So guardian is in a difficult place since it relies heavily on your team also being able to do damage, since yours is not as high as other DPS classes.
That being said, DH is actually a fairly good build for a lot of 1v1s, and very useful in teamfights.
Here’s what I use, and it is quite effective.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNAT8dn8cCdDhVDBWdC8DhlEiSe5j+sPb/+vA8aZDgEA-TJBFABEcRAEvMgc7PAwTAAAI will say this: playing DH in this meta requires far more work from your part than it will for other players to beat you. Be smart about how and when you use your CDs.
This. I’d only say that guardians aren’t “viable” at the highest levels of the game where you’re fighting 5 other guys in teamspeak.
I’ve seen a variety of guardians kick kitten , but right now a lot of tanky supports are around that they simply cannot deal with.

My suggestion is to steadily reduce the strength of it by reducing the stats themselves. If they have a problem with the amulet being too strong, they could just nerf the stats instead of removing the playstyle.
I don’t believe the balance team thought of the ramifications of removing the amulet. We already have a history of these actions, and it wasn’t pretty. The proper way to deal with cele was to reduce the amount of stats it gave since it already gave hundreds more stats in total. Because they simply removed it, it killed out d/d ele, warrior and countless other builds.
Honestly I believe the last thing the game needs right now is to reduce diversity further.
You’re not removing a play style by taking out this amulet. There are at least 3 other amulets that should help maintain most current condition builds. Now there’s a choice and you give up something by your selection of amulet, where as before you got far too much without giving up anything.
That’s why my recommendation is to remove the current efficacy of the amulet by reducing the stats. If it’s cut back by 200, it would be in line with other amulets, and if anything I think this type of diversity is what is needed right now.
Carrion would work just fine for necromancers, not so much for warriors/mesmers.

From the interview, it seemed like he was telling it how it is from his perspective. I mean, he has a good point.
The sad thing is, I understand how he feels. I was DDoS’d during qualifiers for the first WTS along with many others on the NA side. Grouch pretty much let the match PZ vs Radioactive go for over 13 restarts. The stream was cut and basically were told that we could either replay the matches another day, or finish it today. Everyone voted to finish it that day. Despite it basically being a 4v4 at that point, we (The Abjured) still qualified.
While it was not “fun”, the makers of the tournament saw it through in a fair way, and at the end of the day nobody had any complaints about who won. The videos of the matches were later compiled and posted on youtube.
This is MY experience getting DDoS’d, and let me tell you it is the most frustrating thing to possibly have happen, let alone if you lose a match because of it, but it was presumably handled better than Argi’s case.
I’m not particularly familiar with the circumstances, but people should actually watch the interview instead of judging him seeming “unprofessional” for talking about what was asked of him in an honest way. It’s ostensible towards the end of the season that some will lose interest, especially when they don’t win!
It seems like people forget to realize that this tournament is actually ran by ESL and not ANet. I don’t get the salt here really. Yeah Grouch let you replay gazillion times … so what? It was unfair to Team PZ who had taken the necessary measures to counter the DDoS. You didn’t deserve to go there if it is how you say it. Never forget that beside money, you play for the people. That’s what sports is all about. Forcing 1-2k people to wait for your highness because you are too cheap to spend 20$ on DDoS protection is not sportsmanship.
And LOL at the “communist community” remark Made my day at what lengths people go to make themselves feel better on the internet Not everyone lives in a 3rd world communistic country mate.
That community that I work for takes a direct hit because I don’t join random TS’s to give away my IP anymore. Like the above said, once someone gets ahold of your IP, depending on your ISP it could take up to a day to get another! There isn’t some magical solution to DDoS’.
And reread my post, grouch didn’t let US play a gazillion times, we agreed to play even under the circumstances.
Surely you don’t understand a thing about what happened during the qualifiers, PZ was getting DDoS’d as well. Saying I didn’t deserve to go is a joke too. If you believe that it’s alright for viewers to have a tournament ruined by a DDoS, I don’t have anything further to point out.

Another joke nerf they don’t care.
I think this is a sign they’re doing better at caring. If they did small nerfs/buffs like these more regularly, the game would be a lot more interesting!
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
Good nerfs! Thank you anet for not overlooking these!
This is a really awkward period in balancing because right now a lot of people are eating the nerfs and trying to fill in the gaps left behind. The most important idea in this is to get more balance FASTER! The meta since HoT has been simple, the strongest specs were way too strong for way too long. The community is festering, and balance is at its core. 3 month balance patches are not fast enough!

