Teeny Tiny Expansion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Olvendred.3027

What a normal expansion gives:
- 2 or more new classes
- a complete continent of new zones
- 1 or more new races
- 5+ new dungeons
- several new pvp/rvr maps
- several new game modes
- several raids
- a huge amount of new skins accessible through game
- a huge amount of new skills

Has any expansion ever given all of that?

My eyes were confused.

Meh. They look sufficiently original to me. You’re picking on “2 sets of curved horns” and “vague broad-headed insect design” as plagiarism. There are probably hundreds of games/movies/tvshows/drawings with similar stuff in one way or another. Not to mention, like, nature.

I suggest you go take a turn around tvtropes, and get upset how everybody is “stealing” stuff from everyone else.

I found the fight and its mechanics very intuitive.

But in other games, I’ve occasionally come across things where I’ve had absolutely no idea what to do, tried everything I could think of, looked it up, and realised it was pretty obvious what I should have been doing. I don’t see this as a design flaw in the game, most of the time. I see it as me having a bad day mentally, and missing the cues I was provided.

So I sympathise that the OP had a frustrating experience, but I think the game did enough to guide the player through the fight, but without becoming a stilted step-by-step walkthrough.

Yes, but you can`t do all LS1 quests

Exactly. LS1 you can’t play, unless you were in game for the 2 weeks when those episodes happened. Your friends cannot play LS1. Unless Anet finds a way to change them so that they can be released, your friends will never be able to play LS1.

When LS2 came around, Anet made a design change. Instead of having content that is there for 2 weeks, and then never able to be played again, they made content that is there for 2 weeks, and purchasable afterwards. Well, some of it. They also released huge chunks of open-world content that are there forever for anyone who owns the game.

As for your friends, if they are uninstalling the game after 2 days for their inability to access a fairly small amount of content they won’t be able to play for a long time, and which comes after the entirety of the base game from launch and most content added after launch… then they’re probably as temperamental and rude as you are, so I’m not really feeling much regret that they’re not around anymore.

You can complete dungeons even in Nomad’s. But who among the veterans will want to complete it with you when they can get an efficient party? Calmly AFKing waiting for a proper party for a smooth run is not that rare; at some point you agree to spend time to wait just to avoid the annoyance of playing with how-I-wants.

If that’s your attitude, then yeah, you’ll have problems. It’s not the attitude of a large portion of the population, though, as evidenced in threads on gear checks, for example. People without HoT will definitely still be able to find groups for dungeons.

Will they also update the old maps with HoT?

If you’re in a party, and one of the party member’s starts a dungeon, then that window will pop up for all other members of the party (that are in the correct open world zone).

It’ll also pop up if you join a party with member(s) in the dungeon (while you are in the correct open world zone), or if you zone into the open world zone while party member(s) are in a dungeon.

Gold seller spam

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

They block them as soon as they are reported. What more can they do? It is not their fault that accounts got compromised.

No they don’t and that is the problem. Three times in the last week when I was in DR doing some banking and selling stuff I was being spammed by the same gold seller once a minute. I would report him each time, but nothing stopped. This went on for 1/2 hour with a total of 30 reports every day it happened. If the same spammer can show up and harass me for three days in a row then from my perspective they are doing nothing to stop it.

So going off internet speak, 3 times means within the same 1/2 hour. Report then block. You never hear from them again. Just because you report an action is not immediate. Try to step up and take action rather than putting blame where it does not belong.

Sorry, I typed the wrong word, I meant three days not times. Each day I was spammed around 30 times. It was the same account all three days that was harassing me. I was curious as to how long it would take them to do something about a spam report so that’s why I didn’t block the account On the fourth day I didn’t get any spam, so I assumed the account was shut down, but today I got spammed by the same account again so I blocked it and skipped the report.

Like I said before, when an account is allowed to continue spamming over multiple days, from my perspective they are doing nothing about it

Are you absolutely certain it was the same account? Most gold-seller accounts and characters are random strings of letters, which means it’s very difficult to tell them apart by memory alone. I very much doubt it was the same account on all four days.

I've redesigned the UI & the official website

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

Thanks for commenting, regarding your clutter issues and the fact that new players would be instantly be “thrown” into a lot of information is a valid statement. However please note that as stated in the document, some features would be hidden as in not visible till they reach a certain level.

For example the order would appear at level 35 I think, where you have to join an order, the crafting would be displayed at a certain level and so on. This way users would start with a UI that’s really basic at the early levels and tabs/slots would be revealed as they level up, similar to the current feature unlocks. Thus the design showcases it at level 80 when everything is unlocked.

For players who think it’s too cluttered or want a more simplistic view, some of the information could be displayed under a tab thus giving users a basic overview and a more detailed overview.

