LFG and JPs

What about selling access to ones home instance for gathering resources? Namely I just spotted this new type of selling in lfg just about an hour ago : " Sell access crafting nodes (17) for 20 silver…..->" . Does it belong to the dungeon sort of selling section or is it abusing the lfg due to selling access to “items”?

  • Advertising an access portal is not allowed.
  • Guild Recruitment is not allowed.

Both are unrelated to forming a group and therefore are not part of the intended purpose of the Looking for Group Tool.

That’s not a particularly clear statement at all, though. Given that Gaile specifically quoted a post about selling access to a home instance, it’s unclear whether she was talking about only that (when saying ‘access portal’), or JP ports as well. It would be strange to lump them in together as they are somewhat different.

In any case, the general statement of policy “Our policy: Players may use the LFG Tool only for the formation of a group.” does not preclude using the LFG to form a group to do a JP together, from start to finish. As some posters in this thread seem to think. You can use the LFG tool for anything you like, as long as you are forming a group to do content together.

My personal theory is that Anet probably has a fix in place and ready to go, and have done for years. But they keep putting it off every time someone uses the term ‘hobo sack,’ because it’s just such an annoying expression, and has no real connection to what the thing actually looks like. I have the same theory about Commander functionality and ‘dorito.’

And let’s not forget the actual policy in Russia toward homosexuality… I mean we have a lesbian couple as main characters and we could consider the entire sylvari race as bisexual…

Politics irl have no place in GW2. Agreed mod?

I think he means that it might lead to the game getting banned, shunned, frowned upon and/or getting special age limits. It wouldn’t be the first time, if you look at the Sims 4, for an example, which got a 18+ rating due to possible homosexual content (even though you don’t see anything happening except the jumping in bed). (not saying that Russia is alone in this)

Politics irl have no place in GW2. Agreed mod?

I don’t think you can really say that in this case – politics itself intrudes upon the game. At least as regards the OP’s original post. The laws in Russia would make large parts of the story and the portrayal of multiple characters illegal – i.e. the game in it’s current form would be almost certainly banned. Advertising the game would be ‘promoting’.

Please give me one example of a game that has been banned in russia due to “homosexual propaganda”

Please explain the purpose of this law.

Your argument so far has essentially been: “Well, yes, of course there are discriminatory laws on the books. But since the judicial system and police are so nice and tolerant, they haven’t actually used them to their full extent. So everything’s ok!”

Protip: this is a bad argument.

Did I ever claim that “everything’s ok” or that I agree with the law? No, I was simply pointing out that OP’s prediction that a gw2 localization would be deemed “illegal” is highly improbable to say the least. The rest of my posts have been to educate people making outrageous claims about the legality of homosexuality in russia.

Protip: Your straw man is a logical fallacy. If you don’t know what that is, google is your friend :^)

It’s not a straw man if it accurately summarises what you said.

In any case, since you agree the law could be acted upon at any time, why would any company invest a lot of money into doing something that could get them prosecuted? It’s simply not worth the risk that the Russian government/courts/police will simply turn around and start using the law as it was intended.

Most ascended backpieces are very expensive. That’s a significant part of why the lvl 78 crafted ones were put in: to give a much cheaper way of getting an infusion slot.

Yeah. ANet is “money grabbing”. Too bad ANet is a company and actually needs continuous supply of money to continue functioning – you know, like for server maintenance, employee salary, bills, etc?

And I may have missed the memo that the Nodes they are selling are actually to make dailies convenient.

Sorry if I sound rude, but I am just in awe of this laziness. You must have NOT played other MMO other than GW2.

If an internet service company like Comcast decides to cut your internet speed, put the internet speed you had before in a more expensive plan($4000 increased price), and then you decide to complain. I’ll be there to be “in awe of your laziness,” compare you to some third world country that doesn’t have internet(“You must have not lived in OTHER countries!”), and tell you about “server maintenance, employee salary, bills etc and stuff.”

This is what you sound like.

Anet sold you some gathering nodes for your home instance. You got the gathering nodes. There has been no change in the quality of the gathering nodes. They are exactly the same as when you bought them. If Anet had removed some of the gathering nodes you bought, and required you to pay more to get them back, then your analogy would be apt.

