I find other traits more appealing and I dislike the minor. Auto stealth gets you killed with reveal as much as it saves you, the proc is inconsistent.

Yea, I missed steal a lot (which I attribute to my own misplay and impatience). Cost a majority of my losses.
As for saying ‘r’ I’m just conditioned to going without waiting for cooldowns because it’s more realistic to what happens in games.

To put it in layman’s terms we’re both doing the same thing through different means; stealth vs terrain use.

I recorded in the first place because I know your guild likes to exaggerate things that actually happen, and kitten talk everyone who disagrees with them. I uploaded it because I thought it would be beneficial to other players.

I dueled him on no sleep because I was asked to, I did change my build which is fairly apparent in the video. I never asked him to change, it was your guild who asked me. Furthermore stacking stealth isn’t what I would consider mechanics. He loses trades and stacks stealth until he can regen. I missed steals because I was playing impatiently – which I would attribute to the sleep deprivation but I didn’t really mention it because I don’t care. You have your opinion, and I have mine. People can also form their own watching it. Have a good one ^^

I lost the first two and won 3 in a row, with full HP. The game is about learning other players as much as it is learning the class – people who are new to classes have their own strengths in unpredictability and doing things that the general population doesn’t.

I never said anything bad about Kronos, quite the opposite. Not sure why your entire guild besides Yukie and Kronos is a salt mine who cries as every little thing. I hit him in downstate when we’re both low – I don’t really care who wins it’s more to mess around. I had fun while playing those. On top of that a lot of those duels come down to RNG when both parties are low health (crits, improvisation procs, air/fire) and that goes for both sides. You saying he’s mechanically better is opinion that could be argued by anyone, I stated my opinion on it and if you don’t agree that’s fine. I respect the opinions of others even if I don’t agree with them.

As for jumping early, I waited every time bar one or two where it looked like he was going on me (used Basilisk and Black Powder). The chat is in the vod, anyone can see that.

I don’t mind if you don’t agree with me but it’s sad how you and your guild loses their mind over every little thing that rubs you the wrong way. People are different, learn to realize that and interact in a positive way – especially in a game where it doesn’t really matter who thinks or does what. Lighten up and you’ll probably find yourself in a better mood if you stop taking everything people say so personally.

Wasn’t going to post this but there’s probably a few things people can learn from it.
I was asked to duel Kronos, video is uncut start to finish and lasts just over 1 hour & 30 minutes.

Basically as the video description says:
Some D/P rust (insignificant) and sleep deprivation – duels against Kronos.
Just some personal observations from the duels;
Kronos Strengths:
-Stealth mechanics (tracking via unload [timing], stealth stacking [WvW experience])
-Intuition
-Cooldown Management

Weaknesses:
-Shortbow mechanics
-Instantly uses steal skill when acquired

My own Strengths:
-Mechanics
-Terrain use/Positioning
-Adapt well to other players
-Cooldown Management
-Intuition

Weaknesses:
-Stealth play/stacking
-Could improve time to learn player’s habits
-Impatient (generally not the case)

Overall it was good practice, and I actually learned quite a bit about the match up in regards to stealth play. Unfortunately I was too tired to realize any of this until after.

The vast amount of players playing N/A don’t want to put in the work or take it as seriously as the Abjured does. So they aren’t going to have any real competition any time soon.

This. We have practiced maybe three or four times. Abjured plays almost every day. On top of that they refuse to scrim so there’s hardly any point to play the game when your best source of improvement harbours feelings towards a certain individual and denies that. Solo queue and Team queue are a waste of time as well. Our best practice would be during the weeklies if we were able to get everyone on.

Anywho, doesn’t matter much in the grander scheme of life.

Well, Jumper X did beat you, and its all over youtube.
Everytime I get a game with Cruuk I like to rile him up and he always mentions Caed scared to 1v1 me, and that he’s the best thief NA.

I secretly want Cruuk to join GASM and GASM get some really good players and just beat the crap out of everyone.

But one thing you mentioned is what I think is why theres not much competition, and that’s because of college. I too haven’t played any games that much. Cant really tell whose the players to be watching out for right now.

