Why would the expansion cycle of a different game impact when we get our second expansion? And no, its not worrying that we haven’t had an announcement yet, we are still in the middle of LWS3. Expect an announcement when LWS3 finishes at the earliest, and then expect the second expac within 6 months of that announcement, if not within 3-4 months.

That likely wont happen. Too many players have too much AP already. Higher it goes, the more stuff you have to design to reward them at higher tiers; more reasons to discriminate new players against (regardless of however idiotic that may be). You should have noticed it by now… Numerous achievements awarding 1-2 points, lack of meta achieves, recycled achieves, etc.

They already have AP rewards going all the way up to 44,000 AP on the same rate as we currently enjoy them, and then the pinnacle skins continue until 56,000 AP. There is plenty of wiggle room there. Absolutely plenty. A handful of new slayer achievements will not change that

I get the feeling that most of the people who think the extremely high price of leather is fine are people who are already finished leveling their crafting and making armor sets for their toons, so they can feel free to sell all of the leather that they get and just make pure profit off of it. But this completely disregards newer players.

How is the price of leather inviting to new players? Why would they want to keep playing the game if it costs them 60 gold just to make the insignias for a single set of exotic armor? They won’t. This price isn’t conducive to trying new builds. Its not conducive towards new players enjoying the game. It doesn’t help anyone except the people who are done crafting armor. Its nothing but a deterrent to new players.

And its still not ok for one of the basic crafting mats to be so much more expensive than the other 3. T6 leather is still 6 times as expensive as T6 wood, 46 times as expensive as T6 cloth, 15 times as expensive as T6 ore. Not to mention that if the price of leather was lower, the price of cloth would go up as demand would go up.

That will reveal your build, then grant an advantage on the enemy team (focus the core class!). Or discrimination on yours (wtf are you a f2p?)

Again, how is this any different from now? As soon as the first fight is over you will know if someone is running a core build or an elite spec, so after the first fight you can still focus the core spec. It wouldn’t be any different than it is now.

@Locuz you completely missed my point. I never agreed with OP in this thread. Not once. I agreed that the implementation of top stats leaves a lot to be desired. And just like defense, if you can keep 2 or 3 players on the other team occupied for a long time than your offensive stats should reflect that. These shouldn’t ba based off of raw numbers but on how effective you were, and currently they don’t reflect that.

Mobility or stealth should be an investment and a choice between mobility or stealth, not both, that’s what’s destroyed roaming in WvW since WvW was a thing.

Could not have put it better myself. No build should have high access to both mobility and stealth. Just like no build should have high access to self sustain and raw damage. Together, while it might not be overpowered, its definitely broken and a poor design.

so Warrior and DH are OP in your eyes also?
u guys all make no sense, thief is OP while u mention other kitten that suits other classes perfectly but these classes are fine.

do u guys not realise all Elites are OP, one shines at X and other shines at Y at the end all have something extra that is OP in the eyes of a other class.

only problem in WvW is:
Siege (arrow carts especially)
Dumb kitten classes favored in zergs (because OP stability darn thief useless need a boost so we can join zergs also, no?)
Conditions give tons of dmg which is fine but let people sacrifice something also like u cant have massive power build + tons of HP and toughness or w/e

theres prolly more but i barely login anymore nowadays, since i find thief not OP enough yet to enjoy it.
no just dont enjoy WvW anymore its to kittened how people enjoy big laggy(server lag skill delay w/e u call it) over small scale fights.

I think that all of the elite specs are still overpowered or just plain broken in design, and yes that would include both DH and berserker. I never said they were fine.

And by the way, saying “All elite specs are overpowered and are broken in design” is not a good excuse to keep them that way.

A lot of what you listed is straight power creep instead of nerfing what is overtuned.

Pretty much this was what I was going to say.

A lot of the suggestions here are the opposite direction. There is honestly too much stability and other forms of passive immunities in the game we don’t need more we need less.

