This annoys me to no end. This essentially gives mobs (but not me) a “magical first attack” called slow or cripple.

If I am slowed during combat the mobs should be slowed by my attacks as well.

In another game I played, in my favorite areas if they changed a blade of grass or placed a new fern, I noticed.

I love them. I look forward to seeing what is on them for the day. I got a big giggle out of “kill ambient animals” since in another thread I began on “Things you will never see on a Daily”, my number 1 was: Freeze 5 bunnies. Close, very close.

I was especially happy about the conditions one, since I lost my super combo daily I loved—-but since I do combos with conditions it was a win for me!

Thanks Arenanet.

I am going to assume that people complaining about rares dropping more often have:

1. Not had 5 months of bad drops like myself.
2. Do not recall chest runs in Guild Wars 1.

Seriously, the “market” for ecto was way overpriced. As often as the underworld was farmed in guild wars 1 for ecto, there should be a pile of them laying around someplace as large as the swamp.

Fishing Pole in Valslake Snowden Drifts

Nalora.7964

This has been bugging me for days. Last week, maybe Friday, I was heading across Snowden Drifts (in search of “bone shards” of all things) and on the bottom of the Valslake I found a Fishing Pole. I am one of those people who like to pick up the “found weapons” around the world to see what they do, so I picked it up. I was underwater, so, not surprisingly, it had no “skills” to it. Before I made it to the surface, however, I was attacked by a group of barracuda and lost the item, so I could not see if the item had skills outside the water (which would make sense).

Has anyone else ever found this fishing pole?

I was going to make a trek out there again to look for it, but if someone else has already found it and found out what it does I would appreciate knowing. (And a save of time to trek out to look for it again)

(btw, I have not found this item in the wiki under “Fishing Pole” or in the Environmental weapon list.)

I happened to have two tray recipes that were popular with people in wvw: Trays of Mango Pies, and Feasts of Super Veggie Pizza. I made those, then I celebrated in LA first by dropping feasts to celebrate my first ever MONTHLY reward since I began playing.

Then last night a call went out for help in WvW. (which I like to do, but is too intense for my laid back wandering soul playstyle) so I went and set out trays of mango pie and pizza at our spawn in place.

Parsley – I do not usually have an issue finding parsley, herbs in Kryta generally give me plenty.

Vanilla – I believe vanilla should also be found in bags. Specifically in thorn bags. Since vanilla is in maguuma, it would make sense to me that the Nightmare court would love the stuff, and keep it in their bags.

Chili Peppers – Used to be found readily outside of Granite Citadel in herb seedlings, which I found humorously apropos, since almost all the ingredients for a good bowl of chili were in the Charr Areas. (Flame Legion = Chili) Now herb seedlings, most of them, have been changed to blueberries. Be on the look out for Papa Smurf Charr.

Oranges: So rare now it is ridiculous. Have to find the right mob with the right bag. Could we at least have a grove of orange trees somewhere? Maybe Caledon. Lemons are over there, why not oranges.

Yams: So few nodes and you usually will run up to Haranthi only to get a carrot. I would like to see dedicated nodes to yams like there are to regular potatoes, lettuce, strawberry, etc.

I would like to see the ability to either purchase or harvest seeds and then plant them in your home instance and reap the benefits of your efforts. Not to sound too much like Farmville, but it would make it interesting, and fun. Maybe change the programming that during beta gave us dyes (where we had to turn in the seeds to a dye maker in our home instance and wait a couple days for the dyes to be made) and make this seeds for him to plant for herbs, sweet potatoes, vanilla.

Have they formed a Blueberry Legion, as is rumored?

What I have noticed in games, and I am certain that the Arenanet writers have, as well. Is that many gamers do not bother to read anything that is more than one sentence, if they even read that.

I do not know how many times, for example, I have had to say: Well what does the event tell you to do? And been asked “Where do I find that?”

