Non Raiders blocked from XP bar spirit shards

It’s only being wasted by a player choice. Sorry, not much sympathy. Everyone in this game is capable of raiding.

Are you saying that, since doing raids is just a choice, there shouldn’t be any prestige (and special, unique rewards like, say, Legendary armor) attached to them? Because somehow i really doubt that’s what you intended.

Nope, what im saying is if you want something…instead of complaining you’re being restricted from it (by choice) then you clearly don’t want the something bad enough.

This is a game that I play for entertainment, not to “hold my nose” and get through it. I have enough things I’m forced to do IRL without dealing with it in my fun time.

Again, disingenuous … you aren’t ‘forced’ to do this content, even if you want shards.

Anet, if you gonna nerf guard...

Obtena.7952

That argument makes no sense because Anet doesn’t ignore class skills and balance; we have multiple, focused class balance patches to prove it.

Disparity between classes exists simply because they are … not the same classes. What is desired in a zerg in WvW is irrelevant … the commander gets whatever flotsam and jetsam players bring to their map regardless of how useless those classes may be.

You seem to be under the impression that somehow, you don’t see balance in the game, yet the things you say as evidence aren’t related to balance … Powercreep isn’t a balance issue (you can still get it even if classes were perfectly balanced) and tedious dull combat can also exist with perfectly balanced classes. Me thinks you don’t understand what balance does and how it will affect the game.

I don’t get the complaint … Engineer is great class if you learn how to play it. The fact you don’t see many has more to do with the level of attention and understanding you need to play it well, not that it’s a bad class and needs to be fixed. It’s got massive rotations and has the most connected number of traits and skills of any class. That learning curve isn’t achieved with a few months of play.

Your opinion is yours, but don’t mistake it with how the game is actually designed and interpret that difference as a ‘problem’ that needs to be fixed, including a minute by minute report from Anet on the progress to satisfy you.

Build diversity, please

in Revenant

Obtena.7952

To me, build diversity means META build diversity. Because in meta, only Glint is acceptable (I’m talking about pve). Core legends aren’t good enough to be meta. They need to be buffed. If all core legends were good enough, you’d see tank, condi or healer heralds.

My demand is not that they change how skills are related to legends and you can choose only two, but that they work some trait lines (salvation i’m looking at you) and weapon skills, buff core legends or even revamp a legend’s design (like they changed Mallyx after beta, but now performs poorly) to create a variety in meta builds for any game mode.

I don’t see how that would work, irregardless of class because in that sense, Meta is just the optimal build for the situation. I mean, Meta build diversity … what does that even look like? Is there any class in this game where Meta build diversity exists?

As far as i know, each class has an optimal setup and rotation for whatever content you want to do. It’s not like I can choose one of a few builds, get whatever kind of gameplay I want AND be the optimal performance … that’s a fallacy in this game, just by the way it’s designed.

Anet, if you gonna nerf guard...

That question is similar to asking if Anet should actively nerf and buff professions through a rotation of ‘winning’ positions so everyone ‘gets a turn’. No, I don’t think there is a place for introducing diversity with a nerf/buff system because we already have it … If you want diversity, you get it through access of multiple character slots and choice of multiple professions.

Not really, having half the classes as either useless or barely used in WvW raids/zergs, whilst at times half a zerg is made up of one class or there is more of that class than four or five classes combined in a raid/zerg, is the opposite of diversity, you get diversity by giving classes roles so everyone can bring something to the party.

But as Anet basically spent 3 years balancing for their failed “e-sport” neglecting WvW & PvE, with PvE raids only now getting balance consideration, the result has been for WvW, probably the worst class balance over the long term in any MMORPG I’ve played.

I don’t get what you mean “Not Really” … if you want diversity in performance by CLASS in WvW, or anything else, you get it through class choice. How many roles do you think Anet can invent just to provide diversity for each class to not be useless? Let’s be realistic here … It’s not 9. Why would they even strive to do such a thing? Besides … when was the last time you couldn’t participate in WvW with whatever non-diverse, useless class you wanted to use? Answer is NEVER!

It doesn’t really matter why it was nerfed, point is it shows a build does not have to be overused / OP in tournies to be nerfed.

That is correct and therefore a worthy point to talk about what DOES need to be in place to get a nerf or a buff … because it’s certainly not based on performance, which everyone thinks it is.

Only one DH in the whole roster of 30 players in the last weekend World Tournament (which anyway performed poorly) should be enough to stomp any claim about the “DH opness”.