But daily requirement had been increased. So the analogy stands.

I don’t think you read what I said. You’ve still got exactly what you bought. Nothing you bought has anything to do with dailies.

Faolain and Caithe are not a good relationship by any means, but that’s not really important, unless a bad relationship is somehow presented as ideal/desirable. What matters is whether it is compelling in the story, and I think it’s not too bad at that.

Remember, the time we see them together in LS2 is only a couple of occasions, right before they presumably broke up. Caithe was willingly blind to Faolain’s actions for a long time (which again, is not a good thing. But can be interesting in a story), but finally woke up to it when she killed Wynne.

Modern Caithe knows Faolain is evil and probably can’t ever be redeemed, so she just has a sort of nostalgic sadness for the love they used to have. Modern Faolain is very twisted, though, and wants to possess Caithe.

While I’m sure this was not your intention, please be careful of suggesting that gay or lesbian couples exist for the entertainment of the opposite gender. There’s no reason why female players should not like a lesbian couple, nor why male players should not like a gay male couple.

We don’t know exactly how it works. Certainly, server blackouts have been effective in the past. But equally, it’s definitely not as simple as ‘number of accounts currently online,’ otherwise there ought to be more ‘Full’ servers every day during NA prime.

I suspect there’s an algorithm of some sort, and that the longer an account has been inactive, the less it counts towards the server total.

More so assuming that it didn’t just give you stupid pointless titles and chests I don’t need, but also gave you access to all the skins and the minis, I’d have grabbed them all and seen how long I could hold onto them.

But I didn’t, and honestly, anyone who did, good for them, I don’t care if they got something I didn’t, it doesn’t bother me.

Prior to the HoM rewards being disabled, trying to use a HoM Portal Stone conveniently caused a client crash. So I think few, if any, people actually got hold of HoM rewards (skins/minis) they weren’t supposed to. It’s mostly just the AP chests.

I suspect they’ll focus on limiting the damage, for now. They’ve already disabled HoM rewards, and then they’ll probably fix the bug pretty soon (if they haven’t already. It hasn’t appeared in the patch notes, but some people seem to think the bug is fixed, at least partly). Reverting the AP gain will probably take longer. But will most likely be done eventually.

I’m not sure what they’ll do about the AP chest rewards people gained, but they presumably have a policy in place for it, given the recent AP reversion for the BL collections.

No I don’t. If you have to complete something 500 times, if you do it 500 times in 1 day or once a day over 500 days is not relevant. You still did a repetition. All examples I listed qualify as such.

None of the examples you listed required doing something 500 times. The only two that required repetition are map completion (which, as you said, was only 3 times), and forging for Mystic Clovers (which, though repetitive, is different thing from playing the game, imo. In any case, it’s far fewer than 500 repetitions).

Unless of course you count “Kill any mob” as the thing being repeated. But if you’re going to take such a broad definition of what’s repeated, the entirety of almost every single game ever created would be considered non-stop grind.

I have five legendaries and I didn’t grind for any of them.

Strange, I have five legendaries too and I cannot recall that they magically appeared in my inventory. On the contrary, I recall following a very specific agenda in order to obtain them.

How is doing world completion three times and with that completing all the “amazing” hearts three times as well not grinding? When playing a character, neither do you just stumble over all of them, nor do you always complete them by just passing through the area.

How is obtaining 77×5 Mystic Clovers not grinding? There are very few options to obtain them outside of the MF, so you either repeatedly push your RNG-luck or you repeatedly complete one of the PvP-tracks that qualify.

How is obtaining the precursors not grinding? There is no reliable way to get those, so you will likely end up buying them off the TP. While you can obtain the gold through all kind of activities, the fact that a large majority of the playerbase will have to mandatory spend it on the precursor because they are simply not getting a drop “naturally” is grinding.

How is the large amount of materials required for the gifts not grinding? Even with respectable MF (200%+ base), the amount of mobs you’d have to repeatedly kill in order to get enough drops yourself is grinding. Same as with the precursors, that you can obtain the gold elsewhere is irrelevant.

