I dunno, I played EQ2 and WoW for a while and their voice channels were way underutilized by the general population in my experience. Most people tended to use Teamspeak or Raidcall and, more recently, Discord, since their tools were more fleshed out and you could more easily control who could and couldn’t talk.

I’ve seen this suggestion crop up a lot since I started playing. I’d love to see it in the game. If your bags get full when opening all, just have the loot on standby just like it does when you try to loot from an enemy when your bags are full. Or just have it stop opening bags, or both.

Most boring race

Will we ever going to see Gear Progression?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I don’t think the game is about gear progression at all, aside from ascended and legendary tier stuff. For me it’s about raising my skill level, setting goals for myself (such as completing all jumping puzzles, leveling all professions, etc.) and the feel of playing with my guild mates.

Maybe you should just move on? You got way more than your money’s worth out of GW2. It might be time to move on to another game that gives you what you want, like WoW, BDO, etc.

Just like Jarvis I have to respectfully disagree. I quite enjoy Jumping Puzzles, even the harder ones such as the Ember Bay one and Scavenger’s Chasm. The rewards suck, yeah, but I don’t do them for the rewards.

I think the G600 looks to be the one for me. I’ve been looking up Razer mice and most of them have mentioned the problems Fermi points out. And the G600 is reasonably priced, too. Also, @Maethor, I can’t find any locations near me that carry it, nor any retailers that can get it to me without high shipping prices. It looks nice, though!

Fermi says stay away from Razer, but Malkavian (love the reference! I’m a huge VTM fan!) and Haishao says it’s pretty good. I’ve also never heard of the Perdition @No One. Also, Nostromo n52…it looks promising, I suppose. I’ll have to gather some data before I decide, though.

Hi all. I have difficulty using my keybinds effectively even though they’re all around my WASD keys. So I’m looking to get a gaming mouse with some thumb buttons. However I’m not sure which one I should get. I hear the Naga is pretty good, but I’ve heard that its software is buggy or sometimes isn’t compatible with some games.

What other multiple button mice are good? I’m looking for the kind like the Naga that have the ~12 buttons on the side, or something similar. My price point is around $100 USD. Thanks!

GW1 Account Help

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Hello. This may be a bit long so I apologize.

A month ago, I wanted to play some Factions. I downloaded the GW1 client and tried to login, but my account info wasn’t working at all. I tried both my old GW1 info and my GW2 info, but neither worked. So I checked my account page only to find that my GW1 account was no longer linked. I distinctly remember linking both of them a year or so ago, maybe a bit longer than that. I also remember going through support to retrieve my GW1 character’s name to do just that, since it’d been so long.

So a month ago (just after I found out my account wasn’t linked anymore) I sent another ticket to support. First, GM Squeeky replied saying:

Hello -my name-,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your account. Taking a look into this Guild Wars 1 account and it does not appear that it was ever attached to a Guild Wars 2. I would be happy to help you recover your Guild Wars 1 account as soon as I verify your ownership of the account. Would you mind providing either the serial code and the original billing address you placed under the account at the time of registration? I will respond back to you as soon as I see your response.

Regards,

GM Squeeky
Guild Wars 2 Support Team
http://help.guildwars2.com/

I said that I couldn’t find the serial code anymore since I bought Factions physically around 2006-2007, but I roughly had the billing address (it was an old bank account my mother used way back then, which has since been closed). Then GM Squeeky replied:

Hello -my name-,

Thank you for providing as much information as possible. However, because you are unable to provide the serial code along with the billing, I will need to ask for you to submit a new ticket from the original hotmail email address. Once you have done this, let me know on this ticket so I can quickly locate your new ticket.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

GM Squeeky
Guild Wars 2 Support Team
http://help.guildwars2.com/

Okay, that sucks. I had, thankfully, linked my current Gmail address to that old Hotmail account. However, to recover it (I’ve since forgotten the password) I’d have to have both the linked Gmail address and my years old phone number which was linked to it. I’ve long, long since changed phone numbers.

So I had to request access by submitting my linked Gmail address and waiting a whole 30 days before getting access. Problem is, I completely forgot that I had done that, and when I went to get access yesterday, the period ran out. I now have to wait another 30 days.

But then I told them the name of one of my GW1 characters, plus the class they were (warrior/monk), which had been on said account at one point. But that wasn’t enough, apparently:

Dr.Panda here, Unfortunately under these circumstances we are unable to assist you with gaining access to this account. If you happen to find your serial key or regain access to the accounts E-mail address let us know and we will assist you right away.