Have you all not noticed that within 5 minutes of any content people come to these forums and clamor for detailed instructions on exactly how and what to do, without bothering to spend more than a modicum of effort looking around in the game or speaking to NPC’s? No, they want the 1 2 3 and A B C spelled out succinctly without a story at all so they can get it done FAST FAST FAST. Personally, I avoid the areas now on the release day and go after most have done it, so that I will not be given everything in Map chat, or led by the nose to get it done in one sitting.

I am an avid reader. I have read since I was 3 years old. I had my first library card at 5, and I have worn out entire libraries in small towns I have lived in throughout my life.

But, I have also learned that many people in this world do not read at my level, do not learn at my level, and I am certain that many people in these forums have had this happen to them as well; in school you got it in the first go round, and when the teacher repeated content for the slower members of the class you were stuck staring out a window daydreaming. If you were like me, then you were sometimes pegged as an “underachiever” or “not living up to your potential” because you did not wish to repeat something you already learned.

I have learned to be patient and wait, and ponder and daydream.

“It is when the waiting hour forces you to stop
in stillness that you wish would not return
that you say, I am the same as other men;
I must live to wake beyond the fears of hope
into an hour that does not quite arrive. . .”

Map Completion at 99%

Just found the two waypoint areas that have been reset on my 100 percent map complete.

One is the Plains of Ashford. However on the interface (the (M) and in the area where it shows the totals, it shows one waypoint missing for complete, however all waypoints show up as having been done.

Same with Brisban Wildlands. On the map interface it shows 1 missing. However none on the map show as not completed (with the filled in white portion)

These are NOT the same waypoints I had to redo after the last patch.

These areas were done by me more than 4 months ago.

I do notice in these two areas that two waypoints are contested, (do not know if this has anything to do with the bug)

In order to find the waypoint the game is not seeing as complete, I will have to revisit EVERY waypoint since they are all filled in.

WoW thats a long post Tiger. My sincere condolences and I really hope Support can/will help you.

SHORT VERSION
I’m the player that requested my guild leader to make some new ranks, so I feel really bad about this. The Idea was to theme the ranks, new member (Mortal), Standard Member (Ascended), Officers (themed ranks) and Leader (godess)

WHAT HAPPEND
Tiger Ashante.1792 the Guild founder/leader of Guardians Of Divinity [GOD] created a new rank and placed herself into the new rank without realising she had to add all permissions. By default a guild member, DancinWookie.5246, whome has not played for months is the new leader and can’t be contacted to re-enstate Tiger Ashante.1792 role as guild leader. Basically making the guild HEADLESS and if it can’t be rectified will render the guild permanently disfunctional.

FIX Request to ANET support
1. Ingame GM tool (if such a tool exists) re-enstate the guild leader; or
2. Email DancinWookie.5246 on our behalf and ask him to log in if at all possible; or
3. Request a DEV to look into fixing the issue. ( change a value in the file data base for the Guild : Guardians Of Divinity giving Tiger Anshante.1792 All Permissions.

Patch Request for Guilds UI
1. Guild Founder can-not be Kicked or Demoted by other guild leaders
2. Guild Founder/leader can not be Demote them self without Warning: “Are you sure” cheak box.
3. Default Leadership goes to Most active/Highest ranked Member
4. In game members roster “last active timer” so you can see how long ago some one in the guild last logged in.

Hey Harro thanks for your input. Great post! Yeah sorry about my long post, I’m not good at summarizing things, but lets hope the devs take note before it happens to someone else.
The funny thing is, had I discovered this flaw during beta, I would have been praised for reveling such a fundamental flaw in the guild design, instead, I feel like I’m being penalized for it.

Many of us did notice this flaw during beta, many of us reported the lack of real controls over “leadership” in the guild in beta. Many of us also wanted “last log in” and other tweaks to the Guild interface.

This never happened and you, unfortunately are the glaring example of “Never put off til tomorrow what you SHOULD do today.”

I also would like to see some drop cross my screen that is not in grey text. Heck on some of my worst days a WHITE text item makes me go: OMG something! Something!!!

