I never even knew that existed, huh. Maybe they’ll re-add it, or it’s just bugged right now? They had a recent issue with Living World Season 2, and it’s probably related (somehow?).

Obligatory 'best name I've seen' thread...

Not sure if this is considered naming and shaming (this thread), but I really hope not. I saw one of the best names I’ve come across in the game last night, and this got me to remembering some other names I saw way back when I made my first toon. Pics below, and kudos to these guys/gals for picking some awesome names

[Suggestion] Preview gear in the open world

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MrWubzy.3587

Could work, but it seems a bit excessive for me. Every preview I’ve seen has satisfied me, and I utilize not just the in game preview, but websites as well to see the items in action (images, sometimes video/GIFs). That’s just me, though, and this is the first topic I’ve seen of this nature regarding previews. Maybe others can give better feedback on it?

I got Nika’s Gloves (exotic) from the chest in Ashford, in the cave near Lake Feritas. It also awards Empyreal’s to level 80’s. So I may get an ascended there someday?

I can confirm getting some named exotics from JPs (I got one from Obsidian Sanctum when I finished it ((Stardust))) as well as ascended mats (Empyreal fragments from tougher ones, Bloodstone Dust from easier ones). It’s likely you might get an ascended weapon/armor drop from them some day, but we won’t know until it actually hapens.

Between Now and Then

They can’t release any info about upcoming patches because that would provide info on HoT’s release which hasn’t been announced yet.

We will be in the dark until a release date is set.

Depending on how far out it is, that’s not necessarily true.

The main problem is that they have stated more than once that they’re not working on anything but HoT. So until HoT is released there is nothing else. Even releasing something that was already out wouldn’t work because the story would have to be adjusted so it makes sense in context.

That is unless the released old content has nothing to do with the story. The only likely candidate is SAB, since it has no impact on the main story set up, but there could be other things. They’d be crazy not to put SOMETHING out there until Heart of Thorns, lest players get bored an find an alternative. I don’t care if it’s SAB or not, I’d just like something to be put out there for us to do that isn’t the norm until HoT hits.

I personally hope for a couple of things (all mentioned above):

-SAB
-Dragon Festival
-Crown Pavilion (possibly?)
-Any other sort of festival/mini-game

Pretty much anything to fill the time. I would prefer, though, if SAB were to make a return. I never got to play it, but watching the videos on it makes me want to play it so badly. If it doesn’t return, though, I can be content with a festival of sorts that lasts for a couple of months.

MrWubzy.3587

I never got to play SAB. I started playing last year around the end of summer. I do remember, though, one of my first questions when I made my permanent toon (an asura guardian) was, “What’s that weird cube thing?”

Since then I’ve been reading/watching up on SAB. I watched a small LP of it on YouTube, read some in-depth guides and saved a few screenshots and I have to say that, even though I haven’t played it, I’m hooked. I’m a sucker for platforming in any fashion, regardless of art style, and SAB seemed right up my alley (especially Tribulation mode, love me some challenge!).

I was honestly expecting it to be available on April Fools Day, but hey, Anet made fools out of us for expecting it, eh? While I enjoyed the airplane noises and the character model temp-changes, I wish it was SAB instead. What better time than now during the Living Story break to put something like that in until Heart of Thorns rolls out? Either that or give us something else equivalent.

I still love ya, Anet. But it would be pretty awesome to actually play SAB. Not only that, but it would be pretty awesome to get all of those new players you just piled in hyped for a new (new to them) feature, eh? Something to spice up their play time until the big expansion? You sly dogs, that’s why there were two sales so close together, eh? I can dream, I suppose!

I would welcome this as an addition to the Cooking profession (possibly Jewelcrafting [rare gems found in deep waters?]) but it probably won’t happen soon as warbignime said above. It’s not a huge thing right now, and Anet is focusing on HoT and (possibly?) other stuff to keep us occupied until then. But, hey, I’d love to go fishing in Queensdale for a day or two, just to see how big that monster really is.

What about give this option to commanders? Something simple like “focus” “defend” “stack” “spread” etc with video and audio clue? Would be awesome in every game mode.

Or, to add to this, how about shout-outs? Games like Monster Hunter and GRAW do this very well. Press a button and a shout-out is placed in chat automatically, sometimes (in the case of Monster Hunter) custom shout-outs. It’d probably also help if they were hotkey based so they can be used in a pinch.

Ranger pet AI issues?

