Explore the game world. If you get stuck somewhere ask in map chat, for help or what you should do. People are usually helpful in GW2. Try all the professions until you find something that works for you. Check the guild recruitment forum to see if there is a guild that interests you. You can make pretty good income by harvesting copper and logs to sell at the trading post. At low levels it is usually a good idea to use 4 power runes and a sigil of bloodlust.

Every class can give boons. Also, every class has fields and finishers that can give boons. Eles are my favorite for group play, we have fire fields and blast finishers for might stacking which means we are usually in demand.

Wvw seems to always be in need for portal mesmers, especially those who can stay hidden for long periods of time. As an ele in wvw I sometimes feel like a suicide bomber. Its still fun though.

Go with the engie. Shield skills are ok and you still get kits.

I think its set to 3 or 4 minutes after capture. Then you can claim it. It has been a while since I did it though. Its the same for renewing a claim after recapping it. maybe at the end of RI

For the keyboard, I think the most important thing is that you can tell what key it is by touching it. My keys had no texture at all so I put a piece of tape on the W so I can find it without looking.

I have a logitec g600 mouse. I like it, but I can only use the front 6 thumb buttons. I think it was designed for smaller thumbs. The g-shift button on the mouse is really helpful. Is it needed? No, I had a lot of good times in wvw before I got it. It is better with it though.

Hardseeker has certain sexual connotations to it. It might be fine but there is always a chance that someone will report it and that support will agree and force a name change.

I get it, I just think its too big a leap from hardseeker to hardwienerseeker. The way its being used suggests to me aggressive tracker. However, the game is full of over sensitive twits, so you might be right.

Nothing to be concerned about, just an aspect of the game you have not discovered yet. They are playing for keys.

Every time a character has a birthday, it gets a mini and we get minis during the celestial new year. So there are lots and lots of mini’s out there. If you don’t see any being sold, then you should ask in map chat if anyone has unded mini’s they could sell you. In cities, use the p button to see what is already offered. Kamadan is the default city for trading stuff, and it is usually still pretty well populated. Great Temple of Balthazar might also be a good place to check, although it was almost empty a few minutes ago.

Be prepared for high prices.

The game could use some refinement. I’ve received the blitz reward while working the gauntlet a few times. So its pretty clear it could use some way to distinguish active participants from people who happen to be near the event.

AFK’ers are a problem that has plagued Anet for a long time. I hope they can figure out a solution.

If you check your in-game email, you may find one titled “Please join me in welcoming the zephyrites back to lions arch”. Click on the “show me” button and it will show you on the map where to go.

I have been playing for a year and a half, got my first key from a mob yesterday on the way to the wolf chest(which I also farm). I was so exited i announced it in mapchat. I farm keys and I buy them with gems.

Key farming is a nice relaxing way to play the game when you don’t feel like doing anything intense. I seriously doubt we are messing up the economy IRL or in game.

It is an extremely rare and apparently extremely desirable item, resulting in an extremely high price. No reason to think its something else. Compared to the price of an undedicated Gwen doll, it seems almost cheap.

Use the trading post to buy a minor rune of fire, Hoelbrak, ogre and strength which will give you an additional 40 power which should be enough to make things a lot easier.

If you ask in map chat for help, you will probably get some volunteers. People are usually pretty nice in GW2.

The female norn/human light “named armor” leggings have great looking pants underneath the skirt but you only get to see them when swimming. The art has been done, should be easy to set it up as new stand alone pants.

There seem to be very few choices for climate appropriate medium armor. Kryta is subtropical and I’m running around in a trench coat. Since the protection is magical anyway, how about a true battle bikini for the females, and for males, magical baggies and a surfboard… and slaps for footwear.

Heavies of both genders could use some non-spikey armor, and some shirtless options for the males at least.

Lights already have variety from mardi gras parade to church mouse.

Work on map completion for a while, to level up. For example, Grove→Caledon→Divinity Reach→Queensdale→ Heolbrak…etc.

Yarr! GoM EB is a great place to be a puggie.

Harvesting resource nodes also gives a good bit of experience and you can sell copper and logs on the trading post for better prices than at the merchant. At some merchants you can buy food which will also give you +10% experience from kills. When you start crafting you can get a lot of levels that way.

