All classes have the ‘ability’ to support, themselves and others. Some have more of it and some less. But I’d argue that there is no such thing in gw2 as a support role.
The only roles I see are damage dealers.
Some deal more dmg and are squishier, some are tankier and soak up the dmg, but they still do dmg.
The supportish abilities and effects are just mashed in every prof.
Some players try to make pure healing builds or pure buffish builds but they will never be as efficient as the different dps builds
Edit: In my opinon**
I’m a little confused as to the point of this thread? These generalized setups don’t have much play in GW2. You can go full damage while still giving more than sufficient support. No need to split damage and support.
Yes. But the different between a Support and a Carry is the effectiveness (quality) of the Support Skills Duration. Example a Carry can stun for 2-3 seconds, a Support can stun for 8 seconds.
Its just example and might chance for the balance sake.
I don’t agree that there are or will be some kind of Trinity.
Most builds focus on completing the content as efficient as possible, whether it be wvw or dungeons.
Some professions can buff up/cc the/a team and still deal enough dmg to complete the goal more efficiently than the support you talk about.
Edit: I just took a closer look at your first post and I’m very confused. I’m not sure what you’re trying to Point out.

Stability on mobile mortar would be nice. However, it is a long range weapon and from wvw/pvp perspective I don’t Think it will be needing stability since it’s a long range weapon, whereas the flame thorwer is a mid-range to melee weapon. :/
And I’ve heard, eventhough it’s not mentioned on Dulfy, that the grenade kit will have its range reduced to 900 and the mortar kit will become the new long range weapon for the engineer
Ouch. I haven’t watched the full stream or read any of the professions forums. That’s a pretty nasty hit to grenades.
Nades are reduced to 900 and the trait: grenadier only increases velocity and radius
with the stats being removed from the traits I Think there will be alot of fun new metas.
For example, now u can go explosives as a dmg line, inventions or alch as a sustain line, and Tools as a utility line.
For those of you who have played Archeage, the specs work like that; two comdo specs and one off spec. I’m thinking we’ll see alot of builds like that. Gonna be fun!
let’s say you’re a WvW:er and you want a mokittenps build (i don’t evne know if the mortar will be good for dsp, but lets say it will)
The build could look something like this:
Explosives:
Rocket belt thingy or grenadier
Dmg vs vuln
mortar
Inventions:
healskill → blast finisher
healsplos
bunker down → medkit at ur loaction (sweet sustain for a longrange dps)
Tools
mainly bcs speedy kits (which is kinda sad)
Something like that
Mortar should be a fileds kit so I dont expect some ridiculous dps. I am more curious about what fields we get there. Now engi bit suffer from quite short fields but with longer ones like smoke, fire, water can mortar be really gamechanging with all those new blasts
Personally, I hope we’ll have rather nice dmg with it since the devs said it will be our ranged choice instead of ‘nades. Ofc it will have a focus on fields but I’d prefer a spamable #1 skill rather than a cd and blast finisher.
I don’t see why they wouldn’t. The racial utilities have f-skills.
“Explosive Rocket Belt Thingy” and SD could be fun
They said the trait Changes will go live Before the expac, but I didn’t quite get if that was for the mortar change too or not.
Nice idea!
I think we used to have a trait that dropped flamethrowers and elixir guns when we were downed.
In contrary to what people may think you can do whatever you feel like in wvw. It is your game time and an open World map. Just the way noone can force you to leave people duelling alone, they can’t force you to stay away from raids.
With that being said there are a few things you should keep in mind.
1: if you decide to join in on a structured Guild vs Guild. You will probably get chased down without getting any help.
2: If a Guild wants you to leave them alone during a normal wvw run it is not because they are mean, but because it’s harder to keep track of their own people and randoms that dont know whats happening.
Though if you actually know what’s going on. You know how to position yourself and are able to read the situation, I’d say go for it! join them even if they ask you not to.
I’m a roamer myself so I don’t give two what anyone else Thinks. Though, I do defend the concept of duelling and leaving duellers alone. But I realise I can’t make people do that. It’s their game jsut as much as it is mine.
But it goes the other way around too. Once these people start getting ganked themselves by the duellers noone can force me to help them.
Noone can force you to stay away from a zerg, and you can’t force a zerg to help you out.

