a possible way to fix epidemic

Put in lower stack limits on epi. Even 10 stacks of every condi is an insane condi bomb by a single skill.

Implement proper condi cleanse hiearchys, with the most dangerous ones always cleansed first (so no more cleansing 4 condis and then downing yourself because you got unlucky and didn’t cleanse the confusion).

Remove resistance and rebalance condis in general accordingly. No more allowing a war or rev to gather dozens upon dozens of stacks of condis to be spread via epi. This would be a natural check to the maximum power of the skill as long as you aren’t near a lord, while still allowing it to be devastating if set up properly

That is all you need to do to have epi be perfectly balanced.

I’ve always wondered why Tybalt was so special and not Forgal and Sieran?

Since Forgal and Sieran died aswell at the same chapter as Tybalt did.
They’re doing the exact same thing as they were our Order mentors…

Anyway, since Demmi was in the Order of Whispers and since Tybalt was saving her along with the ‘commander’, I guess she liked him more than us,

People seem to care about Tybalt more. I’ve played through all 3 storylines and I can’t even remember the names of the other two mentors, but I never forgot Tybalt. Not sure why.

Let us take a secondary profession, ala’ gw1. It wouldn’t be power creep and potentially a lot of fun.

a thief that can use meteor shower yes that sure will be balanced or a chrono that can give gotl with healing aka perma gotl

Chrono druid would be an awesome tank. Gear up in minstrels, be able to full heal people with ease while still providing perm quickness and high alacrity uptime, on top of GotL. Yup, can’t see a problem with this idea

Yup Carrighan nailed it. I think you still missed what I was trying to say Daniel Handler. Even though chrono can bring more utility than a healing rev can, we have to invest everything into our alacrity rotation, and keep a very strict rotation if we even hope to get that high while maintaining quickness. Yet rev literally presses 1 button and has as high of an alacrity uptime as we can pull off. Its annoying to say the least.

Rev has a minor trait that has better alacrity generation than anything that Chrono got. Even our shatters can’t generate 75% alacrity uptime on just ourselves, and they involve a bunch of skills intertwining to both summon the illusions and then destroy them.

Its very annoying that Rev has it so incredibly easy to keep such a high alacrity uptime while chrono has to work their kitten off, relatively speaking, to get anywhere near that for party members.

I don’t misunderstand it. Ventari is meant as a healing and support legend. You don’t use ventari to be dealing damage. With the high base healing and healing power scaling on Natural Harmony, along with the guaranteed 15% boost in effectiveness if revs are giving out alacrity, a Ventari rev can be giving out absolutely insane healing. Within hours of the patch going live, there were pics of Revs healing 14k at once. And now they can give 75% uptime on alacrity on top of having absolutely insane heals.

It wasn’t meant to be a damage dealing legend, but that doesn’t change that it still has huge group support through those massive heals and high alacrity uptime. And a healing/support rev could still reflect projectiles without leaving ventari as long as he is willing to just not get 75% uptime on alacrity. But even 50% uptime would be possible while still bringing decent amounts of projectile hate.

https://gw2efficiency.com/crafting/calculator/80857-Grandmaster-Tailor's-Mark,80685-Grandmaster-Armorsmith's-Mark,80799-Grandmaster-Leatherworker's-Mark

Update on the price comparison.

It takes 20 marks to buy an entire set of armor. The price to craft enough marks for an entire set has risen to between 346 gold (for heavy) and 376 gold (for light), making the total cost of purchasing a set of ascended armor range from 360 -390 gold, opportunity cost of fractal relics not included.

The cost to craft a full set of light ascended armor is only up to 393 gold. In other words, its equal cost to craft or buy at this point depending on what stats you want, not counting the opportunity cost of the fractal relics. This also doesn’t take into consideration the fact that you need more timegated mats to purchase the ascended armor than you do to craft it.

I’m still not a fan of this implementation ANet.

I’m not thrilled about the changes to how we acquire ascended armor via vendors. If it was just a liquid gold cost it would be different, but instead its just as much crafting as actually crafting the armor, plus who knows how many hours just to farm the timegated currency to buy it. I don’t see a benefit to implementing it in this way.

