IMHO, matchups should always be 1v2v3, 4v5v6, …. , 22v23v24. If a server dominates a tier (for eg. beat the rest by 100k+) then they should be moved up a tier for a week or two to see how they perform in the upper tier while adjusting their glicko accordingly.

Only negative side to this, as is the case often with servers, is that there might be 4 server that belongs in a particular tier. It happened pre season 3 when we had like 4-5 servers of relatively equal strengths.

I can confirm it. SoSBL (Green BL) is laggy as hell! Got d/c’ed 4 times in 10 minutes to give an approximation of how bad it is.

Now that’s what you’d expect, so it wouldn’t be weird.

When everyone else was seeing a number of new guilds and way more people than usual even for a tournament, when CD and DB together could barely match their numbers despite both having tournament influxes as well, and when they shoot straight to the top of T2 despite claiming the PvE players would evaporate after the season, it’s pretty obvious that Yak’s Bandwagon is no illusion. The only people claiming otherwise are (some of the) YB players.

Not boasting, but we also got “destroyed” by DB/CD when we were in T3 at reset. Once we settle down, it will become interesting xD

We are different from Maguuma in the sense we care about PPT (defending structures till tick, capping structures just before tick, etc) and will always do
And no, although some are insomniacs I highly doubt Yaks are sacrificing their sleep to win this and we don’t have the usual PvE’ers we had during season. Many guilds such as TC, PAL, SG are actually enjoying fights in this tier.

With the way FA people are talking in this thread I won’t be surprised if they become the next Maguuma who only played for fights and not PPT. In an ideal scenario, you need both to survive in a particular tier. YB has a good mix of both although we play to win every match and will continue to do so.

On topic, I can assure that my server mates are having a blast out there.

The zombie SoS k-train hoards are real during that time and even YB will have a tough time defending against their numbers. Mags died because of it and I’d hate to see it happen to YB. Another thing is that they should just lock transfers during the season and probably 1-2 weeks prior to season but in that case Anet will lose real life $$$ they make from the gems, so its kinda tough situation for them.

FYI, DB is full as well. Playing during OCX/SEA time, I am yet to see it marked other than full.

Each server gets a yak statue placed in their citadel I think: Golden for 1st, Silver for 2nd, etc
Also you get a buff for few hours like increased WXP gain depending on your placement in the league.

Sure, their population is going to drop after the season, but so will everyone else’s. It’s not just the appearance of a few PvE’ers that makes a server capable of focussing DB down below NSP, it’s a full-on bandwagon.

You have no idea the potential on our PVE’ers.
It has been the same on all the seasons, our PvE population during seasons is way higher than any T3 or below server, heck it goes so big we were able to beat FA twice during season 2, thought they will claim it was a double team with HoD, something that never occurred.
We didn’t got any transfers except for vT, and even them are just a few, less than 8 as far as I am aware.
Not sure where you get the mentality YB is a bandwagon when we have less than 15 people that transfered to the server before and during the season.
Now if you are talking between Season 2 and Season 3, then yes, we got a some people, TC, TUNE, FB (but they are gone now), and also some people returned to the server after being away for a long time.
Now if you count all those together, that is around 40 new/returning people on the server.
There are 2 reasons we can beat DB:
1) The give up way too easy, and they are full of fairweathers, so as quickly as their numbers go up, they go down just a fast with a little resistance and a couple of deaths.
2) Their average pug level is below our average pug level, which lucky for us, helps us keep our fairweathers around.

I guess he was just trolling. I checked his server and he is from SBI. Fortunately, our PvE’ers contribute A LOT during season to boost YB for a little. As someone from SBI should have known that our WvW population always increases during season since it happened in S1, S2 and is happening now as well.

YB doesn’t really have outstanding commanders in the traditional sense. Where YB gains points is in communication and planning. YB’s population simply isn’t built well for open field fights so commanders are limited in what they can do.

Unfortunately, OP included criteria other than open field fights. While our commanders may not be great in open field fights, they are one of the best in placement of siege (DK, Rheayas and Rena in particular) and other battlefield tactics.
Besides this, you can’t really take away dedication of someone who stays 16+ hours online to rally people constantly. I have been on YB since release to know how our much our commander play a role in “game changing”.