From my games in past month, the only players I take note of are Thee Faux, Tron Jeremy, Tamamba Blackmorrow, Pink Puma, Kirin Xin, Max the Drnk Champ, Dolomite Jones, Raplion. I don’t like it when these guys are on the opposing team because it means I have to play really good and I normally lose to these guys so they good. If any teams are hiring I’d recommend these guys, and Eva Vermillion that person really underrated and really good.

If you had a full team of those guys, I bet they’d beat Abjured a few times out of 99 games.

But again, matchmaking, putting a couple weak links in a strong team and than having them face abjured is dumb. I wish I could see the data of the games Abjured played too, just to see who they playing against. I’ll tune in on sunday, so you guys better beat them and they better be playing. Better get rid of your weak links and get more strong link players. Theres plenty of them out there, they just be playing with a bunch of scrubs so it makes them appear to be scrubs but those I mentioned aint no scrubs.

From the perspective of a Warrior running quad swap sigils, that’s correct.

From the perspective of anything else, sigils are the thing that is causing Engi/Ele to pull away from other professions.

Swap sigils are massive components of the Cele meta, Engi, Ele, War, the best Cele professions, get way more battle power from swap sigils than the rest of the professions get from crit, or swap sigils.

If the game was less ‘sigil heavy’ these professions wouldn’t be as meta.

Sigils are the enemy if you want the Cele meta to be toned down.

Sigils are not solely responsible for Engi and Ele damage, survivability, mobility, and team support. I find it hard to believe that over the course of the past week you so adamantly defend what’s bad for the game. I don’t say that because I think those classes are blatantly overpowered either (they need slight adjustments to tone down to other classes), but because I expect more from you as a player and person in the community. You’ve been defending what makes your class broken in the eyes of many and keep trying to argue against changes that would benefit the game but harm your class/teammates classes. A lot of these suggestions are perfectly legitimate and viable solutions to the problems that are currently in the game but the solutions that you offer instead don’t actually change anything about Ele sustain (sigils don’t touch their sustain and that is a far larger issue than Ele damage) or Engi damage (nerfing battle won’t change much. Pry Bar, Jump Shot, Blunderbuss, Throw Wrench will all still hit for at least 4k crit and your sustain remains unchanged). To be frank it’s appalling reading your posts as you come to the rescue of your class and your teammate’s classes. People look up to your opinion but I can’t see you being anything but selfish at the moment.

The only reason I even bother commenting is because you’ve been doing this for the past week and it’s rather misleading for the community. Again, I expected more from you. I suppose it doesn’t matter much at this point though.

P.S. If they nerf sigils other classes will be hit harder than Ele and Engi unless they specifically target Battle/Doom/Intelligence alone. Cele Shoutbow Warrior is also far weaker of a spec than both Cele Ele and Cele Engi. The only reason it really does well currently is because it does extremely well against those classes and provides a good amount of team support. Burst counters Shoutbow with ease (something even you have with Cele Engi if you use Intelligence properly).

Oh, and “fairly” well is a subjective term that can be interpreted in different ways. I should be more precise in my language so that people don’t misinterpret the message I try to deliver through forums. I apologize for that.

Wording can be confusing when taken from two different contexts, despite similar language.

To say you can do well against an S/D thief if played well by no means translates into all mesmers do well against S/D thieves. To no means did I generalize that and the “if played properly” plays a large part of my point. I don’t think there are many, if any, good mesmers for one reason or another.

Putting the word “effective” before something doesn’t really do anything but glorify a point you’re trying to make. Damage is damage, and a mesmer does a lot more damage than most everything else, if not everything else in its entirety.

Also, statistics play to what people enjoy playing. Some people enjoy easy classes, some enjoy what certain classes over others. To say something isn’t good because it’s not easy and not many people play it isn’t an accurate statement.

I never said it was a 50/50 match up – I said it could approach that if you dropped portal. Again, you didn’t even read what I wrote before you came in here all Gung Ho for your class.