If the turret’s up time is supposed to be nerfed or if you’d be able to crit turrets I’d like the overcharged abilities to do somethign useful. Like the mesmer f-skills.
i was just toying with my mortar and realised: using it does not cancel gear shield, static shield or magnetic inversion.
Not that it makes up for anything, jsut a fun fact for you who didnt know :P
.. and yep it seems to block stuff, not just an animation

I like almost Everything!
Oh, I see. Yeah, that has always kinda bothered me too. Charr in general get the shaft in terms of backpieces. They float over our backs and just generally look weird. They should make them sit a little lower on our backs to relieve these problems a bit. maybe A-net could remove hobosacks as they institute this change? One could hope.
Yes, yes! I agree! A Little lower would be perfect!
That’s only the Charr Engineer rifle stance. He is firing from the hip, because that’s what the ability is called. Charr warrior’s don’t look like that when they shoot the rifle, they hold the rifle in a normal manner.
It is not the way he stand’s that bothers me
It is the way the back item is pushed up so that it looks weird!
And yes here are two Little more zoomed in pics!
My character is not in any kind of motion in any of the pics!
Hello guys!
First of all I just wanted to say that I finished the Shadow of Grenth back piece the other day and it looks so cool! To me it’sa big deal since I don’t do any PvE., just WvW so i don’t generally Craft alot.
I was super happy with the back piece on my charr engineer… untill I equiped my rifle.
I’m not sure what he’s doing, looks like his bottom is itching alot and the only way he’s able to do anything about it is to flex his butt cheeks.
The way charrs stand while holding a rifle pushes Shadow of grenth up on his shoalders facing the sky.
Not only do we engineers have hobosacks kidnapping our precious backpieces every now and then, but equipping rifles make them look weird too.
Now I might have missed something. Is there Another Charr body model that eases up his itching or is it chronical? I’d love it if someone could give me tips on what to do. His moaning keeps me awake!
P.S Here are some pics of him showing the difference between holding/running while holding a rifle/pistol-shield… unless i failed with editing the pics
Why, oh why can we not have capes !

I don’t see why not. The only thing that’s abit sad is that engineers would have it destroyed by the hobosacks.
Hey!
I’ve been running the runes of the Guardian for quite some time on my engineer now. Mainly for solo roaming and duels. The reason I like it is mainly because of my defensive play style but also because it work very well in 1v1 scenarios. You lose quite alot of condi dmg with the specific build I’m running ( you have about 1400 with food) however if you block an entire burst, say hundred blades, you’d apply 10 seconds or mroe of burning.
Now, I’m not new to engineer, nor to the meta builds and I know they would performe better in most aspects of the game. But I’m abit bored of them sooooo… I’ll post the build to see if any of you like it :PP
If we’re talking about wvw I run a simple ’nade burst build on my zerker engineer.
6,2,0,0,6 Grenadier, accelerant turet and that trait which increases dmg from explosions, the other traits are up to you.
Nade kit, tool kit but the 3d utility i change depending on the situation. Goggles I use if ill be fighting a mesmer or thief, otherwise i run elixir S for general roaming or rocket turret for Tower defense.
Its rly squishy, and works around position most of the time. The aoe burst and pressure is so much higher than static discharge
I dont play the other game modes so cant help you there
I’m really open to the idea of a duelling option. Even though Anet hasn’t said anything about working on it, I Think it’s Worth looking into.
There’s more to duelling than just fighting. There’s Learning and being able to get feedback, and theres hanging with other players in a more casual way than zerging or spvping.
I guess one of the problems would be how to limit it. Prevent lag from skill effects in high populated places.
I still vote for that guy named Turret Syndrome, wish I had thought of that
I beg to differ with all of you who say powwers shoes or the invetions tree is worthless. This game is what you make of it, so is the engineer. If you know what kinds of situations you want to put yourself in then you can build ur Engine aound that.
All the meta builds are ofcourse good for a reason, or several reasons and they might perform slightly better than other builds but that doesnt mean you shouldnt use the traits and skills that you like.
Every now and then I run completely messed up builds in wvw, Everything from full turret builds with all turret traits to weird knock down builds, jsut for fun.
The thing is, If i know what situation I wanna be in, and which one I cannot handle with the build, then the builds works fine.
If you didn’t already know this: when u detonate a turret to blast a combo field, the blast will be ontop of yourself since its a toolbelt skill. So if the turret explodes inside the field and you’re outside of it there won’t be a combo effect.
I actually didnt know this untill i read this thread. But i was so facinated that i tested it alot (since i run flamethrower on my condi Engine in wvw) and realised that you don’t evne have to face the target to reflect, sweet!
Who knows! Perhaps they already planned to :P
But of cours we should consider what others have to say. If someone can prove me wrong that’d be great!
I did test it right Before I made the thread. No condition was removed nor any regen applied.
So I’ve seen many engineers use throw wrench in combination with a field in 1v1s, often the light field from super elixir.
I am sure alot of you already know this but for those of you how don’t; The throw wrench (which is a combo finisher Projectile) will not remove a condition from you. However, Super elixir (elixir gun #5) does remove 1 condition where it lands.
Throw wrench used on a water field does not (to my knowledge) give the caster any regen.
So if you’re gonna use the throw wrench on a field, then do it on a fire field or something else. Unless you’re grouped.
it is only for pve i suppose becouse in pvp weapons have always the same stats
Right, but the pvp weapons are all exotic so its all good
•Player bundles (kits, conjured weapons, banners, etc.) will now scale damage based on the rarity of the player’s equipped weapon. – quoted

