Technically, Destiny’s Edge’s story isn’t in the personal story but the dungeon stories. Though the same effect holds more or less. But it’s still a loop hole that could be considered.

It’s not just dungeon.
There's this part about Destiny's Edge being irreconcilable in the personal story. And then of course the dungeon stories take that up.

Yes. But the thing is, unless there are two or more of Destiny’s Edge together, that doesn’t matter. Logan, on his own, is the same before and after the dungeon/personal stories. Logan + Rytlock together would be different; which is why they’ve avoided that.

AoE Loot 'Search' Dialog

The new AoE loot option is awesome, don’t get me wrong. This is just a suggestion to improve the convenience. I think it would be helpful if the yellow ‘Search’ dialog popped up if there were any loot bags within the AoE radius. So that instead of spamming the interact or Aoe loot key every so often in large fights, you would know when there is loot and when to press the key. It’s not a major issue, but it would be nice.

If there were another interact within its own range (Revive, Talk, etc), they could keep that as having precedence. Or have a separate new dialog for loot in the AoE radius.

Noooo! An AC (that doesn’t require LoS) is getting hit by a skill that doesn’t require LoS!

It’s an otherwise useless skill in PvP, that goes some way to avoiding the escalating siege wars that pervade WvW. And the ‘bug’ has been well-known since, like, September. I think Anet could have ‘fixed’ it by now if they thought it was broken.

And for similar reasons, we can rule out Mister E being an Asura (too small to grab a human and hold a blade to her throat), a Norn (Marjory would know at once because their build is so much bigger than a human’s) or a Sylvari (planty appendages). That leaves him as being human.

Double-Teaming ruins WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

There are two types of ‘double-teaming’. The first is when two servers find it most useful to both attack the third, while leaving each other alone. There can be any number of reasons for this: that server is weakest at the time; they want to flip upgrades on certain keeps/towers; that server has too much ppt; or, quite commonly, just because they can see that the other (of the two servers) is attacking the third server, so they know it’s a good time for them to do so as well. This sort of double-teaming is, I think, very much what was intended in WvWvW.

The other sort of double-teaming involves communication between two servers. It can potentially be organised and involve coordination. This sort of double-teaming is rather more controversial. I, personally, am against it.

The problem, of course, is that, unless you have some evidence of communication, it’s very hard to tell whether the double-teaming that is going on is the first type or the second type. I’ve noticed a tendency for people to assume that it’s the second.

This is not true,
They have mostly followed that line so far, but it is stated that in the timeline of events, the first southsun cove event takes place AFTER the defeat of Zhaitan.

Where does it say that, though? I’m happy to be proven wrong, but I don’t recall ever reading that.

Worst case scenario: it’s Trahearne.

Same thing applies to Trahearne and Tybalt as to what I said about Demmi Beetlestone before. They can’t write them into the living story, because it has to be independent of the personal story. Depending on where you are in personal story, Trahearne might be a) completely unknown to you; b) a random Sylvari with self-confidence issues who is helping you; c) a random Sylvari with knowledge of the Risen who is helping out during and after Claw Island; d) the leader of the Pact trying to take down Zhaitan; or e) the leader of the Pact who has stunningly achieved victory over Zhaitan. Anet is not going to go to the trouble of making sure someone like Trahearne can be written in as an anonymous benefactor here, and still fit in with personal stories at every possible stage they could be at.

The same applies to Eir Stegalking though, who has in fact been a part of the Flame & Frost living story. But I think by & large you are right. It’s kinda striking how they keep all these characters from the personal story out of the living story as much as possible.

Ahhh, but does it? Eir is present in the personal story, yes… but what actually happens to her? How does her situation change throughout it? Is there anything at all that is different about her at the end of personal story, as at the beginning of it? That’s why they can have Eir and Logan and Rytlock in the living story, because the most character development they get is in their relationships with the other members of Destiny’s Edge, and it’s easy enough to keep that out of the living story.

On the one hand, it is a cool cutscene. On the other hand, it wasn’t so good, and (considering youtube and everything) I didn’t need it again so badly that I value an item that shows just this one cutscene so highly that it seems like a good final reward for this little storyline.

If they did something more interesting… like an item which cumulatively stores all living story cutscenes, that would be ok. As is… we’re potentially looking at a new single-scene journal item every month.

