Just get better gear, that’s it. If you don’t want to then its your fault for choosing to be at a disadvantage. A lot of people in WvW spend a lot of money on this game. The vast majority like how things are now. You’re probably the only one who would want it to become as boring and limiting as spvp. Anet would lose lots of money if they changed it because most of us wouldn’t want to play anymore if it became like that.
I don’t know why i’m even bothering trying to explain to you why this is a terrible idea. SpvP is extremely limiting and makes a lot of builds impossible to create. That’s why we don’t like spvp. We have that option in WvW. That’s the fun of it for most of us. We can take the gear we worked hard to acquire and face off against other people. You are just lazy. That’s all there is to it. And if you’re skilled enough, gear won’t make that much of a difference. I have a couple characters still in rares that can take people down in full exotics no problem. the same difference in stats between exotic and ascended. Don’t want to grind for new stuff, then don’t. You may have a minor disadvantage in stats but so what? Things don’t need to be even. That’s the fun of it. That’s why spvp is boring to me. Everything is handed to you right from the start, nothing to work for. If you want mommy to hold your hand through the game for you fine, play spvp. Don’t take the fun out of wvw for those of us who like the way it is now.
I don’t think Guardian needs a nerf. It’s actually the most balanced class there is. Its just decent at everything. I think all other classes should be brought up to guardian’s level of effectiveness. As much as I hate thieves, yes even thieves. They need something useful besides just the stealth and gank unsuspecting people thing cuz it’s getting old. Thief has a lot of potential good builds and a few niche builds that only work situationaly that need to be looked at. Their traits need to be reworked completely and stealth should be made into a sort of panic button move and not tied into so many weapons, which is the reason why thief is helpless without it. Stealth should be a defensive OPTION, not a necessity.
You’re obviously new to WvW if that’s what you think. Warriors are far from useless there. And it wasn’t meant to be noob friendly. That’s what spvp is for. It’s pvp with training wheels for those who can’t handle things being uneven when they have to go up against people who actually come up with unique builds that are impossible to replicate in spvp. You WoW generation kids want everything spoonfed to you and someone to hold your hand through everything don’t you? Just suck it up and grind for better gear. If you can’t stomach doing that, then wvw just isn’t for you. Stick to your beloved spvp which the rest of us find utterly boring and limiting.
This has been a fun match up so far. Encountered a lot of good roaming groups from both Mag And CD. It’s been really great so far compared to last week which was a zergfest. If things keep going this way I wouldn’t mind fighting both of your servers again next week.

haha. DAOC. you can usually find 3 of us wandering around. there’s only 3 or 4 in the guild total I think. We’ll sometimes let 1 or 2 more tag along with us since we have a lot of friends in other guilds who like to roam without a huge crowd. We only join up with the rest of the people when major stuff like taking/defending SM is happening since who in their right mind would pass up all that WXP? we’ll also jump in tower captures if we happen to be walking by when it happens but generally try to avoid most of our people.

You must be playing guardian wrong if you think it’s not as survivable. I can easily take on WAY more people at once than I would ever dream of trying to tackle with my ele. all it takes is 1 good cc ability while an ele is out of water attunement and they’re done for. They can’t move, they die very easily. With my guardian I’ve literally stood there and /danced while 3 people pounded on me then ran away, albeit slowly, made it safely back into the tower and laughed at them.
wvw would be boring when everyone is on an equal footing gear wise?
I honestly don’t understand the argument tbh I play wvw to pvp on a larger scale than in spvp not to err look at my gear in a field or something
like I mentioned in my other post that was removed yes it limits some combinations but there are very few optimal builds that even use mix and match apart from ele that I can think of
and yes I’m sick of grind after levelling 4 alts to 80 and grinding the tokens and gold to equip them, especially since I was brought into this game on the premise that it wouldn’t be like that at all
The whole point in getting new gear for me is to test it out in WvW against other people. Using different combinations of gear is fun to me. There would be no point in getting new gear that comes out if I can’t use it in WvW since PvE is easy enough to do naked. In short, there would be nothing left for me to do and no point to continue playing at all. Spvp is extremely limiting in gear combinations. some of us don’t want to play the same cookie cutter builds as everyone and like coming up with our own combinations of things. Don’t ruin that for us. And if you don’t want to grind for new gear, that’s your choice. You’re choosing to be at a disadvantage. That’s your problem. Why should the people who do want to do that be punished for your laziness?