I am using a mixture of valkyrie and rampager exotic armor with a full set of pirate runes in wvw. I got the pirate runes because they were cheap and I kept them because I like how they work. The tropical bird is a killer. My build is a “written in stone” signet build, which I use because I am too often alone. Check youtube and google for builds.

For gold, hit resource nodes as you pass them and sell the materials on the trading post, salvage stuff you don’t intend to use and sell on trading post. Do the world bosses to get ectos, at least the SB and frozen maw.

Don’t let the worry over getting killed stop you from playing aggressively. Destroying siege is one of your primary rolls and often feels like suicide bombing.

If you do crafting, tailoring and artificing are good for ele’s. Using found and salvaged mats, you can sell things on the trading post for pretty decent gold.

Ascended items are dropping in wvw now. I got a druids ring yesterday. Daily’s and monthlys are easy to get in wvw so you will be collecting laurels you can use to get your ascended items.

The leaderboards might give you a general idea of how a server is doing, mostly in terms of coverage though nobody wants to admit it. Servers change over time from transfers and new players so I wouldn’t put too much importance to the standings.

If you want a new server I recommend any bronze league NA server plus IoJ and NSP. At the low end, we have lots of really great fights and few queues. New players are always given a friendly welcome at GoM, and I’m sure also at the others I mentioned.

Well dr had most of its remaining guilds decide to disband transfer or quit completely. Right now it looks like last one out the door remember turn out the lights. Oh and pve content came out so what very little population the server has left is doing that. Still considered high population though thanks anet.

Since you are new to the game, grinding champs in Queensdale would be a terrible way to level up. Work on your combat skills, like movement, dodging, attunment switching, and setting up combos.

When you finish QD you can use the asura gate in Divinity reach to go to lions arch. From there you can gate travel to all the starter areas.

As a low level thief, you should concentrate on learning how to get a position advantage over your enemy as you fight. Use the strafe keys and mouse to try to be behind the mobs as much as possible. Default strafe keys are Q and E. I changed mine to A and D which has helped me. Use all the weapon sets available so you can unlock your weapon skills. I wouldn’t worry too much about builds until you are about level 60. It will all be more clear to you as you get experience. When you finish the starter area for your race, you can go to the other racial starter areas through asura gates at lions arch. It’s a good way to level up with less stress. A thief is better off avoiding damage than they are at taking it. Periodically update your armor and weapons and use food to buff your stats.

Gate of Madness is famous for its widespread tolerance. Lowbies, newbies, kooky builds, loners, skritt, all have their place here.

With Wintersday starting tomorrow, I predict the skritt migration to be the stuff of legend, for all three of our servers. So, how can we celebrate in WvW and keep it fun?

I just watched a few of WoodenPotatoes videos about lore in the Guild Wars universe and I find it to be very creative and original in alot of places, my only gripe tho is that alot of the lore and stuff is in GW1. I do own GW1 factions but have never played it due to me buying it along time ago and never really got into the game. I was wondering if it’s possible to solo GW1 and all the expansions so I can learn the lore and maybe get some hall of monument rewards aswell? Or is it totally party dependant?

There are usually people in the capital cities(Kaineng center, ShingJae Monastery, maybe even Cavalon and House zu Heltzer) if not the smaller outposts. Ask for help in chat and you may still find someone to form a party with you. There will also be people at Embark beach and Great temple of Balthazar. Zaishen mission days will see a lot of people in the relevant outpost, but most of them will want to do hard mode. Ask anyway and you might find someone to help you. I did all the factions missions except one with heros and henchmen.

You will need Eye of the North for HoM rewards. Also you can get heros
through EotN.

Hi, I am still new to the game and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for my ele. The main way I have been leveling has been running the champion train in Queensdale and this has become kind of dull. Any advice for leveling an ele or leveling in general would be much apprecated

Upgrade your armor when you can, at least every 10 levels. You can usually keep up just from drops. Eat food to get extra xp from kills and get whatever buff the food comes with. Remember, you can usually survive a bad fight by running away. Most mobs lose aggro very quickly. Running away will not work as well in WvW. When you hit level 30 give wvw a try.

Maybe winged headgear would look good with the right colors. Icelord diadem might be a possibility if you have at least 24 HoM points.

Wintersday hats were very popular in Guild Wars, I’m surprised Anet didn’t continue the tradition.

