as a guy who solos a lot and a guy who plays with a LOT of people, I’d like to see solo ranked and unranked as an option.

Would it really be hard to jury rig the old solo queue system and add two buttons below ranked and unranked queue?

Before PvP Update
Played casual soloQ en some teamQ. If I really focused on playing sPvP, I manage to get in top 1000 of soloQ.

My experience was that I always get the best games when I play off-peak hours. (UTC+1) So during the day before 15.00. Or Saturday or Sunday morning. Team members seem to know what to do on the map, right positioning and playing well. And didn’t AFK, leave or rage.

During peak hours (18:00 – 23:00) I mostly had bad matches. With people AFK, leave, Rage. People didn’t know what to do on the map. Like double capping. Or zerging. Not positioning correctly, not going mid etc.

My win/loss ratio was about 51% with 600 games played

After PvP Update
Since the ladder I set myself the goal I want to reach the top 250 on the ladder (and stay there). I do this by joining by myself in the ranked arena. I have no team.

Now I encounter a lot of bad matches at any time (off-peak and peak) where I play with people who do not position themselves correctly on the map. The opponent is mostly better. It is really frustrating that I win my 1 versus 1 battles and manage to keep points or contest opponents points but still loose the game because the rest of the team is loosing their battles. This results in a lot of losses. The losses where expected because I almost never lose points on the ladder.

Every game takes about 15 minutes. So if you loose 4 games in a row, 1 hour has past and my ladder standing is still the same. Loosing also makes reward and rank progression slower. My win/loss ration on in ranked arena is 40% with 70 games played since beginning of the test ladder. 28 wins and 42 losses. I have 24 points.

Right now I feel burned out. I have spent about 17,5 hours playing, but not progressing much more on the ladder. And encountering a lot of loses, that feel undeserved, because I played well. I can better play unranked, than at least I win more. In unranked my win/loss is 50%. But I do like the idea of the ladder, so that is why i prefer to play ranked.

I hope this story will help to improve the matchmaking experience for people who queue by themselves.

Number one, you never told us what class you play.

Number two, you never told us what you’re losing to.

Number three, people get bad games and bad matches. I personally COULD NOT WIN TODAY! However, I will play tomorrow and get a higher win rate and leaderboard position. Your entire idea of “improvement” dissolves under what is a flawed matchmaking system.

Let me tell you right now that if you quit you’ll never get the respect that improving YOURSELF will give you at the end of the day.

YES, the matchmaking is flawed ATM. But it was IMPLEMENTED THREE WEEKS AGO and actually relies on a point based system where “points” are generated by wins. In other words, there aren’t many “points” to be distributed amongst players to prevent really good players from being paired against and with not so good players. The good news is, it keeps getting better by the day because of no lifers like the guys at the top of the leaderboards like myself. The bad news is, if you care about actually getting rank atm, you have to play a LOT. Later on it will be about who wins and loses against whom, but right now it’s a grind to the top.

I agree the current system is flawed at the moment. I have seen my fair share of “oh god I hate my team” moments. There is no doubt I also play against people where they have absolutely zero chance of winning, often to the point of people quitting after the first fight in my solo queue matches… It’s not fun for anyone, but I’m sure it’s gonna get better.

Yes, matchmaking is flawed at the moment. However, f you want a number to justify your spot in this game then you don’t belong here…

FINALLY, I know that people rage quit and afk a LOT in lower rated games. It TRULY DOES EFFECT EVERYONE!!! I had a game that was 5v2 the other day by the end of it. It was disgusting.

The dishonor system hasn’t been implemented yet, but I think that’s a mistake. The game seems stable enough to where people that accept queues go into them. If you leave then you should be given dishonored but should be able to finish the game. I don’t think that with the current system you need to punish people for not accepting a queue pop, but leavers and class swappers should be punished…

After playing in the wts and rewatching the vods, the Chinese are behind both NA and EU. Individually, they are aspiring players with a desire to win. I would hate to see that potential wasted, especially on people who actually care about the game.