No one played turret engi in tournaments either, it still got nerfed because for most of the population playing in a less organised manner it was too strong.

Is that a fact, or just why you think it was nerfed? let’s be careful about assuming why Anet adjusts skills in the game … it will lead you to bad conclusions.

DH simply has a different ‘impact’ curve depending on the skill of the opponents. There isn’t actually anything wrong with that. I think it’s obvious DH stomps noobs and can’t compete in the pro level. Not sure why that’s even a problem. Different classes, different performance. It’s completely unreasonable to expect every class to perform at approximately the same level against a given opponent because of the diversity of skills across them all.

How are Mesmers supposed to keep up?

And as usual, that’s a pretty irrelevant point,

So not are you a super genius and the only person who really knows how to play Mesmer but you also get to dictate what other people talk about or make threads about?

I’m not dictating anything … feel free to make all the irrelevant mesmer vs. other class DPS threads you want; it just shows the exact same thing the last thread did … people that make those comparisons don’t understand how MMO balance works, or doesn’t work, depending on you POV.

Nothing new here … I don’t even think the last thread that complained about the exact same thing is 2 pages old yet. Just don’t be upset if someone else rehashes the same reasons the thread doesn’t make much sense to begin with.

And as usual, that’s a pretty irrelevant point, for a whole bunch of reasons, most notably that Anet doesn’t balance classes based on other classes performance.

That’s literally what balance is. So you’re saying that ANet doesn’t do balance. Which I think might be the one thing we’re all in agreement on.

I think Anet doesn’t do balancing as people view it, which is why it looks like they don’t. /shrug That’s why it’s so funny to see these threads repeat themselves and see players not look at how things change in the game to conclude they don’t understand what balance actually is. It’s certainly not ‘all classes performing similarly’, that’s evident.

The premise of this thread from the OP is that Mesmers aren’t capable of the basic things that they need to for success in PVE … that’s just wrong. It’s not a problem with the class if people don’t learn how to play it. That’s not a question of balance or DPS. The tools are there; Mesmers are not your ‘press 1’ kind of class.

No, mesmers are not your “press 1” kind of class. You are right on that point. But you are still missing the actual point of this thread and others. Mesmer can be a complicated class to play well. And even if you absolutely master the class and play at top level, using all 19 of your skills (20 with chrono line), a lot of the new PvE content is absolutely miserable on a mesmer compared to other classes. That is the point people are making.

I don’t get what is wrong with that … Miserable like “I can’t complete PVE content, even though I’m a Mesmer master and use all my tools”

or … “It’s hard, but it can be done with the right tools and build”.

Big difference, but still, using them to direct attention to the same area of DPS ‘deprivation’ or whatever you wish to call it. Ultimately, I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion to adjust DPS to address an inability to complete PVE content … if that inability in fact even exists.

Well yeah, thief players always think kittenting up the mesmer board is a valuable use of their time, doesn’t make it so.

At least the other guy is actually trying to make an argument, no matter how flawed it is. You are just coming in here without bothering to read what people are saying and declaring everybody is bad at the game while you are a genius who figured out how to really play Mesmer.

That’s lots of angry talk. I don’t know what’ other guy’ your talking about but making a bad argument isn’t better than disregarding the one I made. I mean, I can’t be the only person to have figured this out … unless I’m not giving myself enough credit that is.

Putting aside his comment, the point a lot of people are making isn’t that mesmers cannot play PvE or solo content. The point they are making is the ease of which other classes do it compared to mesmer and the lack of parity there in.

And as usual, that’s a pretty irrelevant point, for a whole bunch of reasons, most notably that Anet doesn’t balance classes based on other classes performance. The whole class is designed to deliver that kind of play to the player. Complaining about it is like complaining you don’t like vanilla when you ordered vanilla ice cream.

If people don’t like the style of play, the level of damage, the way you get damage or the deficiencies of the class, the answer is to play a class more suited to your style of play, not make the class more like other classes. It’s exactly the reason Anet made 9 classes that play all very differently with their various characteristics.

Same old QQ about open world PVE … the comical part about THIS particular thread is that there is some notion Mesmer needs to ‘keep up’ with other classes when … it doesn’t, because we are talking about PVE; the most non-competitive aspect … no, the most co-operative aspect, of the the game.