“utility” staff.
Staff messes people up, it’s a great weapon. The only thing that I could see would be a decent ranged power weapon, because staff doesn’t suit it for power damage.
But really though, asking for a 1,200 range weapon right after HoT came out is a pretty big stretch.
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
I would like to point out that eles get CHUNKED by condis when diamond skin falls off. It gets exceptionally frustrating when it doesn’t fall off, too. In my opinion, diamond skin is a dysfunctional trait for both eles and anyone trying to fight them.
I would like to see them rework DS so that it reduces condi damage by 50% while above 75% hp or so. This way eles would still be able to get pressured in the very least by conditions, yet they are actively able to keep the reduction in damage while having to clear themselves.
Currently diamond skin is just a bad trait…

Consider bumping my long writeup on the issue: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Queuing-Outside-of-HotM/
I SAID ESPURTZ MORE IMPORTANT!
I would be streaming and making esports, but solo queueing netted me this…
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
For the upper ends of the pvp community, queue times are beyond miserable. This is getting to a level where the ratio that we spend in queue in game is about 2-20/1.
We spend literally 15 minutes onwards to the extreme of 2 hours + just to get a game. We do it faithfully and accept our queues, so afking should not be a problem if we are simply given the ability to access the game while we wait. AFKing becomes a bigger problem at this point when we can do absolutely nothing but stand in heart of the mists.
Seriously A-net, this is one of the reasons why I quit before. I’m begging for quicker pops and a way to stay in game without having to wait hours a day alt-tabbed.
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
I would love to find of a solution to this problem. Its a big barrier for new players learning the game.
Brain dump:
1.How many of your own cooldowns must you know to be effective. Skills? Traits? Sigils? Runes? Attunements? Kits? Transforms? Everything?
2.How many cooldowns are too many cooldowns / whats the minimum number to know?
3.Same question for enemies. How much skill is involved with remembering enemy cooldowns?
4.Would this new piece of UI benefit PvE the same amount?
5.Where could this UI live?
First thing that pops into my mind would look just like the quick-loot tray on the right side of the screen with a scrolling list of ordered cooldowns showing name/icon. (No loot in PvP)
I can’t think of any way this could work for enemies.
After two years, I can’t believe anyone hasn’t answered this yet…
1. To be as effective as possible, you must remember as many cooldowns as you can and inherently incorporate that into decision making and play. Things such as runes and sigils are pretty difficult to master, and I’d argue only a top level player could remember their CDs.
2. “Too many cooldowns” doesn’t really have much of an effect as you would think, and as a feature of the UI I would assume it would be available as an option. GW2 is already a game that has fewer skills than most other MMOs. It’s actually quite easy to learn your own class, but the main issue is the difficulty in remembering and incorporating that into your play. In other words, the lack of available information about cooldowns damages a lower-level players capabilities to learn about them, which is an even bigger disaster than information overload.
3. This is probably the most important of them all. To me, knowing what you’re opponent is going to do is tantamount to success. It can’t be understated how important this is. Enemies displaying their ICDs would be a BIG step to helping newer players become intermediate players.
4. I don’t think PvE would benefit in enemies having ICDs as much and that would hurt the fun of it. Personal ICDs would go a great way to helping players in PvE as much as PvP know more about their own class.
5. Dunno m8
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
I understand that a big problem with PvP in an MMO is that skills are shared with PvE. Balancing one mode will inevitably affect the other mode.
Would it be hard to implement a separate skill balance that exist only in PvP? For example, one skill does one thing in PvE but does a slightly different thing when in PvP.
This way, both modes can be effectively balanced.

bro bro bro bro bro: you’re just 1 man on a 5 man team. You’re only 20% responsible for every win OR loss you’ve ever had. That being the original reason why leaderboards never meant a thing to me.
I like to think about it in terms of being 1 man in a 10 man game.
Sadly though, the way the game is set up is that if one person falls flat on their face the entire team suffers consequences that they can’t even understand because they weren’t the ones who screwed up.
If something goes wrong somewhere on the map, your entire team suffers for minutes on end. The game is a steamroll if done right, and if your team screws up you can expect to get absolutely shrekt.

There is literally nothing you can do about it because we play a team game. you have chosen to queue with random people who WILL throw your games from time to time.
Yea, it sucks to lose because some guy didn’t take the most blatantly obvious course of action. It sucks A LOT! It’s rage inducing, soul sucking and demeaning, but that’s what it means to be a part of a team.
The way I’ve handled it after over 14k queue’d games is to just focus on what I do instead. If you do the best that YOU can in a given situation, even if that situation is just a giant mess because of your team, then that’s all YOU can do right?