Final note, I don’t actually mind the “grind” attached to the legendaries at all, they are the pinnacle of cosmetics after all. I just found your statement completely absurd.

You’re confusing “large/time-consuming task” with “grind.” Simply because it takes a long time to get all the requirements for something, doesn’t mean that doing so is a grind… unless you play in a grindy manner.

Go to the map, and check the overall totals of each type of map completion element (PoIs, WPs, Vistas, etc). That’ll show you precisely what you’re missing. If it’s one PoI, then try the Chantry of Secrets. Otherwise, hover over each map and check their totals (not the percentage, the individual totals).

If the overall totals are all at maximum, it might be a bug caused by removing WvW from world completion.

Humans are quick to forget the amazing time they spend, and always whine about the few moments where things don’t go their way. It’s universal.

Most whiners have probably over 1000h of playtime, but that’s irrelevant.
Bugs now! Anet sucks!

its more like how did they not see this bug, we noticed it within 10 seconds.
they need a PTR, it would benefit their style and reduce predictable bugs on live greatly.

As I’ve said before, Rift had a PTR and plenty of bugs got through and every single patch required multiple down times to correct those bugs, PTR and all.

The problem is test servers are never identical to the main server and never end up with the same traffic.

not all bugs are related to traffic. messing up post processing effects, not related to traffic, skill/traits not working as advertised, not related to traffic, achievement errors, not related to traffic.

I have participated in a ptr, and if you saw the releases before PTR, you would realize how useful the ptr was So many bugs/bad implementations/errors never reach the users on the main server, with just a few dedicated ptr people.

Rift may have been bad it, but most likely the amount of issues before the ptr people got to it, was huge as compared to what you got

to be clear PTR doesnt eliminate all bugs, it reduces bugs. Thats all any quality control in any system can do. perfection is not the goal, less bugs/errors/bad implementations is the goal.

A PTR is a method of quality assurance, but by no means the only one. Anet uses a different method, and each methods has its own pros and cons. To say that a PTR is better, simply because it detects bugs, is misleading, because a patch would be released to the PTR at a considerably earlier stage of development, than a patch going into the live game from Anet. Participants in a PTR get to see bugs and resolve them, because that’s what they’re there for.

Revert the patch for Kormir's sake!

So its a value between 25-250g, I have seen exotics being linked in map chat for a lot less. At times, i bought gems with gold and then BLSKs and still made 2-3g per salvage.

To quote JS: “I’m not even sure we even agree there is a problem to solve in the first place.”

If it aint broke, dont fix it. If you dont understand the reasoning behind it, dont try to “fix” it. Just leave it.

The whole “players collect them though” is BS. Older tokens you had a defined date they would be useless. It’s your fault for hoarding them (yes, I said you’re a hoarder) beyond their life of usefulness. Newer tokens are your fault for hoarding them as well. There’s things such as bags of loot they can be spent on. Got all the unique crap already? Start buying the gear/loot bags. there’s no reason at all to “hoard” them thinking they’re going to be used in the next map. Anet clearly made it obvious when SW did not use geodes.

Do you seriously think there’s no problem with karma, though? It’s rewarded near-universally, you get it for doing everything in the game, but there’s nothing to spend it on apart from legendaries (which a lot of people don’t go for anyway). And if you are making a legendary, karma is most likely the least of your worries. So we have a situation where players have 10 or 20 million karma, nothing to do with it, and it just keeps accumulating.

Oh, sure. They could mindnumbingly convert it to linen, a few thousand at a time.

It’s not a matter of hoarding, it’s a problem with the balance between supply and desirable (or accessible) sinks. BoH’s have a similar problem. And because of it, Anet actually had to make sure we had even less sinks, by preventing salvaging of karma or WvW gear.

With SW and DT and dungeon tokens, you’re probably right that there’s not much of a problem in that sense. The income isn’t too high, and there are enough sinks to satisfy anyone. The problem with those currencies, if there is one, is simply that new ones keep being added.