I’ve seen a couple of people say on the forums and in game that the ranger pet AI is horrid. Comments saying that the pets don’t attack what’s in front of them, sometimes even running away from what they just attacked, etc. But I don’t understand it. My pets always do exactly what I tell them to do when I use a utility skill/command skill (profession skill). So am I just really lucky, or am I doing something ?right?

[Suggestion] In game art gallery

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I think this would be a nice addition if they ever added player housing, being able to purchase/unlock paintings to add into your home. But for the current game, I’d probably see it all being unlocked via the achievement panel somehow. But then again, you could always just do /wiki if you’re after some small lore reads.

I do agree, though, that the lore in the game takes a back seat in many places. There are a metric ton of NPC dialogues in this game that, if you take the time to speak to them, reveal some really intriguing things about the area/characters around you. Heck, the Priory is a great example of this in its own right, but it’s not the only instance of it.

I think it’d help with exposure a little. But honestly, if you’re a PC gamer you’ve probably at least heard of this thing called Guild Wars 2, and most PC gamers I know use Steam. The ones that don’t get their news from TotalBiscuit/AngryJoe, and they’ve covered the game already. Trapped in Virtual Tyria as Your Character

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

  • Which character/profession would you rather be?

I’d rather be a Guardian. I’m very protective of my loved ones and this would be the perfect profession for me. And I’d find a use for my (sometimes) obnoxious screams (shouts).

  • Which game mechanic would you rather not have to contend with?

I’d rather not have to deal with instances. To be closed off from everyone else while I’m roaming the world, trapped in it would be really weird and lonely. I’d want to be around everyone all the time.

  • What currently unimplemented game mechanic would you wish was implemented?

First person view. It’d be really odd to have to learn how to walk while not being able to see through my own eyes.

  • Which NPC would you be most likely to seek out and befriend or clobber or ________?

*I’d instantly go after Eir Stegalkin as a friend. She seems like a really honorable person and a great friend, and if I’m trapped in this world with no combat experience, I’d rather have her trusty skills at my side than my own.

As for a NPC I’d clobber, I’d want to punch Trahearne in the face. Not because I hate him as a character, but because my hatred for how he stole my part in my own story.*

  • Which zone would you choose to call home?

Metrica Province, hands down. The architecture and jungle life there is beautiful, and not to mention I’d feel at home with all the technology around. It’d also be really awesome to learn from the asura.

  • Insert your own questions here!

If you were called to arms to fight in the Silverwastes, would you go, knowing your own fighting skills?

I could go on.

I did this a lot as a kid! I remember years ago when I was playing Rocket Knight for the Genesis, that I made myself a challenge after I beat it: not to use the jetpack attack on normal enemies or bosses (unless absolutely required to hit them). It was fun, difficult, and rewarding!

But what would they use for weapons if a true fists-of-doom profession? No weapons, no bonuses. They could do various martial arts weapons, but wouldn’t that defeat the purpose?

Anyone remember the Diablo-like game Sacred? Maybe do brass-knuckle-like weapons?

There are a couple of weapons they could possibly add, and an existing one to the class:

  • Knuckles (commonly called a Cestus)
  • Spiked gauntlets
  • Staves (already in the game, seeing as its a martial artist)
  • Claws

And yeah, the name Sacred rings a bell (namely Sacred 2). I can only imagine what a fists-in-yo-face profession would play like in GW2. Probably something akin to what a ranger fights like with a sword main-hand.

Funny hints at a trinity

Bunkers – kinda niche, never essential.

Healers – you’re trolling your team, and perhaps yourself. Not a thing else.

Agreed here on these two points. Healing Power has never been a good stat for any gametype thus far (WP pointed this out in a video of his) and bunkers have a really niche role. As far as the enemies getting a ‘trinity’, it doesn’t affect us. And to be honest I think the Mordrem-Trinity is very fun to fight. It promotes certain targets (menders>everything else) and creates strategies on how to take down certain enemies.

It’d be really cool to learn some of the more mysterious languages and learn more about the other cultures already present in Tyria, like the ogres, Jotun (as you said) and Largos. Of course there’s already Wiki articles on these things, but wouldn’t it be awesome to interact with them in game? A decent daily dungeon rotation?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

You should be able to do AC P1/P3, SE P1/P3, and CoF P1/P2 in under 90 minutes (none of those paths should take you over 15 minutes) and you will get over 10 gold for doing them. This is what I do for my usual rotation. I end up with a little over 10 gold than I started with, but that’s not including materials I have deposited or exotics that I threw in my bank to figure out what to do with them later. If I had to guess, my rotation is closer to 15 gold. Possibly more.