So this is the first mmorpg ive played in my entire life. Ive played many rpgs like The Elder Scrolls series, Diablo and Path of Exile, but never anything like this. Im a level 16 elementalist norn and I keep getting owned. It takes me forever to complete an objective because I keep dying, Im really in over my head here and am feeling overwhelmed. Try different weapon sets until you find one that feels good to you. Watch some videos on youtube: SamboNZ (dies a lot), Wooden Potatoes ( lots of good high level ele videos)… Don’t let dying get you down. Ele’s don’t really show their potential until they hit about level 30, so I recommend you stay with it until you get to at least level 30. Since you are a norn, I recommend wolf form as your first elite skill. It saved me many many times as I was leveling up. If you need help in the game, ask in map chat. There will usually be someone around who is willing to help.

You could also look for an active Australian guild to join. Then go to their server.

Obviously I like GW2, or I would not spend so much time playing it, but some things I would like:

1. majesty’s rest, with Rotscale’s perch as it was in GW1 unchanged in esthetics, intact, not destroyed, including Rotscale and his minions. it has only been 250 years something should still be in good shape.

2. I’d like my guardian to hover and sprout wings every time he uses a shout. It could be a gadget they sell in the gem store.

3. the sexy “uh-huh” woman’s voice should be restored to the Divinity’s Reach sound effects.

4. some means for GvG competition

5. more light armor options for female toons, that look like something a woman might actually wear. Norn female mesmer, and obsidian female mesmer from GW1 come to mind.

First, go to a supply camp owned by your server and pick up supply. Then find a commander if there is one. It might be good to buy a few flame ram blueprints from the trading post in case your group needs one.

Get used to the idea of being stomped. It happens to the best from time to time.

You can use the bank to store up extra stacks of candy corn. Just move the full stack to the bank, and new candy corn will deposit as collectables as it did before. When you get 4 stacks you can convert them to something else at the candy corn vendors in LA.

Myself i’ve only started 2-3 weeks ago. I levelled up a ranger so far but struggling in dungeons finding a supportive group to take noobs. Im finding ranger hard in dungeons because of the close proximity and relatively low dps (but constant).

There’s a little bit of catch-22 once you reach 80. Need better gears which seems to be from dungeons, but cant do dungeons because I lack experience / tactics.

I’m now exploring the rest of the map and trying the champ runs but most of the drops are green/blue, rare occasional yellows.

I’m also trying out a guardian, warrior and have a elementalist at lvl 30.

For dungeon groups, use the LFG tool to make your own group. specify that you are new and looking for other new players or casuals.

You can get better gear by doing the SB, fire ele, and jungle worm.

The campaigns are Prophesies, Factions and Nightfall. Each can function as the game by itself. The expansion is Eye of the North. The GW trilogy is probably the best buy.

Do not buy used guild wars. It will be worthless.

You will need at least one campaign and EoTN to get HoM points. I think it would be best to get all 3 campaigns. GW1 is a huge game. In my opinion, worth every penny I spent on it. You will need to link your GW1 and GW2 accounts.

A few months ago, AR lost some big wvw guilds followed by others when the leagues were announced. Someone on AR could tell you more about it than I could. Since then, AR has been outnumbered in most maps most of the time. The people who stayed on AR have been trying to recruit new players to help get them back to where they were.

1. Choose a race and gender that you like to look at from behind. Otherwise, it doesn’t make much difference. The norn have snowleopard form which is in my opinion the best of the racial elites skills.

2. All classes have self heals, dps etc., but some are better than others. Ele’s and guardians do really well as healing support, but I think it only really matters in wvw. All classes do well in pve.

3. If there is any effect from charm, ferocity or dignity, I have not noticed it.

4. They all do damage. If the enemy stands still for it then warriors do a little more with 100 blades. I don’t know if it is a significant difference though.

I recommend playing all the classes, at least until you find some that appeal to you. I play a staff ele in wvw that is a lot of fun, but on that toon I only have 17% map completion because I prefer guardian for pve.

Find a good guild that does the things you enjoy. Don’t be shy about asking for help with something in game.

Now is a good time for you to get into wvw if that interests you, because AR is rebuilding. Ask in Lions Arch if there are any wvw guilds that would show you the ropes if you are interested.