If you want spvp, then play spvp. Don’t make WvW as boring and limited as it is too. NO! A thousand times no. If they change it most of us will have no reason to play this game anymore. The majority of WvW players hate spvp which is why we play WvW and not spvp. The limited way you can customize yourself in spvp makes it boring. If you like that, fine, then just play spvp. Don’t try to ruin what other people enjoy just because you’re too lazy to gear yourself up. That’s basically what your post is saying. “I can’t be bothered to grind for gear like everyone else so please take it away from everyone who does want to do that so I can be equal to them”

Maybe because the ones who did it aren’t complaining anymore? And the only problem against thieves is that you do NOT know how they work, how they can reach perma stealth, or boon stripping or high damage or great mobility or anything else.
Yes, thieves can do a lot of things, but they cannot do all of them with a single build, without side effects.
Playing a thief will open up your mind and you’ll be able to recognize which kind thief you are facing at the very first glance and react in the proper way.

I do have a thief myself actually. Was the 2nd character I leveled up. It’s currently my bank mule/crafting monkey parked in Rata Sum almost permanently because the class is so boring to me to play as. It’s easy mode in WvW.

It’s situational just like the boon removal sigils that barely anyone uses. And you’re keeping yourself from using a more useful sigil by having something like that just to deal with thieves. But I for one wouldn’t mind keeping an extra weapon with one of those in my inventory for when I come across a trolling thief who just wont go away and keeps coming back and being a nuisance.
There is already an item that causes 100% chance to cause reveal. It’s caused stealth disruptor trap. Use it and enjoy it. Stop the QQ.
those are not reliable and in the 4 seconds it takes to set it the thief will either run away or stab you causing you to waste the supplies and the trap not to be set. And any thief with half a brain wont step on it. If they step on it while not stealthed, it still triggers but doesn’t cause revealed. I’m definitely up for that again. And sorry to anyone who was trying to duel me when I wasn’t paying attention. I literally fell asleep on my keyboard a few times. going 24 hours straight with no sleep then coming home and playing this will do that to you. After I nodded out a few times I noticed a few people standing in front of me then waving to me. I only got to fight a few of you though unfortunately. Heh, atleast I didn’t pass out while fighting.

It’s funny how whenever anyone brings up a valid point about how Op thieves are the same response is always L2P. Thieves can steal boons off of classes tat spam boons as a means of countering them. THERE IS NO WAY FOR OTHER CLASSES TO REMOVE STEALTH! that was my whole point in saying that. No other class has any active counters for stealth. That is a fact that you can’t deny.
I honestly don’t understand the complaint. While I do find stealth to be powerful, it doesn’t elevate the Thief class above Rangers, Elementalists, Guardians, or Mesmers in overall roaming power as I consider each to be equally powerful.
I honestly have no problem with perma stealth in this game or any other as most games with a stealthing class actually do have perma stealth. Now clearly in this game it’s one of those things that probably wasn’t planned, but my only complaint with perma stealth the way it’s implemented in this game is really the fact that it doesn’t trade off any real damage for all the added utility perma stealth provides.
Earlier in the thread I half-heatedly mentioned replacing the leap finisher as that’s the lazy man’s choice to resolve this issue. The root of the problem is very clearly the iniatitive regen system in this game though.
But I’m concerned that a lot of people who argue for nerfing things like weapon synergy for a class simply aren’t experienced enough with the class to fully comprehend just how far reaching their changes could end up being.
Initiative regen needs to be fixed, but I’m not stupid enough to think they can do it without dramatic improvements elsewhere. It’s the same with adjusting just the stealth aspect of the class. This class is not built very well and stealth is so powerful that it hides the legitimate issues with this class.
To nerf one would need enormous buffs in other areas.
I doubt Anet would go through all the trouble of actually trying to balance things. they just nerf things in an attempt to balance things and end up destroying many builds in the process without tackling the core problem. Just look at elementalist. They wanted to bring down the bunker build but nerfed the wrong things that other lesser niche builds depended on just for survival making them completely ususable now. Which had the exact opposite effect they wanted and caused even more people to go to bunker build because they annihilated some of the lesser used glassy builds by utterly destroying what little survivability they had, while not buffing anything in return. So instead of making other builds viable, they just weakened the whole class overall and made even less builds viable than there were before. So I wouldn’t hold out too much hope on them trying to balance thief. they have no clue what they’re doing.