Regarding artwork use, you must understand that there are people who are more visual oriented, who have a visual memory and thus it’s easier for them to remember such things. For new players or existing players, having artwork displayed would help them identify/remember/ put a face to certain characters or generate curiosity/interest for a certain dungeon that they haven’t done before. As the saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words” some people would get an easier understanding that PVP & WvW is for large competitive combat, while an image with a dungeon would make it easier for them to understand it’s something that you do in PVE. Also by using images you are required to read a lot less since you get the general idea from that said image thus the mentioned popular saying.

I am someone who is against level-locking content, in all its forms. What you are suggesting is exactly that, and that’s what ruined the NPE for me and a lot of people, so…no thanks.

On the art thing. I’m fine with artwork. There’s nothing wrong with that. There is a problem with saturating everything with it. There is a problem with clashing against the style that GW2’s menus are in now, and there is a problem with stacking menu on top of menu just to get the most basic things done.

I need to click through 3 menus just to read one entry in your lore journal design, then click back three times, just to read another entry. That’s not intuitive or easy to use in the least. It reminds me of the original FF 14, where you had to click through half a dozen menus just to make a sword, then half a dozen more just to equip the sword, then half a dozen more to accept a quest, invite someone to a party, find a group, etc. I don’t want that in this game.

Your new UI also clashes with the current GW2 style (and even clashes with your Character panel redesign)

Here’s something I was working on several months ago, but never finished (I did finish it somewhat to post a picture). Its a Lore Journal Idea, its UI ripped straight from the Achievement panel design. Not only is everything still neatly divided into several categories, and you can go to different categories at any time to read something else, but there is not 3 back buttons, because its not necessary, you can just click back on the category on the left to go back, or just click on a new one. I also had an idea for clicking on things in the entry itself to lead you to other pages, as well as having a related entries section on the bottom. Best thing is, it doesn’t clash with GW2’s current design/look.

It should probably look more like that instead of a windows 8 operating system. I’m not trying to attack you or try to say your idea sucks, but there most certainly are things in it that sucks and wont work with the current style that GW2 has.

Now this one I like.

Why are you not asking about custom or unranked? Only a small portion of the people who do like PvP actually do ranked. For those who don’t like PvP at all, chances are their only experiences are in “Practice” or unranked.

[Suggestion] Finish totally dead players.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

As others have mentioned above, dead players cease to count for the scaling. After a period of time, the event will detect this and downscale accordingly. The event will do the same if the player WPs and is outside the event radius. For the purposes of scaling, therefore, it makes absolutely no difference if a player stays dead or WPs.

There are only 2 ways in which it does matter. First, respawning. A player kittenpawns and runs back may be able to continue contributing to the event. Obviously, this only works if the WP is close enough that they can get back in time. Second, ressing. If other players stop to res the dead player, those players cease to contribute DPS for the time of reviving. They may also die themselves, if they get caught in damage while reviving.

Do either of these matter? On the first way… Well, more players contributing to DPS is good, but they also are contributing to upscaling. If a player respawns and runs back before the event does its downscaling, then they will have been absent and not contributing, but the event will not downscale. Moreover, a player who goes down a lot, even if not dying, is bad for the event. They’re upscaling, they’re not contributing DPS, and they’re distracting people by making them res them from downed state.

As for the second way… it’s not the fault of the dead player, is it? If 1-5 players stop contributing to revive someone who is dead, then that’s their decision. I frequently see dead players saying “don’t res me yet” if they die near the end of an event.

The OP’s suggestion will never be accepted anyway, as it would simply lead to anger and toxicity when it is used.

It’s especially confusing to old Guild Wars 1 players as the term unique in that game was used for weapons with maximum stats for their level but the game didn’t stop you from equipping more than one at a time. They added the restriction in this game but didn’t add a warning.

Well, you couldn’t have more than one of the same weapon equipped at a time at all, so it’s not really a fair comparison.

You don’t need to buy a “full set” insofar as they all have to be the same set for each tier. You just need to buy one of each each type of armour-piece (foot, gloves, legs, chest, head, shoulders) from each tier.

So you could get T1 heavy feet, T1 medium gloves, T1 medium legs, T1 light chest, T1 heavy head, T1 medium shoulders. And that would do you for T1.

Then you need 1 of each of foot, gloves, legs, chest, head, shoulders from T2, and again one of each from T3.

Pls stop overcompensating for Kormir Syndrome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

There never was any problem with Trahearne. He essentially supreme commander of the Pact… meaning 90% of what he did was paper-work, meetings, diplomacy, and so on. Does anyone really want to RP logistics in an MMO? Anyone excited for Personal Story Chapter 9: “The Pact’s Budget”? Not really, mostly, players want to run around and kill stuff. That means you don’t get to be Marshal.

There was even less problem with Kormir. All she did was become a God. While, yeah, I’m sure a lot of people would have taken the choice had it been offered them, it’s obviously something impossible for the PC to do, in terms of continuing gameplay.

So, yeah. It does sometimes feel like they’ve gone too far in the other direction recently. But only sometimes. Typically, I’m not bothered.