OriOri.8724

Alacrity uptime aside, its also significantly harder for chronos to generate alacrity for party members than it is for the rev. They share 3 seconds of it every time they use natural harmony, which requires 4 seconds to refill the energy cost.

The only source of alacrity that chronos have that generates similar amounts of alacrity is WoR that generates 5 sec of alacrity on a 35 sec recharge. The only other sources for party wide alacrity from chronos is 2 seconds at the end of wells and iAvenger.

I’m honestly more upset about Revs having easier access to party alacrity than chronos do than I am about revs getting alacrity. It should be dialed back to 2 sec of alacrity on natural harmony for revs, and some of the sources of alacrity for chronos should be buffed up as well.

How would you redesign the mesmer?

in Mesmer

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

I’m biased because the Mesmer playstyle has never really seemed to work well for me… but I keep getting drawn to it in GW1 and GW2 regardless.

I like both of Lonami’s ideas. I assume the idea for targeted illusions is that they’re supposed to be in that person’s head, and it vanishes when they’re defeated, but it makes for a frustrating mechanic that requires more planning than other classes without any extra benefit.

I’d much rather Illusions just be a thing you summon, help you in a fight, and are tied to you. I don’t know how much control you should have over them, because that could get ridiculously chaotic fast, but there could at least be some sort of smart targeting.

The idea of being able to switch between Illusions as the Mesmer’s main defense, is an idea I really like. Honestly, I feel like that should be the true mechanic for Illusions. They don’t feel powerful or intimidating enough to fulfill the imagined nightmares that I think they were supposed to represent from GW1. As a “which one is the real one” mechanic, though, they could be a lot more interesting.

I also like Shriketalon’s idea of making clone creation more of a passive thing based on the Trait lines you’ve picked, rather than something that takes up weapon skills. This would also put the planning on more active combat than on Illusion management, which I don’t enjoy and is a stretch from the GW1 version of the class.

So this might be the idea behind the implementation, but as long as everyone can see the illusions this isn’t how it works. Illusions could be made to work like this however, but it would require a significant change to mesmer.

It would need to be changed so that illusions are only visible to their target, furthermore they can only be damage by their target (even though this is mostly a moot point due to how fast they are killed regardless……), possibly only being able ot be hurt through direct attacks. Then, we would need a 3 illusion limit per target, up to say 5 targets maximum. Activating a shatter would only shatter the illusions that are tied to the target we select. So we could then selectively shatter without ever destroying an illusion if we wanted to, simply by untargetting everyone first.

All illusion generating skills would then have to be redone to either have significantly shorter CDs, or to generate their illusions for up to X targets in range. Finally, F3 and F4 could potentially be changed into more powerful shatters that always destroy all of our illusions, but their scaling would need to be redone from scratch. Current scaling would make them ridiculous if you had illusions out for 5 enemies at a time. Scaling them up so that at 15 illusions they would be as powerful as they are now though would mean that a “regular” shatter with only 3 or 4 illusions would be worthless, something like 1/4 sec Distortion/ stun from those shatters.

I think adventures need to be available at least 75% of the time, which means in VB they would need to be available for part of the night as well and most if not all of the day. It just sucks to have to do meta events just to gain access to these adventures. You can’t just pop in and practice whenever you want if the meta isn’t advancing fast enough.

Other than that I’m generally ok with them. I do wish that the requirements for gold on some of them was lowered, but keeping a title for people who hit the current requirements, to show that they did it. This would help people gather their mastery points as well as lower frustrations for some (hopefully).

Most if not all of the skills that were used in the bunker meta were also nerfed, some of them nerfed hard. Bringing back celestial would make some builds tankier, but it wouldn’t be enough to bring back a bunker meta like S1 saw.

i will give credits for the op of this post .but have never spent a penny at all in this game.

for me i seen no need to spend any real world cash at all in the game. there is just

noting at all worth it. even more so with items from gem shop being able to be gotten

with in game gold . and change it over to gems in the cash shop .. and i will never spend

another penny at all on this company . giving the fact the game still uses only DX9 .

all the mean while much older games like this that i do play . have put in DX11

needless to say even tho they are much more older games when they updated to dx11

and put the more fun back into there games !! for me that said a whole lot more . with

out saying a word . unlike this company ANET has FAILED even more so with there

latest patch . thus they will never ever get another penny from me. until such time

anet fixes the game and adds DX11 . that is if the company is still around even .