While Mesmer damage is flawed by the concept of the class, I can’t say that I have been particularly challenged by this class in PVE. No, it’s not easier to play than say, Guardian, but the class isn’t flawed because it doesn’t do comparable damage to the other classes (which is irrelevant) and certainly not because it ‘falls behind’ other classes in PVE.

It’s PVE flavour reuires more focus to play well than other classes and I found it’s well suited to people that want ‘lots to do’ in PVE settings. In that sense, it does deliver.

Frankly, anyone that complains about pocket raptors or ‘no AoE’ doesn’t know how to play the class. It’s not my main, but I know enough to understand the class has the tools to deal with these threats.

No one can reasonably argue that its ‘too much’ loot without presenting observations of REAL ingame effects due to ‘too much loot’ from AB. It’s just silly.

good argument.

The price of ecto is down considerably since people figured out how to multi-loot efficiently. Those who AB/ML gain the benefits of selling their rares or ecto; those who don’t get less from selling the ones they obtain through the less-lucrative farms. (The same holds true for other mats; that one is just easier to see in the graphs.)

And again, I’m not arguing this is something ANet needs to post about, let alone address. I’m just saying that there’s plenty of evidence that AB/ML has disrupted the economy.

how is this different from any other farm? like sw for example? nothing changes.

It’s the pace at which the AB farm generates the mats compared to other farms like SW that’s the problem.

A farm that produces 100 logs per day is going to affect the market a lot more quickly than a farm that produces 50 logs per day – where the logs both farms get are identical.

That honestly isn’t a problem … where the mats come from is completely irrelevant from an economic perspective. It’s only a problem when the volume of mats stops facilitating trade on the TP. We aren’t there yet.

Yet, there have been examples of how prices have changed and given that the mats that are rising are the ones you can’t easily get in AB and the ones that are falling are the ones you can easily get in AB it’s going to be a problem one day.

Price changes is not a problem. Prices have been changing since the game was released. Prices that change are actually indicative of a healthy economy … I mean, it’s time to make some sense here. Is your argument ACTUALLY that Anet needs to fix MMapping in AB because prices change? The price changes aren’t even unreasonable. They are prices we have seen for mats in the past, MANY times. It’s around the average price IIRC.

I’m a broken record here … where is this significant negative game impact that is going to make someone at Anet give enough of a a rats behind about AB MMapping to think about fixing it? Prices changing is the best you guys got, then I have some bad news for you.

This thread is missing the point of why AB multimap is bad.

GW2 doesn’t give out much raw gold, rather rewards are given in form of loot and mats (or rather crap loot that is converted into mats) that can them be converted to gold via the TP.
AB multimap has dramatically increased the supply of mats, this is causing the value of those mats on the TP to fall dramatically. Since the metas all give the same types of mats, AB multimap is actually decreasing the value of other metas by driving down mat prices.

No, this hasn’t really happened. You can call it a dramatic fall, but the reality is that mats are hovering around the historical average or at least, within a reasonable range where they were in the past. Again, it’s NOT about the price of the mats, it’s about a volume of them that sustains regular trade.

Going strictly by the letter of that notice, it would not count as false advertising. “Regular intervals” could mean, for all we know, once every year.

I knew there was someone around here that saw this clever usage.

Yes, there is no timeline associated with the ‘sales promise’ or whatever our clever dissenters want to call it. In addition to the clever language Anet choose to describe the postponement, I would say anyone trying to challenge this legally would have quite the fight on their hands. I mean, you would think Anet consults their own lawyers or something … amazing.

your right… instead you bought a lifetime pass and then were told the rides you bought the pass to ride for, are no longer being used… totally not relevant….

Well, to be fair, it wouldn’t be relevant, because the lifetime pass just gets you in to the park (so lets you log in to the game) with no guarantees that every ride will always be available. Over time, some rides will be replaced/removed (content subject to change) but you still have your lifetime access to the park.

Making legendaries may be the only reason some people bought HoT (I don’t doubt it). But, if you buy lifetime access to a theme park, and they close your favorite restaurant or ride at the park months later, they aren’t likely to say “here’s your money back” and then compensate you further for the change.

This pretty much nails it. While people argue academics if EULA is relevant or not or where, THIS analogy is exactly how your GW2 payment works.

To not recognize that is just head in the sand mentality. In the end, there is balance with mats and prices, EVEN with AB MMapping.

Either way, you just see what you want to see. Who crafts and who doesn’t … is irrelevant. If your argument is only considering the section of the population that does one or the other, it doesn’t look at the big picture at all. Funny you accuse me of missing the big picture here, even though you don’t recognize how the market naturally balances all these things out.