It is swiss style, that is correct. Certainly worlds might get matched up against one another more than once, but the nature of the matchmaking is going to minimize that, especially in conjunction with the 4 week timeframe.

What Devon said was that we might get matched against a server whom we already faced. For eg. We faced DB in week 1 and in week 3.

No where Devon said that the whole match will repeat which stands by the original point they made in the blog post that every match will he unique.

What does “every match will be unique” really mean?
Of course every match will be unique, it happen at different times in a different situation, once as start match once as final match of the season, even if the same server play it i.e. a typical advertisement statement in an advertisement text: nice words without much content.

We will find out tomorrow.

Not really. I don’t recall any guilds coming to YB from Mag, only a handful of individual players transferred (maybe around 10-15). VLK went to CD, ERP went to DB IIRC. There’s a reason why DB became full immediately after Mag started bleeding. So, “bandwagoners” went to the wrong server lol

Also, don’t tell me that most players from Mag came to YB knowing very well how we play (They call us a specific name siege mo…..). They probably went to DB and CD in hope of destroying us.

Regarding DB, from what I’ve seen they have LOTS of fairweathers (we do have too), but their proportion is much higher. They were leading us hours into reset, but then suddenly disappeared after facing some resistance and then it just went downhill for them this week.

/Edit: Its no secret that we overperform at season due to the overtime put in by our players. Happened in S1, S2 and also happening in S3, so nothing new.

3. Luvpie isn’t recruiting for the 3rd server as much as asking those that want more GvG focus to consider whoever settles in at the 3rd spot. SoS and FA already have some great GvG guilds and simply joining one of us will mean missing out on fighting many of the remaining guilds.

Who is Luvpie to ask GvG guilds to consider to transfer to whomever comes up to T2 from T3? It will most likely be YB to go up, so he is asking GvG guilds, who do not fit into the YB community, to come to us. No, thank you. Again, leave recruiting to us.

YB will most likely not change its playstyle for the sake of servers that have announced to spawn camp us.

FA and SoS WILL focus YB despite everything that has been claimed here, to push us out of T2 again. That’s actually fine. But don’t pretend you won’t do that.

I am sure there are more guilds in T2-8 that are interested in fights/gvgs but don’t care for the blobs/raid sizes in T1. Please consider the THIRD SERVER in the T2 match up once the tourney ends.

PS: The reason I put Third Server instead of YB is simple. I don’t know YB. I am not sure how welcoming they would be to fight guilds or if they even want to be in T2. A week or two in T2 after tourney should give a clearer picture of who the third server in T2 will be.

If YB posters in this thread represent the attitude of the majority then don’t worry about 2v1. You guys will stop playing on Sunday & will bounce back to T3. Can’t wait for CD or DB.

Not to sound arrogant but this has been said before and I will repeat it, no server in silver has the coverage to compete in T2 unless its during season, which isn’t the case. Maybe few GvG guilds will like T2 really well but what about the rest? PPT guilds? Fairweathers? Without them the server will drop down a tier again.

So I’ve been on 5 or 6 servers and was in a GVG guild for the majority of my time playing this game (HOPE). I took a vacation after we disbanded and server hopped a few times. Lately I’ve been on YB while I wait to be able to transfer to TC.

It’s the strangest server I’ve ever been on.

Some observations:

Some of the silver league servers have MUCH higher population in NA prime than SOS/FA/Mag. I saw blobs from NSP that were much larger than I had seen in months on T2. There is a glicko barrier that has maintained the T2 matchup for a long time, and that was keeping the tier the way it was before leagues. At this point, I feel comfortable in saying that T3 and some T4 servers have more overall coverage than MAG and FA, and sometimes SOS when their OCX decide to fairweather. Obviously Mag is going to fall down. What I’ve seen from YB is pretty ridiculous coverage between hours and raw number of people on the maps. Whenever I comment on this I get the same old spiel about how YB plays hard for the seasons and then doesn’t wvw much. There are definitely quite a few servers that could take the new T2 spot.