What on earth do you think upgrading to DX11 will do for the game? The graphics will be the same and the gameplay certainly won’t change at all from that. Not to mention that the devs have explicitly told us that the lag is not caused by the rendering pipeline, so upgrading to DX11 won’t make the lag any better. Period. There’s no getting around that fact, because rendering is not what is causing the lag. Its everything else.

So what do you possibly think upgrading to DX11 would bring to the game?

Minstrel is expensive gear, and I wouldn’t recommend shelling out the money for it unless you also plan on using it in other content like fractals or even raids as a minstrel chrono tank.

If you want more survivability in HoT maps, I would suggest rolling a Necro. They have absolutely insane survivability in PvE due to the combination of a high HP pool, shroud, and minions to take aggro and conditions from you (if traited). I find that a necro also makes story missions trivial to complete, and their personal DPS is way higher than mesmers as well, so you complete the instances more quickly.

As to learning the tells of the enemies in HoT maps, it just takes practice. And map awareness. I might be alone in this, but when I’m running through those maps, my camera is spinning around quite frequently. I mostly use it to look at the scenery because I love the maps, but it also is extremely important in telling me where enemies are waiting. Don’t be afraid to use the CTLR key to highlight them either. And over time you will learn which parts of the maps have which enemies in them. The tells themselves though just takes practice. I highly recommend playing through on Necro, and that way you can spend more time learning the tells of the enemies in those maps, which will make playing your mesmer easier.

So the build I gave you is more than enough to be immortal on a mesmer regardless of what your gear is, and like @cptaylor said in his reply, you don’t even need it. You can be immortal as a mesmer by playing something much less forgiving but with higher damage output (which in turn is a valid way to stay alive, by killing stuff faster).

The problem is that all of mesmers defenses are active defenses. Using BF as an evade. Using Distortion as an on demand invuln if you need it. Using F3 to interrupt large attacks. Using staff 2 to evade an attack/get out of an AoE field. Until you get those down, which does involve learning the tells from the enemies, you will have trouble surviving as a mesmer. It might sound harsh but its the truth with mesmer. Our defenses are all active.

highly depends the nightmare fractal is obviously added as a stepping stone to raids and i guess in a way same with chaos that doesn’t mean the next one would be on the same lvl with these 2 or even higher in terms of difficulty.

Well the team has said that they want T4 fractals to be a stepping stone to raids. And Chaos is about the same difficulty as Nightmare fractal, even though 1 is a boss fractal and 1 isn’t. So I thnk its safe to say the new one will be about the same difficulty.

I just got my first garanteed wardrobe unlock and previewed what it could give me, and I think it could use a lot of improvements. This may be controversial to a few people, but I’m actually asking for stuff to be removed from the guaranteed wardrobe unlock item.

While previewing it, I saw several items in there that should not be, in my opinion. Namely, it had all 3 of the WvW tournament finishers (SS below) available. However, I did not participate in the WvW tournaments, my account didn’t even exist at the time. Moreover, the wardrobe unlock will unlock the finishers from all 3 tournaments (NA, EU, and China), despite the fact that I play on the NA servers. I just think its weird that I could get any of them at all, much less a finisher for a different version of the game.

As for improvements to the preview option itself, it would be nice if the black lion skins were separated from skins you collect in game. It would make it a bit easier for players to just use a quick glance to see what skins they could easily and cheaply add to their account before using it, as opposed to now, where you have to scroll through all of the BLTP skins before you get to the bottom of that section, which is where all of the in game skins appear for me.

Other than that I think its a great item. Excited to have finally gotten one from a chest.

There has been multiple DLC and maps and an expansion….

LW doesn’t really count as DLC though, since its forced on everyone. After the patch goes live, you can’t play the game without downloading it and patching your client, but with regular DLC, you have the option to purchase and download it or not. LW is just an extensive patch, and unless you want to call every patch that GW2 has received over the 4+ years its been online “DLC” then LW isn’t DLC.