I’m not saying that a cap is the answer, but there are definitely problems with at least some currencies.

I disagree with the amount things to spend karma on. There are tons of skins available only that can only be gotten with karma.

8 weapon set skins, 20 different weapons = 160 skins
5 armor sets, 6 pieces per set = 30 skins
190 total skins that can only be bought with karma.
The upper Tiers cost 63,000 each piece.

For a full set of tier 3 lion guard weapons would be 1,260,000 karma.
Yeah not nearly enough uses or sinks for karma.

Also you can throw rare and exotic karma items into the forge… which of you had 10 million karma, would not be a terrible way to use it, and make some serious gold. At the very least be able to salvage rares for ecto, which can also net you a decent chunk of change.

Most of the karma skins (from heart vendors) are very cheap. Or, some that are expensive have alternative means of acquisition that are much, much cheaper (eg. BoHs).

No one buys T3 lionguard weapons, because they only have Rare stats and the same skins as the much cheaper T1 weapons. The only reason to buy them is for the skins, which comes to a total of 186,200 karma for all of them. The fact that you could, if you so choose, profligately spend more than 6x the price on the exact same thing, isn’t a real option.

Yes, there are the Orr armour skins (42k x 18) and the T3 cultural skins (63k x 19 × 5). Those could be a big chunk of karma, if you wanted to buy them (although, the T3 cultural can also be acquired from various PS stages).

In practice, few people buy the entirety of skin sets “just because.” They’ll get the ones they want or think they’ll use. And none of the karma sets seems particularly popular. Further, skins are a one-time purchase. There’s no continuing sink.

Moreover, even if you bought every single skin available for karma it comes to maybe 7.5M karma (probably less, but I was generous with the amounts for all the cheap skins). Which is millions of karma less than what a lot of players have stocked up (and we can assume that those players have probably bought the skins they actually want already anyway).

Converting karma to gold: forging rare/exotic items is an insanely inefficient way of converting karma to gold. The best ways are forging light armour for lower tier cloth – you’ll make more gold for a few thousand karma that way, than you would for the tens or hundreds of thousands of karma you spend in the way you suggest. The theoretical ability to throw money(karma) down the drain does not a good sink make.

Finally, if there were good sinks for karma, then there wouldn’t be such a problem with people having so many millions of it stocked up.

I’m also terrible at screenshots so.

Nah. The first one especially is great, and very well timed.

[Suggestion] Putting a CAP on Currencies

How do you propose to implement this on the existing system? And how large do you want the caps to be for specific currencies?

The “simplest” Solution is to prevent players from earning anymore of a specific currency until they are below the cap. As for how large the caps should be, it depends on the currency itself, they can’t have the same caps

The problem with that, is getting rid of the excess. If the cap for karma is put at, say, 1 million, then there are people who are going to need to get rid of >10 million before they can start earning again. To allow players to get rid of that amount, you need to add fairly large sinks. And if you’re willing to add sufficiently large sinks to that currency, then people are going to wonder why you couldn’t just do that without adding a cap.

Kicking should stay anonymous

So it gives a notification the moment you make the kick request, rather than once it has gone through? Hmm.

I definitely think that there should be a notification of who is responsible for kicking someone, once that person has actually been kicked. Whether it should come up before then, though… it does seem more likely to cause toxicity if it does. If you want to get rid of an individual from your party, then you probably don’t want to give them a greater opportunity to cause drama. And if the kicking was improper, they still have the information they need to submit a report.

I cannot speak in guild chat! Is this a joke?..

No, it’s a bug. We’ve had similar ones before, so don’t panic. For now, just use the workarounds described until a fix comes through.

[Suggestion] Rabbits

Well, I think Grawl Shamans throw rabbits at you, which then attack. So to that extent, the second part of the idea kind of already exists. And those invincible killer chickens in Fields of Ruin.

But generally, umm, yeah. It probably wouldn’t hurt. Could be fun.

Lifetime Survivor Issue

The reason for the “necrobump” is that I don’t consider this issue solved. The least they could do is inform about the actual requirements for this title. It is really not funny to realize that one cannot log off and continue the title the next day… Maybe they should call it the Marathon Title?