I would like to not feel like I am in a dead end job, or a unpaid worker to those who are “playing the market”. When the only items in your inventory are stuff you got from low or mid level material nodes, and you finally just give up and go stand in a beautiful spot and look closely at the grass for “fun” —--something is wrong with this picture:

Secondly, let me say that the idea of Guild Events is very exciting to me, and I welcome it.

That having been said, and seeing Developers speak about “long term” commitments etc. as the reason for Level 5 (in whatever Tier, the one given was War, which of course set off a fire storm…)

I would have loved to have seen this done as an entire Tier based system, that is to say, at every Tier have something available so that smaller and less SUPER-UBER-BIG-AND-BEEFY Guilds could have some involvement, and spiffy stuff to do. Less elitist, more inclusive of all types of guilds and all level of current achievement in their own guild progress.

Say at level 1 in Architecture you get: The tiny jumping puzzle of Doom
At Level 5 Architecture you get: The big honkin’ awful, but completely worth it puzzle of Doom.

Maybe I am too romantic. When I need an attitude check from the ugliness of Orr, I go to the Shiverpeaks (usually Timberline, one of my favorite zones) or to Ebonhawke area—-my second favorite zone. In GW1 I always went and got on my “perma-pre” and just felt all new and fresh.

And you think greens are literally Masterworks?

The words are simply words the devs chose to designate their gear tiers, nothing more. People get really hung up on the word Legendary though. I wonder if we’ll have the same hubub if they named the Legendary tier the “Ultimate” tier or something. Or maybe “Golden” for the gold it requires.

Whether you think the current method is good or not is your personal opinion which I don’t care enough to discuss about.

EDIT: By the way, I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you. I just think it’s very amusing how some people get really hung up on the term “Legendary.”

This.

But I also think this is partly to blame on Anet who shouted the whole “you will feel legendary!” marketing jargon.
Some people take those things literally.

I will remind you of your nonchalant attitude about words and the English language any time you demand someone use the right gamer “acronym” or you mock someone with the words: Noob, lame, or Gay who does not use the right “gamer terminology”.

How I Would Have Done Legendaries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nalora.7964

Nalora.7964

I would have made legendary parts hidden throughout the world in difficult dungeons and solo content with stories associated with them.

When you put any combination of random parts together, you would literally get YOUR legendary. Let’s just say you combined that ludicrously long greatsword handle with a lengthy blade of dark steel and combined it with runes of something that give it this particle effect. And then you dye it. Because why not?

Now you have, for example, a long, skinny runed greatsword with an almost spear-like handle that produces lightning that you’ve chosen to dye red. It’s your legendary. You worked for it and it became a part of your story. Hell, you even named it.

This would be perfect, and more in keeping with what I imagined when I heard the first hints at Legendary weapons in the game. As it stands, I have no desire for a legendary weapon. They are fluff that says not that I played the game, and played it well, but merely that I could, given enough time and a good axe, cut down a forest.

What if there were say…20 Legendaries in game at the beginning of the game. Weapons that were TRULY Legendary.

All you grinders and farmers could still have your “Legendary” with pixelated oooh ahhh particle effects, just call them “Epic”.

Now every month IF the Legendaries had all been found 5 more were put in. Also keep in mind, they would not be easy to find, or figure out how to put together. Also, the pieces only would be tradeable, not the weapon.

You are telling me you would rather have 1 million “legendaries” so everyone could have one, then to have there be in a game something unique to strive for—-and a chance to mark the world with your name—-forever? I find that terminally sad.

Personally I admire people who have achieved greatness. I do not have to achieve that same greatness myself, I only need a chance to forge my own. This is the idea behind it.

And you believe that I was able to do something in 2002, and yet with the advanced tools, and the advanced game engine created by Arenanet they are somehow not able to duplicate this in 2013? Seems kind of limiting.

