It’s only open to the US, Canada and Europe (possibly the EU? Russia isn’t listed). So the entirety of Central and South America, Africa and Asia are excluded as well. Australia isn’t being singled out or anything.

Edit: Just to confirm, the European nations listed are the members of the EU. No more, no less.

Specializations and Traits in HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Olvendred.3027

I was not expecting such extensive changes. While change is, of course, inherently evil, I am feeling cautiously optimistic about these.

My main concern is about old skill points, and what MF crafting mats they’re going to be turned into (and on what basis).

The other question I have is about Hero points, and whether there’s any possibility at all of a fully-unlocked character (in terms of skills and traits) losing any of their abilities. If, for instance, the character hasn’t done all the hero challenges (since points are strictly available and strictly limited). The article doesn’t say so explicitly, so a confirmation would be reassuring.

Communication Issues.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Olvendred.3027

But communication is not simply talking. It requires understanding who is being communicated to, what needs to be said, and how it needs to be said. Failing any of these aspects often means the message is lost.

This part is especially relevant for these forums. Considering only a small portion of the game’s player-base have ever used them (let alone regularly), and, even if there were a good search function, the majority of dev posts would still be very quickly buried and forgotten. The same applies to reddit.

The vast majority of the playerbase (and potential playerbase) isn’t involved in the hype, they don’t keep tabs on how fast information is released, they aren’t even aware of the waves of negativity about Anet’s failure to communicate.

This article, and concerns in this thread about how Anet’s policy isn’t wise, only apply to a select subset of players.

Why did they remove undiscovered skill points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

Does it matter? It’s the same has how all the other map completion elements work: you have to unfog the map to see them.

Lol, yeah. It really hinders the desire to adventure and see new things to get to said skill point, something I thought Anet really emphasized with development of their zones. I find it disturbing to see the sheer amount of really amazing areas in zones with no incentive to go there outside of overwhelming boredom.

This would have the opposite effect, though. If you can see exactly what you need, you’re more likely to go directly there from the closest waypoint by the shortest route. The thing that would most promote exploration would be to have no map-completion elements visible on the map at all ever (not that I am advocating this).

Kicking is rarely an actionable offense. People can kick from a party for all sorts of legitimate reasons (at least according to the rules, whatever you may think morally), and many of those aren’t easy/possible to tell from the game logs. Anet is usually only only going to take action against someone with a confirmable record of griefing by kicking.

Dailies are still no good

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

They were fun to me as a dedicated PvEer. I went to a map I wanted to do dailies on, that was level appropriate, and did them as part of what I did while playing PvE. I did the events with whoever came across them, harvested nodes, dodged attacks and rezed NPCs. I was still filling in the checklist but it was a natural part of my playing experience and I was enjoying myself while doing it.

The difference is that the old dailies flowed organically out of how I played. Now its a series of disjointed tasks that have to be checked off before I can start to have fun.

As I see it, you were having fun playing how you play. You still have fun playing how you play. The old dailies and the new dailies are neither here nor there in this analysis – the dailies were never the fun.

As I said earlier in the thread, dailies have never been about fun for anyone, they’ve always been about rewards. Which were previously gained for little-to-no extra effort. Now the no-effort rewards have been moved to log-in rewards, the new dailies are there for extra rewards if you want to do them. Which you are certainly under no obligation to, nor should you, if you don’t like doing them.

Dailies are still no good

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

Dailies are ridiculously easy to finish every day, if you’re not willing to put in 20-minutes of low effort for 10 AP then you don’t deserve it. But that’s true of every single reward in the game. If you don’t want to do the work, you don’t get the reward, and you really shouldn’t get to complain about it either. Who actually cares if you don’t like the dailies? Nobody is making you do them or not. It’s entirely your choice.

You notice how you didn’t say anything about fun, in a video game played for entertainment?

To me, the difference is I used to get them by playing and enjoying what I was doing and now it’s work, effort, like you pointed out. It’s a chore to do instead of getting them while enjoying what I’m doing. This is a decrease in my enjoyment of the game and very worth complaining about.

All we are asking is making the PvE dailies less super specific. A region, not a map for events, for example.

How would regional dailies be fun, though? At most, you’re talking about degrees of unfun (negative fun? Anti-fun? Pick a word that’s the opposite of fun). Dailies have never been fun.