You clearly didn’t ready anything I said if you think I insinuated that mesmer did “well” against S/D thief. But I’ll lay some things out for you. It’s by no means impossible to kill a thief on a mesmer. Mesmer is also quite far from unviable. I also never said that you need to go S/F or S/T to kill a thief, it’s more than possible to do it on Staff/Greatsword as well.

Mesmer has the highest consistent damage output, and it can do everything from range. It has the second highest burst combo (second to fresh air ele), and it has one of the largest team utilities in the game. You give up potential in 1v1 situations to utilize that utility except you expect to be balanced with the notion that you can have everything.
Despite playing with a team utility you still have extremely good match ups with 7 classes if played well, a strong team fight presence, insane map mobility and yet claim that you aren’t viable because of thief. Not only can your teammates lock down a thief, the amount of burst you can hit one with is substantial enough to force them to back off – if not kill them (and more than enough for your own thief to finish them with ease).

Condition classes are easier to play because they are more forgiving, they work through applying consistent and small amounts of damage (albeit rather quickly). While there are a few key abilities to land it’s usually not a big deal if you miss some of the other stuff, the damage still adds up. Burst requires patience to land, and has a high (debatably higher or lower) payoff – but if you miss you have nothing to follow up with.

The two are not comparable, they fulfill different roles. So saying that they do similar damage is completely false.
Power classes shine so long as you land your burst – regardless of whether it’s the beginning, middle, or end of a fight.
Playing a glass cannon takes thought, patience, planning, anticipation, and quick fingers. If you have a hard time doing that don’t blame the game.

I don’t think you will see more than a 50/50 match up against s/d without doing portal – which is not realistic. Mesmer has a reliable window to land shatter on flanking strike however. It just takes patience to land burst but it’s a gauruntee with the right timing, and is enough to kill our force the thief to fully reset if you land the right abilities. For some reason people forget the busy potential of mirror images as well. Coming from a time where mesmers used to one shot everything I’m sure you can recall how mirror images adds to Mesmer burst potential.

Mesmer actually does fairly well against s/d if played properly. Furthermore mesmers pigeon hole themselves into running staff/greatsword – which is a good weaponset but provides nothing against thieves. Sword/torch and sword/focus with greatsword is a lot more well rounded, far from unviable, and has a good match up versus thief.

Don’t blame one weapon set for keeping a class out of the meta when the players of the class are too stubborn to adapt.

Not really sure why I was brought up in this, but Jumper dueled me at 3-4am when I had no sleep and he had just woken up. He asked permission to upload that because he knew I played below how I normally duel, but I really couldn’t care less about a few duels. What I’m trying to figure out is why or how this was even brought up.

I actually had several people offer to give me a legendary for that scroll text, where I offered to teach them how to play thief – but I decided to take that down because it is too hard to determine what is fair in teaching the class. What information would be new, how much time should I put in to be determined fair, what kinds of things should I do (videos, dueling, watching them play, giving information)? It’s not begging when I offer a way to pay for it, but determining what is fair payment is too difficult and subject to personal bias making it too hard to find a middle ground I would feel right about morally to take them up on the offer.

Also I’m extremely self conscious, but thanks for proving my earlier point about you being a pretentious kitten. =]

I don’t beg, I don’t need to. I’ve made plenty of my own gold and gems through tournaments and I have made that more than clear to people who donate. I ask almost everyone who has donated if they’re sure they want to and I definitely make sure they know it’s appreciated.

I don’t like the sleeve, the footprints give you away occasionally, and the weapon engulfs you in flames when you weapon swap (gives away your weapon swaps). It’s not very subtle of a weapon.

I don’t use either of my legendaries (Incinerator or Quip) but I only regret binding Quip – Incine is pretty. One of the few worth making. The only other one I really like are the trident/spear and Sunrise.

Your attempting to defend your personal opinion which is great, but I’m just looking at the pvpers body of work, most of the players on that list have won tournament or at least been extremely competitive in the tournaments.

Well if it’s based on winning tournaments and duels that’s one thing, and they should mention that in the OP rather than claiming that these are the best players in NA. It would be like announcing that the winner of your high school’s spelling bee is the best speller in the country lol.