I guess I have a really bad memory, because I remembered Absurd dominating the first few weeks. They won weeks 1 and 2, then Abjured week 3 and 4, then Absurd week 5, then Abjurd took over. Oh. The ESL site doesn’t have week 2. I guess I’m right for once. The Absurd was better than the Abjured, while it existed (before Nos left it). After WTS1, Nos joined Abjured and kicked OE, and Absurd was pretty much dead. During the Abjured’s pre-WTS time, it was not #1 overall, just #1 for the teams that were able to go to the WTS.
I would like to state, for the record, I was forced to play condi engi by my team for china and to view the losses as practice. Also, chaith and toker were FORCED to pick up the game after months of little practice and we had to get them up to snuff. If you actually payed any attention to vods before stating an opinion you’d clearly see that we struggled based on nos hard countering our only on-the-game roamer and toker and chaith out of practice by a kittenLOAD….
Alas, no one actually cares about gameplay. They just want to make their opinions without watching vods. Little did I know they thought bad of me because I can’t play a rabid condi engi vs a carrion necro while trying to get two new teammates up to snuff.
The idea of the absurd was to play with toker and chaith because nos and caed didn’t really make any attempt to go. That’s a fact. Being forced to play a class that is directly hard countered for “practice” is hardly any sort of indication of what the absurd was or how good they were…
PUHLEEZE. I picked up cele rifle in one day and almost beat the abjured with a brand spanking new team after china. Watch those vods too.

daaaaaaaaamnnnnnnnn does it feel good to be wrong
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
You know.
There is a Polish movie(old one) “Wielki Szu”(Big Shu). It’s a movie about hazard game, poker, money and mentality. Making whole movie short, when you’re playing a game, you have to think about winning the game, not about money. Money quickly blind people.
As you have said, you were not mentally prepared. Probably mostly thinking “if we win, $5k” “if we lose, nothing” “if” “if” “if”. And obviously all those people, light add additional pressure.
I’m sure next time, you’ll be less stressed, and you won’t feel like you have 5kg put on each finger. That’s my opinion alone.
I agree with that sentiment under any other circumstances. But reality hits hard and adrenaline is real. It’s not stress, it’s being more alive than you ever could be without facing death.
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
If the abjured doesn’t win then it’d be an upset of the largest caliber.
To be perfectly blunt, the abjured has had, IN THE LEAST, 40-50x as much practice, as a 5 man in teamspeak, than any of the other participants.
If they don’t win it’d be bad for the game or it’d be someone throwing….
Furthermore, playing in WTS Beijing was one of the most nerve wracking moments of my life. You couldn’t possibly understand without being there. The next four to six GW2 games mean you win 5,000 dollars and go home a champ or all that work means nothing. Without that mindset walking into it, you won’t win. But when the game starts, your adrenaline is pumping so god kitten hard that your fingers won’t operate the way you want to and auto-pilot kicks in.
4/5 of the abjured proved individually they can handle the pressure. I personally hope that noscoc flops, but I don’t think he will given the experience the other 4 provide.
Either way, good luck to all! I hope the chinese team come in third at least :P

Lol, I have seen some improvement in him in the past week as well. I see you guys a lot lately (almost every night). Still not sure why you have been bombarding unranked with your team but hey, whatever floats your boat. I seem to only get you guys when I am solo though, kind of weird but true non the less. I hope Hugh gets mid air imob bug and notices how broken that is too; or maybe the entangle that keeps you imob’ed even after it goes away (with no roots or imob condi) and you still can’t move. I am sure you know what I am talking about lol. Definitly seems to be a lot of imob bugs out there that have been plaguing us for a while now.

No one has ever been far off from beating the abjured. Their biggest weapon is making people lose hope.
If it was the same five players with different names you’d see a difference when they queue in team queues.
As far as beating them in esports? People have never been far off. To be perfectly blunt it’s nearly impossible without a certain level of dedication to the game and five decently skilled players.
any ideas to “counter” them are completely asinine given that the entire idea behind their success is driven by raw skill alone. That’s how it was made, that’s how it’s done. Don’t sit on your kitten and argue about it, go play and get better instead.
I assure you that if someone took the time and played as much as they have recently, they’d drop more than a few games. Simple fact is that all the no-lifers are on that team.

Get over yourselves. Posting videos isn’t always about “showing off.” Many times it’s to show a new build, and how the build works. Many times it’s to help teach others how to play a particular spec. Many times it’s to show the strengths and weaknesses of the class. Sure, some people want to just show off but that’s not the only reason. So don’t act like everyone who posts a video of wins is just some egotistical noob. (No, I’ve never posted a video, myself.)
To answer the op, videos are often made quite honestly for entertainment purposes. Speaking for myself, I don’t want to watch a video of someone getting killed over and over. That’s not entertaining. But I do appreciate when those who create videos show themselves getting killed because it does keep a sense of realism in the videos.
I never said there was anything wrong with it. I THOROUGHLY enjoy this video, for example.