Didn’t catch your post, it flew up when I was replying. Sorry!

I’ll give that rotation a try as well. I’ve had great success with AC all paths as it’s the easiest one, so I may end up doing those first as you do.

A decent daily dungeon rotation?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Thanks for the quick reply!

From the information I gathered from your post, I’d wager this rotation:

SE P1>CoF P1>CM P1>AC P1/2

If CM doesn’t work out after a couple of days I’ll remove it and consider CoF P2, as I get that one done fairly quickly with most PUGs. I’ve not run CoE a good number of times but I can agree the reward for the paths there are pretty dang good. Cores and Lodes are always nice extra munny in the pocket. I’ll put it to use tomorrow, many thanks!

Though, I’d still like to hear other’s opinions!

A decent daily dungeon rotation?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Hi there. Search function farted on me, Google doesn’t give me anything but GW2Dungeons, so I wanted to ask here.

I’m looking for a daily dungeon rotation purely for the gold and token gain. I have a lot of time each day to play (around 5-7 hours, tops) but I’d only like to spend around 1-2 hours of that time doing dungeons. As long as I can make at least 5g a day, I’ll be happy, as my current goal is just Powerful Bloods for an ascended back item (but more gold in those two hours is always welcome!). Here are some rotations I’ve tried:

-CoF P1/2, AC P1/2/3, SE P1, and finally CM P1. That rotation took me around 3 1/2 hours with various PUGs, mileage varied greatly in terms of frustration.
-CM P1/3, SE P1, CoF P1/2, AC P1/2/3 That one took almost 4 hours with various PUGs. Wasn’t as frustrating due to AC’s easy difficulty and CM’s easy mechanics this time…

I’m currently a member of [noob], but I’m having issues getting a hold of the members for dungeon runs, so preferably the rotation should be almost exclusively with PUGs. Many thanks!

A few questions from a newb

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Hello folks, I haven’t played since the release of GW2 and back then I only made it to like level 40.

My questions:

1. How do you measure DPS in GW2? I read a lot about how people min max their class and gear but since there are no tools to provide dps statistics how do you actually know if you got better?

2. I just hit 80 with my Engi and I need some gear to start out with. I already got huntsman to 400+ and can craft myself some nice weaponry. How much gold do you think would it approximately cost to level my Leatherworking to 400?

3. I can’t decide between rolling a necro, mesmer or ele alt. My old charr warrior yearns for some love but the gameplay is a bit too monotonous for me. I also like to be some kind of “underdog” in games and tend to roll classes that are not very popular.

Thanks in advance and happy friday!

I’ll answer as best I can, and apologies if my answers are similar to other(s) (or if they’re not the right answer)!

1. A: DPS has a (sort of?) calculation. It’s also very easy to tell if you’ve gotten stronger, especially if you’re paying attention to your Hero Panel where your stats are. There are also a great number of sites out there that give decent stat information and where the current meta is standing at for your profession. As for getting ‘better’, the only way to really tell, I guess, is how many times you get downed/defeated during an encounter you had trouble with previously.

A good measure of how skilled you are is soloing dungeons, sPvP, and Fractal solo/duos. If you can solo a dungeon/Fractal, you can safely consider yourself skilled with your profession, and if you get a high rank in sPvP you can also say the same thing.

2. A: Currently, http://www.gw2crafts.net shows that a normal Leatherworking journey from 0-400 would cost around 15g. That website is also a great tool for speed guides or general guides to all crafting professions. I highly recommend you bookmark it if you plan on crafting a lot.

3. A: As for classes that aren’t very popular, I’d say Necromancer is the least popular in PvE (sPvP and WvW are a different monster). Though, honestly, all classes are played pretty equally (or maybe that’s the Megaserver talking).

I hope you enjoy the game, and I hope I and the others answered well enough!

EDIT: Here’s a tip if you didn’t know it: you can type /wiki (name of in-game stuff here) and it’ll instantly open your default browser with the GW2Wiki page on the item. Just putting that out there!

Bag/bank space should cost gold, not gems

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

so i bought this game comming from a f2p type MMO with the expectation that i would not NEED so spend RL money on it .. as in CS items .. but yet by lvl 70 i only have 5 gold … why on earth would a bought game act as a free to play game ? (and yes i get it * to make money*) but this is no excuse !!

