I personally think that most forum-goers would agree that an answer can sometimes not be given, or at least some sort of answer is welcome (I certainly fall into that category, and many of my friends as well). Personal opinion, but mileage may vary.

4. Also agree fully. A simple list of links and the thread’s title (and if the title falls short, a short description of what’s within) would do wonders.

5. On where it should go, that is a really hard thing to say. For me, I frequent Guild Wars 2 discussion, the class forums (mainly Thief and Engineer) and the dungeon forums, as are the main parts of the game I’m interested in. Honestly, though, I’d say Guild Wars 2 Discussion, as it’s the general discussion pretty much, and if anyone were to go looking for a sticky such as the one suggested it’d be there.

5a. If I were to go so far as to say that, maybe, if this were considered, maybe an entirely new forum up in the News, Game Discussion or Community Corner? That, instead of just a sticky, a thread would be moved there if considered heavily? But that could create another problem in that many people would want to be put there just to be there, to be noticed…

I’d say keep tossing ideas, as I’d love to see something like this. Any answer is better than no answer I say, and a sticky/forum such as the suggested would be amazing!

EDIT: I think that, in order to be put into this sticky/forum, a heavy skim through a few pages should be done by whomever decides to sticky it to see if any REAL discussion is happening rather than a bump/15char fest is going on.

Yet, in the Labyrinth, people do manage to make their way to the group/Commander tag, whatever. Otherwise, there would seldom be a ‘zerg’. It just takes some practice to be able to run past enemies/kill them/know when to stop/avoid/fight.

Otherwise, everything would be much like the Level 2-3 zones, I guess. /shrug

Are you folks having lab problems equipped with traits?

I ask because the lab is pretty EZ. Although a dumb idea, a well equipped 80 should be able to solo most of the content.

Gotta agree here. I’m not a very experienced thief, but in full exotics armor/weapons and rare trinkets (Knight’s armor, Zerk weapons and trinkets) I can easily solo the mobs there aside from the big bosses (Labyrinth guy, the Grand whatever of candy corn). It didn’t take me long to realize that a quick interrupt on the mummies and archer skeletons after a single shot to aggro them, or a quick dodge a second after the first hit would easily interrupt/evade their CC and get you an easy kill.

I think it would just see you have Factions already linked and ignore the second addition of it, while still adding in the others, so you have the complete set.

I think that’s the most likely thing to happen, as they probably thought of this. I’ll see if anybody else has a more definitive answer before putting this as the answer.

Confessions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Cool thread! Here are my own confessions…

-Even after over a year of playing I’ve only leveled two characters to 80, an asura engineer and a norn thief

-Even though I know it’s not true, I think I’m kitten as my engineer

-I cannot stop making asura alts. I think it’s because I’m really tall in reality

-No matter how much I try on my thief I cannot utilize its core functionality well, and always end up playing it like a straight up swashbuckler

-When I try to create a new look for my engineer or thief, I somehow always end up using the subterfuge hood skin for some reason, even though I want something else

-I want a legendary so bad it hurts, but I can’t be kittened to go after the crafting materials or farm the gold (lazy much?)

-Even though I know it’s not the meta, I run a knight’s build on my thief and a rabid build on my engi in both PvE and WvWvW. I personally enjoy those builds.

-When roaming doing map completion on my engineer, I love to look for hidden climbable objects to get outside the map’s boundaries.

-In the areas I have found to get outside of the boundaries, I love it when I confuse people in the normal map area when I type in /say

-When people ask me for advice I always oblige, even when they start getting into ‘noob’ territory

-No matter how hard I try I can’t help but hoard my items

-When I fight world bosses I actually use my full skill set on my engineer. On my thief, though, I spam shortbow 1 or p/p dual wield 3

-I’m secretly in love with Eir Stegalkin and Zojja

-I cry every time I see the image of Eir holding a dead Snaff ([img]http://40.media.tumblr.com/2ad710983b921b73bd7cd43052c7103a/tumblr_n6p28kj1JD1s6c8gro1_500.jpg[/img]

-I really freaking hate mapping out the Black Citadel and The Grove

And finally:

-Every time I run my engineer I always get the urge to use Glue Shot on downed players or monsters, and when I do do it, I always /laugh followed by a /dance