How I Would Have Done Legendaries

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nalora.7964

First the disclaimer. I have played Dungeons and Dragons tabletop since 1978. I was in college at the time, and needed something to reduce the stress of finals. The game, in 1978 was only 4 years old, and in my neck of the woods, was relatively new and unknown. After many many years of playing, and DMing many campaigns, I was thrilled when a little game called Neverwinter Nights came out and I could try my hand at building a module, and carrying on a campaign of my own making in “3D”. I ended up creating one of the most popular modules in the game: Adventures in Cormyr: Immersea.

So, this brings us to my topic. I have told many people in game how disappointed I was that Legendaries were not, in fact Legendary at all, unless you count the legendary grind it takes to make one. I then tell them about being “Legendary” in my module in NWN.

I had legends, and legendary weapons in my module, they were one of a kind. So were the players. Legendaries had LEGENDS associated with them—-Stories, Lore….and one had to find the pieces while unlocking the legend of the item, then find out how to forge them together. Once they did this, they were also legendary. (not by the item alone but because it took some campaigning to not only find the pieces, but to figure out what they were, what they went to, and how exactly, what specifics it took to put them together.) So in the end, I would then ask for a snapshot (a computer file snapshot) of their character and I would place a “stoneskin” texture on them, and an animation to make them stand perfectly still, and then place them as a statue in my module, along with a book of their deeds that had made them legendary.

This is exactly how I would have done legendaries in Guild Wars 2. I would have made them truly legendary, and the player as well.

Look at the history of the real world, and think of the many legendary people there are. Go to any town square and there is a local legend. I believe that if legendaries had been one of a kind with a story attached, and the player the new legend, then you would have a truly “living world.”

Giving a player the opportunity to not only change history in my module in NWN, but to mark it forever by his gameplay was one of the reasons my module was so popular.

Yes, I figured you probably realized I was in a foul mood today, and feeling sarcastic.

… snip …

I just want to have fun for a long time in Guild Wars 2, I guess, and more and more it looks like the party is over.

Nalora: I am seeing most of the same things that you are, but I am reacting to them differently. I don’t experience any grind in GW2. Any time I am faced with doing something I really don’t want to do, I just don’t do it. If I decide to do something because I want the outcome/reward then I do it, realizing I chose to do it.

I also don’t stress about not getting something. If I want something, but don’t want to do what it takes to get it, I decide not to go for it. If I want something and getting it faster means doing stuff I prefer not to do, I just take longer. I don’t have to have it now.

There are things about the game I do not like. I ask for change if I think it’s warranted, but I have no thought that it has to happen. If it means I avoid that part of the game, well there are a lot of things in the game I DO like to do, so no big deal.

When I decided to buy GW2, I chose not to look at it as an MMO, with the expectations that I have seen expressed about MMO’s here, there and everywhere on the internet. Instead, I looked at it as a game. I was paying $60 US for a game that I have to this point played for > 1200 hours. To me, this has been a good value, since I have paid as much for other games and played for much less time.

This is not meant to criticize your way of looking at GW2, but to suggest a different way of looking at the game that might promote your having more fun. You can say no to grind and still play and enjoy GW2. Whether you want to do that or not, good luck going forward, no matter what your choice of entertainment is.

Yea, I do this all the time. I do an attitude check, try to change my paradigm. SHIFT IT ALREADY, NALORA. (you can hear me screaming that, right, every day )

I have had to give up many things in GW2 and I guess that is what chaps my rear end some days and I get all gritchy about it all. I look at something I want to achieve, and then look at what kind of time I have to put in to achieve it and just go: Oh hail no!

Plus you feel like they hate you—-the devs just hate you and want you to quit. I know this is unreasonable. Kind of like yelling at God like Job on a really bedeviled day —-WHAT HAVE YOU GOT AGAINST ME? shakes fist at sky On those days when you look in your inventory and just see massive piles of….junk.