So they can do more “stuff” to make the game better…

Sell the following items in the CASH SHOP only…

-Sell lvl 80 boosts and individual tomes of knowledge.

No to the level 80 boosts, it doesn’t take that long to level your own character. And for tomes, a lot of people already complain about having too many tomes. I can’t imagine very many people would pay for even more tomes

-Map completion packs, per character only.

Full map completion. As in filling out all hearts, HP, vistas, PoI, and WPs? That’s ridiculous, and is the start of the slippery slope that leads to P2W, or even worse, P2P. Doing hearts already counts towards an achievement, allowing people to pay gems to complete achievements just sounds like a bad idea from the start. Similarly, this would be unfair if it awarded GoE, but at the same time if it didn’t award GoE, and even if it came with profuse warnings about this, people would buy it and complain about not getting their “free” GoE, which would lead to resentment from them.

-Sell each booster individually and in packs.

Yes, I really don’t know why they aren’t. And bringing back karma bonfires would surely sell

-Race change. This would work really really well coupled with having dwarves as a playable race.

I’ve never understood why so many players are obsessed over race changes. Just make a new character. This would present a lot of technical difficulties to implement, and I really can’t see that many people using it. Gonna have to say no.

-Sell laurels and various in-game currencies.

Abso-kittening-lutely not! This is blatant P2W, allowing players to bypass playing certain content just by shelling out loads of gems to acquire the currency for 0 effort. And Laurels are time gated by design. Allowing players to buy more just defeats the purpose.

-VIP monthly sub with perks.

Again, abso-kittening-lutely not! This always leads to preferential treatment for the VIP players. And I don’t mean little things, but it always devolves until if you aren’t a part of this VIP club the game becomes almost unplayable short of putting in about 80 hours a week. This would kill the game as we all know it

That’s a good start I think, but what are your ideas to help the devs increase their resources quickly so they have the resources to do more “stuff”?

First off I have to say, why do you automatically assume its a lack of money for ANet that is causing them to not have develoment time to do a lot of things? Its entirely possible that they are just trying to do too many things at the same time (a huge portion of their developers are only working on the next expansion, then you have Raid team, fractal team, PvP team, WvW team, LW teams, general PvE teams, Gem Store teams etc….). They are just trying to do too many things at once, so a lot of teams seem to have too few devs assigned to them to implement what we want to see.

Now, my replies to your suggestions are in bold. If they really want/need to increase gem store sales, they need to look at items that people aren’t buying, look at why people aren’t buying them, and then react accordingly. A great example is the Upgrade Extractor. Its expensive, coming in at over $3 each if you buy individually, down to $2.50 if you pay $62.50 worth of gems at the same time to get 25 of them. I can’t imagine those are selling that well since outside of potentially a single sigil in the game right now, its literally cheaper to just buy what you are destroying than it is to extract it. That’s the best way to increase sales, not introducing items that either no one will want or will lead to the slope towards P2W

The new phantasm skill changes make it harder for mesmers to remain stealthed while summoning a phantasm. And I disagree that the mesmer deals damage while being stealthed. The illusions applying the damage are in plain sight the entire time. You are free to destroy them, you always know where they are, you can use LoS to keep their attacks from landing. No damage is being done from stealth. Whereas with ghost thief it is.

And I also want torment removed from ether bolt regardless, as I think its bullkitten a clone attack is applying it.

However only 3 classes have access to a reveal skill that doesn’t require a target to cast (AKA the only 3 that work on someone already in stealth), and of those 3 skills, 1 of them is a trap that the thief would have to wander through in order to trigger. So even if you believe that stab is a necessity to fight mistrust mesmer, you can’t deny that at least all classes have access to that, whereas really only 2 classes have meaningful access to an AoE reveal that would be needed to deal with ghost thief.

5 of the 9 classes have access to aoe reveal, because warrior and ranger have access to taunt. No, it isn’t used much. No, it isn’t part of the meta, but the meta needs to change. It wrecks the kitten out of ghost thieves.