The Wardrobe and "The Emporer" Title

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Olvendred.3027

Olvendred.3027

1) You don’t need to buy all the racial skins to get the title. Only one third of them. While it might be possible to check the game logs to find out exactly which specific pieces each player bought, that would be a massive waste of time.

2) Many other players bought skins and destroyed/lost/sold them prior to the introduction of the wardrobe. These skins might have been very expensive. There’s no reason to give special treatment to certain players who happened to max out a title, and not to all the others.

It’s something that happens with new systems. You got exactly what you paid for at the time, so you haven’t lost anything. You simply failed to gain something extra (the wardrobe unlock), since you chose to destroy/sell the skins instead of keeping them.

Better option : Kill Faolain instead.

Agreed. I realize they are supposed to be lovers and Caithe cares about Faolain greatly but it’s obvious that is the only appropriate option for someone who has a shred of decency. The only excuse I could think of for her actually going through with the murder is if Caithe was certain that she would lose in a fight against Faolain

You’ve obviously never been in love.

The kitten kind of excuse is that?
‘Oh I’m sorry officer-I killed an innocent because I don’t want my friend to know a secret’
‘….You committed a crime’
‘….I know but my genitals were tingling in all the right places for this person’….seriously wtf kind of excuse is that.

You know the funniest thing-I guarantee if this was a hetero relationship and caithe was a) a man, people would (rightfully) say ‘kitten this guy’s a bloody idiot’ or if b) caithe maintained her sex as a woman, people would say ‘gw2 is misogynistic as it portraits women in love as being stupid’…but make it a kitten relationship and all of a sudden it’s a ‘powerful, deep story about love and hard decisions’. All humans are equals…but some humans are more equal than others amiright?

…I think my dinner’s about to come up.

And people are saying because the plot makes no kitten sense and people ask ‘well why didn’t x character do this’ indicates depth? That’s not bloody depth! That’s shoddy writing with a huge amount of illogical developments that insults the audience’s intelligence and people are pointing out said flaws. That’s like saying ‘hey, why didn’t Lockdown hunt down the autobots himself-why did he need the human-US in particular government to help….how did he go about setting up that agreement in the first place…the premise of this movie’s plot makes no sense’-then you go ‘well see because you can ask these questions the movie is a work of art! It has so many levels!’ No……transformers 4 just sucks the only depth the movie has is how deeply it sucks.

The ‘big’ reveal was the sylvari being dragon minions? Yeah that came about 2 years too late-everybody (with sense anyway….apparently the writers don’t think very highly of us) already knew that. This is yet another thing why this game’s world is just …well…insulting. From the first time I played the game and heard-I never played gw1 fyi-that the sylvari can’t be corrupted by zhaitan I thought ‘hmm…..well the ice, crystal and zombie (didn’t know their names at the time) corrupted dragon minions don’t seem to be able to cross-contaminate each other (i.e. in the story/world there’s never been a risen branded or icebrood risen or some wacky combination). Here we have a weird plant race that just popped up and can’t be corrupted…are you sure you’re not a dragon minion of some sort?’ Then later when I watched woodenpotatoes gw1 videos I’m like ‘yeah they’re totally dragon minions’…that was a new player two years ago. Which is why everytime I see a sylvari in the world and everyone treating them normally I think ‘wtf is this-you know nothing about this race. Nobody finds their immunity to zhaitan the least bit strange? Why are you military people following this sylvari! OMG somebody kitten-slap some sense into these people’

Not to mention-did anyone seriously not notice the copy-paste ‘the pact forward base is under attack and will be forced to retreat into the heart of the base where they’ll use some item to turn the tides’ thing from the personal story? Or how about the excessive ego stroking? ‘Well done boss’ ‘Boss you killed that dragon you’re awesome’ ‘Impressive’…..look I already know I’m awesome OK? I don’t need a game to tell me that. Then again people were complaining that the pixels didn’t tell them they were awesome so I can’t fault ANet for that decision….doesn’t mean I like it.

But if this is the sort of thing gamers praise these days….then in the words of tree-man ‘this won’t end well’. I wash my hands of this madness.

Great….the kitten filter will make it sound like I used some ‘homophobic’ (since we like name calling like children) slurr…w/e I don’t care anymore.

Soo…

Everyone in the real world acts “logically”, according to you? You must lead a very sheltered life.

Also, who said it was an excuse?

On the second complaint… you’re ranting because there was a good amount of foreshadowing that allowed people to work things out, if they analysed the clues? Note that NPCs in-game can’t check the forums or watch youtube, which is where you apparently found out about this theory.

Finally, since you’re leaving, can I have your stuff?

If Player B replies, B’s sending animation will be pigeon, and A’s receiving animation will be pigeon.

If A sells on the TP, they will have a sending animation of griffon.

If A gets mail from, eg, the gemstore, they will have a receiving animation of griffon. I believe this is what is meant by “game mail.” Presumably it applies to Personal/Living Story mails, and map completion mails, as well.