Funny too, because in GW1 I was always the one screaming at people to stop leaving their “junk drops” on the ground. “Would you leave gold on the ground if it were there?” I would ask. I got filthy rich from “junk” over 7 years in GW1. No drop left behind! And this too, may be part of my problem—-I am so very poor now. But, I am just starting, I remind myself.

So yea….I feel some better. Its because I am such a care bear weanie. I tend to focus more on support —-and I loved (yea I did) the combo aspect of the game and was so keen on watching this groovy synergy I would get (this is my greatest “fun” in the game) from laying down a combo field and keeping these big beefy “power” guys alive that I did not do enough damage to get the loot. (confirmed now by Colin)

Alas for the born healer in me.

As I investigated I became more and more convinced that it had to do with damage done, or some kind of “kill credit” fubar.

I am a support build. It is a sad day for those of us who are support. It is always…always about power and just muscling your way through. Forget finesse, forget tactics, forget all that.

Hooray for glass cannons. You win. Game over.

If people think GW2 is the grindiest MMO of all time, they seriously need to play FFXI for 1 year, and then Aion for 1 year.

Please note that although you did not address this specifically to me, I no where in my post said “grindiest MMO of all time”, I said it was the grindiest game I had ever played.

I went and recompleted my 100 percent map. There is some very funky math going on in the Achievement section. Someone needs remedial math.

I took screen shots in case the bug fix bugs my new achievement. And no, I did not get rewards for completing 100 percent map complete the second time.

I was being sarcastic. I have been told so many times in these forums that I must be doing something wrong, or that I am not playing the game right.

I did fine for 7+ years in Guild Wars 1. My HOM is 42/50. (I only stopped working on it because as a history buff and avid reader in RL I liked my title of “I have many leather bound books”.)

But apparently I do not play Guild Wars 2 right, and should quit. It is a pretty standard answer (said in many ways, and with many words, but in essence the same) on these forums to everything that ails you.

I kind of hoped you were being sarcastic, given your signature… but after being on these forums for so long, I’m not sure.

I’ve long grown tired of so-called “white knights” that are quick to jump at any chance to defend EVERY choice that ArenaNet has ever made.

ArenaNet has admitted they’ve made mistakes (and taken action to fix them).

I’d really just like a chance for the forums to be a reasonable place to discuss things without everyone being hand-wavey and saying “Only ArenaNet knows the real data.”

Yes, I figured you probably realized I was in a foul mood today, and feeling sarcastic.

I am not an Arenanet White Knight. I will defend them if I agree with them, but I will also criticize things that I deem of questionable value. Although in these forums it is apparent that critique is frowned upon and we must all bow to the great and wonderful powers that be that know oh so much more than we do.

Many things bother me, and I would speak out about them, but it is quite obvious to anyone that communication with the player base is not Arenanet’s strong suit. In fact I think it is not even a suit in their deck.

In any case, it has become quite apparent to me that Guild Wars 2, despite all the hoopla, is, indeed the most “grindy” game I have ever played and I have played many.

It is sad, actually to those of us who enjoy so much the art and the grandness of it all, and I try every day to keep an open mind….it has only been 5 months….it is just the beginning….but I do not hear that from them…only me. The voices in my head telling me to be patient, and they are all the more loud because Arenanet is so quiet——often silent.

And for those of us who have a comparison…can compare where we were in other games to where we are in Guild Wars 2 compared to the all-day-all-the-time grinders, farmers and others, There is a stark contrast that does not need data provided to the silent developer overlord to prove our points.

When I look at my friend’s list and see it as empty as my friends list in the last dying days of City of Heroes….then something is horribly wrong. And the silence from the developers and the platitudinous mockery of the forum-goers does nothing to appease my fear that the game I waited for 5 long years (since I got my mini-asuran in the May 2007 issue of PC Gamer and the hints of Guild Wars 2 in that issue) is not going to last long if something does not change to make it more friendly to the “casual” player.

Casual is not how many hours a day you play…it is how you play. You play to have fun, to explore, but more and more I feel forced to grind at something just so I can get into other areas to have a good look at them.

