You can always mix pieces of armor, that’s what I did. I have a few pieces of knights and soldiers so I get decent prec, power, and still have some vitality. And I think soldier’s gear has higher power stat than knight’s, but knight’s has a higher def stat,

Notice how now after they nerf ele into oblivion there are all these thief hate threads. A lot of people played ele before because of the survival. All we were able to do is run away and hit for crap damage, rarely ever killing anyone and just being annoying. A lot of us got sick of the constant nerfs, so started rolling thieves since they have the mobility we USED TO have and also have the benefit of dealing 4 times the damage as ele and can stealth and reset the fight till we get the desired outcome of you being dead and us dancing on your corpse. So you’ve gotta ask yourself the question, which was worse? A mobile ele who was just a nuisance that you couldn’t kill, but also couldn’t kill you, or a thief who keeps harassing you till you die almost 2 shotting you while you cant see them?

Eles are in fact the weakest class now, it’s just that there are so many bad players who have the “Full Zerk on everything, all damage skills, No cc abilities, stand still and never dodge our obvious attacks” mentality that think eles are strong. Yeah we can heal a lot and cleanse conditions a lot. But we HAVE to just to be at the base survivability of what other classes have who just go full zerk and go “kitten i’m just gonna mow down everything in my path and anything that I cant 1 shot is OP and therefore must be nerfed.” This is just a learn to play issue on your part. My pet on my ranger can take down most eles by himself while I just sit there and do nothing. My freaking pet! and anyone who’s played ranger knows how crappy and horrible the pets AI is. And my snow leapord will be nerfed in the next patch and be even less effective, but I bet i’ll still be able to kill eles with him without attacking them once myself. And by the way, my ranger is level 46, upleveled with crappy gear and I can do this to level 80 eles in full exotics. LEARN TO PLAY!

Certain builds are being buffed but bunker ele is getting a lot weaker. I still don’t get why they’re so hellbent on destroying bunker ele, but still have yet to do anything to try and tone down the permastealth thief. And bunker ele was perhaps the best build for dealing with those annoying permastealth thieves anyway. But hey, a dev plays a thief so, yeah.

Also despite the buff to the 30 fire trait, fire is STILL a useless tree to invest in. IMO, instead of nerfing bountiful power, they should have moved it to the fire tree to ya know actually let our damage tree have some decent damage and making it worth investing in. Then added some sort of defensive boost in the water tree to replace the moved trait. That plus making blasting staff and the 9 sec attunement thing baseline would open up tons of new build possibilities. And replace the blasting staff trait with a skill that does 200 to toughness while wielding a staff or something like that

I said before I actually tried doing that for myself I used to think that thieves who did that sort of thing were actually good and that it was actually complicated to do all that bs they pull. that’s what I meant. but after I tried it for myself and saw how simple it is to do that, then I realized how ridiculous it actually is. How is that difficult to understand? I thought I explained it pretty well. Stop trying to twist my words around to make it seem like thieves aren’t OP, because they are.

Are you talking about the D/P build with the 5,2,2,2,5,2,2,2,2 spam that allows them to keep retealthing, stabbing you for massive damage while all the while making it impossible to hit them during the fraction of the second you can see them? Yeah before i actually tried it myself, i thought they were actually good and thats why i was having a hard time with them. Nope, its stupidly easy to do and yeah it does need a nerf. Heres a perfect example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ecl8d0TQGQ Yeah takes real skill to push 2 buttons over and over again. and its not like it requires strict timing or anything. make a thief and test it yourself. effective against 95% of the people you’ll ever run into. as long as you dont fight more than 5 people at once you’ll win with little effort.

I’ve played as a thief just for the sole purpose of learning how they work so i could kill them better with other classes. And those of you saying to play a thief so you can learn how to counter them…bull. Playing as a thief you learn how to counter the counters that people came up with to deal with the thief. yes you learn how to deal with some of their BS. but, dont you think thieves have done this too? Played as other classes to know how they work, how they would TRY to counter the thief? I’m by no means a good thief, but even i figured this out. I really don’t enjoy the class at all and its been resigned to being my bank mule at this point. I think the whole stealth mechanic is lame and really cheap. I’d prefer they removed stealth all together and implimented some sort of new defensive mechanics for thieves like more dodging to avoid damage. I’d find it much more enjoyable to play as if i could make it more like a ninja leaping around the place and avoiding getting hit altogether rather than hiding in the shadows like some cowardly thug to shank people when their backs are turned. They ARE overpowered. Any thief player who says they aren’t is in denial and just doesnt want their big shiny easy button taken away.