BTW, I’m still waiting for that massive negative game impact AB MMapping has … if ‘prices are lower’ is the best you can do, well, GL with that.

That discussion has already been dismissed and buried. Anet could easily argue they DID deliver on their ‘sales promise’ because what they ‘promised’ didn’t specify how many Legendaries they would create. No one can sensibly argue against that.

There really isn’t any wrong with the argument I’m making … EVERY time I see someone QQ about not getting content they were ‘promised’ that they paid for, it’s cringe-worthy because no matter how you want to twist it, they don’t pay for content, they pay for access to it. I don’t own a share in the amusement park every time I pay to go there … I pay for access to the rides. Same thing. The EULA just defines the rules of use for Anet’s property, for the benefit of the player and them. Anyways, people can’t actually say they didn’t get what they paid for in the first place, even if they DID pay for specific content. See first paragraph.

That’s nice … the fact remains that you pay for access. You don’t own your account. So when people complain they didn’t get content they paid for, they don’t understand what they are actually talking about. No matter … I’m sure customers are so aggrieved by this, they will pursue it choosing any one of the lineup of lawyers willing to take this on … :/

It costs me less to buy the mats I want and I make more on the rare items I sell. So I have to work less than before to get the same amount of gold and mats. See what I did there? You only see your side. There are perspectives that you are ignoring to push your agenda.

This is why you’re arguments don’t work … They don’t consider the impact on the game, just on you. What is important isn’t if things you want are cheap/easy to get. It’s if there is the right amount of materials on the market to facilitate wealth exchange.

OK let’s be honest then … how is someone looting 20 chests or 200 chests, in an intended loot map, impact you negatively as a player from an economic POV? I’ve already asked this question … I don’t see an answer yet. Again, I see lots of speculation that this is the worst thing for the economy ever … so someone CERTAINLY must be able to tell us WHAT this terrible thing is that is actually ingame …. I don’t mind waiting for an answer …

Until then, yes, I’m going to say it’s jealousy because if you can’t point out a REAL SIGNIFICANT NEGATIVE game impact, then what other motive do people have to insist this needs to be fixed?

See, the problem here is this; No, I don’t think Anet intended for people to swap maps to get more access to Grand chests but it is clear that AB was intended to be THE loot map in HoT. Now let’s go a mile high … other than a completely academic argument that it’s ‘not intended’, if there hasn’t been a massive, negative impact on the economy of the game, then what compelling reason does anyone have to fix it? I’m not trying to score internet points here … in a game where Anet wants players to make mats available to each other on the TP to exchange wealth, and included a loot phase in AB to facilitate that, explain to me how it makes sense to nerf MMapping when it achieves that goal? I mean, it’s absolutely ridiculous in the context of the game to pursue it.

No one can reasonably argue that its ‘too much’ loot without presenting observations of REAL ingame effects due to ‘too much loot’ from AB. It’s just silly.

i would agree with you if this were a subscription based game, which it is not.

This is not a point of argument … it’s simply true. Read the EULA. You pay for access. You don’t actually own your account or anything on it.

Believe whatever you want, it’s intentional, and that’s my point. I think it’s pretty ridiculous to think Anet ‘messed up’ a whole underground area where you can loot 20 or so chests after the meta is complete in AB and ‘messed up’ not having similar areas in the other three HoT zones.

yes so they are wasting time for single player features, THIS IS A MMO, not a single player game

People forgot this

Actually, I think the real issue isn’t that there is single player features … I mean, in other MMO’s, no one crafts your gear for you, or camps a spawn for that rare drop you want … those are single player features too. MMO’s are full of them. They wouldn’t function if they didn’t.

The real issue is if there was a focus on delivering content that had a poor return on Anet’s investment to develop. Clearly Anet felt Legendaries fell into that category. It was little do to with single player features.

That may have been the reason they did this, but still they had no right to short change customers on advertised content. Look at Volkswagen for instance, they delivered great cars people love them and they still do but they advertised certain emission numbers that were fictitious and even though these cars were otherwise great they still were forced to buy back or make cash offers to every person that bought one of those models that they failed to or couldn’t deliver on advertised features. I cant see how this is any different.

Not like this hasn’t been covered yet but when you pay, you don’t buy content, you buy access. You can’t see how this is any different because you don’t understand what you paid for.