The bug, which granted HoM rewards to people who weren’t supposed to have them, was fixed very quickly. What Anet has to do is remove those from only those players, without causing any other problems. This is not as easy as it sounds, so they’re taking the time to (hopefully) do it right. Rewards are disabled in the meantime.

But don’t try to change something that 99% of the GW2 population are enjoying.

I doubt 99% of GW2 population are bothering with doing the dailies. And of those that are doing the dailies I doubt even 75% enjoy the new system over the old much less 99%. So of the total gw2 population a doubt that even 50% are enjoying the new dailies.

Were there people who enjoyed doing the old dailies?

Read this thread to find out.

Be sure to answer this question very specifically… not enjoying playing and getting the dailies on the way, but actually enjoying the task of “Inflict 20 conditions,” or the others.

That is a perfectly valid way to enjoy getting dailies. That is the way PvPers and WvWers are doing it now. PvEers used to be able to with the previous dailies but now tasks are too specific.

That is not enjoying doing the old dailies. That is enjoying playing the game, and getting extra rewards for doing nothing extra. I am not surprised people enjoy getting extra rewards for doing nothing extra.

Luckily, they brought in the log-in rewards, so you get your extra rewards for doing nothing at all. It just so happens that a single extra reward, AP, now requires you to do a small something extra each day.

Oh, and neither PvP nor WvW players (or rather, people who only play one of those game modes) get their dailies automatically from doing anything. PvP players need to play a specific class. WvW players need to do specific things that are not part of every playstyle, nor are they possible on every map, nor are they always likely to happen in a play session.

tl;dr – Guilds have every right to ask you to leave. You are perfectly able to do so or not as you choose, and there is nothing they can do to force you. It really comes down to how you feel you should treat peoples’ requests in the circumstances. If they get abusive, of course, you can report them.

Food for thought, though: the game makes it a lot harder to exclude people than to include them.

i just thought it was better when it was a casual affair. log in, cut some trees, mine some nodes.. complete your daily wherever you are in the world. I think this was better than having a boss daily, where i have to look up the times and hope its soon. Or have to play a class i dont want to play in pvp. dailies before felt better and complimented the game style more. i would like to log in and play a bit, not look at a check list and follow a meta.

It still is casual. You log in, get tons of rewards.

If you want even more rewards, or 10 AP, you have to go and do specific things. But I very much doubt you were getting 10 AP every day before, so feel free to ignore them half the time, and you won’t even be losing out on AP.

There’s not really a lot in it. Except for mesmer and guardian which can’t move quite so quickly, all the rest would be more or less equal. Doing map completion fast depends mostly on the player’s knowledge of routes to take and how to complete hearts quickly, etc, not on what class you’re using.

You need to look at the type of Infusion slot on each piece of gear. Some will be Offensive, others Defensive, your amulet may have a Utility infusion. You can only slot an infusion of the same type into that slot – only an offensive infusion will go into an offensive infusion slot, and so on. Precision infusions are offensive, so you won’t be able to put them in gear that has a Defensive infusion slot.

I say ‘only’, but there is an exception, if you want to pay even more. There are Omni Infusions, which can go into any type of infusion slot, and are according a lot more expensive. So you could get precision infusions on all your gear that way, if you really wanted.

Can someone explain Finishers to me?

in Players Helping Players

There are skills that create AoE combo fields, of various types. There are other skills, called finishers, that you can use within/through a combo field to get an extra effect (depending on the type of finisher and the type of field). For instance, if you use a Blast Finisher in a Fire field, you give yourself and nearby allies three stacks of Might (a boon that increases damage).

You can read all about it on the wiki:

Joe went from giving the game a 10 rating to not playing at all for 2 years. That speaks louder than anything that was said in the interview.

Joe did the interview because it was good for Joe. He was coridial and polite because the interview was good for him to get. He did ask a few good questions. This was not Angry Joe though. He held back a lot. This was a plug for Anet’s new expansion.

I’m sure there were tons more questions he would have liked to ask. I’d like to ask Joe some questions:

What broke the game for you?

What made the game go from a 10 rating to a 2 year absence?