There were 10 other guys waiting in a waiting room for about 3 hours by the time the video was shot. We were SO BORED I would have done anything at that point for entertainment. Wifi was a mess there, no one did anything but sit and try in vain to converse.

So here comes the body tricks, someone does something with their body, we all get a kick out of it. I KNOW THE BEST BODY TRICK IN THE WORLD FOR A BIG kitten MALE. I CAN DO THE MOTHER kittenING BELLY DANCE!

So I show it to the guys and we all get a hilarious kick out of it. SOON ENOUGH, wakkey finds the girl I was flirting with yesterday (She was the chinese caster, I STILL DON’T KNOW YOUR NAME AND I HOPE YOU ARE SINGLE!) and gets her a chair right next to me (wakkey is the best wingman in the world, I love you).

They tell me to do the belly dance, and at first I’m like “HELL NO!”. Three minutes later after about 11 other people start staring at me (half this mob had their IPhones ready in video mode), I say “kitten it, I’m doing it”. I lift up my shirt and show her what no person should be forced to witness on no notice.

The first look she gives me was a look of PURE HORROR AND DISGUST. From then on I said it can’t get worse than that, then look over and see about 30 people gathered around with smart phones out video taping me.

I finish the deed and take my seat next to her. After that, she starts laughing her head off and frantically starts trying to tell me something. She translates it to her Co-Caster who speaks better English than she does and he tells me:

“she wants to sing while you do the belly dance”

so I say kitten it. NOW, THE CO-CASTER PULLS OUT HIS SMARTPHONE AND VIDEO TAPES ME FROM THE FRONT.

She starts singin, I do the deed TO THE MOTHER kittenING BEAT OF THE SONG, WHILE SHE CLAPS!

Then we settle down and live the legend. I knew I shouldn’t have, but I just wanna have fun and that sure did the trick.

Anyway 4 bunkers require LESS rotations than 3 bunkers + 2 glass cannons (That being thief and MESMER pretty much always need to roam together cause if there’s a thief or some condispam around a lone mesmer is a dead mesmer)

The only words I kept telling people during the entire thing was “This is too real/surreal/esports/alive/crazy to me”, “this is too much… for me”.

Yeah. They’re taking embarrassingly long to do so, but they promised they’ll post it on YouTube at some point.

We LITERALLY just got back to the states 12 hours ago. Everyone is jetlagged as hell, be patient. Also, the English, live casted VODs that Blu received got corrupted because the power in the studio went out as he was transffering them. That’s probably the reason for the delay. He’s a guy who just got off an 18 hour long flight then woke up and casted the games that I didn’t even show up to because I passed out so hard my alarm couldn’t wake me up.

He’ll get them up soon. I also hope that the EU/NA/Ramone will get together and share the pictures we all took with the community.

Every single one of us had a blast, it felt like every one of us were brothers. Great times with all, major props to TCG, you guys played some of the best games we’ve ever had to play and I would have been proud to split the prize 50-50 JUST to be able to play those games again. It was insane.

I would like to correct some impressions people had about this entire thing.

Firstly, a lot of people are blaming us winning based off our comp. That’s straight up insulting. Every player on our team was on a top team and absolutely dominated on their respective teams before joining the abjured. Don’t disrespect us because our mains are considered OP. There’s a good reason why, but don’t forget that a lot of impressions about what is OP came FROM US! Furthermore, we CREATED this comp and were forced to replace TWO players. With those two players (chaith and toker), we didn’t even practice as much because the rest of us were burned out by playing 3-10 hours every day.

Also, someone said I never made it to a top team and considering I absolutely dominated NA with TDM in the same style as I did with Abjured, that’s just a joke. Just because you weren’t around since release to see me destroy this game in the same style doesn’t mean I didn’t do it before. It’s not the engi, it’s more practice than you can even begin to imagine. The only other good rabid engi out there is Texbi. If you think our comp is broke, I dare you to run it and beat us with it. I WANT you to try!