Fortunately I managed to find a few people who do like to do 1 vs 1 and are actually good. So I guess it’s not all of DB. some of you actually do like challenging fights and don’t want to just run mindlessly with the zerg and spam 1 against small groups of people.
By the way, whoever that engineer was from DB from the guild TG that I fought with my warrior was freaking amazing. One of the best engineers I’ve ever faced. Long freaking fight, but fun.
If you could force people through the gate i’d spend more time in LA than I do now. I’d try to gate people off the highest point possible and kill them. However, that might actually be good as an offensive skill instead. Rather than teleport you and nearby allies, why not have something that teleports enemies? Drop an AoE circle on them, they become tagged by it for a set amount of time, run away, release the gate and it warps them somewhere. That would be great in WvW. As long as being tagged by a gate doesn’t count as a condition. If it did then thieves could stealth and cure it. Would be great for getting rid of annoying people who wont leave you alone. Tag them, then target right over the edge of a cliff and drop them to their doom.
Glad it’s not just me having these experiences with DB. On the rare occasions you can catch a few of them alone, they run to the nearest camp/tower/whatever and wait for their 80 man zerg to show up and save them. I usually roam around alone or with a group of 3 or 4 other people max trying to look for decent fights. We usually run into groups of 10 or so DB people roaming and try to fight them. EVERY SINGLE TIME, they run away from us and try to head to siege or guards and without fail, moments later a huge red blob comes to their rescue and we all get swarmed and then they laugh and dance. Is there anyone on DB who isn’t a total coward and is willing to actually fight without an army, and siege, and guards backing them up? I have yet to find any.
I still don’t get why people keep saying warriors cant sustain. I’ve been playing a successful shout heal bunker build and it takes like 10 guys to drop me

warriors sustain is bad in spvp and tpvp and your build is probably utter garbage in the heart of the mist
wvwvw balance is completely different because of stat allocation and overpowered food buffs
I’ve said many times on various different threads how much I despise that lame esport wannabe that is spvp. I’m speaking purely of wvw. I’m aware that things are way different in spvp. Warriors and thieves suck there, but are gods in wvw. Rangers and eles were powerful in spvp, but are now utter garbage in wvw. Necros, guardians, engineers, and mesmers seem to do fine in both oddly enough. I mainly hate spvp because I like using odd stat combinations in builds no one else uses. I’m very limited in what I can do in spvp. Don’t have as much creative freedom there.
^Such utter BS. Thieves are quite capable in a group. I won’t go in to discussing all the things a thief can offer to a group, as it’s been regurgitated ad nauseum every time this thread or something similar pops up. Thieves always trying to defend their absolute brokenness by spreading the myth that they’re useless in groups. Stop being fracking selfish then and speccing only for trolling permastealth roaming builds and spec to actually support.

I was having a lot of fun using a scepter build with 0/30/10/20/10, but I just miss the support that i’m able to offer with the regular d/d build. Aurashare is still fun despite being bugged and not giving auras to people around me sometimes unless they’re right up my buttcrack. It still sucks they nerfed bountiful power especially considering the fact necros can corrupt boons, thieves can rip them off of us, and warriors have a trait in their defensive line that gives 3% damage against people for how many boons they have on them. The nerf hardly seems fair at all because of that. I’m hoping they realize how stupid that change was and revert it along with the ride the lightning and mist form nerf.

^that coming from someone on DB, the zergiest zerg that ever zerged in the history of zerging, is laughable. You guys run away constantly unless you outnumber anyone 3 to 1 and have siege or guards to back you up. The rare occasions we can get any of you away from the giant red blob, you get curbstomped in seconds because few of you know how to dodge, or fight 1 on 1 in general.
I personably don’t have a problem with Mag. Actually met a really awesome ranger from there and me and a few friends had some good 1 on 1 duels with him. he eventually transferred to Yak’s Bend and we have a 4 man crew we run around with destroying groups of people now.
I’m almost always on EBG. Rarely ever on any of the other maps unless someone pops over requesting backup. I just like the map more for some reason. Probably because it was the first map I ever fought on when I first started playing this game and always see the same people there. I rarely recognize anyone when I hang on the other maps.
Well that makes more sense. I’m actually using a 0/30/10/20/10 build myself. With a mixture of knight’s, soldier’s, and cavalier gear, and a zerker scepter I managed to get a little under 3k armor, 40% crit chance before food/fury, and 93% crit damage. stats will probably be better once I get ascended versions of the gear. Most people melt pretty easily seeing as the majority of people in wvw are clueless noobs who can’t dodge and are all pure glass.
All of our burst skills need buffs, except the one for 1 handed sword. That’s the only decent one IMO. They’re supposed to be finishing moves. But they’re kind of pathetic.
A hell of a lot better than our current crappy GS move. I’d also add “knocks back/down all foes within 300 radius around you”