Regards,

GM Dr Panda
Guild Wars 2 Support Team
http://help.guildwars2.com/

So now I’m at a loss. I’m sure I can get access to my Hotmail account in due time, but I know the billing address is correct and that the name and class combination of my character is correct. I also know for a fact that I linked the two accounts some time ago, around the creation of my new main, Biyx.

Is there anything I can do at this point, or do I have to wait another month?

[LFG][NA][PvE] LF dung/frac guild for newbie

in Looking for...

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Hi. Been playing for about two and a half years, but never really got into dungeons or fractals. I’m looking to rectify that now.

I’m after a friendly community, and swearing and jokes are a-okay with me. I’d prefer if there was a Discord/Teamspeak/etc. available during runs, but it’s not a requirement. My mic is okay-ish quality, but it’s easy to understand me and there isn’t much background noise. I’m getting a new mic next month so that problem will be solved. Medium sized guilds are preferred, but not a requirement.

I’m open to getting better and I listen to instructions well. Also open to suggestions, too. However, I don’t want to play any other profession, as DH is my favorite.

Relevant info:

  • Country: NA
  • Timezone: CST
  • Profession: Dragonhunter
  • Log-in times: Usually on for most of the week around all day, but some days I set aside for family matters or spending time with my wife.
  • Skill level: Semi-low to medium. I played open-world stuff (core Tyria) for most of my time, but I did delve into HoT a bit.
  • AP: 4,339
  • My armor/weapons/trinkets are a mix of Knight’s and Zerk. My armor and weapons are all exotic, and I have 3 ascended trinkets out of 6, plus an ascended backpiece. I’m open to buying new equipment once I get enough gold to do so.
  • Sigils/Runes: I run Sup Rune of the Flame Legion (6/6) and Sup Sigil of Force/Sup Sigil of Accuracy. Once again, I’m open to buying new runes or sigils if I need to.

All of that info probably isn’t needed since I’m a semi-newbie to dungeons and fractals, but I thought it would be relevant to better help guilds recruit me. Thanks for reading, and I hope I find a good guild soon!

Might need 13 (don’t forget underwater).

Does this use regular bank slots? Or were you hoping it would be added to Material Storage? Technical limitations don’t allow too much to be added to Material Storage (according to the Devs).

I think it would use regular bank slots from what I read. But I think it’d be better to have a completely separate storage option for them, since there are so many.

What about “no food” and “no elite skills”?

I felt that not allowing traits was already a huge handicap. You’d need any boost you could get.

I’ve been playing Engineer for too long. I don’t need traits to run a flamethrower and win.

I see…I can say the same about my ranger and guardian, too, with different weapons and skills. I’ll have to think of a way to revamp this when I wake up later today (long night…).

EDIT: I’ve been talking with some of my guildies and I’ve come to the conclusion that the loss of traits IS a big enough handicap. Sorry!

Biyx's All-For-Nothing Challenge!

MrWubzy.3587

(Sorry for the bad graphics. I play on a potato!)

(Also, please remember this is just for fun, it’s not a contest!)

Excelsior, fellow Tyrians!

For some time, I was alone. So alone that I created a messenger golem to record and send messages to myself during experiments. One day, I decided that enough was enough! I was going to have the perfect lab partner!

I began testing and testing, until, eventually, I figured it all out. I figured out how to clone myself. How, you may ask? I’m not about to reveal my secrets!

But I finally had the perfect partner. A genius in every sense of the word. I then decided that it was the perfect opportunity to do some field testing. So I sent my clone out to the farthest reaches of the continent to collect samples, do field testing and various other activities.

So here you have it: Biyx’s All-For-Nothing Challenge.

Goal: Reach level 80 without dying.

1-If you die, you delete the character. No do-overs, pleb!*
2-You cannot BUY anything from the TP. You CAN SELL things to the TP, though.*
3-No handouts! You can’t use anything other players give to you.
4-You CANNOT craft anything using professions.
5-You can ONLY use gear/items you get from: corpse loot, event/map completion bouncy chests, and level-up rewards.*
6-You CANNOT use any account-wide currency (it’s OK to use waypoints, see rule 12).*
7-No traits! Even if they make life so easy.
8-No guild (or at least a guild with no perks)! Those perks are heavy.*
9-You can’t play your personal story, nor any living world episodes. Also no HoT story, and no current events.
10-If your level is the current highest recommended level for your zone, you MUST move on the next zone appropriate
for your level.*
11-NO EotM! NO WvW! NO PvP (like it matters)!*
12-You CANNOT use waypoints in your current zone. You CAN, however, use waypoints OUTSIDE of your zone
(example: you’re in Queensdale and you want to waypoint to Lion’s Arch).
13-You CANNOT use items in your shared inventory slots.
14-NO dungeons, NO fractals, and NO raids.