THIRDLY, the main reason why I think that TCG lost, from my POV, was sizer not running shadowstep and consistently going far to face me. I personally didn’t scrim TCG in the hopes they wouldn’t realize that sizer needed to run shadowstep to push far vs me.

FOURTHLY, That was the best kitten week of my entire life, I was treated like a star. If putting your life on hold for a week, going to a different country, getting drunk every night and then WINNING 25,000 DOLLARS isn’t esports, I don’t know what is.

FIFTHLY, Blu and Grouch did an amazing job casting it I thought. I haven’t watched the Jebro cast yet, but it really did hurt to have the two guys who actually were invited to go cast not be able to do it live because of technical issues. It ruined the entire thing for Blu and I can’t really blame him for it. He’s a great guy and works harder for the game for less pay than ANYONE else!
I love this game! I hope to actually write something about the full experience we had in Beijing, it was the most amazing trip I could have asked for. Thanks to Everyone involved and everyone who watched it!

Also, I wasn’t able to attend because I witnessed a highschool-aged girl get hit by a car while crossing a busy road. I stopped by and waited for the ambulance which didn’t take too long, but I was a bit too shaken to give an interview by the time I got home.

we are not even close to being ready for that much esports. Even if all upcoming events are incredibly successful, I doubt we’d see that much cash for over a year or more.

If you really enjoy fighting other players, spvp may be better. The fights in that are more balanced as no one has the advantage in gear or upgrades. But I dont get mad at ppl for running in wvw because unless you are holding or attacking an objective, there really is no point to it.

But I thought WvW was about fighting over stuff for your “world”. My mistake.

Honestly, a lot of the classes aren’t OP and a lot of super strong builds came about more from the sigil/rune changes than any sort of balance changes to classes. It’s more like, “what runes/sigils go so well with certain classes that it makes them broke as all hell”. I don’t believe that a ton of changes to things like engis or eles are required at this point when what made them so strong the last patch was the changes to sigils and runes…

To that end, battle/cele/hoelbrak + lots of heals and vigor seem to be one of the go-tos in this meta.

Fire + air is stupid strong for burst classes.

Balthazar for condi engis is dumb too.

Nightmare is incredibly borked and total BS for necros.

The duration of poison on doom is a little too high as well IMO…

Pack runes are quite incredible and underplayed on just about everything…

EDIT: I will say the one thing that DOES need to be changed currently would have to be the strength of turrets… It gets pretty old pretty quick….

I’d recommend stealing a page from Warhammers book and give WvW instanced PvP with 15-30 players on each team. You could also tie it to the World Score like warhammer did; the points would be distributed every tick based on the number of games and the servers win/loss ratio. The larger number of games, the larger the impact.

I could see it as instanced PvP with WvW mechanics, WvW sized maps and strategies with somthing like 15-30 players on each side (depending on the map).

I think this would be one of the easiest things to implement, and a great additional system. It satisfied the competitive players in warhammer online, and only god knows that the GvGers haven’t been thrown a stick outside of that arena in obsidian.

To make it even easier, you could give rewards similar to the PvP reward tracks (think, WvW reward tracks). The reward tracks really did help PvP a lot, and I honestly feel like WvW players are getting screwed with their current reward system.

Furthermore, it would actually give folks a decent fight that has WvW mechanics in it. WvW at large is just waiting 2 hours for one decent fight. The game mode itself has the mechanics and fun in it, but the main problem I find in WvW is that it takes so kitten long to find a satisfying fight…

Just my idea, I doubt it’d ever be listened to and this post will be torn to pieces in a ravenous storm of hate for esports.

Nos and Caed had to bow out for school reasons (the date is literally their finals week). Props to them, as well as backpack for helping us get chaith and toker up to snuff to still stay on top.

For a while I did, but it was mainly to play against comps that hard countered my condi engi with stuns and condis.

Also, to everyone not excited about this tourney and point to the previous ones, I feel pretty bad for you.

The horrendous balancing over the last year + prevented anyone from even caring about the game. Now we have 2 top teams with their rosters filled with stellar players. This is something that has never happened before, especially in a decent meta.