I can remember one time feeling this way in Guild Wars 1. When I first stepped out the wrong door at Beacon’s Perch, and found myself in Lornar’s Pass in less than max armor, instead of Deldrimor Bowl. Of course later I would clear this area in Hard Mode to vanquish it, fight people to Droknar’s because it was more fun than running it….

I just want to have fun for a long time in Guild Wars 2, I guess, and more and more it looks like the party is over.

In other words: “You don’t play the game right, and should quit.”

And, if this were ArenaNet’s motto… They’d be out of business by now.

They need to focus on making the game more accessible for casual players… As that was GW1’s bread-and-butter.

Having a F2P version of WoW is just asking for trouble (as it makes GW2 the same as every other F2P MMO out there).

So, about rewards. People over at mmorpg have repeated more then any meme you’ll find anywhere, that the loot and rewards for pve are perfectly fine. That somehow this RNG loot system isn’t slanting towards something negative like it has been for months for so many of us and that everything is unicorns and rainbows. Are people really so selfish that they can’t help the players that don’t get a single thing from drops by demanding they do something more constructive then just endlessly “gathering data” say like removing DR entirely from the open world?

What do you all think? Because there are those who believe this isn’t happening to those of us with the permaDR at all.

I’ve offered every player the opportunity to group with me on my hours of grinding in Orr. I have no problem helping tag many mobs and have only had many thanks from the people who I group with. For the most part I’m always solo. Most of this thread is just he said/she said. There’s only about 1 page of actual evidence from people who farm regularly. Not to say anyone’s input is invalid, but its hard to go off evidence someone collected on 1 run, or 20 minutes of grinding. I use my personal guild influence to drop banners for people as well, whether or not people believe they work or not is their own opinion. If players added less “I hate arenanet namecall namecall namecall” and more visual evidence this thread would be far more constructive.

Well, the only response I get from people is that since I can only prove it by my own drops and the fact that I have not made any more that 39 gold and I have played since launch is that I apparently “Play the game wrong.”

Ok, so I play the game wrong. I have to grind like you, (which is kind of silly since I don’t get drops….grind for…what exactly? Pixelated blood splatter and the joy of your company?) Farm —-Oh wait I can’t do that either…no drops, you can’t farm. Do Dungeons? For what? The big payment in the end? Hah.

So, I play wrong. Yea, that is the answer.

I can’t say whether you play wrong or not, that’s not my place to say anyway. But in 6 minutes at Orr events I make around 1g in mats/drops. I can say its a lot about how well you can tag mobs, the less people the better. I don’t do dungeons, I’m just not that interested in them at this point in my gaming. Two Orr events would be 12 minutes of time, dragons are just something to do for a change-up. Maw is fun and easy, lots of xp and karma. And the chest at the end doesn’t hurt either. I’d never tell anyone how to play, all I can say is find all the things in the game you enjoy. Don’t focus on one aspect or it truly will annoy you. Not everyone enjoys farming for hours like me, and that’s okay. There’s plenty of fun things to do, and for those times when you can;t find those things, well that’s where a good guild comes in.

I like to go to various areas every day. (Not Orr. It is ugly, tedious and annoying.) = Not playing the game right.

I do not like dungeons. (People are rude, mean and you have a chance of being kicked for no reason just before completion, or yelled at for the smallest infraction of some ambiguous “rule” = Not fun.) = Not playing the game right.

I do not like to “farm an area or event over and over” This feels like cheating, whether it is or not, and my internal moral compass says do not do it. = Not playing the game right.

Keep in mind in Guild Wars 1, I was Legendary Cartographer, Legendary Elite Skill Hunter, and Legendary Vanquisher. This means I saw every bit of every map in the game several times, had every skill in the game that could be had, and killed every single mob in the game on Hard mode.

But Guild Wars 2? I don’t play right, because I do not farm, I do not grind, and I do not cheat or game the system.