Not to mention turning MW into an unblockable attack. If OP has a problem with DH blocking attacks from power mesmer then a good suggestion would be to nerf the duration of blocks that DH has access to, not make a powerful power attack on a 10sec CD unblockable for the mesmer.

OriOri.8724

Your problem, it seems, is that you spent way too much time exploiting the mm runs and now that it’s fixed you don’t get the same thrill. This is not a problem with the game, but a problem with your mindset. Might I recommend taking some time doing something that doesn’t involve gathering loot as the primary goal? Level an alt, do the first tier of a legendary journey, get in on a raid training run.

There is zero problem with my mindset. Each player plays for their own reasons and goals. Some play for achievements, some play for the fashion aspect, raids, legendary weapons, etc. I play to de-stress mostly. Gathering for many is an activity that relieves a lot of stress. I feel like many on here love to pounce on anyone that doesn’t have their mindset.

If raids and legendary weapons are your thing then great, I’m happy for you. Maybe I’ll do them one day but at the moment I like the gathering aspect of the game and part of that got nerfed. Imagine how you might feel if they nerfed raids. I’ve seen no shortage of people who get upset at balance changes and I never see people pouncing on them.

Also if it wasn’t for us who love the gathering aspect of the game you wouldn’t have lots of materials on the TP to buy.

That’s such bullkitten lmao. “Everyone can play how they like, don’t hate them for it. But, by the way, my preferred way of playing the game made the game more enjoyable for you so you should be thankful.”

ABMM was incredibly toxic for the game. It needed to go and the only problem surrounding the fix it was how long it was left alone.

OriOri.8724

I would have to agree. They are universally upgrades to core trait lines. Only a few really give up any of their core mechanics. Ranger, Warrior and Mesmer just get more profession skills added on top of what they already had. At least with Reaper and Guardian theres an illusion of giving up something, even if it’s still a favorable trade in.

Guardian mechanic gave something up when they use DH? Lol. DH virtues are straight powercreeped upgrades. Spear of Justice has the same passive effect as Virtue of Justice, yet also has an unblockable 1200 range pull attached to it, that also applies more burning via justice.

Wings of Resolve heals for 2.4 times as much as Virtue of Resolve does, as well as being on 33% shorter cooldown in PvE/WvW, being a mobility skill, breaking immobilize and can be traited to deal damage as well.

Shield of Courage gives you a kittening shield instead of a single aegis. Though tbf in PvP it has almost twice the CD of Virtue of Courage after the last balance patch.

What exactly did guardians give up in their virtues if they take DH? Nothing, they do nothing but gain a kittenton on their virtues. Elite specs should change how you play the class, not just offer straight upgrades on your mechanics.

Should Top Stats count toward rating?

in PvP

Posted by: OriOri.8724

OriOri.8724

No. I don’t want to encourage people to go after top stats over winning the game.

Thats exactly what top stats do allready.

The vast majority of players that communicate about a game after a win / loss refer to their top stats to measure their value for the teams succes. Look at the OP for example.

I cant count the times where i was defending our only remaining node vs 2-3 while the rest of my team was chasing “top stats”.

I mean all this says really is that how top stats are determined should be changed. For your example, defending 1v2 or 1v3 should be given you a lot more points towards the defensive top stat than if you were 1v1. It doesn’t mean that top stats are flawed, just that how they are determined needs some work.

this change it self doesn’t prevent class stacking. It only makes it so you hope anet will find you a good comp i think “no” is the way to go.

Or choose “Yes” and rage enough until Anet removes class stacking.

They won’t remove class stacking for a while, if they ever do. First, it would take a bit to get per profession MMR down. It seems simple, you know you are good with 1 profession, but try to play an unfamiliar one and you will be worse at it. That part makes sense, but if you are in high plat then you are a good PvPer, and will be good-ish at PvP no matter what class you are on (theoretically at any rate). So its not as simple as starting out from bronze level MMR for each class. It would have to take into account how well of a PvP-er in general you are, which will take a while to get down. And then there are queue time problems that could come with removing class stacking.