Pax was a joke to begin with after the disaster of dhuumfire. Get with the times ladies, we’re goin esports.

Hello members of Abjured, the team that won and will be going to China, each and every one of you have noted that the DDOS attacks most likely perpetrated by Rough Boys was inconvenient and stressful but Anet and Grouch did everything correctly and you stand by this.

I would have the EXACT same attitude if my team came out victorious with only one member occasionally disconnecting. How would you feel if for instance in the very first match, just after 90 sec ostrich was dced out the entire game and it was a true 4v5 from the start? Then the next game there were no dc’s and you won, and the third game not one, but TWO of your members were DDOSed out just as you were securing victory.

I understand that I come from the losing perspective and you come from the winning perspective, but what I truly feel would be best for the NA community would be a redo of the WTS Qualifier. Myself and everyone who had team members effected by this issue would make sure to have a different IP address specifically for the redo and it would be a spectacular event on par with the wondrous gameplay that EU brought us.

Even when the VODs come out who wants to watch games with no skill involved, just who has the most members playing? Who wants to see 4v5, 3v5, 4v4 in basically EVERY SINGLE MATCH.

We won when we were the only ones DCing with a set of “honor” rules that were agreed upon before the match. Kaypud sat out when I DC’d, but when I came back into the game I would DC instantly or be so laggy that I should have just sat out.

Even though I didn’t really participate, the fact that my team pretty much 4v5’d the finals should show that it doesn’t need to be redone… Yes, I know that doesn’t change how you feel and I understand your perspective entirely, but asking to redo the thing is pretty crazy IMO

I hate to say it, but I’m also leaning to the rough boiz being the perpetrators. All of the DDOS’s I suffered were too well timed for someone not to have done them in support of them… It was never when they were ahead and never when they were catching up.

It was egregiously well timed to the point where it had to have been someone who was watching the game, at LEAST.

I just want to forget about yesterday. I feel really sorry for everyone involved and slightly guilty for forcing my team into a scenario where we had the chance of losing what was going to be ours. I’m sorry to the people who feel they got screwed out of a chance to go to China, but we were the sure winners anyways… We were on every kitten day for 4-6 hours practicing. I’ve kept that schedule up since before TOL2.

I’ve practiced far more than anyone else for this and I got screwed out of even playing in it… The entire time we fought rough boiz, I was getting DDOS’d at the most opportune times. There was one game where in foefire they went for a lord rush (because they were going to lose otherwise) that we barely held off even though I got DDOS’d right when they got to the lord. I almost kitten myself, but my team held it off 4v5 for the fourth game against them…

Basically, my entire team 4v5’d. Even with the honor system in place (as many complaints as there were), I’d like to point out that those games would have been 500-0, and the last game in the series nearly was until I got DDOS’d again. I had a 2 second+ delay even when I was in the game. It’s obvious something fishy went down and no one expected it.

I’m glad this was just a qualifier, but my god was that insane. Grouch did a great job and made the right choices. Props to the ESL admins and the casters who stuck through a grueling day of drama and esports, as well.

You’ve obviously never been involved in online esports before, DDOS’ing is so rampant that nearly every top player in other games uses a proxy for skype, and will do whatever possible to keep their IP hidden. Blizzard and Riot employees have released statements with info on how to prevent DDOS’ing in the past, as well as many forum posts and guides.

No, it has EVERYTHING to do with Aanet, If your involved with any online esports you should already know how rampart DDOSing is, that’s why nearly every other online esports has inbuilt features or rulesets to cater for this problem. Whether its a pause feature in most moba’s and rts, or to replay if a DC happens within certain amount of time like how online WoW tournaments do it.

The DC’s are from individual players getting DDOS’d. It’s ostensible to be unprepared for such a scenario because the folks organizing the tourney have no way to prevent us from getting ddos’d. I know it’s very frustrating and disappointing for not only myself, who actually suffered the DDOS multiple times, but for everyone else involved, but the more you let it rain on your parade the more successful it was…

P.S. I hope that VODs will be released, as embarrassing as they are!