They should have given eles the anti movement condition instead of thieves. Would make staff ele a hell of alot better. Right now it’s still a free kill. That would atleast make it somewhat of a threat. Giving it to thieves was the stupidest idea ever. Standing still against a thief is suicide. now moving away from their stupidly OP burst damage will get you killed too thanks to a new condition. great job once again at balancing things Anet. And why still no reduction in our attunement recharge rate? we still have to spec into arcane because of that.

Why would they nerf bountiful power? We already do crap damage, If anything they should have buffed it up to 5%. Not even worth taking now. And why remove the stunbreaker from cleansing fire and lightning flash? I get that they want stunbreakers on glyphs and signets, but why not just add them and not remove 2 of the already existing stunbreakers?

So thieves get even more OP than they already were? Standing still against a thief is already suicide, so now i either stand still and get killed in a couple hits, or i try to evade them and still die thanks to a new condition they have access too? What genius thought giving this to theives was a good idea? I hope they significantly nerfed theives burst damage to compensate for this.

There are invisible bags ya know. Buy an invisible bag, put the pets and any other items you dont want to go back in your bank in there. When you click on deposit collectibles, the mini pets wont be deposited in the bank.

I jut hope one day i’ll be shocked in a good way when they change us. Up till now, every time a new patch comes out, i’m afraid to even look at it because i know it’s going to be more nerfs that will suck even more fun out of the class and make even more builds less viable. The thing they said they didnt want to do. All they did with the recent patches were force even more people into bunker spec because nerfing our healing, condition cleansing, mobility, etc. has made the glassier builds less effective cuz they lost what little survival abilities they did have. And we got nothing in return for those nerfs like buffs to other traits that would have actually made other specs more attractive.

They really need to up our base survivability and move some traits around so we arent required to invest in water and arcana just to be able to survive. We can survive, but we do crap damage. I’d love to be able to invest fully in fire and air and melt people’s faces, but you don’t do enough damage to justify losing what little survivability we have. If meteors could hit for as much as warrior’s 100b, then it would be worth it. But no, that would be too OP because people are too stupid to move out of the giant obvious red circle on the ground. Can’t tell you how many times i’ve killed people who just stand there attacking. probably dying with full endurance, never dodging once. And to me it doesnt even make sense in the first place that 100b can do more damage than meteor storm. Logically, a meteor falling out of space and slamming down into the earth and landing on someone SHOULD do more damage than a simple steel sword slashing at a guy.

There are several guides on the forums for many different builds. I’d suggest you go to the mists first, where resetting traits is free, and try all of them out and see which one you like best rather than keep spending silver to respec. Spvp isnt really the same as PvE, so things will be different, but it will give you a basic idea atleast without costing you lots of money to try out all the builds.

A better solution would be to give other classes traits that allow them to see stealthed targets. Thieves can rip boons off of people which is basically an anti-ele and anti guardian ability since they rely so heavily on boons. In that sense it would only be fair for other classes to have anti thief skills. The only reason why stealth is so OP is because of the fact there is no counter for it. Every other class mechanic has some sort of counter for it. But, food isnt the answer. the game shouldnt be balanced around food. They could also jsut change stealth so that it behaves the same way it does in jsut about evey other game that has some sort of stealth mechanic. First off make stealth last alot longer, until the target engages in combat. Stealth shouldnt be a get out of jail free card for a thief who messes up just so they can reset the fight over and over till they get the outcome they want from the fight. They should have to use it intelligently. Make stealth permanent until combat. as soon as they attack and hit a target, they become revealed and cant stealth again until they are out of combat. They have to play much more intelligently this way.

To be honest they arent really that great. the AoE area is really small, and it takes 4 seconds to deploy it. Standing still for 4 seconds a good thief could kill you. It’s only purpose right now is trolling the bad ones who are stupid enough to get caught in it. But i have over 5k badges i’m not using on anything, so i might as well use them to troll thieves.

Haha i’m loving this. I’ll say the same thing that thieves trolling on the ele thread said when they nerfed RTL “if you rely on one mechanic of your profession so heavily that it cripples your class when you no longer have it, L2P!” Not so fun when the shoe is on the other foot now is it? If you rely so heavily on stealth that the class is rendered useless to you by one trap, then it was obviously too good to begin with and something like this is perfectly fair. And yeah it’s worth spending the badges just to deal with one thief just so i can troll them. If i can’t RTL away from you anymore, you shouldn’t be able to stealth and run away from me. Perfectly fair. Thieves tears are delicious!