This rule only applies for a FULL death (a.k.a. you have to waypoint to resurrect). If you get rubbed by a player, this rule still applies.
*
This applies to the gem store as well. No boosters!
*This rule is a bit hard to explain. Basically, you can only use gear/items you get from looting corpses or bouncy chests from event completion or map completion.
*
It’s OK to buy these things from vendors using gold or karma: bags and salvage kits.
*
*If you don’t have a low-level guild without perks, or no open slot and don’t want to delete a guild, you can skirt this rule.
*
*For example: you’re in Queensdale, which is a 1-15 zone. Once you ding level 15, you MUST move on to Kessex Hills.
*
****You CANNOT use the free port to EotM, WvW or the PvP lobby to use their services (example: repair vendors ((or vendors in general)).

So there you have it! What do you think? Should things be added or taken away? Is something a bit off? Do you think my ears are too big? Let me know!

My glorious clone!

I linked my GW1 and GW2 accounts some time ago (a year or so I think). I logged in to my account tonight to find that they were no longer linked. Is this a common thing, or is it just me? I’d really like to replay Factions.

I’ve never heard of it happening. I don’t even remember if ANet can manually delink accounts upon request.

My two cents: Open world dueling

in PvP

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Hello! I’ve seen some threads on this forum and Reddit about dueling (open world) lately, and it’s pretty much a consensus that nobody wants it. ArenaNet gave us a taste of dueling with guild hall arenas, and I can say that people in my guilds absolutely love it, especially if they’re in to PvP (hell, even I’ve taken part in it even though I hate PvP). Let’s not forget 1v1 WvW roaming, which I’ve heard is fun as all get out.

Since we already have forms of dueling in the game, you can say that adding open world dueling isn’t really necessary. I’d say the same, although the addition would be welcomed by some of my friends. I wouldn’t mind it, since there would likely be a tool I can use to opt out of all duel requests (hopefully).

It doesn’t hurt the game, but it also doesn’t really add to it. So where’s the push to add it? Put simply, people want it just to have it (if you ask me). I’d say that’s a pretty weak argument. You can say that people want it to test builds and DPS, but we already have tools for that (1v1 PvP rooms come to mind). You can also say that people just want to stroke their ego, to be better than everyone else. But those are also pretty weak arguments.

What it all boils down to is: what benefit would it give to us to add open world dueling? What would be the purpose? I honestly don’t know. But I can say that it wouldn’t hurt the game at all to have it. It’d just be another fun side thing to do when you’re bored.

Since it’s not really a priority, I’m not asking ArenaNet to add it right away. They’ve got better things to work on right now. All I can say is that it’d be a nice feature to have for some of my friends and guild mates, and I want to see them happy.

It can’t hurt to have a little competition, right?

Tonic wardrobe?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Yes, all the yes here. I collect tonics and it’s cumbersome to have to switch them between characters, not to mention the space they take up in my inventory. Make it work like finishers-the temporary ones (like karma tonics) would have charges, the infinite ones would work like outfits. But they’d have to remove the timer on the infinite ones, otherwise you’d run into some issues having to constantly open your wardrobe and select the tonic again.

I think those are all good ideas, especially the one where you announce that you’re on your way to a downed player. It’s sometimes too late when you see “A noble soul is reviving you!” on your map.

To add to this, maybe add ’shoutout’s like in Monster Hunter? Customize-able text strings that you push a button and they appear in chat. You can get around spam by adding a cooldown (maybe 5-10 seconds). It would make it much easier to know when other players in your party are about to pop boons/cleanses/etc..

Marriable NPC's?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I think this sort of mechanic tends to work better in single player RPGs than MMOs.

And that’s why people invented role play.