I honestly no longer think it is incompetence.

Given some of the design changes (base Tyria compared to HoT), I find it harder and harder to believe that it is incompetence, but a deliberate implementation of ANET vs Players.

If you ever role play (table top games.) you may have experienced the mindset that can happen of GMs vs Players, aka them vs us. Most of the time that is not very productive for either side.

GW2 is not a tabletop roleplaying game. The Devs gain nothing out of making the players fail, but they do stand to lose a ton. This is simply not applicable to an MMO development.

Lol, you’re just bad at thief then, thief (DP at least) will eat revs alive, necro, power mes, any form of power ele and can have a good chance against non eternal champion warriors. Before you come back with “play thief if you think it’s good” I do and have played thief in WvW, I just find it an abysmally boring class.

Not sure how it raids against druids after the CA cool down increase, I’m sure deceiver would be able to enlighten us on how that goes.

I think the toxic attitude started when the announcement of the pending nerf hit. Many were scrambling to do it as much as they could. Had they not announced it there never would have been that crazed attitude around it. While I don’t agree with the nerf I think it should never have announced it in advance. They should have just done it and moved on. All the announcement did was hype it up as the event to do.

Appreciate everyone voting no and ruining possibly one of the best features to ever come to the game, having sperate ratings for each profession allowing you the peace of mind that you can play any class you want and learn it with expercience.

Instead you want people to reroll a class they likely do not have experience and cause balance issues of where someone is absolutely awful with that class compared to a true main of that class in that rating bracket.

Guardian player queues up, ends with 4 in his team. This guardian player doesn’t know how to play any other class, so he doesn’t swap as he would be more likely to lose than simply remaining. New system would encourage playing more than one class, but looks like that’s not going to happen.

Class swapping will be locked regardless of which result wins. Its only a matter of whether its locked as soon as you accept the queue or when the final 10 sec CD before the game starts happens. Either way will still allow for class specific MMRs so I don’t know what you are going on about.

Condi shatter is a lot easier to handle then the older pu non chrono as a thief tbh.

Are people claiming thief it self is op or jus d/p? I sometimes see power d/d and s/d but they don’t get much hate at all.

D/D is mostly a one trick pony with not a whole lot going on outside of a “teleport onto a guy with precast C&D and backstab” sure it’s an instagib on anything remotely squishy if you can’t see them but that’s about it. By can’t see them I mean someone who is hiding round a corner to teleport or in a small scale fight where you don’t know it’s D/D yet.

S/D I honestly have only seen maybe 3 thieves in WvW running S/D since HoT so have no idea tbh.

The rest of the dislike comes from how apart from shadowstep thieves have very low cool downs on thier skills. Adding on the ability to be immune to all soft CC and get away from absolutely everything except another thief or druid longbow if they start rapid fire at close range as they try to run. It’s like a lot of other HoT specs there’s very little risk and a lot of reward vs anything that has moderate to high risk.

This is from a power shatter perspective though where even 0.5s lapse in attention will mean death. There’s just so little risk in the meta builds now vs non meta and all classes suffer, it’s especially hilarious seeing people act like berserker, DH, scrapper and rev are not part of the problem.

Same for everything though. D/P Daredevil and to some extent staff are pretty overloaded while the rest of the thief is straight garbage being a gimmick at best unless there’s a serious skill disparity.

Utility cooldowns are pretty standard outside of the Daredevil ones which are just absurdly low for whatever reason, though this is the case with every elite. Understand that the mesmer has pretty high cooldowns but its utilities are also typically much stronger per cast as stand-alone abilities. BV’s probably one of the big exceptions in regards to low-cooldown utilities, but depending on the matchup it can have more/less impact than others.

It pretty much comes down to stealth stacking and ease-of-play on the elites, though.

A fair amount of mesmer skills are still vastly unimpressive though.

I’m not a fan of the farm. I don’t think its a surprise to anyone that I would have preferred that the recipes get adjusted instead of just adding another source of leather. That said I disagree with people who are saying that this was incompetence on ANet’s part.