Judging by the NA super pugs rooster changes with some super high caliber substitution based on their aged experienced and course lets not forget the leaderboard ranking and the how many matches they played in ranked battle(course game is boring w/o politics),considering the fact they lost 2people who are good at 1v1 scenario, i say EU already got the gold, again (dem eu besterd).

The main thing I truly felt made me an exceptional player was trying to play other classes with the perspective of figuring out what their weaknesses are.

I know it’s a lot to ask, but knowing every spec and every skill in the game and being able to react to when someone else uses them is what makes players go from decent to great. Once you learn how other classes operate, fighting them becomes a whole lot easier.

For example, when the game first came out I found it really hard to figure out if a mesmer clone was actually a mesmer or not. After a lot of frustration I finally decided to roll a mesmer and try it out and found it was a lot harder than just spawning a bunch of NPCs. In the process, when I played engi against a mesmer I found it five times easier to kill a mesmer because I knew what they were trying to do to me and how they were going to try to kill me.

If you think a certain class is beyond overpowered and you feel like you’ve already mastered your first class, walk a mile in their shoes and you’ll be a much better player.

Warriors have the rifle butt skill that doesn’t CC the user.
The cooldown is 12, and deals more damage, kb distance 400.

Rangers, have a longbow skill that doesnt cc the user, does more damage, has the potential to send enemies flying to a distance of 600, and has a cooldown of 12.

And lets not forget about traited Necromancers (and Ranger pets) and their ability for fear people for ages.

CC uptime, not distance sir. Overcharged shot is a 3s CC on its target on a 15s CD. That’s one second of stun for every five seconds. The only thing that rivals that is earthshaker, which requires adrenaline ;\

Also, to the guy who said I don’t find success on power engi, you missed hundred nades and HGH. Just because I’d prefer to play another class instead of a power engi doesn’t mean I don’t know how to play a power engi… I never said condi engi wasn’t broken, I always thought balth was broken since they changed it.

The damage on cele isn’t “reliable” in that it’s dependent on battle for might stacks. It also does straight up LESS damage in favor of insane amounts of sustain to get the most out of its CC uptime.

The one thing to remember and that I keep pointing out and get shouted down for is that TCG regularly go weeks without playing with each other. Last night was the first time TCG had played together in over a fortnight.

I spoke to both ROM and Helseth last night, and after the third game when they went 2-1 down in the “series” Helseth told me to watch the next game. It was obvious that TCG started taking things more seriously. ROM went back to warrior, their rotations were quicker, Helseth seemed to be on every point at once due to his portalling and they won the match fairly comfortably in the end (prompting a “told you” from Helseth). Denshee seemed to have something of an off night though, not sure if he’s changed his build or what but he seemed to drop really quickly.

I know it wasn’t full Abjured (but come on, it’s not like they picked up random pugs, their “pugs” were some of NAs top players) and I know they had to deal with the EU lag, but those of you that think TCG will get stomped need to think again. These are going to be some incredible WTS matches (provided both make it obviously, I’d be surprised if they didn’t)

I would like to see TCG go to NA to repeat though, just to see how big the difference is. With the precision the mesmer/thief burst needs to use at times that server lag may cause all the difference, but I still want to see it happen!

The games were great, The abjured comp is a tough one to fight against and they are incredible players. I’ve never watched Nos stream before but some of his condi spiking was incredible, and his awareness and moving is second to none.

If I may be so bold to offer a suggestion, I would recommend turning rifle 4 into a 2s daze and remove the self CC and well as keep the condi clear. I think this will still allow the fluid combat that gw2 players are used to. It would also prevent both players from being CC’d to incredible degrees which is really fustrating to watch.

I streamed the first game but I was lagging too bad and bowed out for phantaram. I don’t think I landed a single ground targeted skill all game and got decimated in all my 1v1s. It’s too embarrassing to link ;_;

Also, it wasn’t our full roster but toker, zoose and reevzy are good players no matter how unfamiliar we are with their playstyle. We picked up toker to replace nos in WTS, but we haven’t played together kitten until just tonight.