Like jski said, your numbers are misleading. 1 of the 4 (if you check the wiki, only 4 classes even have access to taunt) classes with access to Taunt is Rev, who is one of the 2 classes with AoE reveal skills. A second class with access to Taunt is mesmer, whose only access involves mirroring taunt back at the source on a 60 sec CD (among every other form of CC, so the chances of it actually reflecting taunt are slim in the first place), but since thieves don’t have access to taunt, mesmers can’t mirror it back to them, so for the purpose of fighting the ghost trapper thief, this doesn’t do anything. So we are down to 2 classes with access to taunt that don’t have access to AoE stealth.

Of those 2 remaining classes, the taunts are small sized AoEs (180 units for the Berserker). Even if you want to run with this though, this leaves 4 out of 9 classes with either a meaningful AoE reveal or an AoE taunt. And 3 of those 4 skills are very small AoEs.

So again I reiterate my above point. Every class has access to stab in some form, which is not even necessary to fight mistrust mesmer, it just completely shuts down mistrust and makes it useless. Only 4 classes out of 9 have a reveal or taunt, of which 75% of the skills are very small AoEs that the ghost thief can easily avoid while still dealing damage without breaking stealth. And you can’’t fight something you can’t see.

Ghost thief breaks fundamental game mechanics and cannot be fought by 5 of the 9 classes at all. The 4 that can fight it don’t have the tools to force it out of stealth if it doesn’t want to be forced out. These two builds are just not comparable whatsoever.

Take SW/Sh and Staff, Chrono, Inspirations , Chaos.

You’ll deal little to no damage, but you’ll have plenty of stunbreaks, Staff 2 will be useful for evading AoEs or large attacks, and Shield itself just has tons of sustain. You’ll also have large-ish access to prot and regen from the Chaos line, especially if you take some boon duration gear like minstrels (speaking of minstrels, the healing you’ll output from RI would be insane in PvE with full minstrels).

Note though that while this build is close to immortal if played right, the damage you deal will be absolutely pitiful, it will take you forever to kill anything, which will make it incredibly boring for solo play. If you want an immortal build for solo play PvE, a Necro is a much better choice than a mesmer.

The dueling line needs to get a decent condi clear. I think that desperate decoy could be made into a pretty powerful condi cleanse that would be perfect for duels. Change it so that evading an attack transfers 1 condition from you to each illusion (so up to 3 transferred total) with a 15-20sec ICD. Its fairly weak on its own, but you could combine it with light fields (WoE or focus) and/or domination signet trait for pretty solid condi cleanse in a duel situation without being forced into the inspirations line.

Great suggestion. What happens when you don’t have an illusion?

You don’t cleanse a condition. This is intentional to hamper the cleanse for several reasons. Its not in the Inspirations line, so it should be weaker than those cleanses. Its an adept trait,so it shouldn’t be too powerful, and tying it to having illusions out is I think not only a great way to reign it in, but also tie it into our class mechanic as well.

Plus, its is the dueling line, designed around the notion of dueling someone. You should be having illusions out in a duel as a mesmer, even if they are immediate shatter fodder, you could choose to evade an attack before shattering to cleanse a few conditions.

All of that said, I would be open to having it cleanse 1 condition baseline, with up to 2 more for having 2 illusions out.

Might affects them, quickness and fury do not. Nor do aegis/protection that is applied to us. And considering how vital they are to our DPS and how easy they are to kill, there isn’t a reason to not give them aegis and protection that we get ourselves.

Material Storage

If it’s anything more than updating a database entry or two per item then there’s something seriously wrong with GW2’s architecture.

At a minimum they’d have to update flags on the items that will be added to mat storage, as well as update the mat storage code itself to hold more items. This would be an absolute minimum in any well designed database, individual flags on items to tell the engine what to do with them, as well as the code for the storage itself to allow it to hold more objects. Even something as simple as adding more squares to the UI is going further than updating a database entry or two.

I’d rather wait and have this done well and be inclusive than have it be rushed through with bugs

I second the idea to take focus over offhand sword. It gives you swiftness (allowing for something like 98% uptime on swiftness when combined with SoInspirations), but more importantly it has a pull that is extremely useful for cleaving enemies with GS3 or SW1 and 2. It also has iWarden, which will absorb projectiles, incredibly useful against the frogs with bows (shadowleapers).