I don’t think this was incompetence so much as Anet is being way too careful with shaking up the economy. They’ve seen what happened with HoT when they jumped the gun and were far too free with manipulating the economy, so they dialed it way back. And then in April we saw the same thing with resonating silvers. Way too much interference. So Anet learned that dialing it back and manipulating it more slowly is a much better approach (which it is).

They have slowly been altering leather and Mystic Coins (but I think they are happy with MC now) for months, and they obviously didn’t want to make too drastic of a change to leather with this farm. So they set the dials incorrectly. Did they make a mistake? Yes, absolutely. I don’t think that this screams incompetence though, like a lot of people in this thread do.

Good idea, terrible poll.
First thing you need to remove is the class daily win. It’s completely and utterly pointless and causes needless classes to be over represented when their daily is up. Just make it into daily win. This from the start removes part of the problem.

This ^-^

Or an daily achiv , that you must collect 10 ’’stars’’ to complete it .
(winning gives you 5 ….
loosing 500-400 gives you 4 ….
playing with the curent 2 daily proffessions achiv gives you 5
playing some characters that are not over represseded (or amulets) that the sysstem chooses gets you 5…
.and getting specific ‘’top stats’’ awards some points too) :P

Just make it so that you have to score 500 points on a single profession. Winning a game will instantly complete the daily, just like now. If you lose, you can still progress the achievement through straight grind if you wanted to. Or hell, ANet could even make it 500 points total, on however many professions if you want. As long as the class specific portion of the daily is removed though it will be a huge plus.

I agree that this class specific wins for daily achievements are a large problem in regards to class stacking.

Do they really need to catch you when you are running with 15 confusion stacks, 10 torment stacks and 3-4 other assorted conditions?

Serious question.

No really.

If you have all those it’s because you were stupid enough to stay and eat a bunch of shatters and must have landed several of them again considering you wasted a condi cleanse before the disengage.

The only way mesmer can apply torment is through shatter and scepter block or unless you stayed for long enough for him to use his 3 chain auto slow arcing projectile on you THREE times to summon 3 illusions so his third autoattack would apply torment with max illusions up, or about 10+ seconds.

15 confusion stacks means you, again, ate a set of shatters and didn’t dodge through the obvious confusing images 2 second channel beam.

You really rolled your face into all of his damage for no reason whatsoever.

It’s about as kittenomeone complaining about dying to ranger traps. It’s plainly avoidable damage with clear delays and requires melee range to maximize.

Small correction, but every skill in the scepter auto chain applies torment, not just the third one. But I agree with you that they won’t get any meaningful torment stacks out of just autoattacking. To get meaningful amount of torment stacks would require the use of shatters or scepter 2

Rev staff was not meant to be a dps weapon, it’s a support weaponset. Comparing thief staff dps and rev staff dps has the same value as comparing fire auto and water auto on staff ele.

A support weaponset you’re stuck in for 10 seconds, meaning if you use a weapon for for staff 3 and 5 because the other skills and the auto are garbage, you’re sitting in 10 seconds of doing virtually no pressure whatsoever.

This is not an excuse to have SotM be a highly damaging attack. Support weapons should be just that, support. Its a conscious decision to switch to them for the support that they bring, and being stuck in that set for 10 seconds is a balance decision. Support weapons should not be dealing high damage period.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree then. 110 thousand people in the sample size is absolutely huge, especially when you consider the number of players that play GW2. According to ArenaNet themselves, 7 million accounts had been created when HoT launched (link below), even if we assume that number has risen to 8 million, we still have a huge sample size relative to the total population. Absolutely huge. Considering the fact that GW2Efficiency statistics can be deemed a convenience sample since they only count those who came out to GW2Efficiency (I think that’s perfectly fair), the size is huge and is therefore statistically significant.