Under Profession Balance and Bug-fixing
I would like to argue that it does not need an internal CD since the toolbelt skills have cooldowns on thier own. And wasting all the toolbelts would not be very effective unless you’re a SD engineer, in which case you lack other ways to handle conditions.
Aye I admit it’s a Little too strong for adept tier, however say, if we switched its Place with any pf the higher tier traits, would it be a balanced trait then? Or even make it a normal trait, not a minor.
Really the Place of the trait is not what I wanted to talk about, rather the idea of it xD
Many of the toolbeltskills have 20+ sec cd so it would be simillar to the warior cleanse-on-adrenaline or the thief Clean while stealthed.
Not to mention many of the toolbelt skills are situational and has a cast time.
That, on the other hand could be one of the cons, too difficult to get to work wiht the toolbelt skills that requires a specific situation ex. big ol’ bomb, the rocket toolbelts etc.
First minor trait in Tools
Adrenaline Pump: Using toolbelt skills partially restores endurance.
Amount: 10%
The idea I had was to change it so that it would remove 1 condition per use of toolbelt skill.
The Tool tree already give alot of endurance boosts with adrenaline implant and we also got invigorating speed in alchemy. So I thought this could be a nice alternative.
(I just now came to Think of this so I haven’t really put that much thought into it.)
Pros:
Better Control vs condi classes
Maybe opens up options to use other healing skills and/or utilities
synchronises well with cleaning formula 409 – (throwing or consuming elixires removes conditions from those affected, amount: 1)
Cons:
difficult to get to work with situational skills
Would be nice to hear moree opinions on this, both pros and cons!
(edited by Ovalkvadratcylinder.9365)
yeah and change the mortar to one of those cannons you fight tequatl with, just a smaller one, thatd be fun!
oh right, theres the mine build too. I Think theres a some youtube videos of it, Think it uses slightly different traits than the build I linked
I would love it if the Shells could crit!
Success, not really. But fun, yes
The only build I cna Think of is this. Where the damage comes from Rocket (toolbelt skill) and nade barrage. But its more of a ranged version of 100 ´nades
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fdAQFAUlUUpEr1WxkLseNSbBN6w00uAqN85HEgjC-TVhFwAAeAAG3fU+ZS9H66AqqEEA-w
zerker is absolutely viable, however you might die alot
but its rly fun!
Would be nice if you could explain why one spec counters another. Makes it abit easier for players that only plays one of them or none to understand what effects counter others.
Guardian/engineer with Runes of the Guardian and that ele “blind on burning”
Stuff like this doesn’t happen all too often. i’m glad I spent sometime being OP and took some great screen caps too
Seems like another l2p issue here, thieves. If you so badly wanna break the channel why don’t you just 1: shadow step behind the caster or 2: (if u got a zerg incomming) do like all the other thieves/mesmers run.
This is ridiculous - ping drops/ DCs

I can’t even Count the number of times I’ve had ping drops in EB, nor the times I’ve been killed due to disconnects.
GW2 is the only game where this happens, and Eternal Battleground the only Place in WvW. Doesn’t matter if theres alot of people or early in the morning when there no people, still the same.
I can play Wildstar, TESO, AA and many other games on my computer with my internet. But not have a good roaming time in EB without giving away a free lootbag
What the fudge is going on?
The thieves can QQ all they want. I’m still gonna argue that playing against counter stealth builds is a pure, what was it they call it on the thief forums, “l2p issue”.
I keep disconnecting from the server

Me too. In fact, jsut 1 min ago I got 3 ping drops within 2 minutes. The last one got me killed in EB.
This is the only game where i get ping drops, and it only happens in eb.
You want to use EG when:
1: Your oponent is far away from you. Then you can stack bleeds/weakness.
2:You want to kite away. For example a warrior’s stances.
3.You want to cleanse a condition/poison.
If you’re oponent sits right ontop of you then you’d be better off using bombs or ’nades.
I absolutely love the Analyse buff and the Rocket Turret buff.
I actually made a thread where I sugested hte stunning rocket to move faster, but this is much more than i expected.
Also A.E.D is a got a very nice buff.
I Believe I bet 10g that something would happen to A.E.D so, I’ll be waiting.