For your GS opening, I wouldn’t open with GS1 as it needlessly aggroes the mob early without doing substantial damage. Instead I would go GS4-2-3. All 3 skills should land at about the same time, as well as have a nice (well nice for a mesmer at any rate) AoE burst from the bounces on GS2 and from Mindstab. With mainhand sword, don’t forget to use BF for cleave and as an evade.

Balance Patches

Yes, calling it a tweaking patch instead of a balance patch is good. The patch on wednesday was too big to be called just tweaks, but the ones we’ve been getting between last April and last Wednesday were all tweaks, except for a single patch in July.

  • May 3, 2016 only affected 4 skills. 4, and 2 of those were bug fixes
  • May 17, 2016 only affected 5 classes, with the average of exactly 3 skills per class being changed
  • July 26, 2016 was a decent sized patch. This one could be called an actual balance patch instead of just tweaks.
  • October 18, 2016 was a small patch for being the only thing we had received in 3 months. Definitely not big enough to be considered anything more than tweaking.
  • Dec 13, 2016 only touched skills from 6 classes, averaging less than 4 skills per class changed for the 6 that were involved.
  • Feb 22, 2017 arrives and is generally underwhelming for how long we’ve waited for a balance patch.

Since April 2016 we have had 1 balance patch that has been large enough to almost justify the 3 month wait time between each one. But of the 6 total balance patches we’ve received since then, only 3 of them even changed skills on every class, and 2 of those 3 were small patches for the wait.

[Suggestion] Make players move more in combat

Being rooted while you cast Meteor Shower is a balance decision, not just because ANet doesn’t want us moving around. It makes you a clear target since you are setting up a highly damaging AoE attack with one of, if not the, largest AoE sizes in the entire game. So yea, it makes sense for you to be rooted while casting it, it gives players a better chance to interrupt you, or put down enough pressure to get you to move, canceling the cast.

For everything else, if you want to move more, go for it. Generally though if you don’t need to move there isn’t much reason to move.

Balance Patches

While I can’t speak for others, I’m not looking for major balance changes every month. A major balance patch would be fine every 3-6 months, as long as we were getting smaller changes every month or so that were addressing over/under tuned skills/traits. We shouldn’t have to wait 3+ months for the devs to knock 5 seconds off the CD of a skill that isn’t used because its payoff doesn’t justify its large CD.

Unfortunately, what we currently get is these average sized balance patches that should be coming monthly every 3-6 months. And we get few to no of the major balance patches. The last balance patch that I consider a major patch was last April, but even then it wasn’t nearly large enough to be the only balance patch of that magnitude over a 12 month period.

The biggest reason I want more frequent balance changes is because the balance patches that we do get are not big enough to justify the 3-4 month wait every time.

This sounds like a cool spec, but I really don’t want another off hand weapon for mesmer, and I really really don’t want another spec aimed purely at support

In my opinion, phantasms should share all boons that we get baseline. For effects like alacrity/spotter/banners, there should be a trait we can pick that also grants all phantasms the effects that are placed on us (barring stealth).

I’m really a fan of this idea. For simplicity’s sake (and hopefully that means it will be more likely to be implemented), I would be fine if we just started out with the Living World story memento section and possibly the legendary weapon rack. The living world section would contain the lorebooks that we have completed, along with various other trophies (that dwarf thumb) to get them out of our inventory without making us delete them forever. The legendary weapon rack is self explanatory.

Eventually it would also be nice to add in the world boss and raid trophies and the miniature set, I’m not sold on the black lion weapon rack yet though. Perhaps the world boss trophies could be placed when you complete all of the achievements surrounding a certain world boss, and the Raid boss trophies could be placed whenever you clear that boss for the first time?

Balance Patches

The overarching response that devs gave in the balance AMA was that they didn’t have enough time to do something. That was their response maybe 75% of the time they responded to someone unfortunately. This leads me to believe that GW2 has no dedicated balance team, and its more of a few devs are pulled from their other work to implement balance changes and test them when we do get a balance patch. This would explain why we don’t get them more often, and also unfortunately means that we aren’t likely to see an increase in frequency.

You can always try asking support if they can roll back that aspect of your account. I’m not sure if they can but its worth a shot