Actually, my opinion comes from playing matches with these guys, and yesterday Magic Toker was linking his twitch after every match, win or lose. And no, I’m not a WVW hero, I pretty much only pvp in GW2. I used to exclusively play in team Q because solo Q players often seemed less skilled, but lately I’ve been venturing into solo Q as well, which is where I saw Zoose and Magic Toker yesterday. It’s also where I’ve seen a lot of these other players, too.

I never said they’re not good players, and clearly they have a very aggressive fanbase, so hats off to them…

That’s just coming from a girl who loves to pvp. On this account (my second account which was created in June of this year) I’ve won 308 matches and lost 259 in team arena, then won 156 solo q matches and lost 123. On my old account I won about 500 and lost about 450 team q matches and won 407 matches in solo q while losing 373. (My account used to be called Lindsey.2691 but was changed to BEETLEjay.2459 and then I just quit using the account entirely and started fresh on this account for personal reasons).

You guys really shouldn’t jump to harassment just because someone disagrees with you. In fact, it doesn’t actually help your cause because it shows how much of a jerk you are.

CS builds dont have a higher skill cap – against a decent engi/ele, you simply won’t win. With CS, there are some things that just you can’t do. It’s like going against a necro with a condi engi… you just can’t.
With Panic Strike, the matchup against an Engi is not “that” impossible.

If you play Critical Strikes properly you have a chance at winning a 1v1 with any other build depending on how you play the match up. The same cannot be said for Panic Strike, in fact it isn’t even close. The amount you gain from going to a Panic Strike build is negligible compared to the damage loss. You gain 1v1 potential against a very select few builds, and lose it for the majority of others, as well as minimize your team fight presence.

I’ve always been an advocate of playing what you feel is more fun, but to say Panic Strike is better comes down to a case of ignorance. It’s easier to play, yes – but in reality the situations where it’s actually more effective or efficient are minimal. I don’t really comment much about it because I couldn’t care less about what people play but I do think that spreading misinformation to the community is a bad thing. Does Panic Strike work? Yes. Is it better than Critical Strikes? Only if you don’t know how to manage initiative, condition clear, blinds, endurance, or when to pressure/kite. Overall Critical Strikes is better if you know how to play it.

In this thread: Feedback on the publicity of tournaments and my perspective on how it’s hard to follow them.

So, I love PvP. I work a full time job and don’t always get a ton of time to log in game, but every morning before I get ready for work, I jump in a few solo Q games. I enjoy learning more by reading up on the forums and searching for the best builds/strategies out there.

However, I’ve found it really hard to really follow any of the tournaments that ANet has been advertising. I don’t have the time to log into twitch and watch the entire thing and I don’t really see any summaries of what has happened or who has won anywhere. I can follow who some of the major players are from the various conversations on the forums between people that do have the time to watch this stuff, but finding out what builds are popular, who the major teams are, what strategies the players used to win all take a lot of digging through random forum QQ to find.

Maybe I’m missing out on some fan website that’s sprung up lately, but ever since IntoTheMists.com’s forums died, it’s hard to even find what builds the major players run (although props to Dante for putting up a good build list back in April). Is there anything else like this out there? Are there any good YouTube channels to follow that give summaries on the tournaments?

And for any devs reading this, is there any chance that we could get some sort of write-up on these tournaments outside of advertisements for people to join? I mean, even if you could have a pop-up in game saying that such-and-such won a tournament, similar to how Hall of Heroes is broadcasted in GW1, that would be great.

I’m not sure about the rest, I think it would be a good idea if someone could write that up (summaries of games, the strategies used, and small snips about players).

If you cancel stow correctly it does increase damage output on lightning whip. However, as you probably notice, very few people do this correctly.

I generally don’t post on forums and it’s rare to find someone I agree with about balance so I’m going to just touch on things very briefly.

1. Terrormancer: Personally my main problem with terrormancers is how much they benefit from passive procs. With the rune of nightmare (correct me if i’m wrong) they have 3 fears that proc without that player even pressing a button and I just really hate that mechanic. I’m not going into skills because again, it’s not like a necro can’t be shut down they just happen to counter a lot of what’s in the meta right now. It’s their time to shine.

