The problem here imo is that you can build yourself for movement all you want but you’ll still terrible compared to most of the classes, not to mention that traveller runes costs 10g each.

There is a trick that you can do with Tonic + Centaur runes to get swiftness.

There’s one exact object that you intend when you say Tonic?

Switfness on Centaur runes triggers when you use your heal ( which has a CD). But when you use an endless tonic, your #6 skill becomes your changing form skill ( no CD)
Use your tonic —→ use 6 to change back to your original form --→ proc swiftness without using your heal. Rince and repeat. It gives you perma swiftness.

Spam /laugh !

Uh, with GS/ sw-sw, I can tell you I deal significant dmg with a PU build. It’s not a full shatter burst, but it’s really impressive coming from a build that “sacrifices” 30 points into a defense trait.

I didn’t say that PU builds can’t deal damage. But stealth heavy PU builds won’t deal significant damage while stealthed because they run Torch. Of course, your weapon set up is able to deal damage through Phantasms but you sacrificed your most powerful stealth skill for it. You won’t exceed 15s of stealth per minute (traited Decoy, Veil, MI). Not really a stealth heavy build. Neither the maximum amount of Phantasm damage.

ANet should give PU boons to IP. Like, shatter with 1 clone provides aegis, 2 clones, aegis + protection, 3 clones, aegis + protection+ regen. Now we can talk about being OP.

Ok, ok, I’ll try PU instead ( well I already tried it, power PU builds are very good, but a bit boring to play imo. And it’s really really hard sometimes to not play it when I get farmed by armies of thieves in wvw).

PU is bad because when I kill a hambow warrior with my shatter spec, he says :" you’re pathetic with your PU build". It breaks my heart </3 ( true story, it happened last evening in hot join…)

I have a hardest time beating a PU mesmer in wvw than in spvp. I think PU is quite balanced in this mode, but with the power creep in wvw, it becomes a real problem for me.
There’s also a lack of knowledge coming from other classes regarding PU. If I destroy anyone in spvp with my shatter build, people just throw at me the “cheesy PU” excuse for their lose.

I remember the time when mesmers where feared/respected for their skills and burst dmg. I remember being a big fangirl of Osicat, Seven Mirror and Flimp. Now, all I see is people dispising us because of PU.
No more “wow”, only “cheesy” and “broken”.

It’s disheartening.

WvW’ers play to make their server win ( or guild or small group) while pve’ers play to collect their loot. Which is the worse in your opinion? A collective gameplay or a selfish one?
I see more trolling in LA than in any wvw map. You pve’ers have a lot of preconceptions about pvp’ers but you don’t really know who we are, while we know you very well because we have to spend a good amount time in pve to be able to compete in wvw ( or just craft shinies).
The “best” rage I’ve ever seen was during a Grenth’s temple run. I’ve never seen people insulting each others like that. Even in pvp. And just for a pve boss…

When I was playing Tera, zerging was aweful during nexus times. It was causing lag, massive crashes etc…

How did they fix that? They limit the amount of players able to participate with a 120 players max quest, forcing others to move to another nexus.

Here’s my idea. Limit the amount of players able to attack a keep or a tower with a quest. Quest has limited entries, let’s say 25 for a keep. If your server is attacking this keep with 40, 15 wouldn’t get any reward. No wxp, no champ chest, nothing.

At the same time, give defenders the same quest. With maybe 20 entries or less depending of siege/upgrades. Now, people have an incentive to defend.

Defenders would have to wipe attackers that take the quest, attackers would have to kill the lord. So you could get wxp from attacking AND defending.

All the extra players would have to move to another keep or tower to get any reward, same for the defenders. That would help to break the zerg imo.

Then scale the rewards with the numbers of players participating. For example, you are 25 attacking and there’s only 5 defending. You got less reward. That would help to counter night capping. Or making it less effective.

Of course, I have a hard time agains’t skilled players, especialy thieves, but I think it’s something normal. And most of all, I have a lot of fun playing my shatter build compared to any PU build.

One of the biggest mistakes people make: Linking fun and balancing to eachother. Just because you have more fun playing a build that is pretty… underpowered atm, it doesn’t mean it’s balanced. Sure you’re having fun, but that doesn’t mean it’s underpowered.
I can also run some troll roaming build and kill 1/2 guys in a 25v60 and have fun, but that’s not being usefull.

I don’t think it’s an underpowered build. It if was, I’d lose most of my fights. Of course, it’s kind of useless in a zerg vs zerg, but who cares? I’m using siege.
Mindless sieging vs mindless zerging. WvW at its best.

It’s quite effective, and super usefull. More than being a veil bot.

I 100% support new light armors in this game.
I avoid blobing in wvw because I dislike mindless hammertrain gameplay, not because my class lacks skills in large scale pvp.
And only PU roaming mesmers are a problem. But yes… a huge majority of roaming mesmers are using a lame PU build. That’s sad, but I can’t blame them for chosing an easy build over something more risky.