All I’ve done is pug zerg surf and roam on YB. I’ve seen a grand total of one guild raid that looked semi-competent and that was The Coasters (even though they were tagged up for pugs when I was with them, their movement gave me the impression they at least understood the fundamentals of open-field). Outside of that, my experience leads me to conclude that YB is a server of pugs that has fully embraced the T1 PPT game. Any ridicule from me about dropping open field siege is met by a wall of red text saying that YB is winning all the fights so obviously they’re the best server. When DB loses a keep because YB has more people online, it’s because YB is more skilled, not that they have more coverage. It’s the same T1 mentality that had me in stitches the last time I was on SOS matched up against T1.

It really astounds me that so many people are fixated on this “winning” when there are hardly any prizes for it (especially outside of leagues). The farming HOPE would do when we weren’t scrimming made me a relatively wealthy player. I never do PVE, I find it extremely boring and unchallenging. I think if people took the time to learn different builds and playstyles, they’d be surprised how much playing for the fights is. I know. I was a former PPT trykitten IOJ. I used to get glee from ninjaing T3 towers and unleashing a hellfire of arrowcarts onto an enemy zerg. As soon as I learned to play (l2p nubs), the siege and ppt was empty and meaningless.

I wish there was a way to document the positive PPT effect gvg guilds had on SOS. When we first got there, NA was pretty much devoid of players. We’d get yelled at for not running across the map to help save a keep/tower, but we’d definitely help out if there was a good fight to be had (no, we’re not moving 25 players away from a good fight because you’re not capable of taking on a 10 man group). Most of the time though, especially in home bl, we kept big enemy guilds occupied by fighting them down South. If we weren’t there, they would do the same thing we did when we were bored and wanted fights… drop rams and start taking things until someone would come fight us. I guarantee we had an overall positive impact on the oh-so-precious ppt.

I’m a jerk. I’ll start this paragraph with this. I’m not a nice person and I love to see people qqing in map chat (<3 u sos). I think we should move some gvg guilds from kitten YB and ruin their PPT heaven. There is enough of a population here to maintain t2 easily. It would bring stability to t2 again and unify the GVG population. Right now the community is fractured between T1 and T2. After this season ends, interaction between the two tiers will be extremely limited. It’s unclear if/when Anet will increase the population caps for T1 servers so full guilds can transfer over again.

Otherwise: Please anet, I’m stuck on YB. I just want to run with a highly ranked gvg group again and farm baddies and scrim other good players. Please help, the locals are probably going to try and kill me soon. Let me in to TC please? <3?

lol then why did you transfer here knowing that we play to win every week and don’t have many open field guilds? I am guessing you were on Maguuma just before transferring here and knowing how these two servers despise each other you shouldn’t have really transferred here. Now stay stuck here haha

I can’t speak for my other servermates whether they will tank or not, but I’d love to experience T2 for atleast a few weeks. I want to see how we fare against the SoS OCX karma train with 5x/10x our numbers if we hold it with our siege or not since the closest thing to this in T3 is holding stuffs against DB SEA while being outnumbered.

Lastly, you (or me or anyone else for that matter) aren’t gonna decide what T2 has room for. It’s upto each individual servers to play however they want to unless it involves hacking or cheating.

Well since you mentioned YB, I thought I would correct you. The correct IGN is Dragun Knight. Yes, he may not brilliant in open field things but he is one of the major names on YB and is really the “master of siege” who can draw huge crowd, so I guess it fits OP’s agenda (whatever he is trying to accomplish with this thread).

No one is saying change how you play here, it’s just being said that whoever gets firmly placed at #6 (it’s fair to say the ball is in YB’s court on this one) should be under consideration for GvG guilds looking to transfer, or a spot for people wanting to start one.

Then leaving when the rest of the server can’t carry wvw/ppt for them and leave to the next one to claim their awesomeness. that is probably why every server in t3 and below are wary of all these “gvg” guilds. That’s during season. Off season, its very different to what it is now. During season we always over-perform due to massive overtime our players put in (1 particular commander put in 16+ hours a day almost everyday). Off season that’s not the case, so we doubt we will last in T2