Hmmm, now that may be an interesting way of making the Zeal trait line more useful. Tweak our symbols. Most of them don’t really do much and are only really good for combo fields. Having them get abilities in zeal that would add more damage, or make all symbols cause burning or cripple or something like that. It would definitely be fun to play around with some sort of nuking symbol build with massive CC abilities.

I do miss spirit weapons being unkillable. Used to run a spirit weapon build til they changed them, now using a shout build. They should either make them unkillable again or remove the timer from them and let them remain out until they get destroyed. Aside from that, I don’t really want anything changed. I’m afraid they’d destroy our viable builds in an attempt to balance things out. that’s typically what they’ve done with the other classes I play. Rather than buff the useless things, they bring down the useful ones to the same level of suck as the useless ones. So i’d prefer they not touch anything at all since they don’t know what they’re doing most of the time.

Staff did have decent damage in the beginning back in beta, but sadly the horrible players were too stupid to move out of the obvious red circles on the ground that you could WALK out of before the AoE even started to hurt you, so they nerfed staff ele’s damage into the ground due to all the complaining. “I keep dying when I stand still in the giant red circle and i get killed by meteors, nerf ele!” That’s what happened to us. Thieves used to actually have to be careful when they dropped down shadow refuge cuz we could meteor them, and there was an actual threat of hurting them. Now they just stand in it and eat the 1 or 2 hits of 1500ish damage that MIGHT hit them and laugh at us.

I’m not too optimistic after the last few patches that have made us weaker and havent even bothered to fix our useless abilities. Their idea of balance is instead of making our crappy abilities decent and more appealing to promote build diversity, they make our few decent and neccesary abilities suck just as much as the useless ones. i think we’re going to end up with NO useful abilities after this next patch since everything will end up sucking equally. That is how they balance us. Time to dust off my boring warrior or thief since those 2 classes will inevitably get even more ridiculous and unneccesary buffs as the only class i still actually enjoy playing as continues getting nerfed into oblivion.

It didnt take them long to revert the change to thieves stealth when the had revealed at 4 secs. which wasnt that bad. I could still permastealth if need be, just took better timing and actually had to pay attention. But they saw that as being too exteme of a change to thieves that crippled the profession. Yet doubling the cooldown of rtl, reducing its range, and nerfing mistfom wasn’t crippling? I just don’t get their logic. I guess it’s because thief is one of their pet classes. If we had a dev who actually mained ele maybe we could get some somewhat intelligent changes to the profession.

Thieves are not OP haha! I laughed so hard I almost peed! So stabbing even tanky people for 10k then resetting the fight then stealthing so you can keep trying to hit them for another 10k over and over again till you kill them isn’t OP? And I can stab squishy people for more than that usually. Eles used to be able to get away, but are now guaranteed kills for any thief with half a brain. Oh and if more of his buddies show up you can just stealth and be halfway across the map watching them try to AoE the spot where you used to be standing while you bust out some sweet dance moves. Started playing Aion and Tera again. Just occasionally check on the forums now hoping there will be a post saying they un-nerfed us. until then I see no point in even logging in. I may come back to GW2 next month if the next patch seems promising. Until then Anet is getting no more of my money. Maybe i’ll buy a maid outfit for my Elin instead of more gems for my now retired ele.

You can always do what I plan on doing and refuse to spend another cent on this game if they go through with the changes. tell everyone you know to do the same. Protest it in a way they HAVE to pay attention to by hitting them where it hurts most, in their wallets. If all the eles band together and refuse to stop supporting the game financially, they will have no choice but to listen. Considering the huge amount of people who play ele, that is a very big loss in revenue.

Until they eventually make it so that no items work in WvW. They already removed the fun ones like the spikeroot fruit and the teleport gun. Just out of curiousity though, what are those tonics called? i stopped using consumables after they took away golem in a box and the teleport gun.

They should make ether reneval uninterupable. Whenever anyone sees us do it they’ll just knock us out of it, and without mistform to hide in while we do it anymore, we are as good as dead. Oh wait, we can jsut get away with ride the ligtning, nope, wait….we can’t do that anymore either. Well maybe we can just stand and fight them and hope we don’t die from the 20 people piling conditions and cc on us. Well, we can still stand in LA and chat with people atleast. On the bright side, I don’t have to spend any more money on this game. No longer have a use for gems since the only class I still enjoy playing is being nerfed into the ground. Well it’s not soulbound yet right? so you can use it for someone else. I’d say hold off on soulbinding any of that stuff to your ele yet. Wait for a couple patches for them to pull their heads out their rear and realize these changes are ridiculous and possibly reverse it and give us the buffs in other areas (specifically staff, focus and scepter) that we desperately need. I’m wishing now that stuff was account bound rather than soulbound on use. Freaking waste of ascended items.