Some criticism is necessary both for an individual and organization, without it we would potentially never see any improvement. Unfortunately what I see on these forums is nothing like criticism, what I see is a collection of unconstructive posts jotted down in anger and frustration, it’d be better if people would communicate their idea in a coherent and civil manner, never forgetting that their opinion is not the absolute truth and as such it will be contested by other people as it should.
The forums used to be fun to read, now it’s all doom and gloom….a shame really, many features we see today were suggested by posts during the years, now I don’t see how the devs will ever be able to find good meeting discussion material with all this negativity. My apologies for any grammar mistake, eng not really my 1st lang.
Even if english isn’t your first language, you still wrote out one of the most coherent diagnoses of the forums I’ve seen in a while. The only thing I’d like to correct is that it always has been doom and gloom.
The forums are such a mess that not even developers can take them seriously (if they ever did). The community itself needs to clean up its act. If your opinion isn’t solidly based from your in-game experience then please be silent. If you aren’t willing to accept that your words are likely to be read by actual people who work on this game for a living then you need to understand that you’re drowning out the critics that actually want this game to improve.
The forums are a pool of players that have been grinding the same thing over and over (I should add less than the 1% of pvp’ers), whether they competed in weeklies/automated or not, people wanted what the pvp developers promised (pvp ladder tiers) but we all know the low population doesn’t sustain this.
Even you slightly became bitter because you wanted the game to succeed, it largely failed on its promises (after the entire gw1 pvp team left gw2). It’s fine to be optimistic, but the devs haven’t shown any good faith in 2.5 years to justify the slow progression besides their upper management (shots fired).
I wouldn’t say I’m an optimist, I’m more a realist. The pace of development has been increasing. Things that the forums have begged for have been answered, and now we find ourselves with players that actually have money on the mind.
We’re on the brink… If you keep your hopes up I’m sure good things will happen

I’d say you hit the nail on the head.
Currently, there is a large number of newer players that are struggling to find teams. Those teams then struggle to find a reason to play together.
A-net needs to make that reason. If anything I’d say that some type of exclusive team-based pvp reward (armor sets, weapon skins, minis, finishers, reward tracks for players in the esl etc…)

there are three ways to exploit a turret engis weakness.
#1: Kill the kittening engi.
I know they’re tanky, but as an engi they are particularly weak to conditions. Conditions are effective because of their extremely limited condi clear (just like all engis).
Another thing to note is their single stunbreak that requires their thumper turret to be destroyed/not placed. If you walk up to a point with a turret engi and see his thumper turret, CC him!
#2: DESTROY THE ROCKET TURRET ASAP
This little guy is very weak to large amounts of physical damage but constitutes about 75% of a turret engis damage…. If an engi’s rocket turret is down, he wont have it back by the time he’s dead more than likely. Any other turret (except for net turret) is NOT worth focusing.
#3: Fight the engi before he lays down his turrets.
It’s usually not good advice to go ahead and fight in roads, but a turret engi is literally a sitting duck without his turrets up. If I know a turret engi died recently, I’ll usually go attempt to fight him in the roads as a high DPS class. This makes sure the turret engi is either forced to lay his turrets where they won’t be effective or I’ll just straight kill him.

i think the point is, as we all know, that current “leaderboards” are based on quantity and not quality lol
This. I hope they pay careful attention to this. People DO care about leaderboards. If you’re going to have a flawed one you may as well not have one at all….
It just seems we’ve gone from one extreme to another. Before we had guys with 5 wins at the top of the leaderboards because their ranking was so volatile. Now we have a system where total games won is the only thing that matters at the end of the day. If they find a happy medium it’d be great….

I’m happy as a clam and I wouldn’t rather be doing anything else. I feel lucky to be able to say I’m trying to make this game my job.
It’s also worth it to note that I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t go to China and have the best trip of my life.
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
Those people do not work, and do not go to school. They are either young kids/ college kids on school holiday break, or they are jobless hobo’s. If they want to sit around and PvP for 9 hours a day, so be it. Why care?
yea people like this actually exist.
I know because I am one ;_;

It’s not a bug. Not considered by the developers? Sure. But that includes a lot of other stuff in the game too.
People have been using the same exact mechanic since the beginning of the game.
Direct your mad somewhere else and not at the players.
Phanta, I remember you asked grouch if this “trick” was intended or not on a bus in china.
He said it was being looked at.
Please don’t spread lies. There has been nothing similar to this in the game since day one. The level of efficacy for what it does as far as “cancelling” goes is simply ridiculous. If you believe that this bug is intended and is going to stay then you’re dead wrong.
It’s hard to defend it really.

Engi OP? Never!
Those suddenly 50 top players who play engi and can compete with anyone have all just improved drastically at once!
Maybe your definition of “top” needs a fine tuning…
There are hardly 5 “top” engi players on EU AND NA…
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
I personally think that condis are stronger than rifle is in a LOT of situations. The main reason I’m playing rifle is because it’s good against necros.