If you were going to make a legendary, you could have been stockpiling the daily materials all along. It’s supposed to be a journey. People who buy the materials because they can’t wait are gong to pay more, but it actually costs less of you make the materials.

According to gw2efficiency.com the cost of crafting it using mats you’ve gathered and crafting your daily cooldown is 313 gold.

What you’re paying for is convenience (or perhaps impatience).

Lmao how is having to log in daily to craft some mats “a journey”? Besides it’s way more profit just to sell those mats and buy the lover. Let’s not pretend the precursor crafting of the original legendary sets is decent in any way.

No one is arguing it’s decent or if it’s a good or bad journey here, so why start one? It’s a journey, only because that’s the term Anet used to describe it. Maybe you think it’s a crap one … OK. Still, if the OP knows he needs mats from daily log ins, … he should have anticipated it.

Anticipated what? It’s still more expensive. Mats have value too.

Anticipated that if he was crafting a legendary, to collect the daily mats. The expense is no consequence if you are deciding on the crafting route … any player crafting should have has already done the due dilligence to see what they need and the cost.

I’m not at all implying they should try for perfection, in fact the opposite. I think they should leave it as it is because there isn’t a point in tweaking it in the first place; any claim it’s broken is just a subjective opinion and everyone’s opinion is different.

You’re assuming that AB reawrds was INTENDED to be inline other events/maps, etc… but that’s easy to see it isn’t because its meta ends in access to dozens of chests to open with a few even guaranteeing Rares; no other HoT map does that … no, it’s very clear to me that any assumption that AB should be inline with other metas is false, so any claim AB should be fixed to even out it’s loot with other meta’s in HoT is nonsensical.

You don’t need to recall it, it’s not related at all to my point. One could argue quite easily that a noob in Caledon Forest struggles MUCH more than a fully equipped player in Cursed Shore.

So again, this goes directly to my point, being very simple … defining what is ‘reasonable effort for rewards’ is very subjective and nonsensical even, considering the structure of the business that belies the game itself. Therefore, any definition decided by players to justify a nerf in AB is equally subjective and nonsense.

Even if you don’t buy that, you still can’t explain why it’s been OK for SW to dole out loot to people for so long, but why suddenly, it’s completely unacceptable for AB to do so as well.

So you see, if you understand these points, then I can only conclude that people simply want nerfs because … jealous. Any allusion to ‘fairness’ or ‘equality’ is simply a thinly veiled attempt to disguise jealous motives, especially in a fundamentally unfair and unequal environment as an MMO.

That still doesn’t make sense … there is ALWAYS some mode in the game that is at a gold disadvantage, so that’s not a compelling reason to change this at all. I mean, no one ever went “Oh jeez, we need to nerf SW because when I’m in Caledon Forest, I’m at a gold disadvantage”. If it hasn’t been a problem for the last 4 years in other zones, then it’s not the reason it’s a problem here.

If AB multimap provides appropriate rewards, then they absolutely need to increase the rewards of the other available meta events to match or slightly exceed that of AB. However, if they did this without closing the multimap exploit, players would likely switch over to a different meta as it would be easier to gain greater rewards by completing one meta than by setting up the multimap train.

So, yes, I agree. They should fix the exploit and increase rewards on the other meta events to appropriately reflect effort vs. reward.

But why do they need to do that? It’s certainly not because AB offers the highest rewards during loot phase … because there is always a highest rewards during loot phase somewhere in the game. If it’s not AB, it’s somewhere else.

I think it’s a bit of a fallacy … appropriately reflect effort vs. reward. Ideally, sure but Anet isn’t attempting a Utopian MMO here. I think defining ‘effort’ is a really vague notion … do the people loot MM not make the effort to get keys and unlock the chests? I would say they do … I think it’s pretty naive to think we can reasonably define what effort is, and then judge whether it’s appropriate or not for the reward, then decide that correlation is THE driving force that the game is developed around in the first place. That’s assuming quite a few things about how Anet thinks of the game that aren’t necessarily true.

You really have to ask yourself if it’s such a destructive force in the game that Anet should push resources to change it anyways … certainly not because of some notion that it’s not a fair effort vs. reward. I mean … I can BUY gold with my RL money, and you’re going to talk about effort vs. rewards that aren’t reasonable giving items that I can purchase with that money-bought-through-gems gold? I don’t think you understand the business model this game works on if that’s your belief.

In otherwords, the class people play should not depend on how they hear those classes perform. If you’re just PVEing stuff, any class can work.