Just be glad you’re still in the beginning with your character and havent yet bought all your final gear and wasted all that gold yet. Just Imagine how those of us who have spent over 1000 hours on our eles and have full exotics and wasted all our laurels and grinded through fractals for gear feel now. Most of us feel like quitting now.

I’ve played as every single profession and got bored with them after awhile. I think the only ones that arent fully geared in 80 exotics are engineer and necro, can’t be bothered to check, havent touched them in months. Necro is another profession that is in desperate need of some buffs, but i’m not gonna get into that here. Ele was the only thing that kept me playing this game. Started as one in beta and loved it. Tried the other professions just for the sake of doing something different, just didnt have as much fun with them as i did with Ele. Well after this patch i guess i’ll take a break for awhile and play something else. Probably come back a few patches later and hope they’ve pulled their heads out their rears and fixed things properly. I think PSO2 will be out soon. Atleast I can count on Force being stupidly powerful in that game, as mages should be.

guardians are easy badges. I’ve spent nearly 500 hours on my guardian, i know how they work. They arent that tough if you know how they work. AH will only work if they have allies near them, alone they have limited condition removal, and most guardians use shouts rather than that med skill that cleanses. I usually open with an autoattack to remove the aegis then pin them with the bow attack and stack on bleeds. Then i usually just finish them with the sword’s burst ability. And isnt warrior gettign some sort of boon hate thing so they deal more damage based on the buffs? Indirect nerf to guardians, making it even easier as i stated before.

If you think warrior is a joke in pvp, then you’re doing something wrong. I have no problem killing people with mine. Its only the noob zerker 100b warriors that have problems. Bleed build with twin swords and a longbow. I just watch people melt as they attempt to run away from me. Now it will be even easier. Not all racial skills suck. Asuran’s radiation field is absolutely devastating especially if you’re a condition specced necro. Its borderline OP. Pain inverter is equally as good. Why can’t we have something like that? Lyssa isn’t so bad for a quick boon and condition on your enemy. Kormir is just useless. It needs its cooldown reduced by alot jsut to make it worth using. The hounds are actually kind of useful in some situations, just dont use them near alot of AoE or they die easily. they can give you an edge in 1vs1 combat though just to have an extra thing hitting your opponent. Just make sure you don’t use them when your opponent is near dead or they might rally off of killing them. Grenth needs its duration bumped up alot or its cooldown shortened. it would also be nice if it also crippled in addition to what it already does to make the most out of it. should also give stability to you. Melandru only seems useful to me when fighting harpies in fractals so they wont knock you off the edge. And even then its not that great. Aside from that it sucks horribly.

The reason everyone runs that spec is because most of our other traits suck. Ele needs some serious work to make other builds as viable. I just hope they buff our other stuff before nerfing the only thing that actually works and allows us to survive in extended fights. D/D spec is great for survival but has no killing power. They really need to work on our damage. I’d gladly take a hit to our already abysmal survival abilities if they bumped up our damage alot. The only way we can survive and not get 1 shotted by other classes is with the bunker spec. But our damage is pitiful in exchange for that. They need to completely rework all of ele’s traits.

I use knight’s gear and a zerker staff when in dungeons. A cleric amulet for some healing doesn’t hurt either. And you can dodge agony attacks. You can probably make it up to 20 without any AR if you really wanted to. But it’s probably in your best interest to get some anyway cuz it sucks when you screw up a dodge and get hit by it at that point with no AR. I was stubborn and wanted to see how far i could go without any.

I was wondering that myself. I have over 100 laurels now and don’t know what to use them on. I was considering the celestial sigil and either a knight’s accesory or a cavalier’s one.

You’re also forgetting Thieves and how stupidly overpowered they are. I can crit even the tankiest people for over 10k with minimal effort. And if they live? Just stealth and try over and over again till I inevitably kill them. It’s by far the easiest “I win and there’s nothing you can do about it class” that I’ve played in any game ever. I don’t understand why there’s so many complaint threads by thieves about how hard they have it. you have to be pretty inept and not pay attention to what your surroundings are to actually die even when fighting 3 or 4 people at once. I can only imagine how much easier it will get when we eventually have full ascended armor and weapons. And thief isnt even my main. I’ve spent the least amount of time on it out of all classes.