obviously some things have changes since then since our traits are different now. and you have to be careful of when you swap weapons because of the sigils. I just counted down in my head keeping track of the internal cooldowns.
try it out. it has good dps and sustainability. It’s somewhere in the middle, but still missing something. I really do like the idea of us stealing life with a signet though. If anyone here has played Diablo 2 before, do you remember zeal paladin and how amazing it was with just a simple lifesteal weapon? all you really needed was a 3-5% lifesteal on hit and you’d never die if you geared yourself correctly. I’m hoping warrior can someday be like that. only a few simple changes would be needed that would make us really good without being stupidly overpowered. Change cleansing ire so it removes conditions as we gain adrenaline rather than as we spend it, and change healing signet so it steals life per hit. Also one more change I want to make is our burst abilities. Most of them suck and aren’t worth using. They should be massive attacks that are sort of like finishing moves. they’re just a waste to use them. The single handed sword one is good, but sword itself isn’t that great, which sucks cuz I love dual wielding swords. I just wish they were better.

But, no class can deal high damage and sustain itself, except for the super broken thief. They can be as glassy as they want and do 10k damage per backstab and always get away and heal to full while curing every condition on them. Everyone else either has bunker for survivability, or damage with little sustain. We do have a lot of problems. I’d like to be able to kill people faster sure. cleric’s gear sucks for damage, and speccing into our survivability traits offers amazing sustainability, but again little damage. I have little faith in Anet though to balance things correctly though. They’ve already screwed up every other class I play as. I’m still kitten ed about the frenzy nerf. Atleast warrior can still do SOME things right now. I’d like it if we stole life when we attacked. Why the hell does thief have something that can do that but we don’t? its not like they need it with their ridiculous regen while stealthed. Weren’t they supposed to fix healing signet? it still sucks. the regen is blah. Just ditch it and give us a signet that steals life with every hit. Cleansing ire sucks too. it should remove conditions as we gain adrenaline, not as we spend it.

You are mistaken. It should, but it doesn’t. If it gets blocked by aegis or anything else, or dodged, it goes on the full 40 sec cooldown. So it might as well not even have that second part where it goes on 20 secs if it hits. You aren’t hitting anything unless they are afk or total noobs. Just consider it 40 seconds.
^Well, I don’t know whether to feel better or worse about that. It really wouldn’t surprise me if they actually were just that clueless. It would explain a lot of the asinine changes they’ve made. It feels like they just have a big wheel that they spin and then throw darts at to pick out changes to make when it comes to class balances. We just happen to keep getting an unlucky dart I suppose.
Wish I could have 80 trait points too. I wonder if they’ll ever raise the level cap and give us more traits to work with.

I detest sPvP. To me, fighting to stand in a little box longer than the other guy is boring. I’d rather run around a whole world and kill people. WvW is 1000 times better, but only gets a fraction of the attention that failed Esport gets. Yet they continuously ruin several builds for several professions for the sake of “balance” in that crappy mode that I don’t even bother with. I probably wouldn’t hate it so much if they stopped letting things that happen in spvp affect things in PvE and WvW.
The ranger forum has a funny post where these 5 guys made an all ranger team for giggles. Some other guys which are suppose to be some upper tier spvp team streams a 2 hour session. In the session they end up fighting the ranger giggle team and lose. They complain that shortbow is to powerful, spirit rangers are op, and BM rangers are bs. The team ends up quitting for the night. You can clearly see how frustrated the guy that recorded the session is. These are the people affecting balance. Poor rangers are going to get nerfed again.
I seriously feel bad for rangers. If anything they need to be buffed. I had a ranger awhile ago, but deleted him after they nerfed pets. The pets were honestly the only redeeming quality about the class for me. In WvW I always target the ranger or the ele first as those are the 2 currently weakest classes in WvW and guaranteed kills unless they’re smart enough to run away. Necros are a pain, but I can’t fairly comment on them as I’ve never played a necro so I have no idea if they’re really OP or not. Most of the people I know say they’re still underpowered and just have a few hard hitting things but are still a trashy class. Thieves are still ridiculously OP as ever and mine will remain as my bank mule until they rework the whole class. And i’m sorry now that I wasted so much time on my ele and spent so much cash on her as it’s complete garbage now after all the nerfs. Guardian is currently the best class IMO, but I know with Anet’s track record it’s only a matter of time before they F that up too. Warrior I mainly use for PvE stuff and trolling noobs in WvW who are too dumb to dodge. And I just can’t get into Mesmer, the clones and all the stupid little butterflies annoy me.