Not true. This is where statistics come in. With such a large sample this is still useful data, if the sample was only a couple thousand then yes, it wouldn’t be of much use. But with over 110 thousand accounts, there are enough accounts on GW2Efficiency to be useful in a statistical sense.

So I feel the need to correct you here because what you’ve stated is dangerously incorrect. The simple fact that gw2e has a large number of accounts on it does not make that information useful in a statistical sense as you claim. What matters far more than raw size of your sample is whether that sample is representative of your population. Let me illustrate this with an example.

Polling is a big part of politics today. Polls always report the number of people polled, and usually that number is a couple thousand. The key is that those couple thousand people are carefully selected so that they represent the broader population that the poll is trying to examine. Now imagine that the poll only contacted people making over 100k and living in cities. Would that still produce data representative of the population in a country as a whole? Obviously not, no matter how many extra people they polled because their sampling is flawed.

The same issue exists with trying to use gw2e as a source of useful information. We’re unable to control the sample, and this means that we’re also unable to draw useful information from it. What if it turns out that most raiders don’t use gw2e because they check gear in other ways? Now the numbers on gw2e are too low. Or if it turns out that mostly raiders use gw2e because of other reasons. Now the numbers are too high. We don’t have any way of getting that sampling information and that makes gw2e a completely worthless source for the purpose of gauging the gw2 community as a whole.

You bring up a good point, but I feel its mostly irrelevant. What you describe is intentionally going out and finding your sample, and cherrypicking people to get a certain narrative out of your findings. That is definitely a problem, but GW2Efficiency does not follow that pattern. That site never went out and decided who would make an account. It never cherrypicked people to include in its statistics, so I don’t feel as if your analogy is the least bit relevant to GW2Efficiency.

Eh I’d rather just change the trait at that point. Mesmer has enough access to confusion imo

Multiple mind stabs would be really fun to use in PvE. I also think that projecting portal would be fine to bring to the game. Its not that OP imo as long as it follows the same pathing rules as everything else. Of course you could still jump to where you wanted to lay it down in order to place it down in locations where the pathing that blink uses wouldn’t work, but I don’t see a problem with allowing us to project portal entre/exeunt to any place that we could walk to within say 15,00 units.

And having an understanding of statistics tells us that Vinceman is correct. A biased sample is unlikely to be representative of the entire population. All GW2E can tell us is what percentage of people who signed up for GW2E have LI’s or MS’s.

And those who joined GW2E aren’t “random” enough?
I think people are underestimating how many are using GW2E for their daily activities, inventory management, crafting guides and not for hardcore play like Raids. There is zero evidence that the GW2E population is mostly a group of hardcore players

Exactly. The most bias I see here is people trying to force their imaginary biases onto the community in GW2Efficiency. It existed before Raids were available, it has dozens of extra, highly useful features that have nothing to do with Raids. It is not designed for raiders. It does not cater to them over any other group of players.

@maddoctor – I agree with you, its just meant as a baseline. It shows that, at best, less than 1/3 of the community raids. Which is what I said in my original post.

representative of GW2 as a whole

I disagree here. We already had discussions here why it is not sure to be representative of GW2 as a whole.

We don’t know if gw2efficiency is problably used more often by raiders than others or if it’s the other way round. There are indications for both.

These numbers are numbers but they actually are of very little value.

Not true. This is where statistics come in. With such a large sample this is still useful data, if the sample was only a couple thousand then yes, it wouldn’t be of much use. But with over 110 thousand accounts, there are enough accounts on GW2Efficiency to be useful in a statistical sense.

And this still doesn’t change the fact of what I said. At most, less than 1/3 of the community raids. Even if you don’t believe in statistics whatsoever and think that people on GW2Efficiency are more predisposed to raiding than general accounts, what I said still holds true. Because it would still mean that less than 1/3 of the people who play this game participate in raids.

With a base of 110 thousand accounts on it, its a large enough sample to be valid and representative of GW2 as a whole. And its a better baseline than the other guesses in this thread since it has actual data, from over a hundred thousand accounts, to back it up.