Olvendred.3027

Sincere question: Is that so?
I haven’t played the Order of Whispers storyline yet, but my girlfriend has and from what I remember of it, you only meet Demmi briefly, as in you rescue her from pirates, then protect her from her father’s henchmen in two or three missions and then leave her under the protection of the Order. Does she ever re-appear after that?

I think she appears at the victory celebration as well. But you spend enough time with her for the two of you to be very familiar with each other.

If you are asked to rescue Demmi and protect her, and then take her to a secret order… how can she still be unsure whether you may or may not know her? You saved her life and brought her into hiding! You are probably one of the few people on the planet that does know her and where she is hiding.

If it is someone in certain personal storylines, I imagine they just said ‘may’ so they could just send one message to everyone, rather than going to the bother of making sure to send one message to those who did do that story, and a slightly different message to everyone else.

That said, I don’t think it’s Demmi Beetlestone, for the simple reason that Anet has been trying to make sure, so far, that the timing of the personal story and of the living story don’t conflict. Ie. if someone has not got as far as the Demmi missions in personal story (or worse, they’re partway through them), it’s going to destroy their sense of the story for her to have suddenly ‘already been a member of the OoW for ages’.

This objection doesn’t apply to Logan, cause he’s just going around being Seraph Captain. Same with Countess Anise, btw.

Oh, yeah you’re right about Ashford. For some reason up until now I didn’t even realise we had two dead people. I always thought that Ashford and the Charr were one and the same murder we’re investigating. Then again, the letter we received stated that Captain Ashford has “succumbed to his wounds”, so he wasn’t actually killed and might have been colatteral damage, which unfortuantely (for Caudecus) has caused Logan to get involved in the story,
On the other hand, however, Logan does say quite decidedly: “There’s been a murder. Lion’s Arch councilor Theo Ashford is dead”.

This is all so confusing.

Don’t get too involved in semantics. Even if they didn’t intend to kill Ashford (feel free to place emphasis either on ‘kill’ or ‘Ashford’), it would still count as murder in any real world jurisdiction. Certainly succumbing to his wounds at a later time doesn’t make it any less a murder.

You do have a point that if Ashford wasn’t supposed to die, Logan’s involvement might be an unfortunate turn of events for whoever did it… on the other hand, nothing so far would have happened differently if Logan weren’t involved.

Alternatively, make them an equalising measure. That is, any server can hold the orb, but if your server is leading in points by, say, 25%… the nature of the buffs changes from getting points to getting MF and karma (or it always gives MF/karma/xp; but if you’re leading that much, you stop getting the points). There’s still the motivation to keep them out of the hands of the lower servers, to stop them getting points… but it doesn’t lead to an increase in the all-out domination fest.

That’s nice and all but I’m referring to the size of the weapons. The rifle/shotguns are extremely small and unimpressive. I do agree that the design of some of them are amazing like the kodan rifle, but that’s overshadowed by their size. Hence the Charrzookas price point.

It makes a certain amount of sense (though the fact that longer rifles like the Charrzooka do exist renders my argument moot, admittedly): if you’re being attacked by a melee mob standing right in front of you, you can still hit it… with a long rifle, you’re hitting it even though the muzzle is sticking out on the other side of the mob.

Stop thinking of GW2 like other MMO’s. You don’t feel like doing your daily? Then don’t. There’s no monthly sub, so you can play as little or as much as you want. If you think you’ve played enough to get your moneys worth out of the original buy price, then any more time you spend playing and enjoying yourself is an extra bonus. But there’s literally no reason you have to log in and play. You can take a break as long as you like, and everything you have will just be there again, waiting for you, when you feel like it.

You’re getting bored of dragon events or CoF? Don’t do them. People complain that they’ve basically got all the things they want… then spend all their time trying to farm gold as efficiently as possible. As others in the thread have said, find a group of friends who enjoy doing the same stuff as you; or else vary things up a bit. If you think you need gold for a legendary just because everyone else wants a legendary then you’re doing it wrong.

You don’t need gem-store or limited time skins to look good, anyway. Look around at all the available options (there are a lot of these), mix and match your armour skins and make a unique look for your toon, instead of thinking that ‘new’ and ‘rare’ automatically equal ‘good’.

(Pre-empting possible criticism: yes, the game does need more skins generally, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a hell of a lot out of what’s already there.)

Basically, with your first suggestion, you want a return to culling. But with the added bonus of making it hard to see even those enemies whose models have rendered (at different distances, of course, based on each individual’s graphics options). We can call it ‘Culling+’.

Somehow I have difficulty seeing this getting a lot of support from the wider community.