I mean, sure. You could get his opinion. But, like, why do you care? You’ve actually played the game yourself, presumably at some length. You should have been able to form your own opinions by now. Reviews are only useful if you haven’t done that for yourself yet.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

I’m sick and tired of being harassed by gold sellers whenever I get on my alt account or whenever I make a new character. The record that they hold is 5 pms – that’s 5 lots of 6 lines of text – in 2 minutes.

My suggestion to counteract this is adding a feature that only allows people on your friends list (not followers, but only friends) to pm you. Whether this be a new option added to the status choices (friends only, perhaps?), or whether it be an option that you can check in the options menu.

To anyone who feels the need to say “block and ignore”, I do. Every single time, pretty much immediately after the pm. These are different accounts messaging me the same thing, and instead of being reactive, I want the option to be proactive and stop them before the harassment begins.

Please Anet, I’ve been so very close to having panic attacks over this. It’s harassment and the only thing I can do to stop it is to appear offline, but appearing offline doesn’t let you talk in guild chat – which is half the reason I log in to gw2.

Make a chat tab without whispers, and use that.

Olvendred.3027

@Caedmon , try to use your brain on this one. If fighting on a point, you can delay enemy point capture by using downed skills(preventing yourself from being stomped).

Although stealthing/mistform doesnt prevent it 100%, it forces your enemy to sit there and have to autoattack you or perform the stomp again. but this example only applies to points that you own/are uncapped.

As what someone else in this thread said, doing extra damage is always a bonus, even if it’s minimum.

I’m talking about the pointless situations where they’re just delaying their own death and increasing the time they can get respawned since there is No player near or coming towards that person. If you think delaying your own death when there is no way of getiing up again is a valid strategy…then use that Brain and go for it..

@Ross,please read…

If they’re in the middle of nowhere, and you’re hanging around dragging out their death… yes, it’s longer before they respawn, but they’re also keeping you from doing anything as well.

Dont see how its hard to spam 2 buttons

No, but picture this scenario: you are in wvw/eotm during a zerg fight, there are downed people everywhere, both allies and enemies, and maybe some herbs to be gathered. Now, what happens when you press the F key to loot all while moving? Do you think it’s maybe possible to get run past a downed player or another interactive object and have the option to interact with it immediately supercede the loot all option? And there you are, reviving or stomping or gathering mats when you just wanted to loot and move on to the killing. This happens literally every time in a zerg fight and it’s annoying to no end.

Either bind AoE loot to a different key, or put AoE loot as F and bind Interact to a different key. It’s not difficult.

OP says it doesn’t unlock until higher level, but PvP actually gets unlocked at lvl 3 which is roughly after doing your starter area and completing 1 heart in your starter zone. I think that’s not a big issue.

Where you said, “PvP actually gets unlocked at lvl 3 which is roughly after doing your starter area and completing 1 heart in your starter zone” This isn’t true. While you can run a new char on a new account to the portal in LA and access PvP that way at any level, the first time the UI unlocks without doing that is level 22.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-fresh-start-the-new-player-experience-in-guild-wars-2/

That must have changed (probably due to player complaints), because I just got a 2nd account (on NA since my main account is on EU) and I have only 1 character on there. Thus there’s no veteran experience to go with, to GW2 I’m as fresh a player as can be…
Already at level 3 (or was it 4) I could bring up the PvP menu and Enter the Mists and queue up for games.
I remember because I did it on Monday this week! I remember because I wasn’t even level 10, which meant I could not equip a helmet, and that meant I didn’t want to go into Ranked arena because I’m not going in at a disadvantage to my team and myself.

You don’t need a helmet in PvP. It’ll pretend you do and add in the stats anyway. You only need to be wearing chest, legs and shoes (of any level, of course).

I’m not picking on just you here, but half of the complaints about the NPE are caused entirely by misinformation. Actually, I’m not picking on you at all, because the merge of PvP/PvE gear wasn’t part of the NPE. But whatever.

Jumping on different races isn’t actually more difficult or easy. It’s simply a question of what you’re used to. I’ve known a lot of people who say doing JPs on Asura is “easy mode” – I fall off things way more often as an Asura than I do as anything else, because I’m much more used to jumping on a bigger character, so I tend to over-adjust.

Practice doing a lot of jumping on Charr, and you’ll soon become a natural. Unless you generally have trouble with jumping no matter how hard you try (which I understand some people do, for various reasons).