Somehow GW2 doesn’t really provide roleplay elements in general. We’re just a homeless character being dragged along by the story of fighting dragons. We don’t have choices in the story (apart from the small things in the personal story): We can’t decide if we sneak into a place and infiltrate the White Mantle or just hack n slash our way in. Compares to other MMORPGs, the amount of player and environment interaction plus emotes are ridiculous. We can’t even sit on a chair as someone else just posted in a new thread.
So I don’t consider GW2 to be a mmoRPG, but just an MMO game instead.

I agree, but I’ve gotten around those things by just pretending. In RP (and a lot of video games/board games/etc.) it’s all about imagination.

Leveling fast. EOTM or Tyria exploration?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Tyria exploration – mainly because if you want to get somewhere in PvE later on after levelling via other means, you could have done it anyway whilst levelling and gained XP. And karma and stuff too.

In my opinion this is the best way. You’ll get the waypoints, which will help when you need to get around, and you’ll get karma, gold, new equipment via karma vendors, and access to farming areas. Sure, the karma and gold might not be comparable to EotM, but it’s there.

1. Add a new emote /sitchair

Actually… i remember City of Heroes had a sitchair emote (s), where would put your character on said position. That way you wont have to redo all chairs. Sure, depending the chair you’ll have characters feet clipping through the floor… but I’d prefer that over nothing.

2. More work, but earn money with it. I found the suggestion funny:

Animation where you pull out your own chair.
Make it scale to character size.
Add new chairs to gemstore like mail birds.

I gotta agree, that would be awesome to have. And the RP community would absolutely eat the chairs out of the gem store. Too much work sounds like an excuse rather than a reason. I agree, there are better things to work on, but they can’t really have exhausted all of their resources just yet. Just a small patch note.

Where is the build diversity ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think there’s plenty of build diversity, but one must define ‘viable’ and ‘optimal’ first. I personally use meta builds during dungeons and fractals, and a fun, personalized one when I roam in PvE doing map completion. It’s nowhere near optimal, but it’s viable as all get out.

I agree that the new specializations are far superior to their old counterparts. They promised us horizontal progression with HoT, and then they stepped back a bit with the specializations.

I think they should add dual class options like in the first game. It’d be a nightmare to balance, but it’d be ten times more fun and rewarding if you ask me.

Is the game really on the right track?

To your first point about WvW, you should be in a WvW guild if you want to WvW with your guild. It was pretty much a given that when the megaserver was introduced, you’d be in mixed guilds.

To your second point, I don’t really understand what you mean by a ‘power up’. Are you referring to harvesting nodes, decorations…?

Third point, I’m all for more variety in guild missions. My guilds rarely complete the PvE ones anymore and just focus on PvP missions. It’d be nice to see more types.

Fourth point, a guild list would be much appreciated. WoW had it and it was easy to sort through them all, but it felt a little impersonal and meta when it came to gameplay. Maybe if they put their own spin on it?

Fifth point, the game was called Guild Wars after events in the game’s history (source: The Guild Wars).

Last point, I both agree and disagree. Farming is a major part in any MMO (and some other games, too). And I kind of like how they’re doing it now, but there should be a bit less. Opinions may vary though.

Also, maybe you’re doing it wrong (when it comes to your guild)? There’s a lot of things you can do with a guild roster that don’t include in-game things. You could hold a fashion contest, do a crusade, do naked dungeon/fractal runs, personal festivals, giveaways…the list goes on. My guild does them frequently, and they’re a lot of fun.

UI elements wishlist

Those sound nice. Mine are:

-Fully customize-able UI just like in GW1 and most other MMOs.

And that’s about it. This includes being able to move health bars, being able to move the skill bar and personal HP anywhere I want to, and being able to move the radar around anywhere I want to. This would help me in a lot of ways.

GW2 has better dodging mechanics than pretty much every other game, just because you’re invulnerable for the whole duration. It drives me crazy in other games when I dodge an attack but still take damage (Monster Hunter and its competitors are awful with this).

Monster Hunter dodging works fine. It’s juat we get 250, 500, 750 milisecond evades in GW2 which is huge compared to MH which is 120ms or 250ms if you have Evade up skill iirc. And in that game the entire monster apendage (like a massive tail 6 times the width of you character for example) becomes the hitbox that you have to evade, which means it’s impossible to dodge some attacks or just maybe barely if you time it perfectly. There are no “red circles”, cones or lines to tell you to dodge, you need to mentally catalogue what the tell is for each attack, and each tell is different. It’s a much more organic and reflexive combat experience rather than this games reactionary one.