I have no issue with Reaper’s Protection due to the counterplay behind it. You can dodge it, blind it, aegis it, or proc it from range. What I do have an issue with is Nightmare runes. There is no counterplay, it interrupts dodges, and there is no avoiding it. The only way I have gotten around this is Generosity sigil, and the chance of it transferring Nightmare is the chance of Nightmare multiplied by your critical strike chance and multiplied by the chance of Generosity, or .5*[Your critical strike chance]*.6

2. Cele D/D ele: Yes I do think this is OP at its core, because really any player can come on it and spam their buttons and survive, but to play it at it’s full potential is not easy (Just like any other build really). Honestly I don’t know how to fix this, y’all say the problem is that they can stack WAY to much might, but the amount of damage they do isn’t the problem for me rather the amount of survivability. My first instinct would be to just remove the cele Amulet but i’m sure this would have it’s own repercussions.

My only quarrel with D/D Ele at the moment would be the stow weapon lightning whip spam. It increases damage output and substantially increases the healing from Healing Signet. Other than that I think Ele is in a good spot.

3. Cele rifle engi: I honestly don’t think this is OP, maybe it’s because I play S/F ele but I just think this build has way to much counter play to be considered OP.

I don’t really have an issue with Cele Engineers either, they’re strong but not broken. There are several ways of getting around their damage, and while their knockback is instant it’s also a self CC and a projectile. They are susceptible to heavy burst, constant condition pressure, and CC. (Then again, what isn’t?)

4. Turret Engis: Okay, the amount of HP turrets have is really quite ridiculous and once again were on the topic of an AI mechanic being OP. The thing with turret engis though is that without there turrets they are nothing. So either leave them be at their home point and outnumber the enemy somewhere else, or fight them accordingly(knowing when to back out, not letting him heal, etc).

I feel like this is more of a solo queue issue. I don’t really think AI should do that much but it’s not unbeatable and fairly useless in team queue.

5. Hambow: Honestly the skills are way to telegraphed to be considered OP in my opinion, the only thing I really hate is waiting out 2 endure pains which can be avoided with just kiting the warrior during the duration.

I think Warriors are in a fairly good spot, albeit being eclipsed by Eles. They offer a large amount of team fight control and strong 1v1 presence.

6. Thieves: I’m getting really tired of this one haha. They take so much skill to even compete in the meta right now. I’m not going to go to far into explaining why they aren’t OP because i’m not really sure how to word it, but just because you get destroyed by one when playing your full glass staff ele, this doesn’t make them OP.

I might be biased but I think Thief is balanced. Not weak, not broken.

7. Longbow Rangers: The range… this class is really just more annoying then anything. Nothing gets close to competing with this range.

While they have the range, and I absolutely despise them, they aren’t very effective in games when focused since they don’t last longer than their signet duration.

Mesmers would actually dominate the game if Thieves weren’t around. I think it’s a necessary balance to have.

Overall I think I agree with the majority of what you’ve posted and I think it provides fairly good insight to PvP balance from a fair point of view.

Actually they do sell mining picks, wood axes, and gathering scythes at Cautrell the Traitor (the guy who sells salvage kits, aka the old amulet vendor).

The best way get things done is having friends in the right places. Known from experience.

This is how it works for various cases of college athletes. Obviously though it’s felt there is no hope for the situation being discussed. So I have no desire to press the issue.

Lying about the reasoning is an offense that would get me kicked out of my University. Don’t know where you’re from but I’m really not willing to jeopardize my entire future to play one Tournament.

You should check the office front for your school if you haven’t, teachers are one thing, but the administrators can force the teachers to schedule things around your needs if you can get them on your side.

I find it amusing that people think that I am oblivious to what my own institution allows or doesn’t allow. I am 100% unable to go, the decision is completely up to my Professor’s discretion bar a medical emergency. I have been trying to work around this for the past 1.5 months. I am unable to go – the end.

I told him the reason, gave plenty of reasons to let me go, and was still denied regardless. So no – this is not EU, we don’t get time off to play games.