I play gc shatter with GS/sw-torch and I have no problem surviving in wvw.

I have just been playing my Mesmer after a long break and noticed that she has pretty much been nerfed to dust. I left after the Shattered strength and PU buff. My mes was a PTV shatter that relied on all those might stacks and shared them.

I login and shatter is hardly playable, my glamour/confusion builds are all gone, confusion is gone, healing is still mantras (yuck). All my old builds aren’t viable. It looks like PU builds are pretty much it.

I got hit by a full zerker shatter burst in WvW cause I am rusty and it just took me down to half. Sad.

I go out in WvW and it is a melee train. Warriors as far as the eye can see. I am guessing they didn’t get nerfed? They are as OP as ever.

Thieves seem to have got hit hard I haven’t been ganked once.

I guess the current meta is PU? I am running GS/Power like a noob from the first days of the game. It seems to be the only spec that can assist the melee train.

So you board warriors have been asleep at the wheel or what? How did the Mesmer get knocked down so low?

Using traveler runes + far reaching manip will give you high mobility. You can take mantra of resolve or arcane thievery to deal with conditions. Shatter build is still viable in wvw, and even more when you switch GS mastery ( if you use GS ofc ^^)to boon removal on shatter when you play in a group.

Anet tries to fix the cheese by destroying our non-cheesy builds.

Here’s the thing. I can live with vigor nerf, I can live with DE nerf, I can live with crit dmg nerf but ALL together… it’s hard to not being worried as a shatter mesmer.
It’s already hard enough to play gc shatter with the current meta, especialy in wvw and its overabundance of cheesy builds. But this is the playstyle I chose, and I have to assume my choice and not whine about dying more than with a passive PU build.

Now, I come to our forum to realize that my class will get nerfed again. And not just one time, but three times, and it will mainly affect my build ( which is not a popular or easy one).

It’s hard to not being pesimistic. I don’t want to get forced to play a passive build like the majority of mesmers do in wvw. It’s not good for me, it’s not good for the game diversity. But apparently, it’s the way ANet chose to handle their game, and whatever we say, it remains their game.

In spvp/wvw, if you run berserker, you have no defense and quite low hp. It comes with a price. High dmg for low survivability.

Say that to Warriors, Thieves, Mesmers. All have plenty of access to skils that reduce damage/make it hard to be hit and still have plenty of Zerk stats.

I think the bigger problem is, some classes and mechanics are to strong and make not needing any defensive stats on gear easy. All 3 above can do that, Go Zerker and still have plenty of defense thanks to skills, mechanics and other things.

While the adjustments ARE needed to Zerker, they also need to look at why classes CAN go full zerker on gear so easily and not have much fear – thanks to skills and mechanics that are just a bit to strong.

In this case, why not nerfing traits such as PU instead of “fixing” zerkers stats?
I need the zerker stats for my shatter build. I have 0 passive defense ( aegis/protection/regen), my iLeap combo is highly predictable and most of time broken, so I do need the burst to control my opponent, to make him/her afraid to fight me in melee.
With the zerker “fix” (nerf), we would see more and more PU builds. Which means more and more passive gameplay. And people are already complaining a lot about PU builds. Never about gc shatter though…

I can’t talk for warrior and thieves, I don’t play these classes.

I only do sPvP when WvW becomes too zergy. I generaly do a couple of maps then I go back to wvw or just log off.
I’m surprised by people who say spvp is full of jerks and childish players. I very rarely run into detestable players, while I can read trolls and hatefull comments everyday in LA mapchat.

I’m not into spvp modes much though. I enjoy open world pvp a lot more than classic pvp modes. If I could level faster with pvp rather than pve, I’d spend my whole time in spvp. Unfortunatly, even with the new tomes, it’s still faster to level in pve with personnal story, exploration, dailies, gathering and of course crafting.

OP’ if you like the blackwater build, may I suggest you a PU phantasm build? It will be more effective than any condi build in pve, and it works really well in wvw too.

Back on topic, there’s no “best” wvw class. It’s all about good players vs average/bad ones.

PU builds are definitly easier to use than shatter or non meta builds.
I’ve been using PU condi then hybrid for a couple of weeks before returning to gc shatter. It’s been nice, easier for 1v1 but I found myself quite useless in group fights.

Mesmer is definitly not an easy profession tho. Of course, if you’re fighting noobies with a PU build, you will roll them. But it’s the same with a shatter build. And it’s a lot faster.

Fun start when you fight good players.

Latest Vash’s video is my favorite so far. Fast, brutal, no PU build, he made me fall in love again with greatsword and shatter.

I like all the old Seven/Osi/Flimp videos too, I can’t chose which one is the best tho.