The issue in November 2012, which when this thread is from, was that some players had a bug where progress would not restart after a player had died. The bar would stay at 0. The people early on in this thread were complaining that they had to make a new toon each time they wanted to try again. Unless you have some new evidence, the issue is solved.

Moving on to your complaint, that the requirements for the title weren’t made clear. I’m looking at the achievement, and it says “Gain 500,000 experience without dying or changing maps.” That seems pretty clear. The only difficulty is that you didn’t realise that changing shards on the megaserver counts as changing maps. Perhaps that’s not intuitively obvious, but it is how the game’s infrastructure works. Now that you know, you shouldn’t have the same trouble the next time you try for it.

Unfortunately, they had to go and mess it up with a load of gimmicky, annoying mechanics. Like the shrines, and the dinosaur cannon.

But these create objectives for small-scale fights for an advantage. Isn’t that what everybody and their dog requested? Ways to split up zergs, so you can finally have these small-scale fights?

Is that what people asked for? I remember when people used to ask that, so Anet took away the lake and gave us all the bloodlust nodes. A load of work which was, on the whole, wasted since it’s rarely used and never to the full advantage they explained in the gameplay videos. And, of course, a lot of the time when a commander wants bloodlust, they use an entire zerg just to make sure of getting it.

The dinosaur cannon thing is going to be the same as that. If it’s powerful enough that it offers a massive advantage, then servers are going to bring as much manpower as they can to make sure of getting it. Sure, bringing a zerg might be less efficient than a small havoc group… but inefficiency is usually better than not only losing out on getting a massive advantage, but having it turned on you.

Worse, the way the cannon apparently destroys stuff in all objectives means a lot of extra boring grunt work for the players who actually stick around and take care of defenses (if you have any at all on your server).

As for the shrines, my understanding is that they are supposed to be taken in conjunction with attacking the keep. Meaning they’re not going to be separate small-scale combat between random roaming havoc groups, but will have to be taken in close coordination with the zerg that is going to take the keep. Otherwise, capping them is kind of pointless. Since they give extra buffs, you can bet the entire zerg is going to hit at least one, as well.

So I doubt the particular mechanics I named will be very helpful in splitting up zergs at all. The geography of the map should be a lot more influential at doing that… assuming players want to play in a manner generally consistent with what Anet thinks WvW players do.

None of which was my point. I dislike gimmicky mechanics like wind-blowing, special transformations, jump pads, auto-turrets, and mazes with changing walls. They add nothing good to the game mode.

The map looks nicely designed, geographically. I don’t have a problem with that aspect, and I’m very interested to see how it plays. Unfortunately, they had to go and mess it up with a load of gimmicky, annoying mechanics. Like the shrines, and the dinosaur cannon.

And did they think about how WvW is often one of the laggiest parts of the game? I do not look forward to dealing with any of the jump pads or bird statues or whatever if there’s even a small amount of lag.

Ascended Crafting made me quit this game

I think you may be approaching this from the wrong direction. While it’s nice to have, there isn’t any pressing need for ascended armor in the game currently outside of high level Fractals, so there’s no reason for you to have to rush through making it. Especially since you are now able to process the time-gated materials, just play the game normally and you’ll have your set soon enough.

This. Getting things like Legendaries or ascended gear should not be your reason for playing the game, OP. You should play a game because you enjoy playing it. IF you enjoy playing it enough that you want to go for expensive, long-term rewards, then great! If you’re less involved/more casual about it, then you can easily do everything in GW2 in easily-available exotics.

Both times you’ve quit the game, are because you’ve set yourself difficult long-term goals (including further self-imposed limitations to make it more difficult – ie. your desire to gather+craft everything yourself), but are unwilling to invest the time and effort needed to achieve them.

Digital Deluxe Edition improvement

No one receives the Hero’s Band anymore; only those that pre-purchased the DDE before the original release of GW2.

Actually, it was for every who pre-purchased GW2, even if they got the normal edition.

The point is, Anet isn’t going to make major improvements to an item that is only available to accounts that pre-purchased the game.