It would actually make more sense if you were invulnerable while doing it, then and only then would I accept a 40 sec cooldown for it. I mean, you turn into lightning. A freaking ball of plasma. You SHOULD be invulnerable while doing it. That would actually make me more inclined to use it as a gap closer to initiate a fight and charge into my enemies.

I do crap damage, but the same is true of any bunker build with any class. Doing only 5k with 100b feels weird, but I can outlast anyone. I’ve been running around with one of my guildmates who came up with the build. Ask anyone on DB if they’ve seen a redheaded human girl and a tiny asuran warrior run around who are nearly impossible to kill unless they swarm us. We can’t do much against them since they outnumber us by so much, so we’ve just been trolling them all day running up to SM then back to our base. They can only kill us when we get kitteny and stay too long getting pounded on by huge groups of them plus those freaking cannons.

You only need 16 of them to finish the event. There’s more than enough other easy ones that you can afford to skip that one.
You should use in-game gold to buy gems to try a new server, before quitting the game.
How the hell is this a solution? People hopping servers and all stacking onto just a few is what is causing the current problems in WvW to begin with. So how is recommending he join one of those bandwagon zergy servers any help? They need to get heavy handed and force transfer some guilds back to the servers they hopped from and even out the population, because this is getting frigin ridiculous. Either that or lower the population cap temporarily on all the maps to make it more fair. People would get sick of the longer queues on the mega zerg servers then transfer back. Things would stabilize after awhile then they could raise the cap again. How is 100 vs 10 even remotely fun especially when you’re on the side with only 10?
the 0/0/10/30/30 one works really well still. Take armor of earth trait for earth if you want to be a bit more tanky, or the auras give protection trait if you want to be a bit more supportive. Take the cleansing water thing in your last water trait or aura share to support. Not just your magnetic aura but also the frost aura you can make by casting eruption under your group then frozen ground on top of it will give protection.
They don’t keep nerfing PvE ele … we have never been stronger since release in PvE!
Spoken as someone who wasn’t around for beta when ele was actually good. Trust me, we’ve gotten weaker and weaker with each patch.
I’d advise against going full celestial. Your def and power will be low. I just have an amulet, 1 ring, 1 earing, and the other 2 are cavalier. I’m not sure how decent the armor will be as it’s impossible for anyone to have a full set now. I doubt going full celestial armor will be good though. Probably just the weaker pieces like shoulders and gloves since you won’t be taking a huge loss in other stats that way if you want to focus on something specific, but still get a decent benefit from them.
It shouldn’t take too long. I leveled my thief sand ranger solely in WvW after doing the required personal story tutorial thing in the beginning. So you can hit WvW at level 2 if ya want. Just stick with other people till you hit 80 and leech. Being around for tower captures and taking camps gives huge exp. And anyone can kill wandering dolyaks alone. It’s just not advisable to wander too far from others since you cant do much and are an easy kill.
I tend to try to avoid “doom and gloom” but I will just add my name to the list of people who have essentially lost interest in this game after this change.
I barely played WvW last week (I’m on DB btw). Logging into giant TC zergs on every map, and almost nobody on my team was disheartening. Most of the times we had a commander on maybe 1 map if we were lucky.
I played reset night this week, and then woke up Saturday to a 30k lead within like 12 hours of the match starting…I haven’t played WvW since (I’ve checked in every day with my guild, and with the PPT…there is almost never anything to do. We are like 3x ahead of the server below us).
The problem for me is…WvW was all I did. I leveled my first toon in PvE and I’ve leveled my 4 others solely in WvW from Level 2 (well one guy I leveled to 10 before going in). It’s the only reason I play[ed] the game. With this change I haven’t really done anything else except open my achievement box. That’s sad really. When the matches are good, I have a lot of fun….but not like this. Not like this
We aren’t too happy about facing you guys again either. Even during our prime time, we barely have enough people to hold out against you on 1 map while you have enough people to flood all 4 maps simultaneously. Most of us have just said screw it and haven’t even bothered logging into wvw. Just doing PvE stuff now till next week. It’s no fun facing the giant red blob.