Turn your settings down or buy a better computer.

Why should you be able to tell who is even in the distance? This idea is about realism.

You may be talking about realism, but, as I said, I think you’ll find more players are interested in playability, and not being disadvantaged because they have an inferior system to someone else. There were months of complaint and effort before culling was removed, it seems unlikely they’d bring it back, but worse.

I’m not saying it’s not a nice thought for an ideal world, it’s just utterly impractical.

Hai Dius!

Personally i’d give a boon duration debuff to groups of 30+. Its not going to hurt pug zergs all that much, it will hurt zerg guilds though. Once the group hits 50+ can basically remove boons, hopefully will put people off running in them size groups or if they continue doing so, they’ll make themselves an easy target

I’m not sure penalising the battle part is right. If you take a analogy I used few post up, a company of 100 (1% of share on profit) will be less risk and will have the expertise of 100 – they not going to cut one arm off just because they competing against B (company ruled by 1 person). That’s a why a share of profit (WXP, Karma, loot) is more fair way of catering to all players and ENTICE some to try something different (take more risks, run in smaller teams) or just go for the safety and small returns of huge numbers.

Yours wouldn’t be a particularly desirable system either, though. We know large groups are the most effective playstyle, that’s why they’re used so much. If it were just mindless idiots (as a lot of people seem to think), that would be one thing. But the large, organised guilds in the top tiers consciously choose to run mostly in large numbers rather than splitting up into lots of small groups. I’m reasonably sure they wouldn’t all do this if it were a less effective style of gameplay. So, if you have a reward system for wxp, karma and loot based on the number of people around, you’re basically forcing everyone to make a choice between a) being most useful to their server, and b) getting personal rewards for themselves. I honestly don’t know which way guilds would go with that; but nonetheless, it would merely incentivise playing WvW badly.

Any penalty system, whether to rewards or stats, is going to be untenable, though. There are some things, like taking a T3, WP’d keep (esp hills), with defenders and siege inside, that absolutely require you to use a large group of players. Capping keeps and resetting upgrades has to be one of the most important priorities in the game, yet some people in this thread would have the players who actually do something useful like that be ridiculously penalised for it. Whereas they’d be quite happy for a lone roamer who caps a sentry or camp, and doesn’t even hold it for the tick, get massive rewards/benefits.

You’re putting the cart before the horse.

Does this seem reasonable to you?

Not really, no. However, if potentially far greater electric shocks are a certainty to be administered anyway, and there’s a chance that with pressing Button A you’ll stop them, then we might have a scenario vaguely similar to retal in wvw.

If a zerg has retaliation up 100% of the time, then the choice you would choose is “run away”, yes?

For ele, the key things are: a) knowing all 20 of your skills, how they work, and when to use them; b) having a key bind setup that allows you to easily change attunements. For the latter, I had huge trouble in beta, and spent most of my time in fire attunement. Specially bought a Logitech g600 mouse to compensate, and that made all the difference. I’m not saying you have to do that, but you do need some sort of system where you’re not trying to move, use all your abilities and change attunements with the same 4 fingers, all at the same time.

But honestly, I think the OP’s problems are coming from gear and downscaling, as people have said. They did change the equations so that downscaled characters are slightly weaker than they were at launch, so that zone lower than your level can still be somewhat challenging.

WvWvW night caping

Olvendred.3027

Wow! It’s just like the first months after launch again. Ahh, that QQ nostalgia…

Regarding that i had an idea (i haven’t been following forums much so someone might have posted something similar before without me knowing). So lets say towers, keeps and camps, don’t start giving full points right upon capture, but let them have a potential total of points which are given if some conditions are met (i would say, time and upgrades, would be good ones for start). So let me make an example: lets say a camp has 5 total potential points, but at capture you are just getting one. to get the other points you have to hold the camp for an hour and an upgrade for each additional point (1hour+1upgrade=2 points, 2hours+2upgrades=3 points and so on). The same could be applied to towers and keeps, even with slight modifications.
What could be achieved by doing this? well for starters it would stop zergs going trough a map , and just moove the zerg to the next map upon completation of the first, but force them to defend if they want to start getting big points. Second, even if not completely preventing it, it could make the burden of night caping less painfull , cause the points gained from the few hours people are sleeping wouldn’t be so radical as they are now.
Also i wouldn’t call it points but influence that a certain camp, tower or keep has on the map.