You can make gold quite fast doing a large number of things in the game. While WvW and sPvP aren’t huge gold-makers, there’s dungeons, Fractals (to an extent), gathering, crafting, world completion (the bonuses for completing a map), random loot, world bosses, jumping puzzles…

You get it. It’s all about how smart you are with your loot. Know what to sell and what to salvage, and learn which runes are sought after and which ones are vendor trash.

For topic, though, I dunno if it’s already been said, but you can already buy gems with gold to get the slots for bags/bank.

There’s still the issue of people knowing the WvW maps, though. If they can watch the stream in LA, recognize the area the fight is taking place, and have their buddy /w them while said buddy is in WvW currently, they can shout who owns the keep. It’s also pretty obvious most of the time who’s defending and who’s attacking an objective anyway.

For sPvP, however, I don’t see an issue with the suggestion. It’d be kind of fun to peek over to watch a nice match while I’m throwing junk in the Toilet or crafting. Though, we can already do this by alt+tabbing out…

Maybe for the WvW streamy-thing, you’re only able to ‘tag’ a player from your realm to prevent spying? Might help.

(And yeah, I know this has little chance of being put in, but it’s fun to add anyway!)

Can we get a teleport to commander?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MrWubzy.3587

I don’t know if http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Teleport_to_Friend works in WvW. I ended up getting one of these, maybe I’ll try it out.

If it works, then you’d just need to drop 1000s of gold on gems to get keys and you’d be able to port your zerg around (albeit slowly) for a few days at least.

I’m guessing it won’t actually work though.

Curious to see that myself, though I believe Anet has already thought ahead and disallowed its use in WvW maps. Seeing as the OP’s idea would essentially break a part of the core WvW challenge and mechanics, I doubt this would be useable in the game mode.

A decent daily gold rotation?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I’m after a good rotation to go through daily to get some money. I was thinking maybe the smaller world bosses (SB, FE, etc.) and after that dungeon paths, or maybe reverse that. I’m not really pressed for time each day, but the faster the better. Which dungeon paths are the fastest with PUGs? I’m looking to earn as much gold as possible each day without headache (totally avoiding CoF P3, things like that) with maybe a few rares scattered in for Globs. Help, please!

Gear inspection idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Isn’t this game more about player skill than gear, though? If I can fight a boss using Knight’s gear just as easily as a guy running Zerker, doesn’t that say a lot about skill instead of gear? Granted stats do matter in the case of this game, but at its core it’s more about how well you do than what you’re wearing.

[Suggestion]Make titles more visable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

If 2.5 years after release heritage titles from GW1 still have the most prestige in the game you know something is wrong.
I still wear GWAMM title over even the 25k achievement point title.

I’m seeing a lot of people with that title more nowadays, and all I can do is applaud them for being so dang dedicated! I wish I could get it, too, but all I own is Factions. One day, though!

OT: The titles themselves, for me, are perfectly visible. I will say, though, that they sometimes get lost in large groups or behind terrain, but that’s really not an issue for me. But I do agree, that some titles could use different colors. Maybe the more esteemed titles (like GWAMM and the really high achievement titles) should get special colors, or fonts, to make them more noticeable?

[SUGESTION] We should have a use all option

I disagree, that just encourage zergs farming, what Anet really need to do is add more content that reward us with better quality instead of quantity. That would solve everything.

That’s an entirely different issue, though. And the zerg meta evolved based around how the game worked, so that’s…also an entirely different issue o.o

As for the OP, I agree 100% on this, especially since the new event is up. Lots of luck comes from those envelopes and salvages, and it’d be nice just to right click – consume all (or maybe right click – consume (amount interval), as some have suggested.

Making alts more fun!

MrWubzy.3587

Hey there! I made a suggestion post a while back about adding a hard mode for the game, and I took a couple of suggestions from posters around the forum and decided to make an alt playing with a specific set of rules. The rules are as follows:

1. No buying ANYTHING from the TP or gold merchants. I am only allowed to purchase from heart vendors. Salvage kits and gathering tools are covered by this, too.
2. Repairs on armor/weapons can only be made once per zone. If a piece of equipment breaks it is gone forever, and you must scrap it.
3. If I die I must wait a full minute before I respawn. People reviving me defeat this rule, though.
4. I must 100% complete an explorable map before I move on to a new map. This is also in effect if a personal story step is in a new map (city maps are not effected by this rule).
5. Once I ding 31, I must choose a healing skill, utilities and an elite skill. From that level until I ding 80, I must use the skills I chose, and I CANNOT change them at any time until 80.
6. If I wish to use a waypoint, I must be standing directly under a non-contested waypoint to teleport.