I agree. I play Monster Hunter on the reg (since Tri) and the evasion there is much more involving and dynamic.

It’s been many years since I played LOTRO, but I thought that game had the best wardrobe/dye system bar none. It’s what I miss when I play any other MMO.

While I miss mounts (loved collecting them), this game does seem a bit easier to get around in with all the waypoints. But mounts are one more way to personalize your character, from your choice of models.

I do appreciate that zones do not outgrow their relevance. I enjoy seeing people of all levels everywhere I go.

My wife and I have only gotten to level 14 so far, so we haven’t experienced much when it comes to the wardrobe or dye systems. We’ve gotten some dyes and encountered an outfit merchant though.

The wardrobe/dye system.

Actually, I wish GW2 had Rift’s wardrobe system. They can mix and match different “weight” gear. Putting Plate and Chain skins on my Mage’s armor and using a Hammer skin on my Staff is FUN! I wish we could do that in GW2! Our dyes are better, though.

But other than that, some of the things I miss from GW2 in other MMOs:
1. Casting skills while moving.
2. Dodging.
3. “Best gear” is craftable and I don’t have to farm dungeons/raids all day.
4. No new level cap, my gear does not become outdated.
5. PvP is about skills, not gear.
6. Underwater combat. Yes, it’s neglected but what we have in GW2 is the best I’ve ever seen!

I agree on all your numbers there. Especially the level cap, I hated having to level all over again in WoW and other games. But now we have the Mastery System, and they’re undoubtedly going to add more masteries, so…

Racial illusions

Asura master race!

Kidding aside, you should’ve played a human from the start. I knew going into it that my armor would be hard to see by other players, since I mained a gnome monk in WoW. That doesn’t mean I don’t bother with making my asura look good, I do. It’s just a different kind of good compared to other races.

I actually really like this idea.

Forget about race change options offered by other games and how similar this is or is not for a minute and just focus on the idea of a racial tonic. Think about it, we’ve already got tonics that turn you into all kinds of monsters, trees, animals, furniture, skritt etc.

Why not a tonic to turn you into a human? Or a sylvari? Or a norn, or a charr or an asura?

It would definitely be possible to make a tonic that turns you into a different race, it’s no different to the ones to turn you into anything else. The problem is that would use a generic model, like the NPCs. But then it’s also possible to make a tonic that only changes your armour, like the Common Clothing Tonic so it seems like it should be possible to make the opposite of that too: one which changes your character model but not the armour. Especially since the vast majority of armour is already available on all races.

Admittedly cultural armour would be a problem because the models for those on other races do not exist. But maybe it could be replaced with the equivalent, so for example a human wearing T2 cultural armour gets changed into a charr wearing T2 cultural charr armour. I’m not sure if that’s possible, but if it is I think it would be the best solution.

The final consideration I can think of is whether it should give you the same face, hair etc. every time or randomise it, or maybe offer a small range of choices like the Mystery tonics do. So for example you have an Endless Mystery Human Tonic and it will change you into one of 5 human appearances, and if you want a different one you just use the tonic again.

I’m all for more tonics. I collect them just to look like other things, it’s fun. Especially the one that turns you into furniture.

Why is the endgame so "unrewarding"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

It’s a matter of perspective. Most MMOs tend to reward you with better gear (power creep, gear grind, etc.) but this game does it with skins. In my eyes, the game is plenty rewarding, with new skins and stat combos, especially at endgame. Besides, I’d rather not have gear grind in this game (gear grind for better armor in particular).

MrWubzy.3587

I’ve been playing Lord of the Rings Online with my wife lately. It’s a good game with a great community, but I can’t help but think that it’s missing some things. Then I look back to my year+ of playing GW2 and realize that it’s spoiled me rotten.

Things like Waypoints, fast on foot speed, easy to acquire gear and the wonderful transmutation and dye systems really hooked me to this game. Every time I play another MMO I always miss those things, and stop playing after a short amount of time. It’s a shame, really, but it can’t be helped in my case.

What other things spoiled you guys?

It’s been talked about to death already. The short answer is no, no dueling, we have personal PVP arenas for that. The long answer can be found with a quick Google search.

Mastery help

Hi all, I’m after a good way to get masteries. I can’t stand adventures, I’ve tried a lot of them but I’m just not as good as I once was. I’ve heard I can gain masteries in Ember Bay and the other new maps, but I have no idea how to get to them (google isn’t showing me anything for some reason)…

Any help is appreciated.