It would probably not make any difference to the playstyle of an organised server, and certainly would have nothing to do with so-called night capping. The problem with your idea is that the object of the game is to have more points than the enemy. So, you might want to focus on getting your own points fully upgraded and held for a long time; but it’s equally valuable to make sure your enemy doesn’t get their points fully upgraded and held for a long time. If anything, the latter would become more important than it is in the current meta. So yeah, no real changes, and not in the direction you seem to want.

Waypoints too easy to contest

in WvW

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

I’d have it as, a gate or wall needs to take a certain percentage of damage within a period of, say 15s, for the objective to become contested. And that damage would be about .5%-1% (5-10% is wayyy too high, for obvious reasons). It can’t be “siege weapons hitting” because, as the last couple of days have shown, you don’t need siege weapons to take down a paper gate.

The problem on the other side, of course, is what happens if you breach the outer wall of a WP’d keep… but then have to spend a few minutes fighting players before you can lay down siege to hit gates or walls? This isn’t exactly uncommon. It basically means the keep will go uncontested, and the enemy will be allowed to freely WP back inside, and no real way for the attackers to re-contest, except (unnecessarily) dropping siege and occupying a lot of players/supply to damage more of outer.

There is only -one- Legendary with lore behind it and that is The Flameseeker Prophecies, every other Legendary got pretty much nothing behind them, and they all spawn from the mysic toilet.

That is a good point, if you want to make it more memorable. Instead of just going to the mystic forge in LA, for the final making you could have each legendary have a specific forge-point hidden away in the world somewhere, and you have to take the components there to forge it, and get a little (but hopefully epic) cutscene.

This is why they brought out two of the newer bounty targets: the rat guy and the tree guy. You can’t just follow a path and find the single NPC on the map, you have to keep checking rats and trees randomly spread out across the entire map to find them. For the others, they ARE so easy to find, assuming you have enough players to search the map, that your really don’t need to know the path. Especially since some guilds track them down in advance.

Rush guides can help a bit, but it really comes down to doing it. Same with Challenge: all the guide does is explain your objective and mechanics better than the in-game hint; how you actually achieve it within your guild is a matter of organisation and skill. I think Puzzle is most comparable to WoW raids: there’s a set sequence of events and ways to do things, which you kinda have to follow to succeed. And then you have to be able to actually do those things successfully.

As for Trek, there are lower tiers. I doubt it’s even possible to fail a T1 Trek, even without a guide. For a T3, unless you have a seriously massive guild, it’d be a lot harder with no guide. And of course there are Trek locations inside jumping puzzles, so you sometimes do require some skill. Also note the rewards: Trek gives no commendations and the least merits, even for a T3, while Challenge and Puzzle, that require organisation and skill, give the most. I think the balance is fine.

That if you die in a room, you can checkpoint to the next room once it’s been cleared: there’s already a relatively similar system in place for the Forsaken Fortune mini-dungeon in Dredgehaunt Cliffs, or indeed if you die in Guild Rush. Keep it to the people who entered at the start though, so you can’t just rock up and breeze through the whole thing.

It would basically just suck if you’re the one guy who dies in an annoying place, or who DC’s, and then can’t progress.

More likely, if you’re on your home BLs, there’s a heap of players akitten or hanging around in citadel for no reason, who are increasing your player count enough to avoid outmanned.

I doubt it has anything to do with BG’s presence… probably just coincidence if you noticed that.

You’d need to run 10,000 supply to get just one world rank. It’s a nice, small addition to wxp that will help you a bit over time, but it’s not farmable.

Well… except for the wxp/xp/karma you get from defend events, which you can get bronze in by dropping 4 supply into a wall. But some people farmed those long, long before wxp even existed.

They appear in this case because you don’t “kill” a lot of the enemies in the Southsun events. They get to 0 health, then turn green and kind walk away/disappear.

Problem with riddles is that within 24 hours you’d be able to just look up the answers. Puzzles… well, we have those already, with jumping and mini-dungeons.

I actually like the idea, but you’d need to have some sort of compelling and repeatable content in it.

Half Baked Komali?

I’ve had Komali a few times, and never seen any flame jellies. Not sure whether that is true or not. Our general strategy has been to apply a CC from someone with boon removal (has to be both) when he’s out of defiant, and this tends to work.

Beyond that, I’ve had the best luck killing him with medium sized groups,. Just like any other event boss, he stacks with the more players that are around, so trying to zerg through the fire shield just makes it more difficult for you.