After I ding level 80, all hard mode rules are disengaged.

So how do you guys spice up alts? How do you make your game more challenging?

I think those who use their tomes to insta-80 a Revenant will miss out on a lot. They’d have to learn the profession’s mechanics all at once after their stack of tomes runs out, without the gradual and casual process by leveling normally. I would encourage people to just play the Revenant as normal, but hey, play how you want, not how you’re told.

Will HoT blow up my PC?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

My guess is that they’ll probably do a bit of work to allow the current specs to still handle it well. My laptop is, for all intents and purposes, “okay” by today’s standards. I can play semi-current single player games like Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3 and Skyrim on almost max, and most MMOs (GW2 included) on almost low, and that’s expected given the amount of stuff going on at once. And I fully expect my laptop to be able to handle HoT at launch with no issues, using the same graphics settings I use now.

However there’s no telling until it’s released. I don’t get much lag at all during the SW JP, but that’s just me adjusting settings when I do the puzzle itself.

[Suggestion] - Old world hang gliding

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I’ve been thinking of something along the same lines. “Updraft Points”, if you will, where you can glide from in old world maps.

Let’s take the top of the eagle statue in the Queen’s Pavilion in DR for an example. If you jump from there, and can’t gain altitude, then there’s a fairly limited range of places you can go.

Heck, they could even institute “Gliding Puzzles”. You start at Updraft Point A, and you have to reach goal platform B. Imagine trying to glide through Windrock Maze in Ascalon.

I’d say that the odds of this happening in the future depends on how popular the gliding turns out to be once the players get to try it.

If they added gliding puzzles, I’d be all over that. Who knows, maybe they will add some gliding puzzles in the new map(s)?

And people sometimes forget that it’s already possible to break out of many maps and areas with the current mechanics. Adding a glider to those areas wouldn’t really help them at all, since the current mechanics make it easy as it is now. It would just be another cool feature to play around with.

Will HoT include LS2?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

Probably not.

I do however somewhat expect Anet to give you an option to buy all of season 2 in one go for a price that is lower than what you would pay if you bought each chapter seperately.

I would definitely buy it if they released it as a bundle.

OP: I don’t think so, as Diovid said. They’re probably making a decent amount on the gem store with those who missed the releases already, so they’re not about to stop it now by including it. But, who knows, they may surprise us.

I’ve been following the Hobosack thread on the Engi forums for a while, back when I first started playing as an Engi when I got my first back skin (my guild’s backpack). It’s a little frustrating, and I’d love to see it fixed. Lots of great suggestions in the original Hobosack thread as well.

The No UI Challenge.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

No UI, naked, no trinkets, no skill points used, no trait points used, only weapon allowed is the weapon you started with at creation, no food, no boosts, no nourishment, no events, no personal story, no W3, no dungeons, no tomes/scrolls or writs. You are only allowed to get xp from killing random creatures in the world. If you get xp from an event (with exception of the opening events in the starting instance upon character creation) you lose and must delete your character. You may gather, no crafting, and you cannot run or waypoint. You must walk everywhere (toggle walk). After reaching level 80 you do a happy naked dance in Vinewrath’s lair, and that’s how you win. Eat your heart out, WoW fanboys.

That’s a bit extreme, but a pretty good challenge. I’d love to see somebody complete this!

How do you like to play Guild Wars?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MrWubzy.3587

MrWubzy.3587

I really, REALLY love to climb things. Especially things that weren’t meant to be climb-able. The first time I climbed the ruins in one of the Charr areas (I believe it was the Iron Marches, or something, the area with the ruined wall separating half the map) using nothing but my Rocket Boots and Portal Gun was exhilarating. Getting to the highest point of something in this game…the best feeling I’ve ever gotten in a game. And yes, Dry Top was a really, really awesome map just for that achievement (you know the one).

I also sometimes follow NPCs and speak to the ones I can speak to, to find out little tidbits about the area. For instance, in Beetletun (I believe that’s the area, where the entrance to CM is) there’s a NPC there who, if you speak to him, tells you that he was the one who pretty much built the manor itself, and that he is thinking of moving on to another profession, maybe writing.

Just the little things!

Gem Cards Unavailable in Stores?

They’re not in any store near me, not even in the two major towns around me. I’ve checked Wal-Mart, Gamestop, Target and Best But, and there’s nothing. It’s a shame, really, since I like to collect purchase cards (such as Steam cards) for any future reference.
